I'm a prequel defender. Revenge of the sith is crazy good. Has some flaws but what movie doesn't? If you dont have someone older in your life telling you how bad they suck you can enjoy them. If they are your first star wars movies then you're good.

Most game reviewers cater to a very specific market which I don't fall into anymore. Reviews are great for those people, the 'hardcore' group and message board types, but for casual observers of games who normally get their games two and three years after they release Reviews don't do much. Very few games keep their quality over time.
I also think paid reviewers are different from 'normal' gamers just in the number of games they play. To them some game may come off as old hat and boring because another game had done it before then, but if this is someone's first dynasty warriors game they don't care.
Nothing against reviewers, it's not their fault they play fifty some brand new games a year, it just makes those reviews hard to read for someone trying to judge whether this game is worth the $20 I'm about to spend on it.
I've also seen a lot of cases where a game got previewed one way, and there's an appearance that the site reviewing it feels the need to be consistent with what their previews said either positive or negative. As for them being trustworthy they probably are, you just have to be who the review is written for.
Game reviewers also get caught up in the overall package of the game sometimes. The GTA series has always had significant gameplay problems but the concept alone made it a 10. The mischief is fun, but when you're doing an actual mission and you can't aim to save your life and the combat is about as bad as it gets i don't see where it gets mythical status. I think maybe 4 cleared up some of those problems, but by no means all of them. Fallout 3 is the same case. I haven't played it, but listening to people we're hearing a lot of problems with bugs that hurt the game.

I disagree with the Jen Tsao thing. Reading her reviews and pieces in EGM for years and on 1up recently she's a different person. She is very different from anyone else I've ever read in the industry. I honestly believe she found the fun in Wii Music, I've only played it for ten or so minutes, but I played it with my four year old goddaughter who isn't alowed to play games much yet and had a small blast. I don't know if it's a $50 blast, but for that time she was having the time of her life and I couldn't help but have fun with it because of her.

Artistically games and movies are exactly the same in that one person often gets the majority of the credit while the team goes unknown. The programmers and bug fixers might as well be best boys and gaffers. Suda 51 gets the credit for making this game. He may have spearheaded it, but how much programming did he do for it? Did he do all the art? maybe he did I honestly don't know, but he is going to get the credit regardless.

Hype is one of the reasons why I don't buy brand new games anymore. Otherwise I'd never enjoy games like otogi, call of juarez, and alien syndrome.

More importantly than hype is the celebrity. People look at some games based on who makes it and make judgements before they play it. They may not have an agenda but you see that EA makes a game and you expect a certain game. You see that this is a need for speed game and you roll your eyes before you even play it. You just assume things about a game before it comes out. Non sports fans look at sports games all the time and hate because they come out every year and don't change much.
Look at Treyarch, those guys put out a lot of great games. Call of Duty 3 is damn good. You listen to podcasts where WoW is brought up and people are skeptics from the outset. But it's treyarch and people just assume it's bad. Horrible games don't sell well. I'm not going to trust any review on call of duty world at war because the overall majority of reviewers are jaded against Treyarch.

Sorry for the comma splicing and horrid sentence structure.

Miyamoto is more George Lucas than Tom Clancy.

Artistic merit isn't always good either. I don't get where people hate on refined games. Dead space may be super generic but the game is damn good. Give me a game that is polished and works gameplay wise to it's very core over an artsy project that falls short where it counts.

True and all, I'm just so use to the experts being dead wrong I discount them completely. I enjoy listening to them. ESPN's podcasts humor me endlessly. But I just can't put any stock in them.
Did you really think Atlanta was going to be anywhere near as bad as last year though? I guess as a Carolina fan I'm always paranoid about Atlanta, but I was just sold on last year being a desperate fluke. I thought a new coach and a real quarterback gave then four or five wins by themselves.

Power rankings are all silly. Anyway, I knew Atlanta would be good this year simply because last year was a fluke. They weren't as bad as they played. They had an awful coach, no quarterback, and nothing to play for. No way were they going to be anywhere close to that bad this year.
Speaking of Carolina though. that game was painful to watch. Surprised they won that game with Jake playing that poorly. A win is a win though. Hopefully they get it together for the Lions next week.
Bills, they're becoming the Bills. Hopefully they can start to turn it around next week but it really really isn't looking good for them.

I'm done. you need to advertise everything. End of story. No advertising means no sales. Regular people don't follow games the way you think they do. Games don't hit millions in sales without advertising regardless of what you think. It's the simple truth in anything. Why do you think wal mart  has commercials? According to you they don't need commercials because everyone knows where wal mart is. That's not the case. Marketing makes the world go around. It's the only reason people know about anything.

hardcore true fans of everything in life care too much about it. But I'm not anyone to tell people how to toss their money. Have fun sitting in 20 degree weather drinking eight dollar beer and watching your team throw away games. It's entertainment. It's the equivalent of paying $60 every week to play Big Beach Sports. Go Go Romeo. Fairweather fans just have better things to do.

you need to advertise madden. People don't know when the next one is coming out. sometime in august, but no advertising means no one is heading to wal mart at midnight. That commercial was an absolute stroke of genius.
The problem with all play is market confusion. If they loaded the tubes with commercials telling people why all play was the best thing ever it would've sold. Instead they just let it out there without telling anyone. Thus, no sales.

