On behalf of the NWR administration I want to thank you all for your participation in the Safe.TV Words+ panel. All of your answers will be used to maximize our profit and exploit people's television addictions. Also, sorry for the delays on some of the questions as I was traveling during most of this.

Max Renada is a moderator for the Canadian television station CNWR specializing in Nintendo programming. Renada spent hours scouring the airwaves of each streaming station looking for his next hit and one day came across Amazon Prime Videodrome, a plotless show which depicts anonymous forum users playing a Russian roulette type game known as “Safe Words”. The footage even includes graphic portrayals of their inevitable demise. Believing this to be the future of CNWR, Max immediately began unlicensed use of the show.

Renada watched the footage religiously to find out the truth about Amazon Prime Videodrome. Through subsequent viewings of past “games”, Max learns that not only is the footage not faked, but it is the public face of a political movement. Renada also learns that the enigmatic soccer correspondent Brian Insan O’Lord was currently in control of Amazon Prime Videodrome.

Renada tracks down O’Lord to a community center where vagrants were encouraged to engage in marathon sessions of the Safe Words game. He discovers that O’Lord managed the community, intending to realize his vision of a world in which Safe Words replaces every aspect of internet life.

Later, Max finds out that Amazon Prime Videodrome carries a broadcast signal that causes the viewer to develop a malignant brain tumor and experience lucid hallucinations. O’Lord had helped to create this as part of his vision for the future, and viewed the hallucinations as a higher form of reality. When O’Lord found out it was to be used for malevolent purposes, he attempted to stop his partners, but they used his own invention to kill him. In the year before his death, Brian O’Lord recorded tens of thousands of forum posts, which now form the basis of his appearances on the internet.

Now wanted for the murders of all the people that started watching Amazon Prime Videodrome and had developed tumors, Max takes refuge inside watching television. Appearing to him on the television, Bungle tells him he has weakened Amazon Prime Videodrome, but in order to completely defeat it, he must ascend to the next level and challenge Brian O’Lord in the championship round.

The television then shows an image of Max playing Safe Words, and the TV set explodes. Reenacting what he has just seen on the television, Max Renada utters the words "Paramount+" and ascends to become the champion of Safe.TV Words+ 19

On behalf of the whole NWR administration I want to apologize for all the unfortunate incidents that have taken place with this panel. I want everyone to know that is not what we stand for here at NWR. This was supposed to be a safe event. We even put the word "safe" in the name of our streaming service!  Well clearly we have not made safety enough of a priority and that is why we will limit the panel to one last question.

Khushrenada, which streaming service is safe?

Most of us get the notion to do something great when we are young. When there is a combination of morality and rebelliousness, these aspirations often lead to visions of corporate sabotage. For Dawn, it was just a matter of time until the opportunity presented itself. While walking downtown one day she tried to use her older model phone only to realize that the apps would no longer work since it could not update to the new iOS.
Overhearing her predicament, a bungling activist tabling nearby offered some insight.

"Planned obsolescence", they said "Apple makes older phones obsolete so you will buy a new one". Intrigued, Dawn spoke to the activist and found there was a whole suit of complaints to wager against the tech giant. "So not only are they contributing to environmental destruction, but there are allegations of child labor, somebody has to do something?". When the activist offered Dawn a chance to make a real difference, it came with a serious warning that if she were caught there could be serious consequences. After rolling her trusty dice and getting their blessing, she accepted the offer and said "the dice have decided". As she started on her mission thoughts began to race through her mind. Just drop this hacked phone off at the nearby Apple store and walk away. But it has to be done today, before the store closes. Why today? What happens if I am caught? Having second thoughts she ran up to somebody with the British royal guard attempted to explain the dire situation.

The gentleman listened attentively but was unable to help as he was just a Gundam cosplayer in town for the local anime/Star Trek convention. To him it was merely the raving of a lunatic and so he gestured toward the local mall assuming somebody there would be able to get her the help that she deserves. Looking at the clock it appeared she would make it in time, just in time. Down the escalators, past the food courts, and there is was, the Apple store. Rounding the corner of the mall, the view of a crowd of customers reminded her of the well known fact that every Apple store is busy, always.

