Nintendo Gaming / Price Cost of "Connecting" Games
« on: May 14, 2003, 01:52:27 PM »
Pokemon Box, which requires a GBA, cable and a Pokemon game, costs about$16 in Japan, so I would assume it would be around that price here. Probably $20 American.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Is Lookin Good!
« on: May 13, 2003, 05:17:30 PM »
Nintendo has a solid lineup so far. Nothing as shocking as last year's show of course (yet...), but I can't help but think if they showed Mario Kart and F-Zero right out of the blue at the show, people would be more excited.
But yeah... some of their cube titles do look a little cheap, especially the Zelda titles, which really disappoints me. I just hope they make the right moves when actually pricing the games ($50 for Pokemon Box, I think NOT)
Titles I am genuienly excited about, aside from the obvious Mario Kart and F-Zero, is Kirby's Air Ride, which actually looks like a fun little game, Star Fox 2, Wario World, and Pokemon Colusseium, which might just fix everything wrong with the N64 games. Geist and Custom Robo also looks interesting and worth looking into.
And as a side note, the IGNCube boys have always been doom and gloom about Nintendo failing. It's almost as if they get off on bitching that Nintendo is doing everything wrong.

Oh, and I think it's funny that Rare is finally putting another Conker game out there and it's not much more than a remake of Bad Fur Day with Xbox Live elements in multiplayer.

Haichi Matchi!

I'll hold my opinions until we actually see the unit and the pricing. Then we'll see if it's as laughable as the N-gage.

Nintendo Gaming / Super Mario Advance 4 will be...
« on: May 13, 2003, 03:59:49 AM »
Super Mario Bros. 3! It's been confirmed by Coro Coro Magazine.

IGN has pics of the two new Pokemon games up already. One is indeed a "Stadium" style game, with two on two battles included. Interesting to note, is that this time around, you can actually see your trainer on the battlefield and it seems you'll be able to customize how you'll look.

The other one indeed looks like some sort of interaction game with Pikachu and other Pokemon, where you help them put on a TV show... I have no clue.

They also have shots of the new Starfox game... one weird shot has Fox climbing out of his cockpit and taking some shots at a foe with his blaster.

E3 will certainly be interesting this year.

Hmm. Looks pretty slick... not exactly pushing the cube processor at this point, but those are probably PS2 screens.

If Capcom is actually doing this, they'll officially be the dumbest company since Fox cancelled Futurama.

Nintendo Gaming / games you don't play anymore.
« on: May 12, 2003, 02:50:56 PM »
I don't like sports games, but generally, I keep my games even after I've played them out, unless they really really suck. You never know when you want to blast through Delphino Plaza again or max out your Rupees.

Just a side note, but instead of releasing a new edition every year, why doesn't EA just release one for a couple of years, then release yearly stat and team upgrades via a memory card or internet? I know the only system that could really take advantage of that would be the Xbox with it's hard drive, but it's something to keep in mind for the next console generation... it might even increase sales if people know they wouldn't have to buy a new version every year....

I wouldn't mind a sequel to 'Hey You, Pikachu', as long as they don't make it as crap-tastically bad as the original.
Actually, it might also be the long fabled "Pokemon Party" game, which has also been rumored under the name "Pichu Bros. Party Panic", maybe with Pikachu hosting a huge assortment of mini-games.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube disc repair
« on: May 10, 2003, 03:52:07 PM »
Use a soft cloth (like an old tshirt) and gently wipe the disc from center to edge. Do NOT wipe in a circular motion.
Not sure how to treat a scratch though.

TalkBack / Entertainment Weekly Names Zelda All-Time Top Game
« on: May 06, 2003, 03:13:09 PM »
I've never honestly trusted Entertainment Weekly covering ANY kind of "Entertainment", since their entire mag consists of snotty critics who only like movies about cowboys eating pudding.

Looks pretty sweet... I was afraid they weren't going to use cel-shading and just go straight 3-D modeling.
But... how well does it play?

What a horrible name.  Nintendo needs to stop playing with alliteration.

Hey, it's a heck of a lot better than the N64 days, when all the games had a "64" tacked on the end. Would you rather they put a big "GC" on the end of the title?

I like the new titles.

