Nintendo Gaming / RE:DS wireless connectivity
« on: June 28, 2004, 02:01:49 PM »
Wait, wait, wait...Mr. Von Riktor is so not getting this.  Nintendo.com (and the latest issue of Nintendo Power) are both saying that the DS's reach is capable of "thousands of miles" (be the method Internet/Bluetooth/whatever, I don't give how).  Theoretically, that means I could be Crystal-Chronicle'ing with a guy in, say, Detroit, if I'm in Dallas (don't get all touchy about my measurements, it's a hypothetical situation).  Yet Picto-Chat (one of the things Mr. Von Riktor is looking forward to the most about the DS) is able to message with a distance of only a hundred feet...hell, Majesco's Messenger crap for the GBA stretches three friggin' miles (15,840 ft)!  5,280,000 ft=1,000 miles, what Nintendo claims it should be able to do.  If they can pull off more than 100 ft on the GBA, what's the problem wiht the supposedly-more-powerful DS, dammit!?

I'm predicting some sort of online registration to be able to use the Bluetooth/online/whatever feature.  That means, I can name my DS - LEGALLY!  Oh, joy!  My sweetie Molly will be awaitin' me this winter.  Olé, all.

Ask 'im why the hell Network Transmission was so f'ing hard it wasn't even funny.  No, really - ask him if he intended to aim it at older gamers, and if not, why the insane difficulty?

Um...yea, the E3 stuff someone mentioned, I definitely would like to see that.

Oh, and in DS Discussion, I believe someone posted Capcom's thoughts on the DS/PSP War - ask him if he can validate this info.

Yeah.  Tell your girlfriend I love her (covers face and hopes Syl doesn't smack him).

General Chat / RE:Futurama
« on: May 27, 2004, 05:06:12 AM »
Believe it or not, I've missed every episode of Futurama (I've been wanting to watch it for SOOOOOO long!) for like the past three years, and last night, I finally caught it on Cartoon Network (summer rocks) for the first time.  I used to watch The Simpsons religiously, and I had no idea Groening created Futurama - I actually knew nothing about it; just what the characters looked like (not even their names) and that it was tremendously funny.  But when I saw Groening's name, I knew we had a quality cartoon going for us here.  I now plan on watching the Adult Swim run religiously, 'cause the attack of the overly-large brains was just too funny (actually, it wasn't so much so, but apparently a lot more funny, judging by some of these quotes).  Anyhow, The Simpsons is still my favorite show of all time, and always will be, but just after one episode, Futurama's up there with it.

1) The Simpsons
2) Futurama
3) Invader Zim
4) The Brak Show
5) Homestar Runner (it counts AFAIC)

Those are the all-time best cartoons of EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVERNESS.  I end this post by saying...er...can't think of a quote, but...uh...Mr. Von Riktor wet his pants till he was twelve!  No, that...er...

General Chat / Teh Bottle Rocketz
« on: May 25, 2004, 03:23:34 AM »
Using these instructions, I was able to (with my friend) buld a very, very slick bottle-rocket launcher (we're using 1L Mountan Dew bottles and firing them at the fence), and it works great.  It's just that we used similar PVC launchers at school, and with theirs', using a pin and string, we were able to pull the string and fire it at will.  But with our method (we're using an old yet good electric tire pump), the rocket just fires when its ready.  If anyone has any ideas on how we can time our launches like that (we've got all summer on our hands), please let me know right away.  Thanks a lot! ;-)

EDIT: Thanks everyone...er, Jale...for helping...er, trying to help...but we've come up with a way to utilize the whole pin-string thing.  Go ahead and lock up this thread, mods, it's useless now...

EDIT 2: Well..my idiot friend's idea didn't work...so, uh...I'm kinda looking for suggestions again...oh, and Jale, we're kinda trying to steer away from the elctricity (we're using water) if at all possible (thanks anyway).  PLEASE, we need help!

I think you misunderstood what I was saying, Bill.  Don't get me wrong, the game is one of the best I own, but in all fairness, the graphics aren't wonderful.  Everything else, however, is 100 percent perfect (except the fact that it's TOO FRIGGIN' EASY).

And akdaman1, um...I'm uh...not at liberty to say...yeah, Mr. Von Riktor, that one wasn't a very good one...yeah...uh...heh, heh...this is kinda awkward...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:A bold idea for the N5
« on: April 30, 2004, 03:14:30 AM »
Very, very nice concept, Ian, but as several have stated, it's just not financially realistic.  My solution is a tad obvious, and I haven't read the other posts but someone probably already had this diea, but I think a fusion between Nintendo and SEGA is in order.  That way, they could  be NintEGA (lol) or SEGAtendo (lol again), and since they'd be one huge company, that one huge company would derive profits from licensing, and that's one less company Nintendo would HAVE to license.  Think about it; that means the rocking ESPN series would return to Nintendo's home console, and SEGA is a heavy supporter of going online.  This means the N5's third party might (hopefully) be more supportive of online if the first party itself is going all-out.  Please, Iwata-san, read this thread...

I'm pro NintEGA.

...say, "WE LOVE TEH SUBS!"  They do a little dance, trip on each others legs, fall down, crack open their spleens, which burst blood at their eyes, blinding them, and when everyone's blind they walk aimlessly into each other, causing their heads to fall off, which land on their legs, which break, and their arms cut themselves off with saws, thus leaving only a torso to chew teh brain of teh Ganon who was magically wished back into this story by Link, who was wished back by Zelda, who was wished back by Goku who said, "WE LOVE TEH DRAGON BALLS!" And we say, "kewl, u wised us bek wid tem, det ez kewl."  And he says, "No, I love the dragon's balls." and we stare...

(COME UP WITH A GOOD RESPONSE TO that!)

Reader Reviews / Donkey Konga Import Review - WORK IN PROGRESS
« on: April 22, 2004, 02:40:53 AM »
It's been about two months since my father returned from Japan, Donkey Konga and two Tarukonga Controllers in hand.  I couldn't wait!...unfortunately, I had to, seeing as not one store in my area had heard what a FreeLoader was, other than FX, who hadn't gotten a shipment of them in months.  Luckily for me, their next shipment came in the following Thursday night, and soon, I was whacking those Tarukongas away.

EYE CANDY
Some people feel that it is unfair to judge a simple rhythm game on graphics, but I disagree.  DanceDanceRevolution, better known as DDR, is able to incorporate brilliant visuals into an equally brilliant rhythm game.  Of course, being a huge fan of Konami's calorie-burning bonanza, I was a bit...very disappointed at the graphics of our subject, Namco's Donkey Konga.  We've got red circles, yellow circles, pink circles, spiky circles...nothing brilliant.  The only real visuals are animals dancing and monkies beating the hell out of drums.  Transitions between visuals are uneven and aren't smooth at all, in the manner of simple sprite animation.  And ignoring that, the actual pictures could have been done on the Nintendo 64 - the textures practically don't exist!  Rareware would be ashamed. EYE CANDY gets a shameful * out of *****.

GAMEPLAY
Now we're getting to the good part.  Okay, let me break it down: red circle right drum, yellow circle left drum, spiky circle clap, pink circle both drums.  Extended circles means go all out.  Get it?  Got it.  Yes, simple, but without giving a rhythm game a shot, you can't imagine what it's like.  Seeing...(continued soon!)

Very, very nice find, Mr. Ditz.  Mr. Von Riktor salutes you.  Personally, I think this game could be a hit - I think Nintendo might really have it straight with the DS.  I just hope it's not "too weird for us" like Giftpia is...
