It's kind of a no-win if if you think about it. Back then the problem was the devices were over priced and did too little, today it's the opposite their too cheap and do too much and there are too many on the market for consumers to stick to one. What has changed since then is companies now target narrow markets instead of trying to make everything have "mass appeal" which is smarter business because some stuff would never exist if it had to have mass appeal.

I never understand why the **** people never, you know, tell the fucking management. That's what they are there for, not to sit around for two hours while you watch a movie. You will do nothing by telling them to **** off, and most likely make it worse. If you're gonna miss part of the movie anyway by confronting them, just leave the room and tell someone. Then, they get kicked out for good and you can relax. Not to mention, all you are doing is being even MORE disruptive by retaliating in a stupid way.

For someone that seems to watch a lot of movies in your spare time, you don't seem to know how to handle them. I go to movies once a month and when I get fuckers like that, I get them kicked the **** out of the place. Better than trying to "be a man" and tell them shush.

it was a joke mostly but even still when you get older you will understand.

ok

No, I won't. I'll probably be even less scared of them when I get older. You were that age once, you should know how to handle them.

Who said I was scared of them I said I hate teenagers, big difference. Yes you will understand when you are older, it is something we all go through it is called growing up but you still got some of that to do so no hard feelings. But since you are a teenager obviously your still in that phase of your life so there is nothing I can do to convince you otherwise, yes I was a teenager once and I am so glad I am past that phase in life, like most adults.

You must be a pretty sad individual if you're afraid of someone like me.

There's an interesting feature: having games where the gamepad is just running the camera so that you can watch yourself play.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo systems old and new
« on: April 04, 2014, 05:14:47 PM »
What got you into Nintendo gaming, what are your best/worst Nintendo moments, memories, and favorite, least favorite games?

I am genuinely curios because lately it seems like most Nintendo fans are just fans of the company and have either forgotten what they used to like or what got them into Nintendo in the first place. I am guilty of this, the Wii had so much potential and then I lost interest because it wasn't more like the Game Cube and then Wii U has me kind of not caring at all. I should be hyped I stood in line in the cold winter to get a Wii, I got a paper route and saved all my money to get an N64 and I sold my drum set that I had been dreaming of starting a rock band to get an SNES so once upon a time I would bend over backwards to buy the latest Nintendo console.

I will share mine first and others feel free to chime in or ignore it if you want. What got me into Nintendo gaming was Donkey Kong. I played it in the arcade, and on the VCS. I also loved Popeye and Mario Bros, similar gameplay. I got an NES one special Christmas and was hooked, I loved every minute of it, the dark times, the endless glitches and blinking aside I couldn't wait to get home from school to play some more Super Mario, Duck Tales, or Mega Man. I rented more games than I owned back then. I got a Sega Genesis for my 12th birthday and like most people it just made me hungry for more Nintendo. I kept it for a while but once I got into Super Mario World, Mario RPG, DKC, that was it, Sonic was dead to me.

I got an N64 day one, loved it played it to death, got all the big titles, Turok, Mario 64, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Banjo, MK4, MKT, DK64, Kirby, and many others. I traded in my aging Genesis and a used Saturn I grew tired of never finding affordable games for and picked up a Game Cube with the Zelda Collector's disk bundled in and took it home plugged it in and instantly reminded how awesome Nintendo was. I loved the Game Cube, it has the first and only decent 3D Sonic game released, it had a pretty good Pac-Man world with a Vs. bonus disk, it had a unique and interesting Final Fantasy that didn't rely on emo tranny saving the world with big sword. I stood in line to get a Wii because the idea of motion controls sounded super exciting, Wii Sports was pretty good, there was Wii Play which held my interest for about a week and then motion controls became unappealing. I tried to love the Wii but somehow I lost interest. Looking back even the few Wii games I might be interested in is not enough to sell me on Wii U, as tempting as Mario 3D world and DKC TP are, I just sort of lost interest.

