Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon RPG Confirmed (Sort Of)
« on: July 14, 2003, 06:05:29 AM »
Funny, I thought this blue cartridge lodged into my GBA WAS a Pokemon RPG! Silly me. ;P

But yeah, that does sound interesting... if it's true.

Uh, that's the in-store demo. Are you sure he didn't swipe it?

But, staying on topic, hell yeah! It's something fans have been asking for (and the subject of a couple of NP's own Player's Polls) since the cube came out. Even a quarterly disc would be nice.

Getting greedy here, but maybe a cheap Cube game would be a nice giveaway, like the upcoming Pokemon Box game, which is really only a glorified storage unit, or maybe one of those Zelda games. But I'm getting ahead of myself and becoming way to optimistic.
It would really be nice for NP to finally start including demo discs, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Nintendo Gaming / Idea for GC-GBA link
« on: July 04, 2003, 04:56:20 AM »
I'm pretty sure it was last year sometime, Nintendo had a build of Donkey Kong for GBA, where you could build custom levels on the Cube, then download them onto the GBA... Something like that would be possible, I guess.

Nintendo Gaming / Game difficulty? Why so easy?
« on: June 30, 2003, 12:30:38 PM »
You can blame casual gamers for that. Most casual gamers won't spend a lot of time trying to finish a level or even an entire game, so in order to appeal to them, the games have to be somewhat easier so casual gamers won't abandon them.

Oooh, a different color!!! Whoopity doo! I seem to remember when they first announced the code was hidden in the movie that they were bragging it would open up a "third gameplay mode", in addition to the Hulk and Banner modes. Guess that was a load of bull-hockey.

Actually, I think the reasoning behind giving away the Bonus Zelda disc was two-fold. One was because The Wind Waker was a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time. It was a great chance for players not familiar with Ocarina to get to learn more about it, which made the experience playing The Wind Waker, set in the same world centuries after Ocarina, so much more fulfilling.
Secondly, it wasn't just a direct port of Ocarina of Time, it also included Master Quest, which was the main draw for myself, since I played the N64 game to death. If they included Star Fox 64 as a bonus for ordering Namco's SF game, they should at least add some sort of remixed version, or even go as far as to include the legendary lost Star Fox 2, which I'm sure MANY gamers would be interested in.
Also, kingvudu, I don't think giving away bonus discs would take any profit away from other Gamecube games. The Zelda disc came out in Feburary, and I honestly don't remember any noteable GC releases during that month anyway. Besides, I'm sure a lot of gamers, like me, don't buy a new game every month.

Nintendo Gaming / Amazing Deals!

Target has a bunch of games for cheap prices, I picked up a copy of Pac-Man World 2 for less than ten bucks!
Also, GameStop is selling used Dreamcasts for $30 and N64s for $20!

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Advertising BLITZ!!!!!!
« on: June 25, 2003, 04:16:15 AM »
I have to say, I really enjoy the new commercials (Wario World was hilarious, while the others reeked of awesomeness). My favorite ones were the ones showing a heart monitor, as if Nintendo was telling everyone "Hey, we're far from dead."

Nintendo Gaming / Acclaim drops all support for Nintendo!
« on: June 23, 2003, 03:46:53 AM »
Boo frickity hoo. I haven't bought any Acclaim games since that incredibly crappy South Park game for the N64. I guess they finally realized that Gamecube owners are too smart to buy their crap.
It doesn't affect me one bit. But I wonder, are they still making games for the Gameboy, hmmm? I wouldn't be surprised one little bit if Nintendo decided that Acclaim's GBA games weren't "good" enough for their handheld...

From what I've read, they're using those SD adaptors so people can watch TV shows on their GBAs. Supposedly you can either download them onto the SD cards from the internet or from special kiosks in stores. I've seen a GBASP playing an episode of Pokemon using the adaptor. I think it's going to be Japan only so far though... still, interesting and probably a taste of things to come.

