Harvest Moon suffered from all this added realism. The first few games were fairly arcadey, you could learn the game as you go along without suffering much from errors. In HM:AWL not knowing that you have to plant stuff on day one or you won't reap anything is very damaging. It was too freeform and had too many variables while the manual explained absolutely nothing.

Actually, it was arguably less freeform. It was too realistic, not too open. The days were also WAY too long.

I wonder how the newer one compares? It got the same Famitsu score. And the graphics are obnoxious...

Hardly. Just look at the GBA's Japanese sales for proof the DS totally replaced it.

Mario, there is this thing called a knee. And another thing called a table. Resting your DS on either of those allows perfect play

1. Nintendo would not have released the DS when it did had it not been for the PSP. Only by basically ending GBA support did they manage it.
2. I think the DS, now in its second year, selling out this week shows excitement doesn't require a whole new handheld.
3. Sony is hurting...even less reason to spend the money on a new system.

It just makes no sense. As long as the DS is a hit, not terribly out of date, and there is no threat, a new system makes little to no sense. The GameBoy wasn't really replaced until 2001, with only one real update (GBC) to speak of.

Can I also add that you can change some aspects of a game and still maintain the spirit. Yoshi's Island changed a ton of basic Mario stuff yet is still definitely a Mario game.

totally unrelated. nintendo is pretty adamant about have 3 pillars.

Not really. They haven't talked about that since the DS was announced. It was obviously more a safety net than anything...

There is really no need for a new GB, it would only eat into DS sales. The DS is supposedly a different pillar than the GBA, but GBA sales are dead because of the DS (in Japan).

They're really overdue for an amazing HM game. The original (and even 64) is just such a wonderful game, but they've never really captured it since. They need to get that style of gameplay, with but with a gazillion more things to do and more freedom.

The art style is completely different between the two screens.  The top screen looks like something out of the Mother series.  The bottom screen looks like Lost in Blue.

I'm aware of that, but the screens go together. The two parts of the game have different art sytles?

Don't be a hater, Artimus. I am not too fond of the thought of a red Koopa with a green shell. Those are my 2 most hated colours when together.

I mean it actually hurts and gives headaches Seriously, it's really hard to have on the screen, not being rude.

Anyone know what the upcoming game releases are in Japan?

N/M: Secret of Mana comes out with the DSL. Cannot WAIT for next week.

I sincerely hope PGC provides full hands on impressions of this argument ASAP. A preview will not suffice! I don't care what happened, or who said what, I want to know how it FELT.

I'm really confused, how do these 3d screens work? Can I see a photo or video of them in action? I have no clue what they actually look like.

LOL That can still be a bonus. Bonuses and extras are used to sell things all the time!

Besides, this isn't going to affect play. GB cartridges stick out of the GBA and that's fine (a lot more than 1/4" too).

Considering the GBA function is a bonus, and in no way shape or form needed, you guys need to get over it. It isn't going to affect you while playing.

From what I'm reading it sounds like this game is going to be a classic. Is that a fair hope?

I wouldn't say that, Zelda II is the least enjoyable. But I WOULD say it's the least 'Zelda' of the serious. I find it kind of dull, and I've never been able to get through it all (I've gone about 90% at least twice).

Oh, and as for that argument that 2D games just aren't realistic, thus Zelda's style is as realistic as they come, that's bull:
