Can't play an Xbox without Halo, it's like the Mario of the console.

Wow nice recommendation there, I would have NEVER known to get Halo thanks for the super informative suggestion you are the smartest gamer alive.  ::)

Here is a tip, if you order McDonald's food get the french fries their top notch.

It doesn't count as beating it but I crashed Minecraft! I created a pillar that goes way up into the sky made out of stone and then started a lava fall over it then I created a water fall to put out the fire and that only turned into that ugly **** that lava turns into when you pour water on it, and then I had a huge water fall so I tried to pour lava over the water to kill it off, in an endless cycle because the physics are weird in that game and I crashed my save. I had to disable autosave and go in and delete the entire pillar of destruction to restore that map.

Then I created a water world, where I flooded the entire world one water bucket spill at a time, and crashed the game again now I can't get back into that save. Apparently if you have too many water squares in a map it will crash. Sorry Kevin Costner I tried.

Since the point I was making got lost in the bickering I will say it again. I do not think they should wait longer to announce it, I think it needs to be this month, but knowing them if they hold off on the announcement it is because they are paranoid someone will steal their idea, I was not saying I agree with that.

But I concede to Insanolord that hey is right in todays day and age they could reveal things closer to launch and still build hype, I just think they would be smarter to say something sooner than later or else they might need to delay it to summer or later and launching in summer is a gamble.

Another thing everyone keeps forgetting is they are also supposed to be launching QoL at that same time frame and have yet to mention anything about it, so before we get our hopes too high the NX isn't some lame attempt at trying to get gamers to exercise like Wii was lets keep in mind they haven't announced squat on that stuff either. Unless they changed directions entirely I am willing to bet its going to tie into NX somehow.

The only thing that really makes sense pushing the reveal closer to launch is if the idea is something that could be stolen and is so great everyone might rush out to steal it right away.

If the March date is real then there is only like six months for a competitor to steal the idea.  How could anyone steal it in that short time frame unless the idea is REALLY minor and easy to copy?  But if that's the case the idea ain't going to be worth a damn anyway.  If the idea is going to be stolen then the copycats are going to start the day it's revealed so Nintendo buys another couple months, maybe?  If they revealed it a year before or something like that then I can see it but it's far too late for someone to beat Nintendo to the market.  The Wii came out in 2006 and Move and Kinect didn't follow until 2010.  That was plenty of time for Nintendo to reap the benefits of the idea.  25 years ago you could crank out a game in months so a copycat product was really feasible.  These days games take YEARS to make.  A couple extra months between the reveal and launch is nothing.  No serious competitor should be able to beat Nintendo to the market or realistically even get a copycat product out before the end of 2017.

Sure they could, suppose the idea is something that relies on existing tech that the other two have access to through their technology divisions. I am not saying they could do a complete copy cat product, but it didn't take them long to implement motion controls despite all sucking at it. What I mean is what if they have something that say Apple could steal? Apple might not like Nintendo making a play to dethrown them from the mobile scene knowing that Nintendo used to be kings of that market. We still don't know what it is but I am willing to bet you that Apple more than has the funds and resources to get a new iPhone or something else that does the same thing by the end of the year. They don't even need to have a full product ready by Christmas, they just need enough cobbled together by E3 to show they are working on it to start building hype and deflating the NX hype.

And if its really a hybrid Sony and Apple are both in a position to modify existing products very easily to get something of that effect out, hell Apple already is doing that now with their unified OS anyways. If they decided that say the breakway controller works and is a good idea they could work that into the next iPhone and Nintendo is a dead goose having to exit the console business for good if they quitely concede the living room console space which sounds like they are doing, and lose the mobile space, their finished as a game tech company.

I am not saying this is what will happen but yeah it could, your just too down on Nintendo its like nothing they do impresses you anyways.

Nintendo Gaming / Another blast from the past
« on: October 09, 2016, 09:52:39 AM »
We have done the rank the consoles to death, we have all shared our what got us into gaming memories, and we have all gone back and forth on are the Wii/N64 consoles garbage or masterpieces endlessly. So I propose we try something different.

Everyone post one sentence saying one good thing you like about each Nintendo console, it can be anything you want, ie I liked the controller, the variety of colors, the software, this feature or that feature, the fact it was rare and elitist to own one, etc. The trick is you cannot mention the games. No games at all not even pack in or launch titles or even the library was varied just one thing you liked about each console, including the handhelds but not the side stuff like Game & Watch unless you want to or accessories like e-reader.

