Ubisoft's website is now prettier and easier to navigate.

Ubi.com: New look, same address

Ubisoft's worldwide portal undergoes changes

London - April 7, 2004 - Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game companies, today announced the launch in the UK, France, Germany and the USA of the new version of its Internet portal. The original portal was transformed visually and technically in order to better meet the needs of the gamers. The address remains the same: www.ubi.com, and the same changes will be made on the other European portals by the end of June.

Improvements include:

  • Twice as many ways for players to find their favourite title on the website (more powerful search engine and user-friendly navigation)

  • Enhanced customer usability in navigation (quicker loading time of information and more readable content)

  • Better access and visibility of online services like downloads and community activities

"All along the redesign process, we've kept in mind the people who lied at the bottom of our decision to transform the portal: the gamers", says Gilles Langourieux, Managing Director of ubi.com. "We exceeded the 4 million-mark of unique monthly visitors last year and with our renovated, more user-friendly portal, we hope that a growing number of gamers will enjoy navigating it and discover Ubisoft's elaborate line-up".

There was a general lack of stories for one.  Besides that I'm not sure.  Not many staff around tonight.

Actually, I think I'll unlock this, and get rid of all the "spam against spam" responses.

hmotaku.net has the full recipe list.  Call me a cheater.

I already gave some tips on making money, but while you're starting out, try to pick up every flower (20 15G flowers add up) and go to the ruins every day.  Also, try to make a lot of recipes so you can get the hors d'oeuvres unlocked.  Then all you have to do is select hors d'oeuvres and cut up a single fish for Sashimi worth 150G.  Later, it's a matter of raising strong crops and managing your dairy.  And be sure to haggle with Van for the higher prices like I mentioned above.

Nintendo Power hints that the shed will open later in the game.  I haven't seen it yet.  I'm curious about the other sheds by the Fireworks bros. and Romana's houses too.

heh I do clean out some of the old locks from time to time, but whenever I just delete something, it ends up returning since the original poster has no idea what happened.

Announcements / RE: Stop Stealing Content From Other Sites
    « on: April 06, 2004, 06:47:21 AM »
Cutting and Pasting content from other websites and posting it in our Forums is a BANNABLE offense. It's stealing, whether you give credit to those sites or not. Websites live and breathe on advertising revenue, and when you steal their content, they don't get the hits, so they don't get paid. I've already banned a few repeat offenders, but we will now start banning ANYONE who steals content from other sites, unless you can prove that you had permission.

And to clarify, this is NOT a new rule. The rules have always stated quite clearly that reposting copyrighted information is bannable, we will simply be enforcing this rule more strictly now.

And since some of you can't make the distinction, linking directly to images on other sites is also bandwidth theft. You're increasing their bandwidth, and giving them no ad views in exchange. Poor form.

Right now, we have linking turned on, but inline images turned off. Don't ruin it for others by linking to images, or we'll have to disable links too, and that would suck a lot. Don't do it.

The funny part is that we continually get more lax on the rules only to get more complaining.  I think the discussion is getting killed more by wanna-be moderators than anything we're doing.

Just take your sheep to the spigot outside and wash him once a day.  You'll get Golden Wool pretty easily, even if you miss a day here and there because of rain.  You'll actually need to wash all of your livestock once in a while, so get used to pushing those cows.

I only give Good Fodder to cows giving milk.  It's not worth it for any of the other animals, but that S Milk, along with resulting Butter and Cheese, quickly makes up for the cost Good Fodder.

Yeah, as I said, they started a thread about IGN's article on Fire Emblem when ours was up just before IGN's.  I don't think it's too much to expect readers to check out our site before telling people to check out the exact same info somewhere else.

    2512
I'm not even sure you can buy a female sheep.

    2513
Pikkcuber, if your sheep has enough wool to be cut, it will lie in a heap on the ground after you cut it.  Your sheep will be much fluffier than normal when he's ready.