At first I thought I lost interest in gaming entirely until I picked up a PS3 early last year and remembered what I was missing out on. I also had a PS1 and a PS2 during their heyday so I was covered but when Wii came out I just couldn't afford the behemoth PS3 so I went all in and I think that was what soured me to Nintendo, it was the first console they made that I really felt lacked all the games I wanted. Wii U is even more lacking and as hard as I try I can't get excited for it, I should Mario 3D World and DKC look amazing, but thats not enough. But why is that when Mario 64 was enough to shell out $250+ of my hard earned paper route money? That is why I think the Wii U biggest problem is price, for the first time ever Nintendo priced their console out of the target market that usually buys their machines.

Right now even a used Wii U costs more than every single previous Nintendo console did at launch and that is including the useless Basic models that are also way over priced. It isn't just the Wii U, I struggled to pay $129 for a DS but the 3DS is too far out of my reach to care and even the cheaper 2DS as appealing as that is, is still too much for a hand held, especially ones that traditionally launch at that price and go down quickly. I would grab a 3DS in a heartbeat at $129 or lower but I can't find anything even used at that price. I won't get a Wii U until it gets down to below $250 where it should have launched and by then it needs some games too. Look at Playstation, their first was $300, their second also same price, their third double that, which one had trouble selling, and it wasn't all due to games PS3 had the games all along. PS4 is only $100 dollars more expensive and with bundles it's priced right where it should be, that is why I think Nintendo needs to drop the price ASAP. I especially think a $50 price drop days before Mario Kart 8 would be a miracle for Nintendo and might save their asses.

As far as hand helds go, this is console discussion but I will throw this out there, had a Game Boy Pocket and then a GBA, and then a DS all within a year or two of release. I would have gotten a regular game boy sooner but I was young and no money then and my parents gave me Tigers and said that was good enough.

Anyways my best Nintendo moment ever was playing Super Mario 64 for the first time, magical never forget that moment. I still go back and replay that game and as old as it is and as lame as this sounds just that game in full HD with proper graphics upgrades I would buy Wii U tomorrow.

My worst Nintendo moment was playing Wario World, probably the worst game they ever had anything to do with. I liked the Wii at first and I think if I got another one I might give it a second chance but I am torn, get a cheap Wii for next to nothing or get a Wii U and play Wii games on it?

So what are your memories and if you aren't sold yet on Wii u, or even 3DS what are your reasons and what would be the tipping point for you? Me dropping the price would get me closer, but honestly it needs more games, Hyrule Warriors has my interest and Mario Kart 8 could be a good game but other than that I think all I am interested in is Mario 3D World, DKC TP, and maybe New Super Mario/Luigi U but even that is not much. I thought I was interested in that Sonic game but I lost interest after watching videos of it on Youtube, even still that is just barely one more game.

Of course all this would be settled if the virtual console was worth a damn because that held me over on Wii for a while but even that is not enough I have Steam and PSN for indie games already.

I don't watch many movies anymore, time, money, lack of interest, fear/loathing of teenagers... I did see Robocop remake when it was fairly new and it was so so. I think it needed to stand on it's own and it had a good cast, a good premise and a pretty good set up but in the end it felt like it was just trying too hard to be different and then leaving out the important stuff. It had a few moments but that was it, nothing that stood out as epic as the original. Sure the original is dated but so is Star Wars and it's still a great movie. I would give it a 3 out of five, didn't hate it didn't like it.

For a racing series as high profile as Mario Kart to not have a track editor is not only confusing, it just doesn't make sense. Yeah, when you open up the game for community to tinker with, you're going to get varying degrees of quality. But that's why we have rating systems. And if you make the editor robust you can certainly attract some of the very talented editors who could be making some fun tracks. Either fantasy or real world locations(I'm imagining karts racing down the LeMans track right now).

