I'm in about the same boat.  I think I will be picking up Killer7 and Resident Evil 4 myself.  Dead Phoenix is one that definately does interest me though, and I will be watching it.

Personally I could care less about either game.  However, I am angry because the other two systems get them, but GameCube was promised them a long time ago, and we are now getting ripped off.

Ok, that's enough for me.  Time to break out the champagne now I think.  From the sounds of it, this is something OTHER than MGS2, and for that I am indeed very happy.  If it doesn't include Raiden, I will positively jump for joy.  Maybe I will begin to take back all that stuff I said about Konami for the last few years too if this is really good.

Alpha, I hated both Raiden, and the plot of MGS2.  Substance just doesn't cut it.  The entire game would have to be reworked to make me happy.  The tanker level was awesome, but every bit after that got progressively worse.  By the time I got to the end, I hated the game.  But I promptly started on the tanker level again right after I had finished the game.  The difference then was I had the brains to quit when Raiden came on stage.

A remake of the first MGS game would be a dream come true for me.  Can you imagine the last cut scene with Sniper Wolf with GameCube's hardware and Prologic II sound?  I almost peed myself thinking about that...  Actually, I might just og relive that scene right now.  It stands as one of the greatest video game moments EVER in my books.

And while Legend of Mana was a tight game, it just lacked the cohesiveness of  SD3.

Since they have staff from all previous projects, this seems to an ambitious title. Can't wait to hear further news!

I haven't played the first game yet... (But I will!)

I loved SD2 though.  It remains my favorite of the series, and one of the best on SNES IMO.  SD3 I played, and came very close to beating (lost interest close to the end) but the lack of a cohesive plot just kind of bored me.  Legend of Mana, well....  I shudder to think of that game.

I am not mad at the 9.5.  I am mad because a piece of crap like Vice City gets a perfect score while Zelda doesn't.  It's like that girl you had a crush on back in high school who would only go out with the most worthless men she could find.  It's insulting.

I have played Bloody Roar and SSBM on GameCube.  Not being a fan of 2D fighters, I passed up Capcom vs SNK.  I haven't had any problems with the controls in either of those game.  In Bloody Roar I used the D-Pad exclusively.  Other than bruising my thumb quite badly as it was the first time I did so in years....  I had no complaints.

OC Remix seems to be down at the moment.  But what song was it?  Chances are I already have it anyways...

A few of my favorites are

Chrono Trigger - Lost Fragments of the Past  (Actually a Radical Dreamers remix, but most wouldn't know that.  It's my favorite OC Remix to date)
Super Metroid - Maridia (Drowned in Exile)
Super Mario 64 - Sunken Suite
Super Mario 64 - Liquid Mario
Silent Hill - White Claudia Rock
Radical Dreamers - Far Drama
Zelda 64 - Pachelbel's Ganon
Secret of Mana - Dirge for the Frosty Plains
Final Fantasy - Beginning of the Fantasy
Chrono Trigger - Schala Ancients
Chrono Cross - Time's New Scar
Zelda 64 - River of Time
Super Mario Bros - Da Pipes

It could simply be that there are two modes to play the game in.  One where the GBA is optional, and one where it is required.  (ala Perfect Dark and the Expansion Pack).  But since we know dick all aobut the game, I suppose it's better not to speculate.  I can't wait for E3 though.

blindtree, you are really onto something.  I have the Metal Gear cart, but I have never finished the game, or even gotten reasonably far as the game is stupidly difficult.  It would be interesting to see the original two remade.  And I have heard from someone I trust that Metal Gear 2 was by far the best in the series, and MGS was like a cheap clone of it.  (I am talking about the one on MSX, not NES)

Yes, it's still exclusive to GameCube.  The thing is that Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code Veronica have already been on plenty of systems before GameCube, so they can't put that sign on it.  Resident Evil 1 was a different story entirely, as the game was vastly modified for the GameCube release.

Do I know you from Star Kingdoms btw?

I remember that article.  However, Kojima later said that it was a mistranslation, or he was misunderstood or something, and expressed his desire to make a GameCube project, as he personally wasn't of that mindset.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

As for a Wrinkle in Time, I was forced to read that in gradeschool, and I remember hating it.  At any rate, I do understand your point, as Watership Down was a children's book that I loved, and I know many other adults who love it as well.  And believe me, I do get your point on the games too.  But as far as games rated E always being kiddy, that's not true.  A game can only be Kiddy if it is on a Nintendo system.  Look at all the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro fans after all.  (Or better yet:  Kingdom Hearts.)

