Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 433: Now E3 is Real
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:14:06 PM »
As for Leo's question about a "New Nintendo" refering to his surprise by the Humble Nindie Bundle. I was shocked and it wasn't because they were trying something new, it was because they seem to not like sales and certainly not sales where you get 13 digital games for $10. They're the guys that always shout about preserving the value and they refuse to do more than small discounts (I just saw Donkey Kong Country Returns at Best Buy for $50). I'm just happy to see this and I hope it continues

TalkBack / Re: Star Fox Wii U: Managing My Expectations
« on: June 05, 2015, 12:13:35 PM »
As a kid I loved Star Fox 64. Back in January I decided to buy Star Fox 64 3D. Holy Cow! I loved the single play way more than I expected to. However, for some reason they changed the multiplayer mode and I don't like it as much.

I hate that Nintendo Land SHOULD HAVE BEEN the huge success. To me it was just as fun as Wii Sports maybe more. We've loved playing it. In fact, I bought my system at launch and we still pull Nintendo Land out sometimes and play it.

I would've expected these to come at E3. Why did they decide to announce now?

Lucina was available on Amazon for ten seconds. Ten seconds. Ten. Seconds.
And then it was sold out.

No way it was 10 seconds. I was actively refreshing my amazon screen and I never saw any available. I had the live #amiibo twitter on my 2nd screen and when I saw people saying they got one I about lost it. Then I saw I wasn't the only one hitting refresh that somehow missed it.

I don't think Nintendo realized what it had when it introduced Amiibo. Reminds me a bit of Wii and how even Nintendo was surprised by how popular it was. Then, 3DS got a positive reaction. Nintendo tried to capitalize, and it blew up in its face. Now, Amiibo is really popular. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo is just more cautious now. It's probably trying to strike a balance. Scarcity isn't really helping Nintendo. It makes no money on resold Amiibo, but it also doesn't want to be stuck with a warehouse full of these things.

In any case, my friend scored me a Lucina. I wasn't able to get a Splatoon 3-pack, but I'm not sure I need it. If they all do the same thing, I might just get the girl Inkling.

I’ll trade you my Splatoon 3 pack for your Lucina.

Your jokes pierce Neal, but only because I'm actually one of the few people that bought Codename Steam. I bought it at launch and I've been dying to get the fire emblem characters so that I can use them in the game. However, with all my work so far I'm completely empty handed. Today it was 2 Walmarts and Best Buy and half hour of refreshing Amazon's Lucina page and I'm still emptyhanded. In 1 more hour I'll have my last shot with refreshing Amazon's Robin page and I'M TIRED OF THIS NINTENDO!

Why is it when I hit up Best Buy this morning I was the 6th person in line and there was only 1 Robin and 1 Lucina??? There were multiples of everything else. I had my pick on all the other AMiibo you know like the Pacman and Wario that only work with Smash, but only 1 of each and everyone in front of me except 1 guy wanted the Fire Emblem ones the most. I'm tired of Nintendo not producing more.

185
So just to follow up on Nintendo's latest round of failure, I've been keeping an eye on my 1 nearest GameStops, my local Best Buy, and my local Walmart over the last few days. Of these 4 establishments, only one got any of this supposed Amiibo restock, and that Gamestop only got ONE Amiibo figure: an Ike Amiibo that was already reserved to a person whose pre-order was unfulfilled back in December. One Amiibo in my entire city. That's the extent of Nintendo's efforts, the culmination of their promises for the last few months. Pathetic.

That's correct, but keep in mind we can not criticize Nintendo the holy ones

That's funny, I'd suggest most forumers on this site are hyper-critical of Nintendo.  It's one thing to criticize Nintendo for their clear failures in forecasting demand, but then to suggest it's as simple as (a) ramping-up orders, (b) finding another manufacturer to produce more amiibo, or (c) offering it on their website as a way to order them shows a clear misunderstanding of production, demand planning, or possible contractual agreements between Nintendo and the retailers who currently sell Amiibo.

But I know this is a site devoted primarily to people who care to talk about it from a fan perspective, so it isn't terribly surprising many here don't care about those nuances or at least have that provide context.

I actually can understand and forgive failing to forecast demand. It's the complete inability to adjust that is baffling me. Until someone can show me where I'm misunderstanding (keep in mind I work in manufacturing so I understand some of the difficulties) they launched these things 6 months ago and it didn't take long at all to realize they weren't producing enough. At first I thought it was awesome that they couldn't keep up with demand because I assumed that within 3-4 months they would increase supply to meet demand and we'd be ok. Instead I waited 6 months (this thread is the first time I even felt frustrated by it) before I lost my patience and I've officially lost it. For quite some time I was ok with arranging trades on craigslist and paying a little extra for some of the figures, but it should have been fixed by now instead it's gotten WORSE. I wouldn't have lost my patience if it had at least improved a little instead it's worse. There's literally NO EXCUSE especially considering it's really only 1 area (North America) where they underestimated demand.

