Hopefully that means we also get more Korg in Thor 4.

I picked Endgame, Lion King, Cap Marvel.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Announced: Releasing September 20
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:40:42 PM »
I won't be picking this up. I have no need for a second Switch and my current one's size is fine. Never wished it was a little smaller. Battery life has never been a problem for me and I like tabletop mode option. This lite unit would be of no benefit to me at all.

Though about the unit itself, looks pretty much exactly as expected. But I think omitting the docking function was a terrible oversight. Sure, sell it without a dock, but it should have the functionality there. The hardware is the same. You have to wonder why they left it out? I assume the form factor doesn't allow it to sit snuggly in the existing dock and they didn't want to spend the resources releasing a revised dock? Or they want to focus on the portability aspect of this release?

Hopefully it might be unlockable in a future software update.

I wonder if the JK Simmons appearance indicates that we might have some crossover with the Raimi movies?  I suspect not though.  I imagine it was more of a "everyone loves JK's JJ so let's get him back".

Since Peter still has Edith I imagine he'll have something at his disposal to discredit the video.  Of course, the one bit of the video that was real was his name so there'll always be a risk that it could get out even if they do manage to patch this one.  But it was still an unexpected event regardless.

I picked the skrulls still being on earth as soon as the credits rolled to Cap Marvel so I'm pleased I was right about that.  We still very much have an opening for Secret Invasion.  But yeah, the big question is when did this exchange happen.  Have we actually had a real Nick Fury or is this the first time we've seen him?  Also, what about Maria Hill?  Where is she at?  Has she been a skrull since Avengers or did it happen afterwards.

You have to hand it to Marvel.  They were likely expecting a modest amount of their viewers to check out after the Infinity Saga but dropping some curve balls like that is one hell of a way to keep you invested.

It was great, I just kinda wish my knowledge of Spider-Man lore didn't spoil the obvious to any casual fan plot twist.

On the other hand, they were faithful to the character.  A lot of people whined about Iron Man 3 when they changed up the Mandarin  They tried to do something a bit different and unexpected and got roasted for it.  So this time they played it safe and gave us a character straight off the page of the comic book.

Far From Home -  Damn awesome.

Enjoyed it far more than Homecoming. I think I'd say this is now my favourite Spider-Man movie. Was a great ride with some awesome scenes.

Two post credit scenes which are both mandatory viewing.  Both of them got an audibly shocked WOW from me.

You have to wonder why they still need filler episodes despite being only a half length season.

I don’t think there was any way to land the ending especially with the villain being a mindless Ganon with no personality.

This really annoyed me.  He was Ganon in name only.  I would have much preferred they just left 'Ganon' out of in entirely and had this Calamity to be a completely new entity.  The other standout disappointment in the ending was the fact that Zelda was nowhere to be seen.  The whole game had been telling us that Zelda had been locked in a terrible battle with Ganon for the last 100 years.  When I arrived I expected to see Zelda being awesome, and I was expecting to fight alongside her.  None of that happened.  Once again, contrast that with TP.  Zelda was on horseback with me shooting Ganondorf with light arrows.  I loved that I was finally fighting with her.   BotW, despite the build up had none of the sort.

I didn’t cook much so I didn’t mind. Weapon degradation is too severe though I understand that it’s supposed to force players to try all of them and to keep exploring to find new ones. Would you mind going a little more in depth regarding the quality of life improvements in the user interface? I didn’t mind the UI.

To be honest, it's been a while since I've played so I can't remember too much about the QOL ideas I had at the time, but one that I do remember was the cooking.  Going through and manually selecting ingredients every time was terrible.  It makes sense if you're cooking a new recipe for the first time, but after I've unlocked a dish I should just be able to pick from a list of recipes and have the ingredients automatically put into the pot.  You could have that list sortable by the results (stamina, health, cold resistance etc), and some favourite slots to mark dishes you cook frequently.  Would have saved so much time.  The less time in menus the better.  That should be the goal for any adventure game.

Jeez , what a sad reaction.  Luckily I'd wager you're in the extreme minority. I absolutely did not expect to see the next Zelda so soon and I am beyond excited.

What can I say? BotW turned out to just be not for me.  Let me preface this with saying that Twilight Princess is my favourite game of all time.  I have a love and respect for the Zelda series.  I even bought the Collector's Edition of BotW.  I was all in to love it, but it just didn't happen.

I actually think what made the reveal disappointing to me was because it had a really strong TP feel to it at the start of the trailer.  I was actually thinking are we going to see a TP sequel.  Then I saw blue Link and Zelda which just deflated me.  Then the specific confirmation it was a BotW sequel.

What didn’t you like?

I felt there was some excellent stuff in the game that was unfortunately drowned in annoyances.
- I didn't like the story (what there was of it), but that could have been negated if they nailed the ending.  To me the ending just fell completely flat.  The ending of TP is my favourite ending of any game I've played.
- Cooking got old in a screaming hurry
- Weapon degradation was too severe.
- There needed to be heaps of QOL improvements in the UI.

All those things just annoyed me and I have no desire to play it ever again.  Now don't take this as an instant condemnation of BotW2.  I'll certainly be keeping an eye on it and will quite likely be buying it on day one.  I just hope they change some of those points I mentioned.  I really hope it's good.

Zelda BotW sequel.  Not excited.  I got real TP vibes from it which made it very disappointing to see Blue Link and Zelda.  At the very least I hope they improve some of the pain points from the first game.