Is that a common feature in the other big racing games? or is it just something people wanted and didn't get? I have never played a racing game that let you edit the levels, in fact I haven't played many games that do have level editors and the ones I did, like Excitebike, well sucked anyways.

I am pretty sure the president of my company doesn't know **** about what goes on in our day to day operations. The director of the studio maybe but depending on how big they are and how their corporate structure is the president might not know **** about his employees teams, why would he that isn't his job. I don't know what mythical game Retro could be working on that would get me excited, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze looks amazing and is one of three games I would get if I had a Wii U, not enough to sell me on the system but a first day purchase once I get one.

What I want to know is if there is a battle mode and if so what is it like? I loved the original battle mode but all the others have not done it for me. That would be one thing that might get me excited for this game, that and the Koopalings that has me interested at the very least.

TalkBack / Re: Super Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct Coming Tuesday
« on: April 04, 2014, 04:33:54 PM »
Everyone on these forums would more likely than not buy the game immediately, but that doesn't mean a stealth release is a good idea.  To ensure solid sales, especially early on, you gotta build that hype machine, get people talking about the game, make sure it tops the charts.

I don't think I'll ever buy another Smash game. I owned Melee and bought Brawl, but never really got much out of them. I appreciate the fan service but the actual game part has never appealed to me. I don't enjoy Kirby platformers, I don't enjoy Smash, and I don't enjoy Uprising. I guess I just don't appreciate Sakurai as a designer.

You are correct though. Nintendo need to build the hype around Smash, not so much to ensure solid sales for the game itself, but rather to push sales of Wii U. If Smash and Mario Kart can't get it done, then nothing will.

I am kind of with you, I only had the first two, N64 and Melee and that was enough for me. Brawl was a rental and I got all I needed out of it that weekend. I think the fact these games keep getting made is part of what is wrong with Nintendo, it's all fan service lately but they stopped trying to get the stuff out we keep begging for.

Also I agree if this game can't move systems nothing can, but I lean towards nothing can at this point because Brawl didn't sell me on a Wii, that was built in, Melee didn't sell me on a Game Cube the N64 did that, so far nothing has sold me on Wii U and this isn't going to do the trick and I know I am not alone in this. Mario Kart is another one I lost interest in, Double Dash was the last console one I played and that was not my favorite. I know there is an audience for these games but I think many of them have moved on, so this could just be signs of Nintendo knowing they are done for.

As for a surprise release six months early goes, ask Sega how well that one works. If they did that then the comparisons to Nintendo being in Sega's shoes would never stop, so no a surprise out of the blue release would be a desperate move that only seals their fate.

The only way a Smash Bros. game will get me back is if they do another single player campaign like Melee had but cater it to each character, and again that only worked because there were too few full games on the Game Cube so it was for many characters the best we could get.

General Gaming / Re: What are you playing?
« on: April 04, 2014, 04:23:30 PM »
The only game I been playing is that FreezMe demo someone posted a link to, other than that I will be in my own place again next weekend so my PS3 is coming out of the closet finally and will get some real use. My backlog is real long at the moment so I have plenty to look forward too. And I try to get around to AVGN Adventures once a week but I haven't this week. Only because its the only game I can play without internet and I have a connection but it is too slow to do much with. Even Netflix times out most of the time.

1562
Yes I did finally figure that out once I tried the demo, remember my comments are suggestions mostly.

Impressions so far, obviously it is an alpha so I won't be too harsh on the glitches but the game is very buggy on my end. Most of the platforms disappear when I get too close to them, or somehow I fall of the edge of the screen and die when there was no indication there was an edge to fall off.

The cameras I hope are preliminary because right now they are too touchy and don't stick, some of that could be my mouse, which is in desperate need of a replacement so when I get some money to replace that I can be sure.

Her jumping is way off, she needs to jump twice as high as she currently does, I can't even get onto half the platforms and the ones I do she falls right off, rights through into an invisible abyss, or bumps her head and falls back down.

