I barely remember the details, but was it a scene in the woods?

And no, I don't remember anything truly graphic in the movie.
It's a slower paced movie, but interesting.  It's more psychological than shocking in theme.

I liked the movie but yes that scene near the end when the girl took the cop into the woods I think went too far for my tastes. The movie was not graphic really at least not for the genre it was. I don't know how to do spoiler tags so I won't ruin anything for those who haven't seen it.

BnM bypass the government altogether, this is a good idea then let's make it happen.

Yeah that's not even remotely possible.

Certainly not when it comes to replacing all public access roads, power and communication lines, along with water channeling and whatnot. you will need the government involved, and have them contract your company to maintain, monitor, update and upgrade the equipment.

I meant don't sit around and wait for them to decide to do something. There are private roads and parking lots too. Also they said on their site they already have a contract with some government highway agency already.

TalkBack / Re: Mario Kart 8 Review
« on: May 15, 2014, 07:05:01 PM »
My favorite part of Mario Kart was the battle mode. I like the racing but I also liked the battle modes the games that have a battle mode tend to be the ones I like the ones that don't are the ones I don't like as much. I think it is perfectly fair for a man to write a review based solely on his own opinion. That is not journalism, reviews are NOT journalism they are opinions, that is how it is supposed to be. A review is not supposed to be a free ad for the game it is supposed to be an honest impression of the game. I don't care for the game because it was never going to be the game that sold me on a Wii U, it was just another game to sell to the existing audience which were already hyped. I find it stupid that anyone would attack a reviewer who has PLAYED the game when they have not done so just yet.

Also if you base your decision to buy a game or not based on a review site then your dumb, reviews are just other peoples opinions period, get over it.

I guess that post was a bigger mess than I thought, I typed it with one hand while playing some FF7 with the other. Anyways my question was how does the eshop compare title and selection wise to PSN. In other words, if there is a game on PSN that I am interested in is there a good chance it would also be on eshop?

According to their website they already got a pretty big grant to build a prototype their funding they are asking for now is for manufacturing startup costs from what it sounds like. I have a sister in Sandpoint ID I shared the video with.

Also this was an interesting fact

Quote
While we found no evidence that moonlight or the light from shining stars at night produce energy in solar panels (a common question), we found that headlights did. Although it would be very difficult to measure accurately due to distance, speed, hi/low beams, etc., we found that a small solar panel placed flat on the ground about 10 feet in front of a vehicle with its high beams on produced electricity in otherwise total darkness. So it appears that vehicles driving on the surface at night will be providing a service as well as reaping the benefits.

If they had the motivation Sega could pull it off but they lack the funds more than anything. Sega fans have been begging for them to make a new console, they keep releasing those retro consoles to stay sort of in the hardware business, and they have a software library that if given a dedicated console to get behind could make a major splash while taking away something big from Nintendo at the same time. NOT saying that it will happen but if anyone could pull it off it would be Sega but chances are they would just end up going under anyways.

Amazon can't pull it off because they already are trying to get into gaming and it would be suicide to kill off one major product to take on another.

BnM bypass the government altogether, this is a good idea then let's make it happen. I don't know much about how these kickstarte type things work but I know that the Internet has made getting the world out much easier these days. want to see this a reality, take it up as a cause, post this video everywhere you can, donate what you can to the fund, as much as you can get by with. Don't go all in as a big investor or anything but if you really believe in it set aside $25 a month to donate to the fund, get a few friends on board and get the ball rolling. I would gladly donate that amount to a private company that could make this happen before trusting the government to make it happen. It doesn't have to be done on a large scale all at once to get noticed, talk some small gas station and super market chains into putting these in their parking lots and maybe start there once the public becomes aware of it they will put the pressure on Uncle Sam, also there is a big mid-term election coming up this year, if you expect Obama to be able to do anything your going to have to find some Senators/Reps to agree with him and that is going to be a challenge in the current economic climate.