I will start of course.

NES- I liked the design of the console, it kind of fit in with the late 80's computers.
Game Boy- I like the multitude of accessories that enhance the experience
SNES- I really like the eject button.
Virtual Boy- I like the funky controllers
Game Boy Color- I like that it's carts are shaped differently.
N64- I liked that it supported 4 controllers default.
GBA- I liked that it connected with the e-reader and Game Cube
Game Cube- I liked the color scheme, purple is one of my favorite colors.
DS- I liked that it had a touch screen for games.
Wii- I liked that the use of channels, it was very neat and totally retro 80's style.
3DS- I liked that it came in different shapes and sizes and colors; most variety in Nintendo console to date I believe.
Wii U- I liked the OffTV play.
NX- I like the mystery surrounding it

That is all I have, please feel free to make your own list with one sentence saying what you liked about it.

Doesn't all discussion of the "DC Cinematic universe" rightfully belong in the fun house? Or are there people honestly trying to take it seriously at this point?

Not that I didn't enjoy Batman Vs. Superman (just because DC is a joke and can't spell doesn't mean I have to indulge their delusion) wait, me correcting someone's spelling, reality TV star running for President, Ben Affleck as Batman, women pretending to be Ghostbusters, it must truly be the end of the world.

They let me run loose with no consequences and now Khush is a mod, you guys still think *I* am the crazy one. And now you have attracted another soccer fan to this abyss. I guess that's better than bronies taking over the place, or my failed attempt at starting a Lindsay Lohan fan club, turns out I was the only one that existed.

Legit not sarcastic at all Mafia suggestion, do a Community (the TV show) Paintball one, if you haven't done that already. Or how about a ABC's Dinosaurs one, you know that show with the baby hitting not the mamma on the head with the frying pan. That is my fun house contribution for the day, see you all in the not-too-distant future.

I took it in to the store I bought it, they cleaned the system and tested all of the games I bought, it is now working just fine. I figured out the date and time issues is because the console doesn't have an internal battery so whenever turn off the power switch it loses that data. I guess since there are not games that work like Animal Crossing that rely on that, that I am aware of, I really don't care.

General Gaming / Re: What is your most recent gaming purchase?
« on: October 07, 2016, 11:36:13 PM »
I just picked up an original Xbox console and 22 games plus a ton of PS2 and Wii stuff. I haven't got anywhere near the time to sort through them all and make a list but mostly big name stuff on Xbox, Halo, Halo 2, Doom 3, Mech Assault, Blinx, Fable, Morrowind, all the Splinter Cell games, stuff like that.

PS2 I grabbed a ton of classic arcade collections, also a few PS1 retro arcade remakes like the Asteroids, Missile Command, Frogger, etc, games, and Wii, I listed the Wii games in another thread. PS4 I grabbed a Tales game Zestiria or something like that, and that J-allstars fighting game, they were cheap.

I also bought a GBA a couple months ago and have gone all in collecting original GB and game boy color games, I am already up to just over 20. Mostly crap right now, Tetris, Pac-Man, Pac-Man collection, Tetris DX, the Donkey Kong Land, all of the Game & Watch games, stuff like that nothing too special, ordered the Super Mario Land games waiting on those to arrive, and I spend $100 each on Wii U virtual console, Wii virtual console and PS3 store this last month.

My boss gave me a raise and the credit card companies have been giving me credit lately so I have been spending a lot more than usual.

Right now I am putting my focus on original Xbox, PS2, Wii and pre-GBA Game Boy stuff.

That only makes sense if we're talking about exclusive titles from third parties, and I don't expect much in the way of those at launch. If it's ports they don't need as long to specifically market them for NX.

PS VR is about to be all the gaming rage, if Nintendo doesn't want to end up in the situation where people forget they even have something in the works because of the media blitz the PS VR is sure to receive, which is already starting, then they do too need to get something out sooner rather than later. The benefit is people are anxious now, they are talking about it now, they are hyped or trying to get hyped now, if Nintendo waits too long these people might just spend their money on other stuff now and put off NX or lose interest in it. Surely they do not think the Wii U will magically sell gangbusters this Christmas they are probably hoping to wipe out existing inventory and quietly move on.