The level design is too generic, I already voiced that but here are some suggestions to make it better. First don't model it too closely on the N64 which was very limiting because that will just limit the game and come off as lazy to some people. I think the level design is alright so far but it needs more textures, there should be little things like butterflies and birds flying around, maybe as she runs through the dust have her kick up a dust trail, I saw some sort of dust effect or trail following the other characters so that could be something you are working on and needs tweaking or it could be something my GPU doesn't support.

IF this game is going to be beefy, like require a current or high spec system then it is beyond my reach on PC, I am stuck with a two year old laptop with a 1.5 ghz Quad Core with 8GB RAM, so if that can't handle the game you might be over reaching your target audience by a long shot, the types of gamers who invest heavily in PC's tend to be more into graphics heavy games and this is not graphics heavy.

Let me see, the music is okay the more I played it and got to listen to it, it was kind of bland in the youtube videos but again those were short videos so I might have just had too quick of a listen to get it, I think it could maybe be more uptempo if this is the first level because in a platform game you want to keep the player moving, if the music makes you get sleepy or too relaxed then you slow down and the game loses some of it's appeal.

I like platformers they are one of my favorite genres, but keep in mind there are a lot of bad platformers out there. I like the general idea, but obviously it needs some work.

I tried to take a photo and it didn't do anything so if that is still being worked on fine, it's still early. I wasn't sure if you could interact with the enemies or not, can you jump on them or will she have some other way to defeat bad guys?

I like collecting coins and things in these types of games, each platform should have at least one thing to collect or they should be spread out, all I saw were a few diamond things in one area. I didn't play much the game was too slow and choppy and I tried all three settings. Again I am on a laptop but I can play pretty intense retail games even New Vegas no problem so if this is slowing down my machine it could use some optimizing which I am sure comes latter so no worries there something to keep in mind.

Side note, my comment on Game pads was to include support for more than just Xbox controllers and your write up made it sound like you had an xbox controller in mind, generic controllers use numbers Xbox are the only ones I know of that actually label their buttons. I don't use Xbox controllers, currently I mostly use Logitech Dual Shock style controllers and specific controllers for specific game types, I personally have a USB N64 controller and most likely if supported will use that, otherwise I will use one of my dual analog stick controllers so no worries there, what I meant was don't tailor it for Xbox controllers but support as many as you can manage, obviously most people use Xbox pads or at least they are the most vocal maybe but it was just a suggestion. I didn't try to use a controller so I will mess around with the ones I have and report which ones work and which ones don't when I have more time to mess around with it.

Keep it up for sure this does look better than just another Disney/Nick Toons tie in which are the bulk of the platformers out there, which I avoid like the plague.

For reference my favorites are the first three Crash, the DKC games, Bug and Bug Too on Saturn, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Mario 64, DK 64, Pac-Man World, and most of the main Mario games. I also play most of the Sonic games even the bad ones so I am okay with a less than perfect game but I am more forgiving when it involves Mario or Sonic because I been playing them so long they are hard to hate on. I was not a fan of the Banjo games at all and I really despite most cartoon based tie ins even the Pixar/Dreamworks ones but again that is just me something to consider.

Jumping is important, getting her to run and jump together and high enough to matter are big deals so work on that because if the final game she jumps like she does now it will be a terrible game.

Also don't rule out Playstation if you can, many of us former Nintendo guys have moved on to Sony and we still get these types of games on Playstation, maybe not as many as on Nintendo but they are still out there. Personally I have a PS3, will get a PS4 and have a PC, so that is my preference not to sound rude don't take this that way but this game even if given a full retail release, would not sell me on a Wii U so don't put all your eggs in that basket either, previous Nintendo consoles yes, but Wii U is in a weird place where not enough have transitioned, even those of use who traditionally would have. If this releases next year or latter things will be different keep an eye on the market but if you do consider Sony you can get it on 3 platforms under one account, Vita, PS3, and PS4 maybe even PS Now depending on how that turns out, so my advice is talk to Sony first and only talk to Nintendo if they are super accomodating or maybe willing to help publish it. Nintendo user base right now is really small and they are really focused exclusively on first party stuff even indie stuff is having a hard time so yes we are your audience but we also don't all own a Wii U, yet.