Best fans are the dumb ones. I don't understand how fan bases are ridiculed for not putting money into something unsuccessful. You can call me fair weather but I"m not paying these ungodly fees to go to a sporting event for a team that sucks. I'm not buying their jerseys and I'm putting any money towards support the junk they put on the field. They give me a competitive team and an affordable way to support them and I'll help out.
I don't get how paying a hundred dollars plus parking/food/drinks to see a sucky team makes you a good anything, except waster of money.

Hi res graphics. Odin Sphere looks better on ps2 than Disgaea 3 does. Its a truly ugly game. and if you play it on an SDTV then you're really going to hate life.

They can, but doesn't mean they will. Guitar hero PS2 had two guitars. That's it. Now we have three competeting games. Each with their own drums guitars and microphones. There's no guarantee of anything. and the DLC won't work. It won't. There's no benefit in making it work.
I could be wrong, but I doubt it. These guys aren't our friends, they're businesses out to make money

no no no no. Madden on wii didn't exist. All Play didn't kill it. Not knowing it existed killed it. If you're not looking for madden and you go to best buy to pick up a wii game and don't know what you want you may completely miss Madden. Seriously. I've seen it happen. But if you're on tv and you see madden that has all play tacked all over it with the wii box on the commercial you'll know what's up and what to look for.
Remember, people aren't like you guys. You are a small small minority of gamers. The dreaded casuals aren't slouching around the internet following previews and first looks and reviews on random small websites like Planet gamecube. No disrespect.
And fringe fans that pick up podcasts and such don't ever hear anything positive about the wii or wii games. Other games get nothing but free press all over the gaming industry. Wii games, not so much. Not ever really. IGN tried with de blob, but that didn't go far.

also, whoever is publishing this taletale sam and max isn't marketing it either. I had no idea it was coming out soon. Way to sell your game guys. How the hell am I suppose to buy your game if I don't know it's coming out. Tell me please. I want to know. It's no secret why some games sell millions and other games don't. I promise you if you put sam and max all over tv people will buy it.  Instead you'll hear in a few months how wii isn't a good platform for two year old point and click adventure games cause it sold 30,000 copies total.

Where are these DeBlob and Samba commercials. just curious. I haven't seen any.
Wii music is first party. Nintendo supports themselves. They know how to sell their games.

They're totally closing the market off. It's going to hurt them in the long run. Acutally I think two years from now the market for plastic music games will all but dry up because of compatibility issues. The prices are going to go up if you want to keep up and they'll make it so you have to keep up in order to enjoy the full game. It may happen next year with rock band if they add on cymbals or whatever. $$$ yes.
Then the next generation of consoles will officially put in the death nail on the idea when you can't transfer the $500 worth of DLC you've acquired from your last system to your next system. Your disc will work. But you'll have to buy new instruments cause those old ones are compatible. I'm waiting for it.

The "All Play" moniker is what killed Madden 09. Madden 07 and 08 sold much better.
wrong. marketing is what killed madden 09 on wii.
Almost all sales on wii are a result of marketing. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. They don't market the game. It doesn't sell. They say all wii games aren't selling. They sometimes put less effort into the game making it not as good and then it doesn't sell and so they don't make anymore wii games. It's pretty obvious. When's the last time you saw a commercial for a third party wii game? Boom Blocks?
Marketing is the absolute key to everything in the gaming industry. Marketing first, quality second. The way people find out about wii games is by looking at store shelves. They're not pointed in one direction. That's why game sales are spread out. Wii and DS sell more games than anyone, but you don't see many of them in the top ten because they'll sell five thousand copies of two hundred different games.
The way you find out what's good on xbox360 and PS3 is by watching tv, reading magazines, reading comics, listening to the mainstream gaming podcasts, reading their sites. Why do Wii Fit and guitar hero crank out sales? They're on tv all the time. Not just commercials but GMA and the daily show and on sitcoms. You can find them in commercials for other products. Madden is all over the sports world. Watch ESPN and they talk about it all the time. They use it in their shows. That's extra commercial time that sam and max is just not going to get. and I don't see lucas arts pushing it either. and it's not going to sell.

This is as much fun as I've had with a game in quite some time.
You need to move some stuff off of your wii to make a certain amount of space. Then you can download stuff. Even with an empty card.

I haven't had any problems with my drums or guitar as of yet. I am having all kinds of fun. I also haven't noticed any framerate drops or anything. I think the drum layout for this is a trillion times better than the layout of rock band. Just having the raised cymbals makes it more fun. It's not so much about difficulty, it's more about being able to play it more naturally. In rock band the drums change their notes at times depending on what it needs to be, not that big a deal overall but I like this system much more. Also, the easy note charting on drums is awesome. Nothing is worse than easy charting that puts you to sleep. Once you get past the first group of sets you start to feel more active.

I'm positive they add bass parts to certain songs that don't have them because 95% of people playing the game won't know the difference. As long as it sounds decent the majority of people just won't care.