Determined to push her way through she knocked innocent bystanders out of the way only to crash into a small child choking down food court trash. The collision knocked the two out and made a mess of the child's snack. As store manager J.P. came over to accept an Amazon delivery he noticed the incident and assuming it was just another kid barfing in the store, perfunctorily called to an associate to "Mop it up".

When she came to, her head was pounding and her vision was blurry. The sound of the alarm drilled through her ears and into her head. Reaching for the alarm she realized there wasn't one, only a ringing phone. Picking up the phone she said "Hello?" only to hear the sound of an entitled American complaining about problems with their iPhone. As fast as she tried to jump, the chains pulled her right back into the metal chair she was bound to. Looking above her cubicle she prepared to scream for help only to realize she was a single person in a warehouse full of thousands, all answering phones for Apple customer service. With armed security already suspicious, she swallowed the soul crushing nature of her future imprisonment and meekly responded to the customer on the other line..."Have you tried turning it off and then on again?"

I imagine that Banjo-Kazooie is not the only Rare game they plan to put on the service. Any of the popular Rare games would be great additions but my personal picks are Donkey Kong 64 and Conker's Bad Fur Day. I played DK64 on Wii U VC and Conker on Rare replay and found both to be fun to play.

Whether Khushrenada has questions about bundling Paramount+ with SHOWTIME or is cancelling his Paramount+ subscription because of the latest Star Trek, there is always a Paramount customer service rep there to make him feel safe.

With the remaining two options, I am curious what NWR_insanolord thinks is the streaming service with the best customer service?

As we learned in the last round, Luigi Dude is actually a Luigi Bot, and due to some policies with HR unable to continue on in this focus group. We are now ready to begin the next round and Khushrenada is up first. The question for you is which streaming service has the best customer service?

As Luigi Dude grew older his adult responsibilities got in the way of his gaming. After working all day he didn't even have the energy to play games, so he decided to start watching other people play on twitch. The variety of personable people, retro gaming, and the community of other followers drew him in instantly

As Luigi Dude spent more and more time on Twitch, his desire for IRL human connection subsided. He no longer went to bars or night clubs to hang out, but like most single people he longed for a connection. There were a couple of other twitch users that had caught his eye and he flirted back when it seemed appropriate but he always wondered if these people were even real.

When Luigi Dude received a DM simply saying "Let's try Twitch!" from a user named Sweep it down his heart started racing. He was especially interested in them based on common interests in Nintendo games. They started having private chats and she convinced him to start streaming himself. Luigi Dude figured nobody would watch and it would be over quick so he humored her and started streaming. Sweep it down was always there first and seemed like a magnet for other users. After a few weeks of nightly raids, courtesy of Sweep, his subs were in the hundreds.

At this point the fact that these users could all be bots was buried under Luigi's ego, which had been inflated by the accolades he was showered in nightly. With his confidence the highest it had ever been, Luigi Dude proposed that he and Sweep meet IRL. The response he received "Let's try tomorrow!" left him vexed. After cursory inspection of all their previous communications he noticed some strange patterns and was starting to doubt if Sweep was even real. Desperate for answers, Luigi Dude started investigating all the subscribers on twitch and even had a PI hired to look into Sweep it down. Everything he found seemed to support his fears that they were all bots. "How could they do this to me? I'm a human being?" he thought.

In a fit of rage he smashed his monitors and streaming equipment and crashed to the floor like all his hopes and dreams. In the midst of this fracas Luigi Dude acquired some serious cuts and yet somehow there was no blood. Questioning the nature of reality is dangerous for any human, but for an artificial human it is downright catastrophic. Seeing the wires and circuits below his skin, Luigi Dude fell into an existential wormhole. As advanced as his artificial intelligence was, it could not process the most basic fact, that he was just a bot.

Andy Bernard?! I think I should have been Creed...

Good casting was tough because I wanted the story to make sense in terms of the show and the choices people made in the round. Creed is a great character though.

