Nintendo should really do their own variant to Sony's Playstation Experience that was here about 2 or so years back.

OR at least a European/country-specific version of E3 or something!

The person who apparently did that sound for it was copying the sound of his friends' motorbikes.
Jamster kindly decided to buy the rights to it (i assume), and the rest is sadly history.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Next Gen gaming gets more expensive?
« on: March 18, 2005, 03:53:08 AM »
Nintendo launched the cube here at £129 (lowest price for a new console this generation), while the PS2 and Xbob was at £199.
It is relatively expensive, taking currency into account, but that is still quite cheap. A £100 DS is impressive all the same.

The games is where it's improving: progressively, prices are falling. In the N64 days prices were £44.99. This generation, they started off at £39.99. Most shops are selling most games between £32.99 and £39.99 around here. Online it's between £29.99 and £34.99. DS games can be bought online for £24.99 or around that.

IF Activision decided to rise the price of their games it seems quite likely nothing is going to change here .

Nintendo aren't really super-popular these days over here. I'll give them credit for really pulling out the stops with the DS UK Launch, and it shows, but for the Cube they needed something attention-grabbing and headlining and brand new and there wasn't any.

Not to say there's nothing wrong with what they already have, it's that once the novelty of the existing nintendo franchises wore off, they're popularity remained albeit quietly. Plus you can't help that PS2 really killed them with games like GTA - Mass Market are gamers who don't like to think or use their brain too much, hence why Metroid Prime is "too difficult".

Also, it still weirds me out that black people live in the UK.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: I cancelled my PSP preorder today
« on: March 16, 2005, 12:20:40 AM »
Sony should really do "an Apple" and make a PSP Mini - Exactly the same as the PSP minus all it's media capabilities, making them all entirely optional add-ons. Then drop the price to something sensible.

However, Sony haven't announced a release date or price in Europe.  And knowing the UK it'll be nicely more expensive than everywhere else.

Nintendo wouldn't have snapped up the game if they thought it wasn't good or had potential to deliver a new experience. I like the fact it isn't an FPS, a little effort will mean all my FPS-loving friends will hate it and be the only one to buy it because it actually requires brain power.

*Patiently waits until 2006 when Nintendo Europe may get around to giving us one copy for all of Europe to share*

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Zelda release date?!
« on: March 07, 2005, 10:11:34 AM »
I would suggest believing it's still coming out at Christmas at the earliest.

That way, if Nintendo confirm anything earlier than that then you won't have got your hopes up so tremendously high by believing what people like Game and Play (These people said Super Monkey Ball 3 is coming out in January) mistakenly say.

TalkBack / RE: Nintendo DS Download Service Revealed in Japan
« on: February 25, 2005, 09:23:44 AM »
I'm not saying that cost is prohibiting people to get it. I have it myself.
Here in South London I know next to nobody with WiFi, minus businesses - It's yet to get "out there" on a mass scale.
If all my friends wanted to play (for example) Metroid Prime Hunters 8-player online co-op against another group, they would all have to come here to do that, or go trekking to a Wifi Zone to do so.

One potential way to "fill any hole" could be for Nintendo to partner with Netgear to offer wireless hardware.

All their wives and children know what broadband is and have it - Knowing what broadband is is no longer an issue (vs pre-2001 to most) whereas it'll take a little realising that you don't have to be a millionaire to go WiFi.

Attempt #2: Who has wireless connectivity at home?

It would defeat the point of even having wireless online oxygen if no one has the hardware to do so.

I think it's better on a more social level to interact than doing it remotely (online), but I would still appreciate the option nevertheless.

A point out is who has Wireless Internet at their home? *raises hand and looks around*

If "left handed" people are in the requirements thats good, but I would like to know whether developers will make games knowing that left handed people cant control using the directional buttons and hold a stylus at the same time.

Bear in mind I haven't played a DS yet so I could easily be wrong.

4640
I have yet to play it but NIntenbdo are touring around the UK at the moment.

I'm more concerned about left-handed players and whether developers will "remember" them.

Place bets that this won't hit Europe/Australia for a long time, or if they do the shop will be closed for 364 days and 23 hours of a year?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: METROID PRIME 2
« on: January 29, 2005, 11:34:58 AM »
The manual says you can turn using it.
However the turn is extremely limited.

I haven't played any console Metroid before Metroid Prime and none of the handheld Metroid's; I wasn't very used to it. Hence why it took me several days.

The room design for the Vault, where you have to use the Screw Attack to leave the room wasn't very helpful. I then broke the game in my attempt. Screw attack into the outer wall on the right side where the platform to leave the room is. If you continue doing it, the game will eventually put you on the platform instead.
I had the hint system on, it would have been helpful to have had a DDR "follow the timing" thing for the first attempt to get used to how to use it.

I'm trying to suggest that you personally are failing (it's all a joke, no offence intended).

I personally like a challenge and the game did exactly that. The difficult obviously surprised me at first but when I got used to it I realised I couldn't walk through everything with ease.
If you didn't enjoy the game then i'm sorry. Everyone to their own I suppose.

Well done to Retro and Nintendo to making this game slightly-more difficult than previously.

If it's too difficult, you're failing.

Some may not like it, but a game should present me a challenge (Super Monkey Ball 2 on Advanced or Expert Mode is a good example) but not be so easy I wasted £35 (Crash Bandicoot).
The level of difficulty in Echoes was centred exactly in the middle of the two (which would explain the Teen Rating - A little persistence paid off. In places the difficulty was extremely mean but I would rather adapt to the game rather than the game adapt to lower skill-abilities.
Low sales for Echoes is entirely down to Nintendo and their poor marketing. All my friends play Halo 2 multiplayer at the weekend when they can but do not for Echoes. IT's not down to Retro (though a similar but not exact "standard" control scheme would be beneficial) but to Nintendo for failing with their marketing so much.

Put him a room with no doors, windows or ventilation and ensure it's painted Painful Pink.

How we put him in the room isn't really imporant. Anyone have any ideas to solve that conumdrum?