I'll keep a passive eye on it but it seems they're going the 'games as a service' route which is worrisome.  They didn't outright confirm no microtransactions so my interest collapsed quite a bit.

I think there was a bit of gameplay scattered throughout that trailer but not enough to gauge anything about it.

I enjoyed the XBox show.  I don't, and never will own one but it was an enjoyable, well presented show which knew what it wanted to be.

Bethesda, as usual was a complete and utter disaster.  I mean, I am preconceived to mark it down because I absolutely loathe Bethesda (at least the developer portion of them).  Half the damn show was just mobile games.  They should have just skipped this year but they've got too arrogant for that.  They wheeled out Toddy right at the start and even he had next to nothing to talk (or lie) about.

Don't get me wrong,  mobile games have their audience. But that audience in general doesn't even know that E3 exists.

Haven't seen the PC show.  Watching that after work today.

Saw Ubisoft though.  That started really strong then fell down flat.  May as well rename the show to the Tom Clancy conference.  Watch Dogs 3 looked interesting.  Not for me, but I can see the appeal.  Though I think they may have over done the pommy slang a bit.  But that's minor.  Bam Bam lifted it towards the middle though. Gods and Monsters looked great though.  Definitely keeping an eye on that one.

Looking forward to Squeenix purely for Avengers.  It better not be console exclusive or I'm going to be very annoyed.

The fact that random encounters are gone makes me a hell of a lot more interested.  After playing Let's Go's great system, trudging around waiting for a random popup would have got old in a screaming hurry.  Hopefully they also bring over a version of their wild catching system so I can get XP without having to worry about a baby pokemon being smushed into paste while trying to level it.

Godzilla 2.

It was definitely a big romp. If you like the monsters beating each other up this movie is for you. The actual story felt very contrived to me. Felt like it was thrown in as an afterthought just to string the monster fights together. But let's be honest, this movie was made for monster fights to I don't think I can criticise it too much for it.

The monster designs were great and they had some interesting moves too. And I never thought I'd ever say this but I never thought I'd get so attached to a giant bug. Mothra was just unexpectedly lovely.

Yeah, I love they are continuing to support the "Arrowverse", but I've fallen so far behind on all the shows that any effort to catch up is exhausting. Do hope they don't kick Batman while he is down. Makes me wonder why he disappeared.

Well Arrow is done.  Only a half season to go. They're presumably planning on replacing one useless (in a universe with metahumans) DC character with another one.

I wouldn't be able to tolerate starting up these shows again.  So many terrible decisions and writing. These are the stupidest superheroes ever put to live action media that I can remember.  Aside from Legends these shows take themselves so seriously which makes it even harder to tolerate.  I've been screaming at the TV so many times because of the stupid decisions these characters make.

Batwoman Trailer

I was considering watching this, I liked her in the last crossover.  But it seems that CW have gone straight for the political point making.  I have no issue at all that she's a woman, I have an issue with producers shoving it in my face. I can see she's a girl, and it's in the title.  I don't need to have lines like:

"... perfection"
"It will be, when it fits a woman"

thrown at me.  I don't see any decent reason that line in its current form needs to exist.  If they insist on including such a line they could have change it slightly to something like:

"It will be, when it fits me!"

Far less on the nose.    If Supergirl is anything to go by (which it likely will be since it's run by the same team) then they are going to be pushing hard on the whole woman thing.  I want to sit and enjoy a silly show, not be preached at by some random person in a studio with an agenda.

I really hate to defend this creative team, but do you remember the original Supergirl trailer they put out?

This team doesn't make good trailers, and this trailer was HEAVY on the "girl power", too. Yet the 1st season really wasn't as obnoxiously anti-men as the trailer made it out to be. In fact, several lines got edited out of context to MAKE them that way.

I don't want to defend the Supergirl team any further because Season 2 DID go heavily political (and that's why I stopped watching it), but this could also just be a case of a trailer cutting footage out of context to "make a statement."

I'm not going to watch it either way because I'm really behind on the Arrowverse shows and am kind of done with that universe in general for a while, but just sayin'.

You could be quite right.  It is just a trailer after all.  Could be cranking up the girl power to get that audience in early.  But I'll be expecting politics pushed hard until shown otherwise.

It's so odd they'd bring the Mandarin in after the events of Endgame.  It would have made more sense to have him when Tony is around to actually take on his nemesis.

144
I was hoping he'd appear in Endgame for the final battle too.  While he did indeed say he was done with the character, he has also said he'd love to be in the MCU.  I reckon it's not unrealistic that we'd see him come in one more time for a swan song, then hand the claws to the MCU successor.

145
Well he still has Avatar at number 1.  So he still holds the biggest one.  Let's see if it can do it.

147
Yep.  Finished filming a few months ago.

148
Bring. It. On.

149
For Pikachu, I dearly hope there are many fan moments for the cartoon viewers.  Maybe a song or two from the series. I'm ready to go back twenty years for a couple of hours.

But atleast it's technically a AoS spinoff.

https://au.ign.com/articles/2019/05/01/ghost-rider-tv-show-robbie-reyes-marvel-hulu-helstrom-daimon-hellstrom-satana-gabriel-luna

This doesn't indicate it's a spin-off.  The article says it'll be "a new iteration of the same character with a completely unconnected story."

I wonder if they're going for a higher rating with this one?