I already own the original MGS for PC, but if it comes to GameCube in an enhanced form, I will buy it all over again.  The game is one of my favorites of all time, and it could only get better.  (Although they had better well leave the voice acting as-is.)

However, if they are thinking of porting the crap that is MGS2 to GameCube instead, I could really care less.  I hate that game.

Nintendo Gaming / Zelda bonus disk boxart.
« on: February 26, 2003, 11:45:41 AM »
Well...  I gather that he used the backside of the box art as is...  the problem is that mine looks very different.

The writing on the back is in both French and English, meaning that there are only 3 screenshots on the back.  But each screenshot has a short caption below it, and there are icons for all the demos on this disc as well.  Also, the background consists of red streaks rather than the blue picture that's in the boxart above.

Also, while his boxart says it's only for resale in Canada, US, Latin America and Mexico, mine says in big letters:  NOT FOR RESALE.

The front cover is very different though.

The top half of it has a logo for OoT, with red writing, and the lower half has a logo for Master Quest, in blue writing.  (Like the in-game startup screens).  Seperating the two is a gold box that says TWO-GAME BONUS DISC (In English and French).  It doesn't say Only for GameCube at the top, it just has a GCN logo in the upper right corner.  In the upper left corner, it has a Game of the Year 1998 logo, in obth English and French.  At the very bottom is a gold Triforce with the words "NEVER BEFORE RELEASED!" written in both English and French.  The background for the front just has the same red streaks that are on the back.

The side of the disc is identical.  Simple, yet striking plain white text against a black background.

Of course I am Canadian if you hadn't figured that out yet.

Well, head over to here and download ePSXe 1.5.2

head over here and get Pete's GPU plugins (1.68).  Use the OpenGL plugin if you have an nVidia card, and the D3D if you have an ATI card.  You can also pick up the CDR plugin if you wish.  It's the one that I use, but the default one works pretty good too.

go here to get the Eternal SPU 1.20.  It's about the best SPU plugin for ePSXe, and is also the one I use.

After you do that, you are all set to go, except for one thing.  PM me if you need help with that, as it is not something to be discussed on this board.   Once you do get it up and running though, I assure you that the picture quality is far better than you could ever expect to come up with on the PS2.  The graphics are nice and crisp, and you can play with all kinds of cool settings to make everything look nice.

If you need help configuring your plugins, let me know, and I will help.

Kojima-sama has gone on record saying that he wanted to make a GameCube game.  This could be it.  Also, when Konami wanted to know what GC owners thought of their policies, their forums were wanged by all the GCN fans.  (To use Gabe's word for it...  )

But yes, I would really like some confirmation on this.  If it was an actual interview, someone else should be reporting the same information.  (PGC maybe?)

Any staff members wish to confirm or deny this?  I am really hopeful right now.

He was an extra character created for the E3 and Cube Club demos.  Silicon Knights didn't want to give out any spoilers, so they created him as a character to test double weapons, and for the demos.  He doesn't appear in the full game.

By the way, Grey Ninja, your FF list's number 1 was perfect.  Call it nostalgia, but those two are the best.  I simply cannot imagine appreciating Final Fantasy without adoring FF 2/4 and 3/6 (darn it, this gets complicated...haha).  I'll never forget playing FF3/6 for the first time and seeing that beautiful, snowy mode-7 into as the city drew nigh and the best song Nobuo ever wrote faded in slowly, perfectly in-sync with the on-screen graphics.  No polished cinematic Square has done since has matched that magic.  If you ask me.  Just thinking about it makes me want to boot it up again.  I think I will, with the stereo up really, really loudly.  FF6--best music of any videogame, period.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who still remembers the golden era, where Square ruled all.

RahXephon, might I suggest ePSXe?  I finished Xenogears using it, and only had some minor problems.  If your PC is up to the task, then it shouldn't be much problem.  I can help you through the parts that crash the emulator.  Trust me though, you can't go wrong by buying the discs if you can find them anywhere.

Ok, I am swinging WAAAY off topic now, but RahXephon, have you ever played Xenogears?  That is by far the best RPG ever made.  There's a love story far more epic than anything in any Final Fantasy game, and enough action and adventure for any gamer.  I don't share your love for a great love story, but this game is truly something different.  The ONLY reason I would buy a PS2 is for Xenosaga.

I am about the most hardcore Nintendo fan you will ever meet.  I do try to be fair though, and Xenosaga seriously has the potential to be the greatest game ever made.  When I say that I have a desire to get a PS2 for that game, you better believe it's something special.

Regarding Final Fantasy IX however, I thought the characters were far too cliched and flat, and the story was laughable.  I really don't know what you saw in the game.