They need a ton of money so crowdfunding might not get them where they want to go but maybe start small, get small companies to place orders to put these in their parking lots and private roads and get the word out. I personally can't wait for driverless cars and am all for clean, renewable energy. I think the major issue with these things is the all or nothing approach well if it's a good idea take up the cause and make it work on a small scale if you can. There operation sounds small and they don't have manufacturing but out here in the Midwest if you want to start up a plant there are tax incentives, the issue is building your plant here and then finding the right markets to test this in to get it going.

EDIT: I just read up on the website how the Indigogo campaign works, I am not sure if they are going to make their goal in that time frame, I would donate to the campaign but my contribution is going to be small.

I am all for it being a success in Japan but it needs to sell here as well. To be honest this game might be more of a game changer than I originally thought though as the new bundle deal is really a good bargain for those on the fence, its like get the game and get three free games or something like that right?

900p and 792p are not real things. I assume that means 1600x900 and 1408x792 then, which is a very odd resolution.

The console has no choice but to scale to one of the officially supported resolutions, those are 720p and 1080i/p period unless the TV supports odd resolutions which in the US they can not by law. There is a difference in display resolution and render resolution but they all display the same on the TV.

I just watched "We Are What We Are' on Netflix as they kept hounding me to watch it, and boy were they right on this time, the first suggestion Netflix ever recommended me I agreed with, this movie was great, It was a little slow and it had some what the **** moments but it was exactly what I was hoping for and turned out better than I anticipated. The plot was kind of interesting, the characters were believable and the gore was not the sole selling point like I would have expected, in fact it was hardly gory till the very end and even that was tame by current standards.

The movie is about a religious family who somehow turned a folk story about their ancestors surviving on cannibalism into a part of their religion. It is more of a thriller than a horror movie so it is more about the psychological aspect rather than cheap scares and excessive gore. There are some disturbing moments but for this kind of movie that was to be expected. The ending was perfect and made the rest of the movie totally worth it.

I would rate it a 4 out of 5 easily. Maybe a 3.75 as there was one scene that almost ruined the whole movie for me.

General Gaming / PSN vs eShop
« on: May 14, 2014, 05:27:42 PM »
Ok the topic is broader than Rayman but that is where I will start. Recently I have been in a slump so I began trying to get some more use out of my PS3 than just watching endless hours of Netflix. So I began downloading a ton of old PS 1 classics and some PS2 games I missed out on being a GameCube supporter back in those days.

So as I browse around the PSN store I stumble across a game I remembered wanting but never getting into Rayman. So on an impulse I buy it and Crash Bandicoot in the same binge. I would say half of my Ps3 library is made up of HD collections/Remakes from the PS2 which is one reason why I wish Nintendo would do a few more of those. Then I realize as I am playing these games, Gex was another I grabbed recently although that one I had before on Saturn so I knew what to expect.

I have two questions, upon playing Rayman I am starting to really like it and I know there is a new one, Rayman Legends or sometime, just curious if that is available on PS3 or is it just the new stuff like Wii U and Ps4? Second are there more games like this on eShop? or specifically is there a place to browse the games on Eshop? I am curious because I hear how lame Virtual Console is for Wii U and honestly unless there are game Cube games on there I am not interested anyways I had all the games I wanted on VC on Wii. Everything else I now have on PSN and am enjoying that. Also what is that new Rayman game like on Wii U is it any good compared to the first one?

Although I hate the interface I am finding that PSN has a ton of games I am interested in, most are under the Classics and the bundles/collections but I am also finding a few indie titles I am curious about. Up till now I got most of my indies on Steam so my other question is how does eShop compare to PSN and Steam for titles and selection? I know there aren't likely to be many PS1 games but are there Arcade games on Wii U? I have the Duck Tales Remastered and am thinking of getting Castle of Illusion and the D&D Arcade games two pack and I have SSF2T HD also. Are any of those on Wii U either? I ask because I am contemplating getting one eventually, maybe when Mario Kart releases to get in on that Bundle Deal, but I am curious what the digital library is like because if I invest in a Wii U it has to be justified so I want to know if the digital games I want to get are on Wii U so I can decide to hold off for a while or just get them now on PS3. I am already interested in NES Remix 1 and 2 but there has to be more than just those two games.