Yes Wii has been discontinued (the online service will be shut down next month, remember?). I just saw PS4s in stock the other night for the first time ever.

I knew they were shutting down the online but I didn't know they stopped making them, I still see plenty of them in stores. Also I thought the reason for the WFC shutting down was because the company who hosted it made the decision. I just never read anywhere that they already stopped making new Wii's I thought they just released the Wii Mini recently.

1564
I guess I can share my recent experience if it helps anyone. The short version is this, I moved to Nebraska to start a new life, get away from my old life and get into college, which I did. Some things from my past never would go away so I built up some anxiety and began experiencing some stress, so I started using the schools councelling center for help, talking to someone was nice for a while but then I got hooked on just wanting someone to talk to. So I kept going back even after we settled my anxiety. Then to make it worth going I dug up other stuff from my past and transferred things others went through into my own life to make it all sound more interesting. I also exaggerated some stuff because it's easy to do when you are trying to get a certain reaction. Anyways they wanted to put me on some medication, I tried different ones and they had negative side effects I won't bore anyone with.

Then I realized I was deteriorating, I was losing interest in everything, I changed my major/minor soo many times I lost count and I was dropping classes, adding classes, failing classes where before I was totally focused and getting mostly A's and B's. Going back to college after being out of school for ten years and having dropped out of high school meant I had some catching up to do anyways and for the first year it was just that, catch up. But I still maintained a decent enough GPA and kept going.

Last Halloween my counciler suggested I go to a Halloween party, anyways while there I realized some things that were wrong and I stopped taking the meds and canceled my appointments all. She panicked and sent me into a whirlwind of pain and misery that ended with me staying three days in a mental health clinic and ultimately getting banned from school and tresspassed from campus, including getting kicked out of my apartment and having to move in with my elderly aunt and uncle. Since then I got a proper full time job, transferred to a community college and began taking classes online through them to finish what I started.

it was a long road and I am not there yet but I am getting closer to stabalizing and getting things back the way they were. Well needless to say I had too much, I panicked and sold all my things, packed my van and moved to California, you know to go to Hollywood and get into film. I got there, realized I made a huge mistake and turned around came back and took another job. It was a wild ride, but in the end I think it was good for me to face my fears and realize that past is something we have to live with but we can't be haunted by it.

Do I suffer from depression, maybe I tend to have wild mood swings, but really I just need someplace to go to talk to someone. I began coming here because I have been reading this site's news forever and the forums are a place to vent. I think we all come here for similar reasons, to share ideas, to talk to like minded people with similar interests, and to get **** off our chest when we need to.

I have lost loved ones, friends, family, the woman I was engaged to, its hard to get over. Some to death, some to distance, and some to things that can't be explained. I am not entirely alone but I sometimes feel alone. That is what drew me to this forum, you guys act like people with real problems, some forums if you stray from the topic at hand they just ban you for going off topic. Some people act like their video games or toys or movies, whatever it happens to be is the world world. Yes we all want an escape but sometimes escaping can be bad sometimes you just need to talk it through.

General Gaming / Re: Are Android consoles part of the 8th generation?
« on: April 04, 2014, 09:53:17 AM »
I think they will likely be considered 8th gen in the same way the virtual boy would be considered 8th gen.

But what makes something fit into a certain gen? Is it a matter of power because the Wii and Wii U both would fall into a previous generation. Is it a matter of timing because if so the dreamcast exists in it's own little world.

Is my aging desktop which is basically awaiting the scrapyard despite coming out in 2006 considered to fall with the 7th generation despite being unable to run far cry at a framerate of more then 6 fps. If I successfully manage to repurpose the hard drive as an external drive for the Wii U would it become an 8th gen system by association?