The only thing that really makes sense pushing the reveal closer to launch is if the idea is something that could be stolen and is so great everyone might rush out to steal it right away. They learned that lesson with Wii but if they are hoping for or expecting Wii success they had better have something truly amazing. I think the hybrid console is going to get them back to SNES levels of support and sales consistently but they need to get games out and they need to start the hype train before people move on and lose interest. That just makes it that much harder to regain trust and rebuild hype going forward. Once a console loses steam its really hard to get it back. They are already fighting an uphill battle, with boulders chained to their ankles, so they need to be smart about it. Hopefully they reveal something before everyone commits their console money this holiday season.

General Gaming / Importing consoles?
« on: October 07, 2016, 11:13:36 PM »
If there is already a thread for this I am sorry.
I am starting to considering getting into importing game consoles. Partly because I am now getting back into collecting and I am hearing that some games are cheaper/better in other regions so I want to be able to get the best.
My fear is that I will accidentally blow something up so I am hoping someone with real experience can walk me through this.
I want to know if I buy a console from Japan will it work with my US TV or do I also need to look for some sort of converter? I understand they are both NTSC/ATSC but I do know Japan had some form of HD before we did and I am just now finding the right information on Google.

TV or not, my second issue is power, I am under the impression that Japan uses a different voltage system than the US so I want to make sure I know exactly what I will need, for instance some websites claim I just need the US A/C for that console, so like a power cord from a US N64 supposedly would work with a Japanese console, is that true? If so is it true across the board? Or do I need special converters here also? If so is there a special like power strip that I can get or do I need to buy multiple converters?
Next up, controllers. I am not sure why there would be any reason one controller wouldn't work but just to be on the safe side, are the consoles from Japan compatible with US controllers or would I also need to look into buying controllers for my consoles?

I am trying to spend as little money as possible but I want to do things right without cutting any corners.
I guess my last question is, if I buy a Japanese console, set it up to work with my TV and power, get the controllers are there any other things I need to know about, like memory cards or expansion packs?
Google has not been helpful, no matter what search terms I try the only info that comes up is on Famicom, Super Famicom and MEga Drive, none of which are the consoles I am interested in currently.
I am not exactly looking for anything specific just in general, but I might have specific questions later.
I have been told that Japanese versions of Game Boy games should work in my US GBA console so if that is the case then all I need to do next is figure out where to buy Japanese games.

I am interested in both discovering Japanese exclusives that don't require too much knowledge of the language, I took a semester of it in college but that was so long ago most of its long forgotten by now. I think I can make out a couple of the Hiragana but the Kanji and Katakana have left my brain long ago.
If I buy a Japanese console, is there any way to change language settings to English? I know there are a lot of people in Japan that read English and a lot of games are nearly universal anyways like Mario, Sonic, games I am familiar with I am sure I can find my way around, but since I am mostly after games I am not familiar with, true imports or just seeking cheaper versions of games if that is the best route.

I have the same questions for PAL stuff but I already know I need adapters there, just not sure what consoles have exclusive games in PAL regions I would care about, not that into soccer or F1. Okay not meaning to generalize I just am not that familiar with PAL exclusive games, but I really don't care for sports games its nothing against soccer. Right now I guess I am more interested in importing consoles and games from Japan and maybe PAL games and consoles, or PAL versions of Game Boy games, if they are cheaper/better than the US versions.

I do have Morrowwind but that isn't a good substitute for Fable. The guy at the game store said I could exchange the console for a different one but I am afraid if it is a common problem what happens if I exchange it to fix those two games but then other games that were working on it stop working. Or worse yet I lose my save data on the games I have been playing. Now I have to check if there is a way to transfer save data. I been getting pretty far in MechAssault and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance.

Plus i put a couple hours into Halo already. I am trying to figure out what I hated about this thing when it was new I wish I had bought one before now. Still not sold on the 360 but I am getting there.

216
I think they could announce it as late as November and still release in March but any later than that and it has to be delayed. The problem with announcing too early can also back fire so six months is really the sweet spot and we're there now.

General Gaming / Xbox original
« on: October 07, 2016, 10:51:45 AM »
I finally broke down and picked up an original Xbox. I grabbed a few games, well a ton of games really.
I am curious if anyone who is familiar with the system could answer some questions.

Is it normal for the console to be picky about reading discs? I tested several games but two I have do not work on it period. Fable and Ninja Gaiden Black, they both worked and were tested fine at the game store, I took them back when they didn't work and the discs look amazing no smudges or scratches.