So if New 3DS sales are not doing very well why is it that I still can't find a N3DS on the shelves at Best Buy or Walmart? I expected everyone to say Wii U sales aren't great, but New 3DS is flying off the shelves. Heck it's easier to find an Amiibo than a New 3DS here where I live 2 Walmarts and 1 Best Buy nobody ever has 1 in stock.

Nintendo's new strategy appears to be to under-produce everything to create the illusion that everything is a runaway success.  Seriously though, I see New 3DS's all the time where I live so it probably just varies by area.

I'm glad to hear there aren't shortages everywhere. I guess either they're super popular here in Southern Utah or we just don't get many shipments then.

Phoenix Mode sounds great for my 3 year old...and nobody else!

Let me get this straight, if one of my guys die, they come back to life the next turn? Doesn't this make it almost impossible to lose? As long as you didn't lose ALL your players in a single turn you can't lose.

Doesn't sound fun to me. With Awakening (my first Fire Emblem game) I played through on Casual Hard, then I did Classic Hard both were fun and they are different enough that it almost felt like a different game the second time as I had to use completely different strategies. I tried lunatic, but I have yet to figure out how to beat the second level on that difficulty. (Yes I'm still playing that game it was my overall favorite 3DS game until Xenoblade 3D arrived)

I can't believe I"m saying this but for once I'm with Broodwars

190

1-Advance Wars Dual Strike. I loved 1, 2 and Days of Ruin, but I never got Dual Strike and I'd love to play it.

2-I've never played Chono-Trigger so I'd like it to come.

3-Diddy Kong Racing-Since we know the N64 version will never come to VC I've wondered if it would be possible to get this version. Too bad they aren't adding multiplayer support to the emulator I'd love even more to play this multiplayer the N64 version was my all time favorite racing game it was so innovative maybe we'll get lucky and find out that Retro Studios is currently working on Diddy Kong Racing 2 next month at E3

4-Phantom Hourglass

5-Spirit Tracks

I never had a DS (I was in college with no time and no money during the DS time) so Diddy Kong Racing is the only one of these 5 I've ever played and I only played the N64 version so as much as DS VC caused a lot of complaining from most people it was an exciting announcement for me.

Looking at the Wii U line up makes me wonder how it is that this is the lineup for the kiddie console?
I'm stoked for Xenoblade X!!! The original is AMAZING and if that is close to as good I'll be playing it for years to come. (I bought Xenoblade over 2 years ago and last month I started fresh playing it with my son)

I kind of want to know sales numbers for Xenoblade 3D...then again maybe I don't want that kind of bad news. I LOVE that game, but I doubt many people have it.

Yes Toad is new that's the point of this whole Amiibo debacle nobody can find Amiibo if they had started making adjustments last year when they started selling out then there would be enough Toad Amiibo for everyone that wants one.

Wario is what? Where are you shopping?

Reissues? I haven't seen any. Several times a week I go to Best Buy and or Walmart and look for Amiibo and I haven't found anything worth mentioning in months. Even though I called 2 different GameStops multiple times a week for a month I never found a Shulk and Nintendo also fully owns Monolith Soft. I had to find a random guy that was willing to sell it to me (trust me this is not a cheap method of getting Amiibo) I'm very irritated

I have to disagree with 1 part of this article. I own and played this game on the Wii and I'm still getting it TODAY! I'll be more than happy to enjoy another 90ish hours of my life because of this game (and I don't think I've ever taken a 15+ hour game and conquered it twice it's just not my style)

I have to fully agree and then some with another part of your article.

"If you're not a fan of turn-based battles, then Xenoblade might be the RPG for you."

I love RPGs in concept, but once we get into the turn based battle stuff it kills me. For example, I loved the story in Earthbound, but I couldn't bring myself to get very far because all the grinding with super boring turned based battles killed the enjoyment for me. This however gave me very little grinding and real time not boring battles.

Xenoblade I'm coming back for more TODAY!

Dr. Metts,
You got what you wanted. They will update it so that you can speed up the alien movement.
Hopefully it's not marginal because that's a big downside to be for that game.

« on: April 02, 2015, 11:47:07 AM »
After listening to you guys this morning I have 2 thoughts

Smash write in I heard a couple weeks back I don’t remember if it was on RFN or NVC’s podcast, but the idea of Abraham Lincoln (from Codename: S.T.E.A.M.) for smash so that Nintendo could do an Abraham Lincoln Amiibo that’s what I’m writing in and I hope everyone that heard that podcast episode does the same.

Second, I was let down by 1 thing in the Nintendo Direct. I was really hoping for them to announce a Xenoblade 3D special edition new 3DS XL, but they didn’t. I would have bought such a thing in a heartbeat, but instead I’ll be playing Xenoblade 3D on my plain red new 3DS.

199
In other words:
"If watching a Nintendo direct wasn't enough stick around for the Treehouse live event and if that's still not enough come back in a few hours and listen to us retell you everything they said plus everything we wish they had said"

Last year I got platinum only to discover that all the games on the list I wanted I had already purchased so I gave it to my sister. This year there are several I want, but haven't yet bought so I have to decide which one I want the most.