That was sort of my assertion. I think a generation should be hardware based, not timeline based but I think each market should be defined, hand helds are in their own generations separate from consoles, if that helps.

It also depends on what you consider a console, where does V Smile fit, or Tiger hand helds, or plug n play tv games? Or Atari Flashback consoles?

I think we need some simplification sure but we also need to keep things defined in an organized manner otherwise it gets too confusing. If you think V Smile is a game console which generation is it in? I consider it education toy and not in any "generation"but again what is a generation, hell even in people generations are not clearly defined, who here is Gen X, Gen Y, Millennials?

I don't mean to be rude I want to offer ideas but I really think that people use the word differently, in fact until recently there were no talks of past generations or numbering gens, they just used the term next gen to refer to the new product, hence my reasoning because it fits what was the norm for a long time, now what is being retroactively applied.

Let me ask this, what is the first gen? Do you count Pong consoles, or do you start with Odyssey or VCS? Which generation is the Intellivision or the Coleco Vision they can't be the same their hardware is too different and they were released in different times frames. Who decides is what I want to know and what is their criteria. Are you just going by Wikipedia or are you only curious so you can edit Wikipedia?

Up until about five or six years ago there was no numbers to the "generations" this is a new thing that began with Wikipedia and other gaming fan sites. Wii U is Nintendo's 8th console so it is their 8th generation gaming console, PS4 is only Sony's fourth generation of Playstation it is not an 8th gen console.

The "current gen" is technology based by most accounts, even developers the people who make the games refer to Wii U as "last gen" only ones who refer to it as current gen or next gen are fans. For Nintendo it is next gen because it follows their last gen, but it is not current gen, it's not even current it's over a year older than the new gen. In smart phones generations last a year tops, in PC's they go from OS to OS, so there is that. With video game consoles things are not any different than any other field, these game consoles are new to market they are in their first generation when a new batch comes out they would be in their second generation. You can't just lump all "video game" players into a single entity and a single generation, that only began recently and as far as I can tell NOBODY agrees on what it even means anyways.

So to recap, NO they are not in the same league as game consoles so they are not even in the same generation, they are not in the same hardware category so they are not even competing they are a different market reaching a different audience period. There are TWO current gen game consoles Xbox One and PS4, when Steam Box or Steam Machine releases it will be in it's own generation, and so on. Generations are arbitrary and pointless get over it.

EDIT:  The only reason people care is so they point to the best seller and declare it having won the console war that generation so take that into consideration and reevaluate why your even interested in the first place.

1566
I thought that is what Oculus was, a headset that worked with other devices? Is it restricted to a single device? If so why the hell would Facebook even be interested? Sony is also making their own headset so the idea of it being an accessory is what they are doing so I still think it will be cool. I think it is more one of those if they do it right once people try it they will like it. But I could be just getting my hopes up because I have always wanted proper VR so for me it is exciting to be getting closer.

And no offense but the Wii is not motion controls only, they offer several choices of controllers so that argument is lame anyways. In fact I think the problem wasn't focus on motion controls but they had too many options which is plaguing the Wii U because now you have more options and people don't want too many choices they want simple choices, an optional upgrade that enhances the experience is fine but having to have several controllers just to play all your games is too much.

I have noticed they are no longer out of stock in town, I checked all the stores and everybody had PS4 for sale, they still had prominent signs saying "PS4 In stock" but I think the rush has begun to wind down and now the sales will flatten out. Either that or they somehow managed to get their supply numbers up. I live in a very remote, rural town so having them in stock in decent numbers here is something.

What is interesting is Wii U is everywhere but Wii is getting harder to find, have they stopped making them yet? I have never had trouble finding Xbox One in stores here either.