Also does it have to remain plugged in at all times to keep the clock and date settings? I have everything plugged into a power strip that I turn to the off setting when I leave the house or go to bed, I am starting to wonder if that is the reason why the console loses the date and time settings or if there is something else wrong with it.

Does it make a difference? For power bill reasons I am not moving it to a different strip so unless there are games that require, or use the feature meaningfully I should be fine just selecting the default its kind of like a trip back in time so not a major issue.

Anyone who has experience with it wants to share any cool tips or secrets or talk about games please feel free to reply. Thanks.

Reply instead of another edit for ease of reading.

Here are the suggestions so far.
A Boy and his Blob- Sorry nope, I am well aware of this game tried it didn't care for it.

Batman The Brave and the Bold-
I might be curious, is this an exclusive, what type of gameplay is it? Is it based on a cartoon, a comic, or something else?

Baroque (only if you are a bit masochistic and like old and ugly rogue-likes; I do)
I am curious, tell me more.

Final Fantasy Chocobo's Dungeon
Crystal Chronicles is on my to-get list, I already have the Wii Ware My Life as a King, I am avoiding Wii Ware games altogether from now on. So my question is what type of game is this?

Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn
I had the Game Cube game so this is on my to get list already, glad it still gets some good love.

Geometry Wars Galaxies  (classic controller is better than pointer controls in my opinion)
Pass, not interested in this sorry.

Klonoa
This one I am curious, I have heard the name before but not sure what it is. Might check it out thanks.
Muramasa The Demon Blade
What type of game is this, from the name it sounds like a dungeon crawler or a hack n slash.

King of Fighters Collection

Already top of my list, but I am not sure I am getting it for Wii, I am pretty sure its not exclusive and fighting games on Wii are not good in my experience.

Punch-Out!!  (motion controls optional, although I think they actually improve the game)
I already have this one on Wii U so good suggestion.

Samurai Shodown Anthology
Another one that is top of my to get list but not sure Id get it for Wii.

Shiren the Wanderer
Tell me more this sounds intriguing.

Tatsunoko vs Capcom
If exclusive then sure, if its on PS3 or PS2 then I would need a real incentive to get it on Wii.

Xenoblade Chronicles
Got this day one on Wii U digital, for obvious reasons but its still a good game.

Dead Space Extraction
This one is on my list of maybes

Ghost Squad
Sounds interesting, is it a shooter or an action game?

House of the Dead (2 & 3 Return, and Overkill)
They have this for $8 at my local game shop, I will be getting it the very next time I am in town.

Resident Evil (Umbrella Collection, and Darkside Chronicles)

Already got this one early on.

Fortune Street
I saw a Youtube video of this, one of the reasons I decided to give Wii a second chance. Also I am into party games but not the really obvious crap. I might check out some more they could be fun.

Kirby Return to Dreamland
Yes, on my list but too much money for what it is. Will keep looking for a second hand copy at a yard sale or something where they don't want to price gauge.

Excitebots
I have heard this was good so I might check it out.

Rayman Origins
I love platformers, and I enjoy the Rayman and Sonic games so those are all on my list.

Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World
I already have the vastly superior PS3 version so thanks for the suggestion though.

Pandora's Tower
I have heard this was good, would like to know more about it so its on the list.

Thanks guys. I know I come off as rude sometimes but I don't mean to be. Not always.

To all those peps who have friends with depression the best thing you can do is well smile, be there for them and be their councillor!

Actually as someone who has dealt with depression and anxiety, that is the worst thing you can do. It patronizes them and makes them feel like you don't really care. Even if you are sincere just, smiling at someone and reminding them of how unhappy they are doesn't really help.

Also unless you are a fully trained, properly licensed counselor you should not even try to counsel someone with depression, you might do more harm than good. Be a good friend, listen to what they have to say, listen don't try to fix, and don't push them away when they come to you in need, that is better advice. Your heart was in the right place, I think, but your advice was not that sound, just FYI in case you actually do have friends with depression.

