Don't most of the book type games want you to be focusing on the touch screen anyways?  Even a "book like" game held in the normal mode (like the Ace Attorney series) would have a hard time with 3D.

I'm not the producer, but I'll answer anyway.  Even though he'll tell you otherwise, he's lying--it's best to play the games in order.  The charm of the series is so dependent on it's characters you'll miss out on a lot if you don't play the game sin order.  There are reoccurring characters confirmed for this game that Stratos hasn't even met yet if he's only played the first game.

Actually only one character from any of the later games comes into play here.  Even all of the hidden fan service comes from the first game....

Just finished the game... very well done.  Even von Karma is toned down and easier to tolerate even, dare I say, likable.  Gumshoe seems a bit more exaggerated than ever and could use a touch of that other detective if you ask me.  Anyone remember how Edgeworth suggests switching places - becoming a defense lawyer... it's funny how this game makes you feel more like a defense attorney than the PW ones did.  Nice hidden throwbacks here and there too... especially if you remember the dialog from the first game.  I ab-SO-lutely enjoyed it ;)

theres a movie record mode!!! I'm guessing its only limited by your sd card size..i wonder what resolution. Its up to 640x480...we are in business. :P

A friend at work yesterday noted that it could take full resolution videos.  That was the first I heard of it and don't know his source.

Quote
ive heard some complaints about the screen resolution, but it has a decent resolution
800pixels/3.53inches =226 pixels per inch horizontal resolution
240pixels/2.12inches=113 vertical resolution per inch

Ah, but the "800" isn't really 800 right, that's just beaming 400 into each eye.  When you move the 3D slider all the way down I don't think you get a double resolution screen, but rather a 400x240 screen.  3D means a 400x240 screen to each eye.

Will support IEEE 802.11 with enhanced security (WPA/WPA2).
Praise be to Iwata.

Well, this assumes that it's not like the DS and the game has to handle the wireless.  The comments about aggressively seeking out wireless connections regarded of loaded [3DS] game suggests that the unit itself is now capable of handling wireless - which speaks to an extended OS.

HOWEVER, I bet that when you fire up a DS game things might change.  Meaning that the system might go into a compatibility mode and relinquish control over the 802.11 while the DS game is loaded.

I assume you use the control stick.

So would I but it didn't look like that was what Shiggy was doing.  It looked like he pulled back on the controller to stop Link.

I'm pretty sure I saw him use the analog stick on the nunchuk. If he was moving the whole controller around at the same time that's probably just his hyperkinetic self.

If you watch the presentation at e3.nintendo.com you can see points in which the stick is clearly used control links movement.

So when the slider is off, are their *any* notable impairments as opposed to a standard screen?  Or does it just look "normal"?

You can sprint!  About time! :)

I hope they have two options for aiming.  I get that with Motion+ you can use the remote as essentially a free floating mouse, but pointing to aim worked really well for TP on Wii and might be a better option if your seated.  The mouse concept will work well too if the developers can get the plane of movement correct.  Looks like they map down on the d-pad to center during the bow, so that should be good enough to fix flinches

Not super deals by any means, but better than nothing:

Target is offering Gift Cards for particular titles.

Notably, $10 Card for Red Steel 2 + Wii Motion and a $5 card for Monster Hunter 3

Aw crap, been busy and out of the loop and this finally comes out.... which means it will probably be impossible to find a new copy at a sane price.

I also think that the wii-mote is probably the onlly controller in existence that can be played in one hand.

For the record, you can play Wave Race 64 one handed with the N64 controller.  I know several people who have an extra liking to this game simply due to this fact.  You can sit down and relax with your arms at your side and still play.

Actually, I thought the shake for spin was okay, but it was a pain for picking up objects, especially since you had to hold another button to do it anyway.

Only have gone through the first two levels, but I also do dislike how I have two different ways of picking up items... just holding 1 and then holding 1 and shaking??  Just takes a little to understand what's possible too.  For example I once couldn't pick up a frozen flowers (due to clearance I guess) and died as a result, no biggie but still.

I don't know if the spin jump has the same effect as it did in super mario world... where you could tap jump off spiny objects.  I've not run into many such enemies yet.  If it does then I'd probably have a complaint where I would have liked to have the spin jump as a separate button for comfort reasons.

Amazon mailed back noting it was a technical problem.  If you too are having an issue, I would try contacting Amazon help to get it resolved

Hmm, You pretty much hit things head on, on how I've been playing this game.  That includes shaking the nunchuck like in TP to do a roll.  I'm a big advance wars nut... so when I saw foliage... that's the first thing I would gun for.  I thought it would be part of the strategy, but like you note, it's more of just decorations.

I think I'll take your points in mind and give it another shot.  I still haven't tried the multiplayer either.

So Amazon/Nintendo is now pissing me off.  Has anyone ever gotten these promotions from Nintendo/Amazon in the mail for $XX dollars off of a game if you purchase online?  I got one for Punchout, which I didn't use ... and now one for Wii Sports Resort - $10 off.  Add to the fact that the game is only $46 online and I would be getting the whole package for $36.  Not bad right.