I always knew when I learned it was "powered by Gamespy" it was temporary, **** I think people even voiced fears about that back then but I can't remember everything people bitched about from that long ago, most of the noise was Wii was a terrible name and motion controls were going to ruin gaming. And something about Gamecube 2.0 or some crap like that. But i do remember thinking myself it was  a bad move to rely on a separate company whose future was uncertain, especially at the time when all of this was new territory. I never used the online for Wii, ever, I never owned a single online capable game that I know of. I played Mario Kart DS and Tetris DS online a couple of times and remembered why I hate online gaming.

Dropping the Zapper is exactly why I think they could get away with losing the Game Pad, it might bring the price of the console down and get more users to jump in, We can kiss dreams of good 3rd party support good bye but at a decent price, like $150 or thereabouts the Wii U is a fine console, but right now it is over priced for what you can get and it's not getting any better. If this Gamepad is keeping people away Nintendo needs to either try releasing a "core only" version to see how it sells or get on the ball with their follow up which is not a good idea either so what can they do except keep marching into irrelevance?

1570
I wear glasses and I still think it is a good idea. Who said it has to be all about immersion and who said these has to be for ever video game ever? It can be an option for those who want it, why limit technology just because some aren't into it? OK you are not interested so don't buy it but I am interested and I think I would rather live in a world where I have more options than be stuck to one way of playing.

Hey Ian you said yourself your favorite game was Rogue Squadron or it was your favorite Star Wars, wouldn't that game be great in a head set? Ok so sometimes you want to sit down and relax play a game, fine just like sometimes you want to sit down and watch a flick on the TV, but don't you also want to go to the theater to get that awesome experience? It doesn't have to be every day but it should be there as an option.

Also this is NOT the same as 3D, nobody is saying this has to change the way gaming exists, just that it could be an option for those who want it, and as more want it there you go. We all already have personal media players we plug into our earbuds and tune the world out, how is it different than strapping on a head set and tuning out and on that same note isn't it more relaxing to go into a virtual world than to sit and stare at the TV and still be able to see your crappy wallpaper and tacky furniture to distract you?

And screw 3D that was lame and is not even at all the same as this, it's the same argument the pro-3D people use in reverse, everyone was against stereo and now we all have stereo, everyone was against color and now everything is in color, everyone was against HD and now we all have HD, BS that is a lame argument and has no bearing on this discussion, it is not the same, the only thing the same is there are people saying it is the future of something, they might be right they might be wrong but it is not the same because 3D was a different beast, it has some of the same issues, namely those of us who wear glasses, but that is an issue 3D has. Also 3D was a trick on your eyes, VR is more natural if done right and from the looks of it this is closer to done right than 3D ever was.

Like I said, if YOU consider it such then yes, but I spelled out reasons why I don't in case he might agree with my line of thinking, don't have to take it so personal also if you are going to reply GIVE A REASON like I did don't just say human nature because that is a cop out, it is also human nature to categorize things like I did and to ask questions that need clarification, which I provided, none of the other responses gave their logic, Uncle Bob gave good examples kudos for that, but how do you know if the OP agrees with your line of thinking or if they want something to ponder? None of us are right by the way but at least I backed mine up with reasons, fail to do that and well your not even answering the question.

Yes so far all my impressions are based on the youtube videos. I downloaded but haven't had a chance to try the demo yet. I agree with Fatty, as your target demographic is Nintendo fans do try to get this on Wii U, I think Steam is OK but really these types of games are not fun to play on a PC which is why Nintendo excels at them and Microsoft avoids them like the plague.

I guess what I meant about the music is that it was missing something, it just sounded like it was the same clip over and over, not saying that is a bad thing but if you are going for a Mario type feel remember each level should have it's own theme, you don't have to over do it by making every level have it's own music just each theme should like snow levels, grassy hilltop levels etc.

I tend to notice music more as I am a musician myself so that is just my feedback don't go out of your way to make it a masterpiece but really try to beef it up plain old midi tracks are boring it needs more, I didn't spend a lot of time listening to it but it did sound bland when I did but when I get around to playing the demo I will give it a more fair assessment.

