Considering the recent date change for NSMB, I think it's safe to bet that rumored plans to release the DS Lite on the same day have been scrapped.

Why? They just moved it a week.

If you actually read the article you'd notice the model is the same one as at TGS. The actual 'new' model won't surface until E3. And if you remember, the patents filed AFTER TGS showed that extra port. Clearly that will be on the model (likely audio out) but not this one.

EDIT: And apparantly the controller changed, but the changes haven't been shown/announced yet.

And it keeps getting better (no actual spoilers, except after the link)):

-At LEAST 80 levels!
-Back to the Mario platformer basics, the things that made people love the originals
-The 3D characters are so that 3D movements such as rotation and sneaking can be carried out easily

And a ton of new screens (including an AWESOME Bowser and a Koopa Kid!!).

Gestures can be better than buttons. I use mouse gestures in Firefox all the time and it makes me three times as fast as if I had to use buttons.

...and a $1000 price tag.

Oh come on, $1000 doesn't give anyone any OPTIONS.

There should be 5000 models. The first one should be a $1 base unit for homeless people (the $25 super-base unit includes a power outlet to plug it into). Then there should be one model every $500 or so going all the way up to $250,000,000 dollars. The $250,000,000 one would include a personal slave to press the power button, just in case you don't like using the remote for that. It would also include a full-sized cinema complete with 500" LCD TV to play your games on (and a popcorn stand, for when you use the built in Vinyl/VHS/CD/Beta-Max/8-track/Cassette Tape/LaserDisc/DVD/Blu-Ray/HDDVD/Holographic player). Then, just for the super rich, there should be a $1,000,000,000,000,000 version which includes a nuclear war head just in case the Ruskies attack and you need to defend yourself. And, last of all, a $1,000,000,000,000,001 version which includes an auto-launch feature so you don't have to stop playing Kirby Air Ride 2 and save yourself from the atomic holocaust. (A $1,000,000,000,000,002 version will be available six months after launch with a built in safety mechanism so the nuke doesn't launch at birds.)

Anything less than that and Nintendo is a FAILURE.

it's teh suck.

Exactly: analog sticks are fine for the PSP... but for a system that actually has games people are going to want to play, it's just one more than to break. After 100 or so hours of play, every analog stick I've ever had was starting to get dead... by 250 hours, you have to constantly recenter the damned thing. Unless you get the system cost down to about $50... there's just no way I'm going to spring for a new system every 200-300 hours of play.

Wow! My original GameCube controller works completely fine, and thats been way more than 100 hours! Same for my WaveBird which has had at least 400, judging by batteries.

I think the main difference is simply that in Metroid you just shoot to obliterate. You're not aiming to shoot, but just to kill the enemy. It doesn't matter where you hit them, unlike an FPS which is modeled after aiming a gun.

Call it a FPA if you want, but my point is that MP and MP:H are not the billion miles apart which Ian seems to think they will be.

I know, I'm arguing the same thing, lol.

FPSs have auto aim options as well, some of which barely require you to be aiming at the target and still allows you to hit it, but that doesn't change the fact that they're FPSs. Metroid Prime is a FPS geared toward exploration, but that doesn't change the fact that you fight your enemies by shooting them from a first-person perspective.

FPS generally refers to a Half-Life/Perfect Dark/Unreal game. Metroid is so different that calling it just an FPS makes as much sense as calling Mario Sunshine a shooter because he uses a water gun. One element doesn't define a genre unless its the primary element. Metroid's handling of enemies is very different than an FPS's, and the main focus of gameplay is exploration. I really think First Person Adventure is an accurate name for it.

Stealth should never have been in Metroid. The game is about exploring, not about sneaking around. When you have the ability to remain unseen then you can be sure the developer will make a level where that's required. I will not buy a Metroid game with any stealth sections (provided the reviews bother to mention that, which most didn't for Zero Mission to avoid spoilers).

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I didn't mean stealth as in sneaking behind guards. I guess I meant long distance attacking. It makes no sense a bounty hunter wouldn't have the ability to do some form of sniping.

Having the option to actually aim precisely, while maintaining a lockon, adds a level that should've been in Metroid games all along: stealth. You'll be able to sneak and shoot much better than when you'd need to lockown to shoot.

I think with the Rev we won't see a rehash of MP or Metroid, but an expansion and deepening of the world and experience. Very similar to the advancement that is MP.
