Wonder Boys is what I was going for.

Hollwoodland. Which could also work as "Superman has incest"

In what movie is Batman trying to catch Batman?

Other than the new one?

I can think of movie in which Spider Man fucks Iron Man, after being introduced by Hank Pym.

Nice! I spent some time over the weekend getting my transfers organized.

I think there is a little irony in using "traditionally" in that context, but I get it, and see why it works. Personally, I'd prefer using something like "Triple Crown" for a domestic* triple, and reserve treble for its international usage. You could even call the quattro the "Grand Slam".

*Really cross-border, but a domestic league equivalent

131
Until you made your post about the treble, I never thought about the percularity of the CONCACF CL being played across two MLS seasons.

Does anyone have a league cup other than the premier league? I know United is the only BPL team to win the treble, and they didn't win the EFL cup that year. Might as well go for the first quattro in world football with the Supporters Shield.

132
I'd like to see CONCACAF moved later for competitive reasons, but I also wonder if it would help with exposure too. With DVR and streaming, it's competiting with UEFA. I'd likely watch it more.

133
Christian Pulisic signed a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund through 2020. As a Liverpool fan it would have been neat to see him go there, but he's at a big club and getting a lot of playing time so I don't blame him for staying in a good situation.

I had written something in my post above about that, but you beat me to it before I posted so I took it out. I think this is good news for his development.

134
I read over the weekend that the European Club Association's appearance agreement with FIFA ends in 2022, which coincides with the world cup in Qatar. Unless it is moved, it will almost certainly have to be played in the northern hemisphere winter, blowing a huge hole in the domestic and continental club competitions. It is also currently the last one scheduled to feature 32 teams. Obviously, ECA members pay a substantial amount of the development costs for many of the best players in the world, and almost all of their wages. The world cup expansion is just the latest shots fired.

Division looks stacked again.

There will be plenty of offense in the 2018 free agent class.

What do you think about Bautista re-signing Shaymin?

140
Yeah, my experience is different. Very few kids I know have newly purchased smart phones/tablets unless their parents are upper-middle class or richer. The other kids tend to get whatever device the parent upgrades from, usually on the same ecosystem as their parents devices. I just think having Netflix is another inducement, which seems even more necessary because of the relatively high price, but I do get your point about the limited stock/initial purchasers.

141
I think the issue with Netflix is that it could make the Switch purchase more attractive for a parent vis-a-vis a more functional (but more expensive) tablet. As an adult, I specifically want different devices for gaming and audio/visual entertainment, but I would only want to buy my (hypothetical) child one device for both playing games and streaming video.

142
I don't think consumers should be criticized for being too negative. The rational response to "aggressive pricing" is to publicly trash a product as loudly as frequently as possible regardless of how much you honestly like it. Nintendo knows they are creating a negative environment and they literally don't care. This is a company that has nickel-and-dining written into its DNA. Unfortunately, constant negativity isn't good for forum reading or fandom in general, so I want to focus on the stuff I like, but ultimately Nintendo is to blame for consumer attitudes.

This is the first I've heard of the movie, and apparently it's currently in the theater.

144
As long there as it feels like a coherent natural environment, and it has sufficient (but avoidable) random fauna and enemies, I'd love a substantial wilderness surrounding the settlements and ruins. I'm even more hopeful about the aesthetic direction.

I definitely see the possibility for VR. It was the first thing that came to my mind when they were showing off 1-2-Switch. In fact, I was literally thinking to myself that it would be ironic if third-party uses of Nintendo's proprietary hardware (instead of the often prophesized software) could end up becoming a lucrative part of their business.

If its popularity inscreases, Nintendo is in a key position to provide probably the lowest entry into VR with their next Switch console.  Time will tell though as the competition in VR begins to release their revised models in the years to come.  Things could die down and go the way of 3d tvs or things can really pick up and usher in a new genre/aspect of gaming.

I see gaming ultimately as a relatively small portion of the VR market, so I wonder how that possibility fits into the analysis. In the short term, it seems the big money will be in medicine and military applications, and in the long run, it seems like VR ends up as ubiquitous as the personal computer. Nintendo could be facing new competition that operate on vastly different scales.

148
I'm only interested in single playe games. Zelda, Pokémon, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 are what I picked and those three alone will justify the purchase. I'll likely get Odyssey eventually, but it's not a priority. I'm sure I'll add more as the list grows.

TalkBack / Re: The Nintendo Switch: A Mixed Bag
« on: January 15, 2017, 06:39:14 AM »
Good article, thank you. I was especially interested in the comments on the controllers.

It's actually really similar to the 3DS which was overpriced and had a weak initial lineup.  But that had the benefit that Nintendo has less competition in the handheld market so there was the opportunity to make up for The Switch is launching in direct competition with the very popular PS4 which is cheaper and already has tons of games and an established online community to play with.  Nintendo is also emphasizing the Switch primarily as a console which invites the PS4 comparisons more than it would if they marketed things more as a hybrid.  But the battery life is not so hot and if the Switch is seen more as a handheld the price will be considered ridiculously high.

This is why I reacted so negatively as a consumer. Nintendo is in direct competition with Sony/Microsoft and the 3DS. The hardware is great and they unveiled some exciting games, but it's priced very uncompetitively.

Relative to other consoles: the battery life doesn't seem long enough to compensate for the tiny controllers, so you need the pro controller for it to be a true hybrid. But at that point you are paying a whole lot more than for the competition and the signs aren't promising that the Switch's software library will be supported by western developers going forward. The exclusive games do look great but I can still get Nintendo experiences on my 3DS.

Relative to the 3DS: without the pro controller, it's primarily a handheld. It does seem to offer far more robust experiences, but the best games are substantially more expensive, and its battery life my not support those games as viable portable titles. It seems like the best option is to wait until there is a price drop or its next iteration.