Except that, despite getting this offer *in the mail* when I go to use it, I'm apparently denied as the "offer has not yet begun".  In fact, 3 days later and I still have the same message.  Did I accidentally get the super USPS delivery of this postcard?  It has no start date.  Only an expiration.  Why mail it out if I have to wait some unknown amount of days before I can use it?  Amazon help will be checking into the problem - I'll post their response if I ever get one.  However, I was curious if anyone else received these post cards?  Has anyone tried to use one and have any issues?

Yeah, the camera wasn't my problem, it was the lack of more unit orders. I'd prefer if I could tell my units "go there", especially in case my artillery runs out to the front again.

Yeah, for some reason I thought that was supposed to be a feature, but couldn't find how to do it in game.... sort of an ability to command units from map mode... tell them to deploy somewhere.  On the first map of the second campaign... where you have limited units and have to first capture a control point.  I found myself left with only the 3 respawning infantry (not that it helped) on my side and 2 light tanks and a whole ton of flame vets at the enemy controlled base.  The enemy tanks came from across a river, and I'm pretty sure it's because one of my units on hold roamed into it's range when it was trying to find a nice spot to stop in.

As for my camera issues... I don't think it was IR related.  It felt as if the camera would roam on its own - especially when I would try to run into "cover"... like against walls or in trees and I found myself constantly changing views too to try and get control, but seemed to make it worse.  I've also had a few units in the first campaign get stuck in the trees.  One of which was the enemy, and made him near impossible to kill by myself.  I had to order my whole battalion to open fire and the CPU found some way to take him out.

And don't even get me started on how much of a pain it is to roll and jump.

Finally got around to trying BWii about a month ago ... the camera is horrible.  I couldn't progress at all in the second campaign because of it's spasms.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn disc problem?
« on: July 07, 2009, 01:28:27 PM »
So I finally got around to trying this game back when I picked it up a long time ago.  I had actually finished PoR prior and noticed the transfer option when I went to start a new game.  However, I ran into the same transfer glitch that's well known at this point - it occurs if you have any form of EASY save data on your GC Memory card.  After a couple of lockups, I dug up the info online and found out that replacement discs were offered to fix the problem.  Great, just contact Nintendo for one.

Well both the initial phone support and then email responses from Nintendo disavow ever having a replacement disk, even though I pointed them to numerous sources on the web and thread on their own site that had proof to the contrary.  The total denial is what troubled me the most in this situation.

Jason, a Nintendo tech support manager, called me back after I asked the normal reps to look into it.  He wasn't aware of the replacement option either.  However, he was at least cool enough to take off the denial hat and noted that Nintendo may simply not offer the disks any longer given that it's over a year old and the title in question wasn't that big of a seller.

Anyone coming across this thread who is in my same situation, sounds like we are out of luck.  There is one thought I had that may work if you know someone that has a working or repaired version of Radiant Dawn.  I suppose in theory, you would only need to borrow the working game briefly in order to start a new game and import the data.  I'd imagine it probably makes no difference which version of the game you use after that.  Just an untested thought though.  I'll update this post if I ever find a local with an updated disk.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: DSi Wi-Fi Caveats and Issues

Yeah it really looks like the DS only keeps some slop memory for the settings and the game sucks that info down and does all the legwork.... what I wonder is if the DSi is the same d*** way.  I wonder if anything OS wise is running when you fire up a DS title.  One easy way to check is if the soft reset works when in a DS title (short tap of the power button, not long enough to shut down the unit).

Off topic, I see your big BOYCOTT stuff and had to look it up.... Why such a big deal?  Just yet another software patent - and it's an idea that's kind of been around for a while anyways.

Nintendo Gaming / DSi Wi-Fi Caveats and Issues
« on: April 05, 2009, 06:16:39 PM »
So I learned a few things today - and I want to point them out because I have yet to see a review that talks about this caveat.

For all those of you excited that the DSi finally supports WPA2 encryption and look forward to playing your current Wi-Fi enabled games online over that method.  You can go back to being disappointed.

So I just got done with a little experimenting today on a friends DSi unit.  Looks like in order to get WPA support the unit pidgin holes the settings into slots 4, 5, or 6 instead of the normal 1, 2, or 3 that we've had in the past on the normal DS units.  Getting to the shop and any other DSi online apps worked fine with the WPA settings in 4.  However, booting up Mario Kart showed that we were unable to connect to the net.

I think I know why this is the case, and if I'm right, it'll be unlikely that older games will ever support WPA and that you'll have to wait for newer "DSi" games to get that capability.

Nintendo knows how to make networking a PITA. :(

So, any word on if this title will give any kind of multiplayer support?  I know the single player campaign is all about timing and patterns, but it be nice to get something a small step up from Wii-Boxing too without having to go to something like Fight Night, etc.
