Nintendo Gaming / GCN advertisements - NOA gets it right

I think the main focus here should be "actually showing gameplay" of the game. Even with the Metroid commerical, they had like 5 seconds of gameplay throughout the whole thing. I don't even want to get started with Mario sunshine.

Actually, they did pull the "Clean is better" ads about a week after they started showing them, and started airing ads that were completely gameplay footage of Mario running around Delphino Island, while a voice-over talked about Mario's vacation. But yeah, I get what you're saying. All they need to do for F-Zero is show 30 seconds of racing and explosions.

Nintendo Gaming / GCN advertisements - NOA gets it right
« on: May 31, 2003, 05:14:13 PM »
I've seen the commercial with the geeky-looking cashier (let's call him "Gregg"), where he's scanning a copy of Zelda, it rings up as $0, then he scans his eyes by mistake, and his brain rings up as $0.
If anything, it gets the attention of non-gamers. My boss is a 40 something year old mom, she hasn't played video games since Pong and she absolutely loves those commericals starring "Gregg".

Nintendo Gaming / New Nintendo mascots?
« on: May 28, 2003, 04:54:11 PM »
How can you replace a mascot who is more recognized than Mickey Mouse? I'm sure they'll come out with new mascots that are just as popular, but no one mascot could replace our favorite plumber.

Nintendo Gaming / Demo Disc's Good or Bad
« on: May 28, 2003, 08:37:17 AM »
I think once Nintendo finds out that people are plunking down ten bucks for a demo disc that's not officially for sale, they'll change their tune and start churning out demo discs for regular retail.

I finally beat the demo level and let me say, any game that lets you fight bare knuckle against an apache helicopter is a winner in my book.

Nintendo Gaming / A few thoughts about this GBS vs PSP thing...
« on: May 27, 2003, 03:52:16 AM »
Raising_Hell, that was a very interesting read. It just reminded me that there is probably a huge chunk of Sony and Microsoft's userbase that are parents that just bought the system for the DVD player, and as a side game system for the kids to use if they get bored.

I find that very hard to believe, since their bestselling games are the ones that have been featured on the Cube (Sonic Adv. 2, Super Monkey Ball) and Sonic Team and AV have both stated they prefer the Cube platform to work on.

Nintendo Gaming / Why don't Nintendo fans like Fighting Games?
« on: May 25, 2003, 04:07:11 PM »
grap3fruitman, my friend who owns an Xbox bought DOA3, and brought it back a week later. He said the gameplay was shallow and the unlockables were a joke. He compared it to SSBM having only one unlockable character.

Target actually has it advertised in their newspaper circular this week as on sale for $9.99.

Because I suck at fighting games.

Nintendo Gaming / What's this? Demo Disc only with purchase of GCN?
« on: May 24, 2003, 03:01:46 PM »
I just scored mine from Target. Of all the games on the disc, I actually liked Billy Hatcher the best. Go figure. Before I tried it, it was a game I probably never would've picked up, but now I'm definately interested in it. Sonic I was a bit disappointed in. The camera sucked as usual, I was expecting that, but the controls were too jerky. I kept running into walls. I played a bit of Soul Caliber 2, but I plan to go back and play it a bit more. Splinter Cell I didn't touch. I've tried it on the Xbox and I found it kinda boring. I also really enjoyed Viewtiful Joe and I may have even named it my most favorite on the disc, if I could've just gotten by that boss who shoots those stupid guns. I'm just bitter, that's all.
One of my friends almost wet his pants when he saw the Rebel Strike trailer.
Oh, and the downloadable Gameboy games are just freakin' cool.

Nintendo Gaming / are loyal fans getting snubbed
« on: May 22, 2003, 11:04:09 AM »
The only thing that I feel Nintendo is snubbing loyal fans with is the current demo disc delemia (sp?), which they will only make available to new Cube purchasers. However, if enough people bitch about it (and that's what Nintendo fans do best ) they might make it available to normal retail.

Nintendo Gaming / spy vs spy
« on: May 22, 2003, 09:20:47 AM »
I would think that it would be a great game to have GC/GBA connectivity on. Have one player walk through the Cube game, while the player on the GBA sets up traps and tries to bump him off.

Obviously Nintendo took a look at sales numbers and saw that PSX games are still selling rather well.

It's a nice dream, but I doubt it.

If the e-mails don't work, I also suggest waiting a couple of weeks and check out the used games stores. I remember that about a week after the Zelda bonus disc was released, I found it for sale used at GameStop...

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Power's Defense of GameCube
« on: May 21, 2003, 10:58:11 AM »
Hee hee, I know a couple of my Xbox friends who I'm going to show that list too ^_^
Of course, I wouldn't want Nintendo to get down on the same level as Sony and Microsoft and bash the competition... wait... didn't Microsoft bash Kirby in one of their promo booklets...
.... NO MERCY! MICRO$OFT MUST PAY!!!

But does anyboy else remember, back in the SNES Vs. Genesis days, long before Sonic hooked up on the Cube, Nintendo releasing a pamplet that included a list of both machine's stats, pointing out how the SNES was superior in every way?... we need another one of those...

We should probably mail Nintendo asking for the disc to be sold in regular retail...
Hey, it worked with the Zelda bonus disc...

I'm about to order the Wind Waker soundtrack from them, since they have a pretty good price on it, but I'm hesitant about giving a site I've never used before my credit card number.
Is it pretty trustworthy? Has anyone ever ordered from them?

Nintendo Gaming / Lack of everything...

I agree that there was nothing earth shattering about E3 for Nintendo this year, but we did get a solid line-up of some very interesting games.

Nintendo Gaming / SMA4 looks FUNKED UP!
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:36:14 PM »
Dude, seriously, Super Mario Advance 4 looks very funky... in a good way. Going through the levels of Super Mario Bros 3, with powers and enemies from Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 2... not to mention downloadable levels from the ereader...

I guess this is why it took so long to get SMB3 to the GBA... they wanted to give probably the most beloved Mario sidescroller the most royal treatment of them all... this is one remake I'll be getting.

Nintendo Gaming / Gameboy SP a waste of time?
« on: May 14, 2003, 05:32:40 PM »
The SP is a wonderful version of the Gameboy and I honestly enjoy it much more that the original GBA. When I showed my SP to my sister, she complained that I had too many Gameboys already and that it was a waste of money. To which I asked her how many different models of cell phones she's gone through the last couple of years. That shut her up.
Of course, later on I caught her sneaking a play of Super Mario Advance 2

But yeah, if you prefer the original GBA to the SP, then that's all fine and dandy too.
