In that case Burnout Paradise is a threat to society and roads all over the wordld.

If it were as easy as watching a competitor do it and then getting right to that level by emulating it, PSN would be a lot better than it is. Sony still hasn't gotten their service to the level of Steam or Xbox Live, and they've been actively working on it for years. I don't expect Nintendo to get it perfect right away, but I want to see them making progress, and with what I've seen on the 3DS and the little bits we've seen about the Wii U I think it's clear they're learning.

I had to bold this bit out, i didn't say to basically emulate but to "exploit avenues for development". WiiConnect24 was the first attempt at this, probably, and MiiVerse seems to take that and move forward with it. That in itself is exactly what i mean. Except it's been 6 years to get to this stage.

Nintendo has had 6+ years to basically watch what Microsoft and Sony are doing.

Because WATCHING is the exacting same as building your own version from the ground up, right?

You have no idea how this works, do you?

With the amount of time from last generation (and specifically the launch of PSN and XBL) to now they have had plenty to look at the intricacies of both systems and start their development from then.

I may not know anything about this, according to you, but looking and analysing competitor products for weaknesses and exploiting avenues for development is something businesses in a healthy marketplace should be doing by default. Nintendo seems to run so contrary to that angle, especially since the N64 onwards, that its basically competing its profit margin per product (and hence its technical advancements) against it's price and developments by the rest of the world.

TalkBack / Re: 3DS Successor, Not Revision
« on: June 13, 2012, 10:19:57 AM »
If he's right this would be the very first time Nintendo has ever had a handheld with no revision whatsoever (unless you count the Virtual Boy, but that was just because the system failed).

And the Game Boy Color (and NO, the GBC was not a revision of the Game Boy).

They are never gonna add a second circle pad unless there is at LEAST 1 game that REQUIRES it to play the game. So far every game out or announced only supports the Circle Pad Pro, but doesn't require it to be played. The only revision I can think of that is really needed is a longer battery life, maybe fixing the screen issue some people have.

It makes me laugh when I see someone say 3DS Lite since any revision would not be smaller (which is why the DS revision was called DS Lite).

I only call it that purely for tradition. I doubt it would be called that, but in the absence of a better name it will do. Maybe i'll call it the TJ Spyke?

But i forget this is Nintendo where logic does not apply.

To be fair i don't want a Metroid IP from them.

Nintendo hasn't made a new core IP (especially a potential franchise) since Pikmin that's gained traction and it's long overdue now.

I think confirming the existence of a 3DS Lite, especially one that merged the second circle pad in, would simply validate that the original one wasn't the "final" design.

So it's best to cut and run and go onto the third "real" DS ... the 3DS maybe?

Nintendo is incredibly purchase-averse. Why would they spend the tens of millions on Activison when Retro Studios was bought for only $1m?

No he's not in the movie, i've seen it last week.

This week i saw Snow White and the Huntsman  - The first 2 thirds just setup to the third. All i can say is Charlize Theron looks STUNNING. And Kristen Stewart needs a slap because for an "action" movie she did very little, again.

Um, you might want to lighten up because you know what he means and it's not a big deal. Maybe you shouldn't take everything so literally...

So then by "literally", you mean it metaphorically? :-P

He made a mistake, and I pointed it out in good humor-- You're right, it's not a big deal which is why I chose to have fun with it in the first place.

Which one of us really needs to lighten up?

Oh the irony, it's almost too much. I would suggest actually you read the dictionary meaning of literally before you try and "correct" someone on its usage.

Quote from: da dictionary
lit·er·al·ly /ˈlitərəlē/ adv.
1. In a literal manner or sense; exactly: "the driver took it literally when asked to go straight over the traffic circle".
2. Used to acknowledge that something is not literally true but is used for emphasis or to express strong feeling.

And yes, it doesn't really make sense, that's why it's a little bit of a contentious definition, but it has been that way for a long time.

Good to know people can at least see what i was aiming it. More importantly this is the internet - making sense is optional.

This is literally Schrodinger's Cat. The game that may not have existed, may now not exist anymore. But did it exist because we wished it into existence?

*confused*

MIB3. Exactly what i hoped from the movie. The right balance between sci-fi and comedy (and TLJ's straight-faced humour).

In other news, has anyone got an iOS bug where you don't see chapter titles?

Someone's going to kill M? *yawn* I want see another good Bond movie before Craig gets too old, is that too much to ask?

A Bond movie without Dame Judy Dench who, lets be honest, is the real star of the Bond franchise now! is not a Bond movie.

I battled with the controls all the way through. The constant NES style to pointing remote literally cut through moments for me. Combined with Samus stuck in place while in first-person made the switching even more jarring. It eventually got to the point where i died at seemingly simple points repeatedly because i can't switch and adjust quickly enough.

When i completed the game i didnt bother doing the second ending. The difficulty then reached the point that standing still while they bounce around and hack'n'slash at you freely made me eject the disc and never touch it again.

The only thing i can suggest is a warm dry environment (like an airing cupboard, where the boiler is etc) and leave it there for a few days. Past that no idea.

Sanctuary started helping the individual and went, over time, to the larger group and race of people. Then the politics around what they do and the outside world.  In that respect it simply had a bigger scope.

Sanctuary has been cancelled. It never was amazing but it was a good series that maintained its premise well. I'm noticing since SGU started there has been increasingly cheaper shows taking priority (Eureka, Warehouse 13, Alphas) over the ones that broke tradition. I'm just glad that the season 4 finale actually works quite nicely as a series finale.

Person of Interest - A lot of people got hyped up at first over this (because its a JJ series), then the hype disappeared fairly quickly because it appears to be a basic procedural. At first it beds down into that procedural rut but then, very smoothly, starts expanding its list of recurring characters and players into the game. It's strange how this show simply became more interesting. It's intriguing use of post 9/11 paranoia really sets the tone with some of the characters. Lets hope S2 takes this and goes forward.

Cleveland Show i gave up in after 10 episodes Look at Boondocks and realise whats missing from the production team, and Family Guy is on fumes and they even acknowledge that now.

American Dad from season 4 (roughly around when FG started its decline) is where it went from being a FG clone to the best of the 3.

£220 is kind of expensive, but most showings is £9 at the cinema i go to. So i need to go 25 times in 12 months to break even. They also give me 10% off any food/drink, which i skip every time.

In 10 weeks i've seen 10 movies, so i'm doing good.

Plus seeing 3D movies adds another £1.50 on top even WITH my unlimited pass (plus another 80p to buy glasses). So i don't see them.

Battleship released 2 weeks before Avengers (bad move) and disappeared a week later, there was other movies i wanted to see in that time. So it just got put down the list again and again.

Then it disappeared from the cinema.
