Would Cursed Mountain have sold a decent amount on the HD consoles with the same amount of advertising none and the same limited shipment?

I don't even think very many people on forums were all that hyped for this game.

Meh thought it looked pretty good for a WiiWare game.

I didn't mean the game looked bad (hair aside), I meant that this 3rd party fails for stealth announcing this game. A M+ swordfighter on WiiWare could be HUGE, but I found this trailer entirely by accident. Failure.

But you can only do so much with the 40MB limit for WiiWare.

The official homepage says it's only 16 MB. :/

As a matter of fairness, might as well report any Wii centric devs that go under, however rare that may be.

Deep Silver Vienna (developer of Cursed Mountain) goes under.

In yet another case of typical 3rd party failure, I stumbled across a trailer on Youtube for a game that I've never even heard of. It looks like the Swordplay Showdown mode from WSR, except you're fighting the undead and you have stupid hair.

Pretty big talk from a man trying to sell the DSi XL, which is just a bigger DSi.

Nintendo isn't pretending the XL is anything more than a bigger DSi. Apple is acting like the iPad is revolutionary.

And this is why my boycott is justified.

It's one thing to ignore the system. It's another to flood it with garbage and sabotage the perception of the platform. Ubisoft started the whole meme of "put shovelware on Wii and put your real efforts on the HD consoles".

Word of mouth doesn't matter if you don't ship any copies.

Freaking ridiculous. It's easier to track down your typical Atlus game these days than it is to find Shattered Memories.

I have no idea how a NPC Luigi's Mansion would even work unless they move the camera to a behind-the-shoulder view.

I guess Sony realized motion controls aren't so easy after all. Moving it to fall also makes me wonder if they plan on betting the holiday season on this thing.

TalkBack / Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii Sets Sales Record in Japan
« on: January 20, 2010, 05:28:07 PM »
That may be why 3D Mario isn't very popular in Japan, but 2D Mario is still more popular than 3D Mario, even in the west, as you'll see over the next few years as NSMB Wii hangs around the top 10 sales. There simply haven't BEEN any 2D Marios released on consoles for nearly two decades to prove that point.

I'm don't think anybody is really saying one is inherently better than the other, just that they are very different games that both happen to have Mario in them. Just because you like 2D Mario doesn't necessarily mean you'll like 3D mario and vice-versa, because they aren't the same.

I've still stuck to my boycott of Ubisoft. Of course, I'll make a single exception for NMH2. I'm not going to punish poor Suda.

The only way I would even consider buying RS2 is if it's GOTY material.

Recently, retailers started to reject new mini-game collections to stock.  Way to go, Ubi.

I can confirm from my last trip to Best Buy that there was a lot less shovelware (i.e. Ubisoft games) on the shelves. Most of it is now on a small shelf of "value software" along with discounted titles like Tales of Rehash.

General Gaming / Re: The PATHETIC state of the gaming 'media'
« on: January 18, 2010, 05:39:09 PM »
Honestly, these sort of rants don't bother me anymore. In fact, I hope they write more of them. Do you realize how hilarious they're going to be to read five years from now?

The only thing really worth discussing about this is the fact that I've never seen game "journalists" openly campaign against a game. This is now the THIRD time IGN has railed against Mario. Isn't that just a little bizarre?

It seems to me the real point of these rants isn't to bash the game, or even to point out just how "lazy" Nintendo is, but to bash the people buying the game. The implication behind all of this is that everybody is too stupid to realize just how lazy the game is, and they just wont let it go.

Daemon also proves in his editorial that game journalists view games with a checklist in mind. I guess game design doesn't count for anything these days.

It's hilarious how these Mario 5 rants keep appearing right after NPD, as if the huge sales are triggering these reactions. Maybe if they keep writing these editorials people will stop buying it.

IGN has no credibility on this issue anyway. They gave NSMB DS a great score and never complained about the "laziness" there, yet the vastly superior Wii game is treated like crap.

Some people are worried that Reggie and NOA won’t bring it over. I am confident that they will bring it over. “But it has violence!” Reggie likes violence. I can see at E3 2010 that Reggie comes out and says, “To all those who say our machine caters only to women and grandparents, eat this:” and the video shows Zangeki.

It seems they updated the story. Now it will only need to sell 4 million copies to break even.

Phew! I was worried there for a second.

No layoffs yet, but for a look into the future:

Red Dead Redemption will need to sell 5 million copies to break even

Wow.

I bet the director of LKS is one of those sad people who insist dual analog is vastly superior to pointer controls.
