NWR Feedback / RE: PlanetGamecube Pop-Ups
« on: December 09, 2003, 04:35:28 PM »
you know...  I think I have done pretty good trying not to see this thread for so long.

BUT USE A BETTER BROWSER!!!!!

You might think me a crackhead, but use this browser and you might be VERY surprised.  Don't reply to me saying that IE does the job just fine until you at least try it.  It's better than IE in every way, and it's faster.  And you know what?  I haven't seen an unrequested popup since I have started using it.

I hate Christmas for an entirely different reason that I do not wish to go into.  Let's just say that something REALLY bad happened to me on Christmas Eve, and every Christmas since has been really horrible for me.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Changing GameCube Face Plates
« on: December 09, 2003, 04:28:15 PM »
You can replace the faceplate by opening up the lid.  There are two tabs underneath that hold the faceplate on.  hold those and push, and the faceplate will come right off.

I have seen CUBE magazine in Save On Foods here in Canada.  I saw a nice Resident Evil faceplate and a nice Resident Evil faceplate, but could never afford to buy either of them at the time.

You know, you would really be amazed at how easy it is.  I think that I am without a doubt the person here with the most posts, yet I am sure that one day within the next 6 months at most, I just won't come back.  I've done it before, and I am sure I will do it again.

aoi, just curious... can you tell me what this looks like on a pocket pc?  By my understanding, it SHOULD work, I just don't know if it does or not.

Sorry for derailing the thread on the second post...

I am not going to say you are wrong... but I am quite sure that I wouldn't fly off the handle if it was something so simple as that.  Maybe they did change the ad... but it just doesn't seem likely to me any way you cut it.  I will have to watch for the commercial again at any rate.

mouse_clicker has it right.  I was referring to the rather deep literary references and epic backgrounds that joe-blow-works-at-gas-station would not normally understand.  I didn't bother fighting with you SUPER, because frankly, I think you are one of the people I was referring to.

sorry, I was coding, and got sidetracked.

enigma has it right though.  Make sure you totally waste your partitions SOMEHOW before you reinstall windows, just in case.

get yourself a clean boot disk, and boot from it.  Tear apart your hard drive with fdisk, and rebuild all your partitions.  Then you can reformat to your leisure.  The Windows 98 CD can take over from there.

fdisk I THINK is included on Win98 boot disks.  Just use it from the command line by typing "fdisk"

In the menus that come up, delete all your partitions, then create a new Primary Boot Partition... or something like that.  It's been a while since I have cleaned my hard drive THAT thoroughly.

Well, I would suggest Norton Antivirus.... but you already seem to have tried that.

http://www.trendmicro.com/en/products/desktop/pc-cillin/evaluate/overview.htm

That's the virus killer we use at work, and I have been given a free copy to use at home, and it did clean a few virii off my system a couple of months ago.  It's really not that bad.

But install it, and then run it a few times, and see what it says, k?

I don't hate Star Fox Adventures because it wasn't a Star Fox game.  I hated it because the game simply BORED ME to tears.

It's about time.  I am very happy with this.  Sega can make their games as usual, but under the direction of Sammy, who hopefully have a lot better business sense.  Sega just wasn't good for Sega if you know what I mean.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Super Smash Brothers? What's the big deal?
« on: December 07, 2003, 06:04:51 PM »
It's a party game at heart.  If you are playing it alone, then you will most likely be bored out of your skull.  But with more people, the game is amazingly fun.  It's a very solid gameplay experience because of the close interactivity of the players.

Phantasy Star Online (sounds like you would like it.  )
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (this is just pure fun)

...

That's all I can think of at the moment...  Both are excellent though.

I hate the game.  It's one big boring treasure hunt.  I preferred Star Fox Adventures to Sphinx, and I am really not a fan of SFA.

Well done.  PC Games have been bothering me more and more as time goes on, and you expressed my own views perfectly.

The one thing I would like to add is that the PC Gamer mentality is affecting consoles too.  When PC Games go, I think it's going to take a good share of the console games with them.  The problem is that the average person doesn't know the difference between consoles, PCs, or even genres.  I know lots of people who bought an Xbox because the hardware could do a few more things according to them, and they both played games, so what was the problem?

The thing is that people no longer see a difference in games, and I think that mentality is brought over from PCs.

I am seriously worried at the way that things are going, and I am not seeing a clear end in sight.  It just seems to me that things get worse every year.

KDR, Hostile, there's actually a gamma option in the game, so you can make it as bright as you like.  Believe me, that option saved my butt many a times, given the fact that my TV is darker than the inside of a coffin on a moonless night.

You would not believe how difficult it was playing the volcano level in Rogue Squadron on that TV... it was like taking wild stabs in the darkness while driving down a street at 80 mph.

I actually took my GameCube over to a friend's house tonight.  She thought the game sucked.  Mainly because she sucked at the game I think, but her main complaint was that the camera angles sucked, and she couldn't point and click at the enemies to make them die.

I gave her my standard lecture on how PC Gamers just suck at any game where you can't click on the enemy to make them die, but she just said that she didn't think that when backtracking she should have to put up with a camera angle that showed 10 feet in front of her.  I told her that no camera system was perfect, and refrained from telling her that she was on crack.

In short, the answer to your question is that Eternal Darkness is intended for a person who has a love for dark things, and has a minimum of ability to solve simple tasks of dexterity and problem solving.  My friend had a problem differentiating the R button from the A button.

Eternal Darkness is a very intellectual game, and the true genius of it may very well be over some people's heads, given the truly literary atmosphere of the game.  If you don't like to read, and you don't like deep things, it's entirely possible you don't like Eternal Darkness.

KDR, I am a pretty fine shooter both in real life and in video games.  I find that after a few beers, I actually play a little better.  The reason is that I am able to hold off the shot for a fraction of a second longer, which gives me more time to line up the shot.  Basically, I am calmer, and have a greater amount of patience after a few beers.  My reaction time and sight isn't affected to a great degree.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Quick And Easy Question

Platformers seem to be covered.  The main characteristic is unrealistic physics, and tasks of manual dexterity to solve problems.  The genre is closely related to Adventure games, but the main difference is that Adventure games often focus on more story elements, and the puzzles are more intellectual or explorative based.  Platformers will often feature jumping in a prominant fashion, while Adventures may often leave out jumping entirely.

RPGs main feature is level building, and gaining of experience and stats.  If the game lacks those, it would no longer be classed as an RPG.  RPGs are divided into two groups.

The American version focuses almost entirely on sending a group of characters into a dungeon to fight enemies and become stronger.

The Japanese version focuses on providing a storybook, or play style of show.  The characters and story in a Japanese RPG must be top notch, while the gameplay is often allowed to suffer if the story and characters are good.

I'm working on the alcohol related stuff right now, and I am hardly rich.    It's never too early to start your journey to becoming an alcoholic.

The news is old, but on the subject of video stores?

My local Rogers finally gave some REAL shelf space to GameCube.  I went there last week to rent Eternal Darkness, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had moved the GameCube games to a new and better section.

General Chat / RE: Why you should drop IE
« on: December 06, 2003, 08:25:20 PM »
actually, "eg" means "for example".  IE means "That is"

And I know that it might be incomprehensible to you... but some acronyms have several meanings that are determined by context.  eg, FPS:

Fields Per Second
Frames Per Second
First Person Shooter

see the little QT and WMV logos next to the name of the link?  right click on the WMV icon, and select "save link to disk".

Trust me.  I know these things because I have been visiting GameTrailers and saving movies for months.  (although that particular movie I got from Konami's website).