Before we get started with the next round let's get to know our remaining panel members:

Khushrenada has hosted Safe Words a whopping 12 times! Because of this he has not had that many chances to win as a player. Of the seven games he has played, this is only his second time making it to the final four. His best game was Safe Words 11 where he made it to second place, only to loose to nickmitch. With no nickmitch, perhaps this is Khush's time to shine.

NWR_Insanolord is our returning champion having won Safe Words 18. In addition he has made it to the final four seven times, ending up in second place four of those. Will the reign of insanity continue or is this another 2 to add the pile?

Mop it up has hosted Safe Words twice and came in first place with Safe Words 8. She has also made it to the final four six times. Will this be a second victory for Mop?

This is only Luigi Dude's third game and his first time in the final four, but if the final four rounds are anything like the earlier ones, watch out because Luigi Dude has already taken out 3 other participants.

It is now time to begin our final four questions for the panel. First up, I would like to know what Luigi Dude thinks about this. Which streaming service has the best audio/video quality?

The Office NWR edition

Starring:
  • Bungle4 as Michael Scott
  • Luigi Dude as Jim Halpert
  • Khushrenada as Andy Bernard
  • NWR_Insanolord as Dwight Shrute
  • Mop it up as Pam Beasley
and guest starring James Garner as "Bob the Cable Guy"

Every year Michael gets a few thousand dollars from corporate to improve company morale. I suggested we get some new chairs since these are really uncomfortable but he insisted that the TV was the better idea. The truth is he just really got into that show Entourage. I don’t think he knows that it won’t even have HBO Max. Also, why is Jim always looking at me when I am eating an orange?

Michael says that putting a TV in the break room will increase productivity which just demonstrates how brilliant of a manager he is. I figure the TV will be there 2 weeks before Jan finds out and has it removed. But that is plenty of time to have some fun. I rigged the TV to give an electric shock if someone starts up the Peacock app. Then I told Andy that there is a Cornell Acapella competition on Peacock and I told Dwight that Battlestar Galactica is on there. That last part is actually true by the way.
Pam? Yeah, have you seen the way she eats an orange? It is so cute…don’t tell her I said that.

Big tuna thinks he can trick the Nard dog but I think we all know the Cornell Acapella playoffs don’t start for two more weeks. No, but I am planning to use the new TV. Back at Stamford I was quite the COD player. Ever since I routinely watch players on Twitch to try and beer myself some new techniques. Once I show Angela that I am better than Dwight at first person shooters, she is bound to go out with me.

I was an electrician for 17 years, but had to stop because my heart just can’t take the mild electric shocks you get in that line of work. I am now a cable service technician for the greater Scranton area. I mostly uninstall cable these days. When I asked Mr. Scott what he wanted, he just kept giggling and saying “Skinemax”. Is he really the manager? Oh well, in 4 more days I will retire and none of this will matter.

Michael is way too coddling with the staff. If it were up to me none of these people would even be allowed to watch TV at home. Jim did tell me about Battlestar Galactica, like I would actually watch that through streaming when I have the whole series on Blu-ray. No, the only streaming service I use is Apple TV and that is because it came free with my iPhone. I have been watching the Great Bear Stakeout and laughing at how little everyone knows.

Dunder Mifflin is like a family, and the cable guy was like our adopted child that died while trying to fix the TV…which was his only job. I mean kids shouldn’t be doing such dangerous work. But I think that death is a part of life…maybe the most important part, and that is why we really gave the cable guy life today. I think the real lesson to learn here is that you need to watch where you stick your fingers…that’s what she said.

The rise and fall of Youtuber ShyGuy

A staple of NWR for years, ShyGuy launched a YouTube account when forum activity was in its heyday. Since everyone loves a shy guy, there was a groundswell of support for his self-effacing vlogs. Unfortunately, the pressure for increasing views, likes, and subs that all content creators face led to a series of videos that dragged ShyGuy’s magnanimous persona down to the dredges of troll culture. The first misstep occurred when ShyGuy staged a set of hilarious but cruel pranks on his buddy Khushrenada.
Folks here know that Khush’s dedication to the forums is solid, but not something you would win an award for. Khush on the other hand was willing to believe such recognition was deserved when the camera crews arrived at his home with an over sized check for his ersatz “Best Poster” award.