I'm just afraid this one's going to be some sucky spin-off.  It came out in Japan with little fanfare, and in fact, our importer couldn't even get ahold of copies.  Sounds a bit sketchy to me.

Cows: You have to impregnate them and wait about thirty days for them to give birth and then wait a few more days for them to start giving drinkable milk, which they continue giving for about a year. I'm not sure how long the calves take to grow up, but even if you buy a heifer, it will be some time before you can breed it. In any case, it's important to always have one pregnant cow to cut down in any downtime in milk production.

Trees take several seasons to reach maturity, then start bearing fruit in specific seasons. You can shake the tree every day to get fruit, but it seems the seeds are worth a lot more than the fruit themselves.

I say we move this party to Gameplay Help.  Especially since people are asking the same questions.

slacker: ducks show up on the first day of summer if you a) have a pond and b) have fewer than six birds in your coop.  Most people have too many birds.  Don't worry, I'm pretty sure they'll show next year if you prepare.

Use Soap: There are six chapters in the game, based largely on the age of your kid.  They don't affect your actual farm operation in any way at all, just the story and character interactions.  The second chapter starts at the beginning of year 2, but different chapters last longer than others.  There are six chapters spanning ten years.

    BIG TIPS for all:
-Cooking is not irrelevant - you can sell it, usually for far more than the ingredients.  That 30G fish can be turned into 150G Sashimi with little effort.

-Try to bargain with Van.  Meals you've cooked, golden eggs, golden wool, butter, cheese, and maybe some other items can fetch a higher price if you say "no" when he tells you how much he'll pay. He doesn't always bite, but if he is willing to pay more, he'll usually make a second offer with just a few attempts.

Announcements / RE: Let the Moderators do their jobs
    « on: April 01, 2004, 08:31:32 PM »
I've seen a huge increase in obnoxious behavior towards other users.  Please, be respectful, and let us handle the moderation.  I find it pretty sad that there are a ton of threads with so-called intelligent posters flaming a new person, and none of them used the Report button to let us know that there was a problem to begin with.

I don't really want to start banning the older posters around here, but maybe I'll need to make some examples of a few of you if this keeps up.

I think your "spam against spam" complaint is actually the biggest problem with the forums rather than our own moderation.  I admit, I try to be as big of a jerk as possible when people post just to advertise, but I've seen people get reamed by other posters when I had no problems with the post at all.  Perhaps it's time for an update to that announcement...

Almost nobody here has any control with the business side of things, so I can't talk about ads, but I still don't think the pop ups are all that bad.  Pop up blockers are becoming rather standard in browsers anyways, so I honestly don't know how long pop-ups will last.

I think you're picking a strange time to leave because of news coverage, because it's clearly getting better.  Just look at our recent article on Fire Emblem, which was up before a lot of other sites.  We do post rumors when they're warranted, but as someone else said, we can't just make stuff up -- which is something a lot of rumor editors tend to do.  The entire games industry is getting more organized about how they get the news out, so you're going to continue seeing all of us look more and more the same on the news front. Even if one of us gets a story up an hour or two before everyone else, it doesn't make much difference for most people that read once or twice a day.

Complaining about moderation is funny to me.  We've gotten more and more tame as the years have gone by.  Those who have been on the forums the longest may remember a time when they seemed so exclusive, you'd feel ashamed for saying anything that didn't sound like you were an expert on the subject.

Site design will be addressed, and it won't be our first redesign.  I'm sure you realize that we're going to need drastic changes soon with the upcoming DS and other systems.

And finally, I miss Rick and Billy too.  Rick is technically still around, but the days when he sat at home and worked PGC full time are over.  He's got a job and classes to deal with now.  He's probably the biggest reason I ever started reading the site, so I know where you're coming from.

Technical problems killed us in 2003 and kept us from doing a lot.  However, I feel confident that we still have a great staff, and the site is still strong, and getting better again.   I hope you hang around.
