Nintendo Gaming / Memory Cards
« on: March 02, 2003, 03:12:10 AM »
Hmm, weird, maybe you got a bad memory card. Have you been playing any games from other regions and saved the data on the same memory card you save data from this region on? Did you remove the card while saving?

Hmmm, does this mean we'll be seeing those little stickers saying "Winner Of" on Animal Crossing and Metroid boxes, like Nintendo did in the N64 days for Ocarina and Goldeneye?

My parents haven't played video games since the NES. The new systems "make them dizzy".
Hee heh, my mom constanty says I'm too old to play video games. I should tell her about YOUR mom!

Considering the rivalry between EA and Sega, and the fact that Sega games sell horribly on Xbox, I'd say this rumor is false.
If anything, Nintendo should be looking to sign them up as an exclusive second party.

Nintendo Gaming / Sonic Adventure DX
« on: February 27, 2003, 04:44:33 PM »
I'll probably end up getting it. I enjoyed it on my friend's Dreamcast, and I was actually considering buying a used Dreamcast just to play this game... and now I don't have too! I actually completed all of Sonic, Knuckles, Amy and E-102's levels on the DC; Tails's levels seems like reruns of Sonic's, and I loathed Big, but I guess you had to finish the game with him to get the last boss, right? If they could just revamp the camera (the controller has a C-Stick for a reason, Sonic Team!), and fix some of the more annoying glitches with the original, it would be pretty good.
The new screens look pretty cruddy though. I do hope they're from the DC version, but why would they release those as GC shots?
Oh, and I believe IGN revealed (though discreetly, on a GC game forecast feature) that the next new Sonic game will be released exclusively on the Cube.

Yeah, your main character's special attack would be to stare at nothing for five minutes at a time and the enemies would be these lame looking aliens who look like extras in scuba suits whose legs are strong enough to leap ten feet into the air, yet they aren't able to kick down a wooden door.
...
Sorry, but I really HATED that movie.

Yeah, you're right, if it was in the Japanese version, we would've heard something about this earlier. Oh well, even if you can't unlock Pokemon, it still sounds pretty nifty.
I think it's funny that people complain that Japan gets games earlier, but we're the ones who get the tuned up or fixed versions, like this E-reader feature and, from what I've heard, Wind Waker.

1162
According to IGN Pocket Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire will be compatable with the E-reader and will each include a special card they can swipe to play a certain battle with another trainer... now, if Nintendo can do this for battles, who's to say they wouldn't distribute certain POKEMON on E-cards. This may be the way we can unlock the older Pokemon that aren't immediately available on Ruby and SapphireAnd not just unlocking them... the data on the cards could give Pokemon pre-dertermined moves they wouldn't naturally have... such as a Pikachu that uses Surf, for instance.
What do you think?

Even better places to try would be retail stores like Target and Wal-Mart, since they are usually the last places gamers tend to go for their games. My local Wal-Mart still has ten bonus discs left.

Those nameplates could be a spiffy way to customize one's Gamecube... and for Nintendo to make a quick buck or two if they'd release them on the open market. I could see myself getting a Shine Sprite plate for my purple cube.

Nintendo Gaming / Have the Gamecube SD cards been confirmed a no-go?
« on: February 24, 2003, 03:00:51 AM »
I'm not worried about SD cards right now. I still have over 180 blocks left on my 251 card so it will last me a while. I guess if I owned a lot of sports titled I'd be complaining, but... I don't.

Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon's Replay Value
« on: February 22, 2003, 01:07:39 PM »
I can understand. I was psyched about Gold and Silver after playing through my copy of Blue for three years, but when I finally got my hands on Silver, I was a bit disappointed. Granted, it was a vast improvement from the earlier games, but it just felt like re-treading old territory. I mean, the first Pokemon I caught were a Rattata and a Pidgey, the same ones I first caught in Blue. It felt like Pokemon 1.5.  And also, I think I spoiled a lot of it for myself, because I read tons of spoilers on the Japanese version and downloaded images of all the new Pokemon. When I first played Blue, I actually thought the dude at Mt. Moon was selling me some sort of magic carpet... It was a MagiKarp and I had no idea what it really was! There was really none of that for me in Silver, I already knew everything, about Breeding, items Pokemon could hold, all that. This time around, I've tried to stay as far away from spoiling anything as much as possible (same as I'm doing with Wind Waker). I also believe with a new graphics engine and new battling system, it will be a true evolution of the Pokemon games.

Nintendo Gaming / ok! so i'm a Nintendo FREAK!
« on: February 18, 2003, 04:41:52 PM »
I occasionally work in the Electronic Department at Wal-Mart (I cover when people go to lunch) and I can't say how many times this conversation has taken place.

Customer: "So, which one is best?"
Me: "Well, me personally, I like the Gamecube. It has some great games and connects to the GBA. The Xbox is about as powerful as the GC, but about the only great game on there is Halo. And the PS2 is a bit older and not as powerful, but it has some good games for it."
Customer: "Do they all play DVDs?"
Me: "The Gamecube doesn't but the other two do."
Customer: "Then I should just get one of the others huh?"
Me: "Well, if you don't have a DVD player sure, but the Gamecube has some very goo..."
Customer: "I guess I'll take that PS2 / Xbox. I really need a DVD player..."
Me: "Okay...."

See, most of the time it's adults who are looking for a DVD player and something to keep the kids entertained. Usually they don't even really care about the games.

Once I got this couple to buy their kid a Platinum cube, mainly because I told the dad about Animal Crossing and how you could collect old NES games and even play them on the GBA. He seemed really excited about that. And as they bought it, he said "and we'll be back next week for one of those Platinum Gameboys." I know one kid that was happy last Christmas.

Nintendo Gaming / Are you satisfied with your Cube at the moment?
« on: February 17, 2003, 03:36:29 PM »
It was a rough going from launch until summer 2002, since I only had Luigi's Mansion, SSBM,  Road Rage and Sonic Adventure 2 to tide me over, but since Mario Sunshine hit, I've been very happy with my cube, since about every month brings along another must have title. The only problem is, I hardly have any time to play anymore!

Nintendo Gaming / The new Pokemon Game for GCN
« on: February 17, 2003, 04:08:43 AM »
I would hope the upcoming GCN game is a full fledged RPG, but I doubt it would be, especially if it comes less than a year after the release of Ruby/Sapphire, so I figure it will be yet another Stadium game. What I DO hope is that they fix what was wrong with the n64 games, such as the incredibly cheap AI (Honestly, who here has had their Pokemon land Horn Drill three times in a row?) and the lack of Pokemon voices (I want Totodile to say "TO-TO-DIIILE!" not some the noise from the GB game!). Trainer customizing is a must, of course, as well as chatting and taunting with the other trainers during battle. I think a cool visual trick would be to have the character's head pop up in the corner of the screen shouting out an attack like in the show. Also, some sort of battle simulator where you can set the strength of your opponents so your Pokemon could gain experience points.
Of course it should be on-line too. You could have different Pokemon Centers (similar to PSO's starships) that you could go to and chat to other trainers and challenge them to battles. You could even have different arena based on what town the Pokemon Center is. Some random elements could come into play here, such as Team Rocket sticking their nose in, and you and the other trainer now have to team up to fight them.
These would be cool for a Stadium style game, and of course would be used when the full fledged RPG finally comes out. I just think it will be the next next Pokemon GCN game that we'll actually see some RPG/Action goodness.