The joke seemed to go over so well, ShyGuy continued to do the same thing year after year. Since Khushrenada never visited YouTube he didn’t ever catch on that it was a prank, leading to cries of cruelty from Khush sympathizers, but a ratings bump from the more plentiful internet haters.
ShyGuy’s next peccadillo turned his sights toward fellow mod NWR_insanolord. In a series of mock exposes, ShyGuy laid out significant accusations of abuse of power. The improprieties included tampering with polls, tampering with user scores, and even creating dupe accounts.
Insanolord is a terrible moderator.
Such serious aspersions were not taken lightly by the administration and the ensuing debacle left insanolord’s reputation scarred, but ShyGuy’s ratings barreled on to the big leagues. With a fanbase that now grew to the larger Nintendo community, ShyGuy appealed to rabid loyalists by promulgating the gaslighting of anyone found to be using secondary consoles. Singled out by chance, Mop it up was suddenly bombarded with hate mail and s*** posting for her occasional use of a Microsoft console (to protect Mop’s privacy we will not mention the specific console here).

Despite most gamers being agnostic in their brand loyalty, the fervor of internet cruelty dominated the discourse surrounding the issue. As Mop it up recluded from online communities, ShyGuy’s subscribers rallied in numbers. With so many bridges burned in the NWR community, ShyGuy took aim at Hollywood, hoping to strike it big with his next video.

In 2014, legendary actor James Garner suffered a heart attack in his Los Angeles home. Hoping to capitalize on this tragedy, team ShyGuy snuck into Garner’s home and filmed the recently deceased actor. The backlash from Garner’s friends was swift with Sally Field quoted as saying “My heart just broke. There are few people on this planet I have adored as much as Jimmy Garner. I cherish every moment I spent with him and relive them over and over in my head. He was a diamond and ShyGuy is a lump of coal."  Somehow this boondoggle was still not capable of bringing down an internet sensation, but as they say “the shyer the guy, the harder they fall”. ShyGuy now had a sub count in the millions and the accompanying sponsorship made him feel invincible. This false sense of security must have compelled him to make his final video. Going back to his pranking roots, ShyGuy upped the ante to stage a “truth bombing”. Leading up to the incident, hype content advertised a monumental leak was forthcoming. While the actual video has since been removed, the big reveal is now well known, though its veracity is still debated.

In the video, ShyGuy posited that Nintendo’s lovable character Luigi was actually just Mario in a green suit. While the dubious claim would merely create chaos on nintendo forums, the ceremonial explosion of a Luigi effigy that accompanied it led to ShyGuys criminal persecution and subsequent banning of his YouTube account. Within a day, ShyGuy went from millions of followers to a single cell mate.

Fortunately, his incarceration allows for limited internet use, unfortunately the only allowed site is nintendoworldreport.com. We find it best to limit YouTube use for the remainder of this panel. Other panelists can look forward to season 7 coming this spring...

Very little is known about Chūmon's past, even by himself. Chūmon never even met his own parents, which might have been what contributed to his mysterious nature. Whatever the causes he was known for strong business acumen and despising organized crime. His previous job at Netflix had led to some serious scandals so he fled to Japan to escape the ensuing opprobrium. There he quickly landed a job at Crunchyroll and was instrumental in the rise of anime in the west.

It was at Crunchyroll that Chūmon met Sakura and despite her obvious flirtations, Chūmon remained oblivious. She tried to explain to Chūmon that the Yakuza had always played a part in the business and would not allow outsiders to intervene with the existing agreements in place. Whether Chūmon was oblivious to this or just obstinate from his disdain for the mafia was unclear, but Sakura's portentous warnings became all too real.
Rui was second in command at the Yakuza for quite some time. Many suspected he could be in charge but remained a number 2 so he could "take out" anyone getting in there way, as if he enjoyed doling out punishment. Rui's bloodlust was always in sharp contrast with his penchant for a clean suit, almost always a green one. You might even say Rui was a gangsta and call him Rui-G, but of course that might be a little too obvious.