Nintendo Gaming / "Game Boy is for 10-year-olds..."
« on: June 11, 2003, 04:00:38 PM »
I just read that and was on my way here to post the link myself!
It's just your typical Microsoft and Sony-esque effort to make Nintendo look like it's for babies.
But I can understand why they would want to target an older audience. After all, to change the game, you have to unscrew the battery lid, remove the battery, take out the game card, replace the card, replace the battery and screw the lid back on. I mean, what kind of ten year old would have that kind of patience!
....come to think of it, who WOULD go to all that trouble when they could just slap in a copy of Metroid Fusion in their GBA and beat it in the time it takes to switch out games in the N-gage? Not many.
And to his statement that it isn't cool to take out a GBA SP in a public space on a Friday night? Like an N-gage would be any cooler?
I think Penny Arcade got it right when they said "It's like they took a s****y cell phone and combined it with an even s***ier game system".

I just think it's funny that Gamespot links to another article where the reviewer basically says Nintendo has nothing to fear from the Ngage.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's June 2003 In Store Demo Disc
« on: June 10, 2003, 04:07:41 AM »
Mario Golf looked pretty good, though I sucked hard at it. I sucked at the original too. The graphics look pretty good, though the camera was very glitchy if you pulled out too far or got stuck behind an object. They should be able to polish it up before release. Playable characters include Mario, Waluigi, Peach, Yoshi, Koopa Troopa, and Donkey Kong, and there were two selectable courses, Normal and Mushroom Kingdom.

Sonic played just like it did on the Preview Disc, so no surprises here. Same for Soul Caliber 2.

P.N. 03 was... unique... the controls were very difficult to use and you couldn't shoot unless you were standing still. It looked okay, but I just couldn't get past the controls and the fact you couldn't walk left or right, you just strafed.

I watched one of my friends play Ultimate Muscle, but it does looks pretty sweet if you like wrestling games. The cel-shading is pretty good and I have to admit it was funny when my friend's character started dancing on his opponent's face. Wacky stuff. All the voices were Japanese, so I don't know if that will change in the final version or not...

All the movies were brand new with new gameplay footage. I was most impressed with Mega Man, which looked VERY slick with cel-shading.

Nintendo Gaming / Flickering GBA SP screen?

Did you try turning the light off? Because if you have a direct light source like the sun, you don't need the light on.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's June 2003 In Store Demo Disc
« on: June 09, 2003, 03:40:02 PM »
My store just got the new demo disc in today, and lo and behold, it actually has more than two games on it!

Demos:
Soul Caliber 2 (Same as Preview Disc)
Sonic Adventure DX (Same as Preview Disc)
P.N. 03
Ultimate Muscle
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour

New Movies:
Gameboy Player
Soul Caliber 2
Mario Golf
Mega Man Transmission
The Hulk
The Matrix Reloaded
Wario World
NCAA 2004
ESRB Movie

Pretty nifty disc. P.N. 03 didn't seem so hot to me though, but I liked Mario Golf, despite the fact I sucked at it.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention, but Nintendo seems to have gotten rid of the time limit for the demos, as one of my friends played Ultimate Muscle for over half an hour.

« on: June 05, 2003, 04:55:09 AM »
I have read that Futurama will indeed come out on Gamecube in Europe, but not North America. And that makes Clamps very angry... you don't want him to use... the CLAMPS!

Nintendo Gaming / Animal Crossing Sites
« on: June 04, 2003, 04:02:04 AM »
Oh, man... that's a hard one.... if only there was some sort of site where you could type in what you're looking for, press a button, and it searches and finds all kinds of website based on what words you typed in. It could be called a... "Search Engine"... and we could give it a funny name, like Wahoo!, or Yippee!...
....

Sarcasm over with, here's one I go to from time to time: http://www.animalxing.com/
Also, go to GameFAQs.com. Their AC message board is always active.

Nintendo Gaming / E-Reader worth it?
« on: June 01, 2003, 04:24:57 PM »
The E-reader is a neat little gadget, but I really haven't used it much beyond scanning stuff for Animal Crossing. I see a lot more potential for it with games like SMA4, where you can load new levels from the cards.
But yeah, Air Hockey is cool. Last time I went to my local Software Etc, they still had a big box packed full of them.

Nintendo Gaming / What game is best for playing at school?
« on: June 01, 2003, 04:20:07 PM »
Pokemon, definately. I play it at work during my breaks, during which I am often interrupted at least once to go back out onto the floor to help some idiot customer locate the golf balls that are sitting on the shelf directly behind him. When that happens, I fold up the SP, pop in my pocket, kill the customer and go back into my game. Pokemon is a great game to do that since nothing will really happen as long as you don't push any buttons and as long as the SP is closed, that won't happen. I suppose that could work with pretty much any RPG too...