KEEP IT UP, if this game gets finished up I can see it being a fun game.

As for changing the character, maybe not her hair but do something with her clothes if you can, something that differentiates her from Dora, I know she doesn't look exactly like her but she does look similar enough that is the first thought most people are having and I just think if there can be confusion your going to get whoever it is that owns Dora's attention and you really don't want that. If this was a school project you would be fine but even as a free give away this could be seen as devaluing their property if enough people mistake it for her so keep that in mind. Maybe change her hat or give her a hat, or a head band, or something to really set her apart. Another option might to alter her body type a little, maker her taller relative to her surroundings that could help.

Also while it might seem like a good idea to model it after a girlfriend now, unless you are already committed to the long term, consider using her as the basis but change enough that supposing you split up over whatever, she doesn't sue your ass off. Not that she would but you know what the say about a woman's scorn, so better safe than sorry.

All in all KEEP IT UP we need more games like this, we need more games period and if it turns out great and you can get it on the right platforms you might have a hit. I don't have a Wii U full disclosure but to be fair I WILL NOT buy a game like this on Steam, it's not fun to play unless you can offer full controller support with analog inputs otherwise if it requires key mapping or forces one to use a specific controller like a 360 as an example you are cutting off your market right there.

Also don't just limit yourself to Wii U, if you can get it on PSN DO IT, Sony has an audience for these types of games too and they are more lucrative business wise, so if you can get it on PSN go for it, if you can get it on eShop go for it, but if you limit yourself to Steam, well obviously money is an issue but all food for thought.

I love these types of games, but they still have to be good and they still have to be accessible.

Let me reverse it, why do people need to simplify and label things? Are you black? Are you white? Are you African American? Are you Indo-European with ___ and ___ ancestry? Are you a nerd? A geek? A jock? a duchebag? Labels are harmful and simplifying things is stupid.

Sony can launch a streaming games service because Sony has games, not just their own but classic 3rd party games people will pay for. Xbox doesn't have that most of their games that people are interested in are already on PC or were also on Playstation anyways so most of the games they would or could have are a up for grabs on competing services. Xbox works as a brand because the hardware is appealing, the software is not so much. They have their own exclusives but really only since 360 took off Xbox didn't have many exclusives people would call classic. Nintendo, Sony, and maybe Sega if they got off their ass, could launch a virtual service where they can rely on their past software to keep people interested, Microsoft does not have the games those other three do. I would almost say Atari could have a better streaming service than Microsoft but that is stretching it. As for media stuff, I think that market is so crowded it's almost like nobody even buys media players anymore they just buy whatever device and it just plays their media. I think the only ones who are bitching about the PS4 supposed lack of features are pirates that Sony would be good to just ignore anyways. If your video isn't a standard file then it's probably not from a legit source anyways.

General Gaming / Re: Xbox One selling worse than Wii U?
« on: April 02, 2014, 05:20:49 PM »
Even if it is true, like insanolord pointed out there is the closer technology in the two but also a lot of the games that are getting released now were already in development before the console launched so nobody could predict early sales. Wii U had a good amount of early investment too and it dropped off once sales did, so right now Xbox One has better support but that could change. Also a lot of these franchises were successful on past Xbox consoles whereas they were not successful on past Nintendo console so once again it's different markets. if Nintendo wants to be on equal ground as everybody else they have to make a console that is on equal grounds as everybody else and they have to take the lead on pushing their ideas. GameCube has comparable CPU/GPU but it lacked in other areas namely lack of DVD and lack of online, two factors that caused a lot of games to get left out that otherwise would have been on the system. You can't just make a product that is comparable in one area but weaker in others and expect it to get 1:1 support. Also Microsoft courts developers whereas Nintendo just expect them to release games on their machine just for the hell of it.
