Nintendo Gaming / a thing nintendo should do..

I say why not just make a GCN player for Nintendo's next console that will play both GCN and GBA games?

Nintendo Gaming / Pokemon RPG finally official*
« on: May 22, 2003, 03:56:05 PM »
Ermm... this might be stupid question, but I've kind of been out of the Pokemon loop for a while.  Is there a Pokemon Stadium coming to GameCube?  If so, will it be compatable with Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow?  Does anyone know that yet?  If so, I would want to buy one, as I passed on the N64 incarnations, and recently found out that I do have a couple of friends who play Pokemon.  (YAY!)

Anyways, I can't wait for a real 3D GameCube Pokemon RPG.

Yeah, I actually agree with that.  We NEED that demo disc.

Nintendo Gaming / Vancouver BC Gamecube owners?
« on: May 22, 2003, 03:52:03 PM »
Well, since there seem to be other Canadians posting here...  I may as well say hi too.    Lethbridge, Alberta over here.  I tried to get the demo disc from Toys R Us today, but they never heard of it.  (surprise surprise).  I also checked Zellers and Future Shop, but I didn't see anything resembling a demo disc.

No, I wasn't.

But I did pay the $30 to be a licensed DivX Pro user, how about that?

Erm... I downloaded the spyware infested pro pack, and later reformatted my hard drive to clean it all off and installed the basic pack... then I hassled PGC to use DivX encoding in their game movies.

Anyways, it's great to have you here DivXGamingGrl, as the presence of VIPs such as yourself does nothing but enhance the quality of this board.  And you can be sure that all GameCube owners are very pleased about DivX support on our system.

Heh.  I just got through playing a bunch of rounds in the Grid with slow mo, 4 perfect sims dressed as agents, and an assortment of hand guns.  It was quite cool.

ruby, you are entitled to have a single backup to do with as you please of whatever games you like.  That's the law.  However, it is ILLEGAL to download the backups, even if you own the game, as it is a backup of a different cart from the one you own.

Your post was very informative though, and quite detailed.  Kudos to a job well done.

Nintendo Gaming / the GBP/GC bundle to put the nail in xbox coffin?
« on: May 21, 2003, 08:24:10 PM »
Pipe dream, and that's about it.  If anything were to finally kill Xbox, it would be serious Square-Enix support, coupled with Rockstar and Konami games.

I do not regret buying my GameCube at launch.  We all knew that the price would be dropped, and bundles would be introduced later.  We wanted our games, and we got them.

Dude, Too Human has been on the back burner for over 5 years, and Silicon Knights never claimed that it ever came off the back burner.  Whoever told you that it was going to be at E3 was a big big liar.

Roger that... I was just a little concerned that it would inevitably head into illegal territory, and I wasn't sure what PGC's policy on emulation was.

There is no legal way of playing NES, SNES, N64, or GameBoy games on your computer though, unless you own some way of backing up your own cart.  The problem is that to play such games on your computer, you will need the images of the carts that you wish to play (ROMs).  Since the neccessary hardware isn't available to most people, you will have to acquire the ROMs elsewhere, which is in fact, illegal.

The actual emulation software though, will make your computer behave in much the same way as the original hardware.  It's quite useful to developers who want to make games, but aren't licensed developers for the system, and of course, in the case of PSX emulation, the emulator enhances the gameplay experience in every way.  (graphics, sound, control, etc.)

PSX emulation is legal though, as you can play your original CDs on your computer.  Check out www.epsxe.com for details.

Ummm... did I miss something here?  Who are you talking to?

I asked about that when these new boards first arrived.  Rick said that he thought it would be a huge bandwidth draw.  (although personally, I think that rechecking each of the forums I have visited today 20X each looking for the new posts on the threads I am interested in draws more bandwidth...)

General Chat / Canadian Dollar
« on: May 21, 2003, 11:57:35 AM »
Last night I was completely SHOCKED at the price of the Canadian dollar.  According to the powers that be, the Canadian Dollar is now worth over $0.75 USD.  That's completely amazing.  That means that it only takes 4 dollars Canadian to make 3 dollars American.  At this rate, buying stuff from the US is actually going to be a BARGAIN.

I can buy games, hardware, and doodads from the US cheaper than I can get them from Canada right now... this is truly a great time for Canadians.

*coughcough*  There is no GeForce3 MX....

Anyways, I don't really care about uber-high resolutions, if I can run the game smoothly, and with a fair amount of detail and effects, I am happy.  I am not much of a graphics whore at all.

2494
Heh.  Sounds fun.  I might just try that later on.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo Power's Defense of GameCube
« on: May 21, 2003, 11:47:33 AM »
Personally I am dissapointed in Nintendo for stooping low enough to use the same tactics as Sony and Microsoft.  I remember in the first issue of OXM, they had 72 reasons why the Xbox was better than PS2 or GameCube.  I bought that issue simply so that I could mock the Xbox fans on my message board at that time.  Their reasons were both false and retarded.

Nintendo's reasons are a lot better, but I still don't like them using the same tactics.

Nintendo Gaming / Xbox 2 is doomed!
« on: May 20, 2003, 04:57:40 PM »
Hmmm... the quality of the writing in that article just makes me a *little* skeptical.  I will refrain judgement until I see it on slashdot.  And I certainly can't wait to see what ATI is going to produce for Nintendo.

Yet once again, I am sure that all the Nintendo fanboys will be up in arms once more when it's announced that the Nintendo console will feature lower numbers on their specs all round, but better architecture.  (once more).    Personally though, if Nintendo makes a new GameCube with higher numbers on everything, I would be happy as a pig in... crap.

I have one, and I just responded to the PM you sent me.    It performs well with all games.

GameFreak, I would still take a Voodoo3 above a TNT2 any day of the week.    Those who owned Voodoo3 cards would know what I am talking about.  Those cards should have been illegal they were so much fun.  And let's not forget the weird resolutions that nVidia cards don't support such as... 960x720?  (Is that right?  It's been a while, but I MISS that resolution)
