Could The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers have helped inspire Cowboy Bebop? Things that make you go hmmm...

So, any love for Legend of the Overfiend and all its glorious tenticles?

No. Steam Boy sucked. It was transparent and sophomoric and tried to be all over the place resulting in it failing to maintain a single powerful narrative thread.

I didn't come away from it feeling like that at all. I didn't go into it with any expectations, nor read up on it before hand. So I was easy to please. I thought the art was clean, the animation fluid, and the story was what I expect from anime. After all, who keeps a little girl in a war machine?

Perhaps my judgement is flawed from years of exposure to Bubble Gum Crisis and the likes of Voltron and Tranzor Z ?

Aside from Miyazaki, Steamboy from the creator of Akira is an excellent piece of work that stands above the crowd. The only downer for me is Anna Paquin doing the voice of the boy. How hard can it be to find a boy that can do the job? Whoever had the bright idea that a girly girl like Anna could pass as a boy should be looking for a new job. At least Patrick Stewart does an as always teriffic job.

I wasn't saying that scans from the mag should be put here (they weren't that great of quality anyhow) but why have two more threads on Call of Duty when there already was one?

I just wanted to throw in a reason why the demos could be so large: high def textures. Since the Wii doesn't have that, I'm sure demos for it will be fine. Thankfully you do have the option to increase how much storage space you have on the Wii.

Hey, look. Its the original post about Call of Duty 3. And what do you know. Its the same screen shots that was in EGM that graces PGC's homepage.

To me they look like artwork. Either there is a filter being applied to create a 'grainy' look, the screen capture didn't work right, or they are just concept art. The screen with the two swords has a close up of the zipper on the sleeve, and it looks all geometric, but looking at the rest of the environment just gives a sense of colored pencil.

While I'm not a fan of Pokemon, I think that Nintendo needs to use the franchise on the home consoles like they do on the GB. Even take it one step further into a MMORPG. Could turn me into a fan (maybe).

I would love Resident Evil on Wii. And any other horror games, as long as they are well done. Using the RE4 engine makes sense, too.

While its nice to see some friends from Rare, I really want to hear what Zoonami is planning.

On a blog that I think many here visit, there is some speculation on some new Nintendo patents. One being on a shader tree, another being on emulation, with the last pertaining to adapting one system's APIs for another. I can see the last two being relevant in bringing Sega and NeoGeo games to the Wii, no matter what the original console is. No practical the patents are though, who knows.

Sounds like Square wants to make 2007 (or 2008) the year of FFVII. I think it would be cool to see the game ported to the DS, but I have little time for RPGs, and would rather play them on the big screen than the little ones. Ok, I am really considering FFIII, but thats different.

As long as Shiggy's new IP isn't a virtual garden where Nintendo sends you a random set of flowers and veggies every day, it should be cool. Pulse has several connotations to it, so its wide open.

I still feel the pain of Superman64.  I'm wary of any others.

Kojima is overrated IMHO. Unless he was making something really cool that his fans could get behind, I don't care what he does.

I don't want Tingle. Period. New side quest for Zelda is good. Even having new ones sent in over time would be great.

Thats all I feel like writing. But one more request. Someone needs to make a Wario game out of BlackNMild's icon. 'Follow the Jiggling Jugs'. Imagine using the Wiimote like drum sticks, patting each one and watching the bounce. It would be hypnotizing.

General Chat / RE:How do you make your computer faster?
« on: July 08, 2006, 03:10:02 PM »
If you download alot of music and the computer is slowing recently, its got to be because of spyware/adware or viruses. Having a bunch of storage should have no bearing on your performance.

Even if you go to 'Start - All Programs - Startup' that will list some items that can be deleted to improve performance. It won't remove the programs, just takes them out of the Startup folder.

Then you could go into the Registry editor, though using a program like 'Hijackthis' will do the job without worrying about messing up other entries in your registry.

If you use any spyware removal tools, use them in safe mode. A program cannot be removed if it is in use.

Adding RAM will help performance, though unless it is significant you may not notice a bunch. Upgrading the MoBo BIOS may help, but most of the time a manufacturer will recommend it only if you are having a specific issue that the upgrade addresses.

Don't worry about a SATA HDD unless you have the connector on your MoBo already. Otherwise you will need a PCI adapter then the PCI Bus becomes the bottleneck in you bandwidth instead of the IDE Bus.

Windows XP requires registration. Halflife 2 requires registration. Its not much for Sony to make the next leap, especially if they call the PS3 a computer. Then the games would be equivilant to PC games.

I would hazard a guess though that Sony would not want to be on Gamestop's bad side, since they are the number one video game outlet this side of Walmart. And even BestBuy is trying out the used game and movie market. To lose those retail outlets would be suicide in the US.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Possible uses for the Wii/DS connection

Take my idea for Madden, you don't look at the DS until you are making your play. And if you're in multiplayer mode, you can't see what the other is planning.

And in Rainbow Six, while you could trace a path with the remote, the DS could also act as a GPS so you can track the progress of the team with out having a map overlay. Its not like the action is so balls to the walls that you won't have time to take a glance.

What I'd like about using the DS as a remte spy cam is you can put it down if your character is in trouble, then come back to it. In Perfect Dark you had to abandon the device and pick it up later, thanks to the single screen.