Nintendo Gaming / Animal Crossing 2 news
« on: April 30, 2003, 07:41:57 AM »
I actually created a town and character and tried to see what happens at the very end of the AC calendar. The result?... nothing. It just rolls back to January 1st of the last year and goes along as normal.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo and Rare
« on: April 30, 2003, 07:38:50 AM »
I agree Rare was overhyped towards the end of the N64's lifetime; I didn't enjoy Conker or Banjo-Tooie or Perfect Dark nearly as much as their earlier games, but they did churn out some pretty good games. The DKC series was excellent, though at times annoyingly difficult, Banjo-Kazzoie was fun, Goldeneye set new standards for FPS and Blast Corps was pretty unique. I didn't like Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64 or the Killer Instinct series much. Their Gameboy offerings were crap. Seriously, go back and play Donkey Kong Land and tell me it wasn't horribly programmed.
But honestly, the only Rare Cube offerings that I was interested in was Star Fox Adventures and Donkey Kong Racing. And after playing through Star Fox, I won't miss Donkey Kong Racing so much.
Donkey Kong Racing became Saberman Racing. Kameo turned into some refugee from Ferngully. Perfect Dark is now about a cheerleader in a spy suit.
I won't say that Rare is a bad developer. I will say they WERE an incredible game developer, but they lost their way as they focused more on graphics and less on core gameplay. And I doubt Microsoft will help them with that, just as long as Joanna's boobs bounce realisticly. I do hope they do make excellent games again, even if they are on the evil green box.

Nintendo Gaming / Skillz Cube Connection.....DIE!!!

Uh, get rid of Windows XP?
No, seriously, I've heard of lots of programs and drives that refuse to work with Windows XP. Using an eariler version of Windows might help... but the best thing you should do is read the manual or at least visit the company site.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime Graphics corruption

Yikes. The last time I saw a game that glitched up was on my old NES! Ah, those were the days.
But yeah, your Cube is fried or something. Maybe there's something on the lens...

Nintendo Gaming / New in-store demo disk.
« on: April 29, 2003, 01:14:04 PM »
The Gamecube Demo Disk Version 10 arrived in my store today, though it's really nothing to get too excited about. It only has two playable demos; Zelda, which keeps the Dungeon and Stealth levels from the previous disc and adds a new "Island" level, and Lost Kingdoms II. Movies include Zelda, Ikunagurabana... (Treasure's shooting game, however you spell it), a new Wario World movie, Top Hitz (from the Zelda bonus disc), P.N.03, MBL Slugfest and GBA SP.
Has Nintendo even considered to start putting more than two games on demo discs? I remember the disc that came out in Feburary last year had five different demos on it, but since then, we've only had two games on each disc... well, at least we'll be getting the cooler demo disc next month...

Nintendo Gaming / Do you feel the GC is slowly dying away..?
« on: April 28, 2003, 05:00:47 PM »
Most of this negative hype is probably from PS2 or Xbox fanboys, who are probably just jealous that we actually have good games on our systems. You could count the actually good games on those systems with one hand. To count all of the good games on the Cube would take... uh, several hands.
But seriously, I think a huge problem these days are the "casual" gamers creeping influence on game design. They just want to jump right into a game and "kill stuff". Case in point, two kiosks in my store. One Xbox with Halo and Cube with Zelda. Kid walks up to Zelda, spends two seconds trying to move Link through a door, too stupid to realize he has to push the big green button to open it, says "This is stupid!", walks over to the Halo demo and starts shouting out "Cool! Blue blood!"* I remember when one got a game, he or she actually sat down and read the instruction book before (or during) playing so he knew how to play it. Nowadays, people just want to know how to jump in a car and run over hookers.
Uh, what was the question before I started ranting like a moron? Oh, yeah. The Cube isn't going anywhere. I have some friends who own Xboxes and they often give props to the Cube (in fact, one considers Mario Sunshine to be the greatest platformer ever and he even has the Zelda pre-order disc even though he doesn't own a Gamecube... yet). Nintendo's still making a profit, and I hope they don't drop the price to $99, because a console the same price as a handheld looks pretty bad.
Nintendo will be around to the next generation and the one after that. After that one, I'm not sure. What do you think I am, some kinda psychic?

*(Apologies to Halo fans, it is actually a pretty good game. Please don't use that Needler on me.)

TalkBack / Sega Reveals E3 Line-up
« on: April 28, 2003, 11:39:40 AM »
As long as we get Sonic goodness on the Gamecube, I'll be happy. And Sonic Team seems to love the cube so much, I think they'll do as much as they can to make sure it's not a "PS2 port"
Though Sega's continued support of the Xbox still puzzles me. Sega Xbox games continue to collect dust at local stores, and I've talked to several Xbox owners who consider Sonic to be as "kiddie" as Mario... though said owners were little punks who were barely teenagers...
