TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Announced: Releasing September 20

I don't know, some games aren't designed just for handheld. Mario Odyssey isn't with it's motion controls. You wouldn't want to play anything with couch multiplayer say like Overcooked, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Smash or Snipperclips.

To me that's a big appeal of the switch, but I guess if you know for a fact you're only ever going to be interested in certain single player games, then you can save a bit of money.

I'm shocked that game 2 has never been used before.

Loved the show TYP!

I played Xenogears on PSP a couple years back. I imagine it helped that I played it portably, but I really enjoyed it. Yes the story is extremely convoluted with those random nouns that are a hallmark of Japanese writing (Lambs), but in my opinion that's part of the charm, and no game does it like Xenogears does for better or worse.

The game goes to so many places and your story objectives never stay the same for long. It's story driven and often railroads you through the areas with no way back because it wouldn't make sense in the story. Whereas your traditional RPG tends to be more about opening up the world map as you walk from town to town.

The battle system was carried by it's novelty and managed to hold my attention for the length of the game, but I feel like a hypothetical Xenogears 2 would really have needed to shake it up to keep it interesting for another 80 hours.

My main gripe would be the platforming. An RPG with a jump button isn't something you see everyday, but I remember some segments that were needlessly hard with having to hold down the run button and then time your jump properly

Played the demo and ended up really enjoying it. Going toe to toe against the enemy mechs in mission 3 was fun because it felt like they were actively hunting me down across the city, as I dodged and boosted along the streets avoiding their attacks.

The controls outside your mech feel surprising good, a neat feature that they don't really tell you about is that you can upgrade your human abilities in the hanger and these enhancements then show up on your character, like if you get the double jump ability you get these robot legs.

There seemed to be a good difficulty balance as it took me a couple tries to beat mission 4, but I finally managed to land the killing blow on foot after my mech had been destroyed.

The transparency is good to see. It'll be interesting if details about the cancelled version ever leak out.

Interestingly enough some of the lines in Layton are different depending on the region. "Our ... Lost Future" or "Our ... Unwound Future". Also Luke for whatever reason has a completely different voice actor in the US.

The Day the Music Died is an absolute classic

My student union at uni got an SNES Classic recently so I got to play Super Punch Out in front of a crowd. It's a decent spectator game, easy to understand and it's got big sprites and animation that make it easy to watch.

I only managed to get up to the 4th fighter, but maybe reading the manual is a shout because I felt like I was missing something.

And I really liked the demo too, gave me proper Professor Layton vibes. It should go on sale more often.