Well the cat is out of the bag. I been on this site since 2004, I started out as a lurker for a very long time before signing up. I used to write into the Planet GameCube mailbag all the time. I think they answered some of my letters I can't remember though specifically. I signed up sometime in 2005 to post to the forums. It was to talk about Super Paper Mario and Twilight Princess, before they were pushed to the Wii.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Predict When Nintendo Will Unveil the NX!
« on: October 07, 2016, 09:50:33 AM »
It's not much, it could be nothing  but I have a source on the somewhat inside that gave a hint. I have a brother in law that works for a very big video game company, one I can't say because anonymity but they don't normally make games for Nintendo and they have seen NX and all he said was, it is something they are considering and thats all I have. Not much but its not nothing. Their company has never made a game for a Nintendo console and they are excited for this system, he said excited for it so that gives me pause for concern but a twinge of small hope.

No this is not a joke post but it's like I said not much. He never gives hard anything but said they are excited for it, didn't confirm they are making a game but his company scoffed at the Wii U so that says something. He has worked on some very big budget games so I sort of trust his info but like I said its not a tip its just a passing tease really which is still nothing useful not more than what we already know. But the company is not Ubisoft or EA so its one that if they do make something for NX that would be something.

Damn it I wish I had more but thats all a lot of nothing really.

As for the timeline, he gave nothing, he said they were under very strict NDA so that is all I have to go on there might be a game coming to it that would be a big deal. Not on its own per se but a sign the times might be changing. That's the extent of my inside connections. I have a friend that does coding for Windows but he is so far removed from anything useful I never ask him for info.

My brother in law has given good info on Playstation before his company loves to suck on the Sony juice but thats not much either. Actually their more of a PC company so well anyways. If you wanted inside info on Texas politics I am friends with one of the senators but thats not much. Not even friends colleagues really.

But I still think the reveal is going to be a total blind side. As for what Nintendo is waiting on who knows maybe they all finally went senile and forgot there was even a new console coming.

Already reported thanks perm.

I'm not expecting any kind of backwards compatibility since it seems Nintendo is moving away from the Wii / U hardware and name, which would be a good idea. Besides, the PS4 and XBONE didn't have backwards compatibility (though they may have had some added in, I forget), and nobody seemed to care. Then again, I'm probably forgetting the double standards people tend to hold to Nintendo...

I am personally was never asking for backwards compatability of anything Wii or Wii U related, nobody in their right mind should expect that. I want Virtual Console b/c or at least to keep the games I already purchased, some twice. I was okay with it on Wii U because the logistics and the way things worked out but damn it I have $600 invested in Wii virtual Console that of those games are lost, as in they aren't even the ones ported to Wii U yet, I will be pissed. Not to the point I won't get an NX, I am not sold on it yet anyways, but I might out of spite because **** it, I don't know I just feel like at the very least they need to find a way to include Wii and Wii U virtual console games no matter how they do it. Even if it means launching a Wii app just for virtual console and everything else is not useful fine I would settle for that and Nintendo could pull that off. If its rights issues they need to get that sorted out five years ago.

224
I should have started with the Wii games I already have.

Super Paper Mario
Wii Play
Conduit
Galaxies 1 & 2
Brawl
Punch Out
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Twilight Princess
Xenoblade Chronicles
Umbrella Chronicles

I am open to Wii games that are also on PS2 if the Wii versions is obviously better and supports Classic Controller Pro only, not classic, not Game Cube, otherwise I'll stick to the PS2 versions in most instances or get PS3 Hd remakes if they have em.

225
Alright as most of you know I really hated the motion controls. But I did like some other concepts of the Wii, especially the pointer as a replacement for light gun. That being said I have recently purchased a used Wii, I got a pair of them for $5 at a flea market so one is a Gamecube/modded virtual console, the other I will be using as a regular Wii, so I decided since I am keeping at least 1 around plus my Wii U because I am not trusting Nintendo on the virtual console, anyways I decided to give the Wii library a second chance.

So I am asking all my friends here, and those that aren't friends but more knowledgable of the library, what are some good titles that do not force you to use motion controls that you would recommend to me to buy?

To make this easier, I am not into animal crossing, pokemon, or any of the "cutesy" stuff aside from Kirby.
Also no sports, cooking or anything that requires the balance board.

Please feel free to make suggestions of lesser known games, hidden gems and games that are not the obvious stuff like Mario and Zelda.

Also I own a PS2 so unless a game on Wii does something really magical, please no ports I will be getting those on PS2. I know this sounds hard but I am convinced as popular as the machine was there has to be something I am missing that I could enjoy. Stay cool everyone hope to get lost of fun suggestions.

Also forget what I said about the cutesy stuff just no Pokemon or Animal Crossing, feel free to make any suggestions you want I will sort them out myself. Thanks all.