I am somewhat aware of the games released on disc, the few that I know about that I might like are the three Mario Bros. games, DKC:TP, maybe W101, and that new Sonic game and the new Pac-Man game because I always enjoy those Pac-Man world games. But I know there are few games in stores especially around here so I am hoping the digital shop is better I am not expecting to be have everything PSN does, but does it compare? Does it at least get some of the 3rd party stuff that the retail stores don't? And aside frim Wikipedia is there a reliable, easy to read list of games for the system that isn't a mess like Nintendo's site?
Last question, any news on if or when AVGN Adventures will be on PSN/E Shop? I have it on Steam already but I would gladly buy it again for either console if it is improved at all, or just to play it properly with a controller that is fully supported as the Windows version is a mess in that regards.

sorry post is a mess was typing with one hand.

So the PS4 version will run 900p, X1 version 792p. Both 30fps. I expect the Wii U version to be 720p at best.

WHY? I isn't like it will be the PS4 version of the game, most likely it will be the PS3 build scaled to fit the Wii U interface, so it will run just fine.

I am not so sure Hyrule Warriors won't be a system seller. I know the mainline Zelda games sell great and die hard Zelda fans love the same old same old, but I know a lot of people, myself included, who love Zelda games but have gotten tired of the same old formula and are liking the idea of a new type of Zelda game. Obviously it would need a major ad campaign to be that game but the consensus among Zelda fans is it will suck but I am not so sure.

On the topic of revealing a game early I don't think that is a new thing or a good thing in itself, they have shown games in the past that got people hyped up that never materialized, remember Project HAMMER, or Super Mario 128? As for E3, I am still not convinced their new strategy is the best but I don't think it will kill them I think if anything it is just a sign they are pinching their pennies instead of throwing money around like MS or Sony would do. I think that is smart for a small company losing money and feeling the pressure to diversify their portfolio.

I am also super excited for any new console that/hand held that can unify their entire game division under one platform, I have been wanting that for a long time. It always bothers me how their handhelds get the games and the attention their consoles deserve so if this will bring everything together I am in. I am not sure about the rest of the world but between the Hyrule Warriors, the new figurines, and Mega Man in Smash Bros and if true Pac-Man being in the game too would help build up some hype.

Actually for me personally I have been on the fence for a while but after watching some ACGN videos recently on the Wii U covering NES Remix and a couple other videos I am starting to think I might be getting one sooner than I planned now that I have a second job.

Nintendo doesn't need a whole VR company, just better technology to what they already have.

I don't hate the Wii U, I just wish it had more to offer for the price. If they slashed a hundred bucks of the top right now I would get it next payday.

You can get a refurbished 32 GB system with Nintendoland directly from Nintendo for $200 right now: https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?_DARGS=/ng3/global/gadgets/productListRangeRow.jsp.addToCartFormId

Technically not new but everything I've read is that these systems are indistinguishable from new systems.

I could get a used one for less too but thats besides the point. Also there are only so many refurbished ones to go around since it is you know not selling that well to begin with.

I think it is a smart move, as they will make money off the Nintendo fans who aren't willing to buy their console, assuming the figures are sold separately, and they will also get the current fanbase fired up with interesting new games, plus make a **** ton of money on the side to smooth things over and get the go mobile people to shut up for a while. Also making these things work with Wii U, 3DS, and promising to make them a substantial part of their business going forward keeps the collectors locked in.

I love these kinds of games and always thought Zelda needed more action. I like the idea of them trying new things with Zelda and still releasing a traditional game too.

What I would also love is an Turn based or Real time strategy games set in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Forget that guy make me a mod I can whip this place into shape in a weekend.

