General Gaming / RE: psp specs revealed
« on: August 04, 2003, 02:52:15 AM »
Arent they comming out with another version of the PS2 that has slightly better specs? Sony is notorious for doing stupid stuff like this, especially back in the haydays of the PSX.

Anyway, this still cant work. But I guess they'll have some sort of rechargable battery they'll build into the system to make it last longer, but thats just a far out guess. I think that the PSP is full of empty promises, and Sony will only show off half of what they planned. Also, calling it a Playstation Portable is okay, I probably would've got one if it could play the old Playstation games. Especially since the PS2 can play the old PSX games. But apparently all we're gonna get a bunch of PSX ports like Crash Bandicoot Portable for $30.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Games with "2 players simultaneous"
« on: August 04, 2003, 02:38:07 AM »
Timesplitters 2 is an okay coop game. Theres nothing really wrong with it, its just not as remarkable as most sites claim. Its just a 2nd player dropped into a 1 player game.

Ninja Turtles is comming out soon, I wish that Konami would spend the extra development time to add a 4 player mode, so all I can really reccomend is a rent.

Mystic Heroes doesnt have a real cooperative mode, but there is one that acts like one, but its more of a competition. Its rated T, and it may be a hard find, but this game is best when played with a friend or 3.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Will Nintendo EVER go online?
« on: August 01, 2003, 07:25:51 AM »
Isnt there usually an age limit to these things? =P

Anyway, I want LAN gaming to work. I'm sure this is kinda what Nintendo wanted all along. But I hope tey can have it where you and a friend can duke it out against other people =)

Lets hope that future FPS games like TS2 will get the lan treatment. Or maybe we can hope for Time Splitters Multiplayer for the GCN only =P

It discourages crappy developers to develop a crappy game for a superb system like the GCN

Nintendo Gaming / Could it be bad if other developers handle games?
« on: July 21, 2003, 08:54:09 AM »
We've all played Wario World, even though Treasure was behind it, it missed the great flare all Treasure (And in fact, Nintendo) games share, and recent reports at E3 found Star Fox GCN/Armada/Whatever hard to control and uninteresting. Could F-Zero or the other games become bad news for Nintendo?

The arcade versions (The games the console versions were based off of) had 4 player support. Konami is just getting lazy with this franchise.

Nintendo Gaming / Super Mario Advance 4

I hope your right about the piracy, because folks at Game FAQS just found bunch of enemies and items using cheats.

On a lighter note, you have no ability to spin jump even with the Feather cape.

General Gaming / Fight on Goemon! (long story)
« on: July 16, 2003, 02:26:54 PM »
Konami's screwed themselves up badly this year. They're keeping all of their big name brands for the PS2, heck, they're even screwing the Nintendo fans over. All of their franchises on the N64 and Game Boy are going to other systems. (Mostly PS2) Castlevania, NES, SNES, GB, N64, THEN PS2? What happened?

Sure Symphony of the Night isnt on any Nintendo system, but think about it, if theres a slew of Game Boy Advance titles, why no GCN version? Not to mention their titles arent doing as hot as they think. Sooner or later this company will bite the dust with its crackpot marketing team.

well ovbiously (It says press start in the top right corner through out the game for a reason) But you'd think Konami would quit being lazy and add 4 player support for the GCN build =P

Or if you get the Dreamcast version of SII from Europe or something =P

Im sure they'll slap it on PS2, if its not Sonic or Monkey Ball, its on the PS2.

Nintendo Gaming / Any good games going to be online?
« on: July 13, 2003, 02:50:15 PM »
How could you challenge people between console and arcade versions? Its like waiting 20 seconds in the arcade version for some console guy to come along and hope to god he does. Plus, I dont think arcades would like to pay to put them online anyway...

Nintendo Gaming / Super Mario Advance 4
« on: July 10, 2003, 07:38:36 PM »
I finally got to check out the Japanese rom of Super Mario Advance 4. Some of the bigger changes is that theres 3 save files, and one that takes you to World E+ (E-reader world) Too bad you cant scan cards...

Theres just graphical enhancements and not much else.  It does share some similarities with Donkey Kong Country though. The R button acts as a B button as well, and you have the ability to select 2 player mode (AKA Mario and Luigi), which is just a hot seat function as well. Great for Game Boy Player stuff. Too bad that theres no Mario Bros VS. mode within SMB3 (But Mario Bros. is included remember) Oh, so far all I can tell is that Luigi doesnt flutter like he does in the other Advance titles. He still moves his feet fast but thats it.

On the map is the L and R buttons, L brings up your item thing, it now shows 4 rows of items. R brings up a 2 choice menu, but all it does is take you to something about the E reader.

Wouldnt it be better to just play the GBA games via the internet? Remember that the Game Boy Player can utilize all the parts of the GCN, even the modem/broadband adapter.

The real reason is that its too costly and too much of a juggle to have a server for prople to play constantly on and get teriffic speeds. It could boost sales for Nintendo, but they'd be losing a large sum of money at the same time. Sure, Microsoft has their X Box Live service and the PS2 threw in Online capabilities to copy everyone else. But they're losing money at the same time, and developers also dont have a happy face either.

For example, the X Box's Live service is all run on one server which is for Microsoft. They're funded by the players to continue the service that goes for $50 a year, and appearently the 3rd party developers are either getting very little or squat in return for their server.

Okay, to tell you the truth, thats just my guess, but they are definatley losing money over this online stuff.

However Nintendo did have some talk with Game Spy on having a dedicated Nintendo server, which could give us Mario Kart Double Dash online capabilities. But dont hold your breath.

I dunno, I thought that idea was rushed. Especially how on the right side only gave you 1 mini game. And the first 2 I unlocked wernt very exciting.

Y'know, it'd be funny if we could play GCN demos courtesy of a Game Boy Advance cartridge =)

TalkBack / Midway's Arcade Treasures
« on: July 08, 2003, 05:25:25 PM »
I'm pretty sure it'll be arcade ports. the PSX had a similar arcade complimation with Gauntlet in it, and yes, they were all arcade ports. Sadly, it only featured 2 player in it. Which is probably why most of the other ones are 2 player only. Its a sad exsclusion, but the bonus stuff sounds very very VERY appetizing. If I have the money, I'd definatley get this.

Yeah, Quake 3 Arena for DC lets you play against PC users if they have the Dreamcast maps. Very cool.

Heck I've even seen servers that went up to 10 people! VS. the DC's 4 player limit. And some of them work...

TalkBack / New Old Harry Potter Game Announced
« on: July 08, 2003, 05:17:27 PM »
Now, this may come as a shock to all, but I enjoyed Chamber of Secrets. Sure, the teachers forced Harry into these strange dungeons with no way out but in, Harry sounded like a child (Unlike his manly counterpart in the movie) and you had to use a spell for every case sensitive point. But damnit, it was a good game. Though I'm skeptical about the whole idea of re-releasing the first PSX title. I do remember an announcement that this game would have a GCN release, but I didnt hear it being a port.

I just hope they dont have a Chamber of Secrets.5 =P