How about draw your own plays in Madden. Or draw paths for your A.I. team mates in Rainbow Six. Or like in Perfect Dark it could be the controller for a remote spy device. How about urban driving games where there are garage doors that open when you input a security code at the right time, giving you access to different cars or shortcuts.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's unannounced games

So, I was browsing IGN's blogs and found this bit of info from Halo_Prime:

Apparently if you go to Press.nintendo.com
Username: Media
Password: Dslite

Then go games and pick wii. There will be alot of games that were unanounced such as Digimon, Gundam, and tamagotchi are being made by nintendo.. Taito has three titles in development. There are also games that are just listed as genres such as Konami is making a soccer game or AQinteractive is making a Boxing action game. Spike is making Jawa. Ubisoft is making Open seasons. There are alot of action games listed. A few sports games listed. A couple developers such as namco have listed an rpg. But the biggest amount of unanounced games have TBD from companies I've never heard of really. Or just small developers. I counted about 70+ titles.

I checked it out, and looks like someone updated the list because those games are now gone. But its a bit of a heads up.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Take-Two on Wii

Requiem hasn't seen the Pierce Bronson James Bond films? Or Chronicles of Riddick?

Actually, I don't have any misgivings toward Judi for taking over the role of 'M', but she is definately better on 'As Time Goes By'. And I was expecting something more from her in Riddick. Thus ends my exposure to her work. I went looking for some young images of her, to no avail. Perhaps she is immortal, and always looks like she does

As for Take Two's news:

Seeing how the fruits of their laor won't be seen for 2 years, I could care less. I'll wait until they offer a solid piece of news.

Oh Tom Baker, I miss thee so. . . You are the one true Doctor for me.

Judi is all well and good on her little sitcom, but she isn't movie material. She's an ok 'M', and not a very convincing elemental.

Two images of the Wii version of Call of Duty 3 is available in EGM. They are small so not much detail is visible.  Not much detail is provided on gameplay as the 360 version is the main bulk of the article. Though it will be available on the Wii at launch. And multi-player has not been nailed down (please have online play).

Nothing else in the mag is interesting, even the rumor section is late to the party.

I have a soundtrack on my XBox that is nothing but 80's and I drive Burnout to it all the time. Even though there is a punk soundtrack already on it, I get tired of the same songs all the time.

But some games deserve a rockin' soundtrack, others do not. Can you imagine Mario with Megadeth or Korn?

INXS will never be the same without Michael Hutchence.

I haven't heard anything new from them. I've seen commercials for some TV show, but I don't watch TV very much. I suppose they could still be good, but they'll lack the sound that I found so appealing.

Dead Kennedy's, The Misfits, Circle Jerks, The Ramones, Rancid, Bad Religion, Daredevils. Lets get on our skateboards and ride!

The Police, The Cars, The Thompson Twins, Genisis, Cyndi Lauper, Till Tuesday, Jane Child, Tears For Fears, INXS, Billy Idol. Some great 80's stuff.

One more mention:  Foo Fighters. Awesome awesome awesome.

You can't blame Singer for taking the Superman movie. If it wasn't for the first Superman movie, he would have never made the first two X-Men movies. Fox is to blame on the quality of X-Men 3 (good or bad).

And comics to film has always been a crapshoot. The original Captain America that was never released, the first Punisher, Fantastic Four (either one), Incredible Hulk, Daredevil, Swamp Thing, ect . . .

But good ones seem to be unlikely ones - The Mask with Jim Carey, Men In Black, Conan took some inspiration from the comic along with the novels, others that I can't think of at the moment.

Superman Returns is supposed to wipe out Superman III and IV, taking place 5 or so years after Superman II, from what I hear. I'm looking forward to it. It is Bryan's dream job and I'm sure he is making it his baby.

Man, I'm with you guys on this 'no good rock since the mid 90s'. Some catchy songs, but nothing really innovative.

I love 80's music, love Def Leppard (80's), and I remember when Metallica was the farthest from mainstream you could get.

Now, I really like the Industrial stuff too, which so far hasn't seen any love here yet. And where is the Tool mention? Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Gravity Kills, Ministry, Catherine Wheel, Chemlab, Drown, KMFDM, and many others.

Anyone else like Lords Of Acid? I only have one album, but its awesome (the one with the devil chicks on the cover )

And I really got into the grunge scene, too. Nirvana blew my mind with Nevermind. Alice In Chains, Mudhoney, Guntruck, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, and every other band on the 'Singles' soundtrack.

Man, what happened to music in the past 6 or so years?

Oh yeah, need to give a shout out to Garbage. I saw them live, and they were spectacular.

Anybody know the whole story between Singer leaving for Superman and (actor that played)Cyclops leaving too?

The original Superman movie was the reason Bryan Singer got in the movie business. I do not have a link to that info, though I'm sure I read about it on IGN. So Bryan turned down X-Men 3 for Superman for obvious reasons. James Marsden just has a tremendous amount of respect for Bryan and was offered a job on Superman.

I recommend renting the game if possible. I heard it is really short and fairly easy to finish. I  have no desire to play the game and don't care enough about why Nightcrawler wasn't there. Or Gamefaqs.com will have the whole game outlined soon enough.

The final 20 seconds of the film after the credits was a surprise.  I totally forgot about the mentioning of the body at the beginning. But I figured something was up when he gave a smile and a wink.