Hi! I'm Khushrenada. I can't argue with that. But I am curious as to how you would whip this place into shape.

Also, if you want to win over the gullible masses to trick them into giving you this power, may I suggest you jump into and participate in the Funhouse Forum (a.k.a. Talkback 2)?People like if you give them the lulz and that's the best place to do it.

Yes I am familiar with how this place works, I was a long time lurker before joining, I used to listen to the podcast a lot but lost time. As an aspiring broadcaster myself that was what drew me here but now I am moving into other things.

I wasn't being serious I would not want to be a mod. I didn't realize it mods were added by votes I thought they had to be staff or picked by the staff.

I guess I'd be one of those "Grey area" people.  Bought a Wii U at launch because I wanted the Nintendo games, fully expecting that much like the Wii, Nintendo games would be the best reason to get one (although looking at my current library, it's actually 2/3 Nintendo, 1/3 3rd party, which is a better ratio than my Wii library).

I think Nintendo has this misconception that they're similar to Apple in that they can decide what the consumer wants, deliver it, and the gaming public will eat it up.  The problem is that Nintendo's fanbase who are that rabid is much smaller than Apple's core constituency, so even if they hit gold one time (Wii), if they falter another time (Wii U), then their fortunes fail miserably.

They're a video game company whose games I adore (mostly), whose hardware I've tolerated lately, and whose virtual console & online functionality is lousy compared to the competition.

I've often questioned whether Nintendo actually has a passion for hardware & feature development, or whether they tolerate it as a current-day necessity because they don't see a possibility for the same level of success if they just gave up the hardware game & focused on game development, where they really shine IMO.

But it isn't their hardware, they actually make good hardware, it is their consoles that are the problem and lack of focus. The Wii U has low specs but I don't think that matters for game development especially for Nintendo games for Nintendo they are new specs. That is why their handhelds do fine, they do release the games there people want, with their consoles they act like they take that base for granted. The problem is Nintendo does make great games but they also make lousy games that they just expect you to buy inbetween the great games and while everybody does the same their library is more noticable because they have fewer partners filling in the gaps.

I always intended to get a Wii U, but I find it hard to justify buying one at the current price. Specs or not, the console is still currently more expensive than all their past machines LAUNCHED at and there is no new tech to justify that kind of markup other than the Game Pad which for me is not worth the extra expense. I usually get in the middle of a generation when the price comes down, but the games library needs to pick up too. By the time I got a N64 and a Game Cube they had over twenty games I was interested in and were getting new games all the time, as of right now the Wii U has at most, if I am really going to lower my standards or just throw everything in there, they have at most 12 games I would buy period, that is not enough for me for the cost.

I know Phil gets upset about this and asks questions like why complain on a fansite except that is basically saying I am not a real fan, which is bullshit I love Nintendo and I might not be one of those who feel betrayed because I honestly don't care about them as a company, and like I stated before I already have a Playstation to meet my non-Nintendo needs. Personally I believe the PSX was the true successor to the Super NES and many of us are still hoping that Nintendo will pick up on that. I feel like yes they still make great games but the number of games they make that interest me declines each year. Wii at least had Virtual Console and Wii Sports to get me hooked and it took me damn near three years altogether before I got tired and sold it off, because as usual the games I was waiting for kept either getting pushed back or mentioned once and forgotten about and I personally just got tired of waiting and yeah maybe I would lose interest because damn after three years of delays you forget a game was even supposed to be coming.

I don't hate the Wii U, I just wish it had more to offer for the price. If they slashed a hundred bucks of the top right now I would get it next payday. My reason is simple, that is where the machine should have been priced by now in the first place and is inline with my expectations. I don't care if you like it fine good for you, maybe I was a little harsh in that other thread but I TOO get sick and tired of being told my views don't count and I should just shut up or go away. It is this type of thread this antagonizing that makes some of us come off as more bitter than we really are because your forcing us to defend our position but when we, god forbid, ask one of you to do the same, like I did with UB, i get told to **** off in so many words.