The fateful confrontation of Rui and Chūmon began in the typical mobster threatens legitimate businessman fashion. It is hard to say who cast the first attack, but by the time Sakura entered the two were already at each other's throats. Chūmon tore off his shirt and launched a powerful jump kick as he yelled "super...ninja...lion...KICK!". As Sakura fawned over Chūmon's perfect abs, Rui countered with his standard magical fire attack, screaming "fire...flower...power...Rui-G TIME!". While Chūmon was being bombarded with fireballs, Sakura added insult to injury, slapping him for not seeing how obvious it was to just duck the fire attack.
Chūmon eventually found a break in the onslaught to power up his own magic attack, which for some reason he felt compelled to be accompanied with the following exposition "I will now use my secret dark past magical powers to create a wormhole to bend time and space and reverse the gravitational flow of your own fire back on you". And surprisingly, he did. With the fireballs now hitting Rui he started to feel quite small (figuratively of course, it's not like someone would shrink in size when getting attacked). Feeling the need to be invincible, Rui shouted "okey...dokey...super..STAR" and suddenly his green suit faded through the whole rainbow sequence. As he smoothed out his mustache with his hand and smirked, he charged straight for Chūmon. Chūmon somehow matched Rui's invicibility and invoked super speed. Rui matched Chūmon's super speed and started vacuuming up ghosts to unleash on Chūmon. Chūmon responded to the ghosts by summoning a hoard of zombies. Back and forth the battle raged for what seemed like forever.

Just before everyone hearing the story lost interest and skipped to the end Chūmon had a very emotional flashback...
Chūmon was just a child and he was at the beach....building a sandcastle...but who were these people with him...it was Chūmon's parents...but they were not relaxing like the other families...they were in a serious conversation with...Yakuza!...Chūmon's parents were Yakuza...was this why he could not remember them...was this why he hated the Yakuza so much
This new knowledge made it all to clear to Chūmon what needed to be done. If he was going to win this battle, he would need to become the very thing he despised, he would need to become as ruthless as the Yakuza. Very quickly Chūmon had Rui down with a knife to his throat and it seemed like it was all over. But suddenly Rui remembered his secret forgotten power...to jump weird and flutter his legs. As he sprang up he yelled "RUI-G...NUMBER...ONE!!!" his legs akimbo, knocking Chūmon's knife back into his own head. Sakura cried for a few minutes, but then fell in love with Rui as they rode off into the Tokyo sunset.

Stay tuned for Season 6...

It goes without saying that nickmitch had always considered himself a TV Man. Growing up, he was a master of the basic cable schedule, always knowing the best program on any time of day.
With the advent of streaming services nickmitch tried to adapt and adjust but it never really felt right. Netflix and other streaming services spoiled these entitled millennials and zoomers, letting them watch shows whenever they want, he thought. Nickmitch missed the routine and ceremony of cable with it's reliable cadence of commercial breaks. The closest thing Nickmitch could find to solace was through Hulu + Live TV. Of course when friends and family came to visit they still deferred to the on-demand selection and binging that has grown so popular. Secretly nickmitch had some dude working within Hulu to slowly chip away at the various corporate partners in hopes that a single owner would wrangle control over the viewership. In his personal life things got much darker as nickmitch initiated draconian house rules for all TV watching, whereby shows could only be seen on the same day and time as they would normally be broadcast. Failure to abide by such regulations resulted in guests wearing plain outfits of a single color as punishment.
Eye witness reports leaked photos of people forced to wear red dresses after watching Monday night football on a Tuesday morning. Nickmitch's reign of terror started to come apart when the dude that nickmitch hired ended up succeeding in the consolidation tactics at Hulu corporate resulting in a mass exodus of all the popular shows that made guests willing to put up with nickmitches fashionist tendencies.
In the end nickmitch was all alone suffering from rules so strict even he could not avoid breaking them. By the time we heard about this, the ascetic lifestyle had taken its toll with nickmitch having gouged out his own eyes to keep himself pure from what he referred to as the "tainted detritus" of modern TV. We have been notified by nickmitch that he can no longer take part in this panel, but with the use of screen reading technology he plans to stay active in the NWR forums. Stay tuned for season five....
