TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Land Preview
« on: June 05, 2012, 06:37:06 PM »
The problem with this game is that Nintendo is not going to give us both this AND a Nintendo Kingdom Hearts kind of game.  They're only going to do the Nintendo-themed-land bit once and they picked casual bullshit.

Remember the rumour and the Metroid/Star Fox crossover?  Remember how we got excited about the possibility of SOME sort of Nintendo crossover?  THIS is it!  This lame ass bullshit is it!  **** me.

Mii's have invaded Zelda.  It's fucking over.  The casuals have invaded "our" games.  They make a game about visiting a Nintendo themepark and they make it for the Wii Sports/Fit crowd.  Not the longtime fans that made these franchises worth any money in the first place but the casual fan that never bought a videogame before 2006 and bought only like four Wii games.

Wow. Over-react much?

Is it just me, or do the graphics have a bit more of a hand drawn look to them? I know the background of that Boo level from the trailer looked freakin' awesome, almost like a van Gogh painting.

I noticed the Goombas also had a different look in one level. Will each world have its own unique visual style?

I'm hoping that you can also sync up your 3DS to count the number of steps taken.

But overall, sounds good. And I like the idea of using Wii Fit while watching TV at the same time (another excuse to plow through my Futurama seasons again!)

Well, that's weird, because I've got rivals that pop up that I've never streetpassed with. When I streetpass with someone, do I pick up the records of the people that person has swapped with?

@ Megabyte: Actually, I was referring to the little banner that appears underneath Mario on the map screen, which lists your best time and the time of your closest rival. But yeah, the limit of only 3 Streetpasses for items is annoying.

Actually, that seems to be pretty similar to the "Rival" system in Super Mario 3D Land, though a bit more fleshed out.

There's only one thing I care about...

Will Non-Specific Action Figure be playable in Super Smash Bros 4?!?!?!

New Super Mario Bros. Mii, F-Zero, and Diablo 3  ;)

Oh man, the Factor 5 character model for Pit looks absolutely drab and lifeless. Thank God the series never veered in that direction.

I agree that Metroid should take a break for a while; when it does come back, they should try doing something different with it, perhaps something that would give the series a shot light-heartedness it desparately needs... "Paper Metroid" anyone?

I wonder how much better the movie would've been if they'd set it during the 1940s WWII era, instead of just inserting "OMG! ALIENZ!!!1"....

But yeah, the game pretty much sounds like "Advance Wars Lite". I guess it'd be a good title for people who are interested in strategy games to ease into the genre.

It probably could have been interesting if it had every progressed beyond a faceless shadow who tried to kill her with a forklift.

The whole game could've been made a whole lot better if there were three jerks in silhouette at the bottom of the screen making smart-ass remarks... ;)

Or we could just do what my parents do and just call it the "Nintendo".

As a huge Mario fan, I really wanted to collect these, but at $7.99 USD a pop for a 3" tall figure, I couldn't justify dropping the cash for them.

Especially when I remember paying half that for a Ninja Turtle figure complete with accessories back in the 80s...

God, I'm old.

The "good news" could also be the long rumored name change of the system.

@ Pixelated Pixies

Oh great, I just now got to Level 15. Something to look forward too now...

141
I was not placing the blame on Nintendo.

Oh, I was being sarcastic. There really needs to be a "sarcasm" emoticon.

142
I feel like it'll be the same ol' third party crap and excuses we always get on Nintendo systems. :(

Because it's Nintendo's fault that 3rd party rushed, sloppy, poorly thought-out, farmed out to some fly-by-night programming house ports fail to sell against Nintendo's own titles.

143
Their investors would murder the entire company.

Ah yes, the same investors who rushed the release of the 3DS and then demanded that Nintendo release games on iOS. Geniuses.

144
Eh, I gotta call bullsh*t on this one. I can see the idea being tossed around at Retro, but I don't think the concept would've made it to an actual game.

Though I will say that if it does happen, I hope it takes on a more humorous, self-aware tone, perhaps even making fun of the more lackluster entries in the series (Star Fox Adventures, Other M). Both series could use a shot of levity at this point.

145
I remember back in the early days of the Wii Virtual Console, people would bitch and complain because of the four games that were released that week, only three of them were above average.

Just sayin'...

They could at least announce a Mega Man title that they can later cancel.

147
I only hope that NPC Jungle Beat is also re-released as a Nintendo Selects title as well.

I have heard that Xenoblade did something like 220K in April, but it would be nice to have some official word.

And, has anyone else noticed that Ash has been 10 for, like, ALMOST 10 YEARS!?

Bart Simpson's been 10 years old for over 20 years... what's your point?

150
I will agree with you on that Broodwars. It's almost as if they're shy about announcing these things, as if they're worried it would come off as bragging.

"I say, I don't want to bother you much, but we do have some nice games coming out this week. Yyou can check them out if you like, but if not, that's okay too. No pressure. Sorry to bother you."

But yeah, a bit of pumping up fans in anticipation would be nice to see. Perhaps it's time Reggie or someone gets a blog. *L* To be fair though, they do pimp their releases and promotions via Facebook and Twitter, so they're not completely in the stone age here.

Personally, I would prefer more original content. Of course, this is rather selfish of me, since I already own most of these VC releases in their original form, complete in box to boot.
