Piracy absolutely contributed to the demise of Dreamcast. Picture the year 2000, I'm a young sailor on board USS Hayler and we pull into a port in South America (Peru I recall) Long story not as long I buy 10 DC games plus the Freeloader disc for 40 US dollars if it was even that. Since the internet was a baby and I was on ship I had no Idea how games were sold over seas. So save for a few newer games that came out after Jan 2001, there wasn't a game I had that was an actual retail game sold through Sega.

I am currently on chapter 4 of "Shattered Empire: Journey to The Force Awakens" Its a comic that bridges the end of Jedi, starting with what happens right after the Battle of Endor to what I assume is the beginning of Episode VII. For those that don't know, this was also done between Episodes II & III with the original "Clone Wars"(Gennadiy Tartakovsky's verison ) Anyway, this is considered "Cannon" and should shed a few nuggets for those interested.

So I'm reading this and   Luke Force blocks a couple of thermal detonators right in to a whole squad of Imperials with NO HESITATION. Now I'm not stating Dark Path here but there appeared to be no remorse in his actions. As far as I can tell, Jedi don't really kill in droves and the prequels tended to face them against battle droids and the likes of some furious beast but not too many "men" fell at the hands of the Jedi.

The above is speculation based on facts and not anything I know for sure or have read

I always thought more than anything, Dreamcast failed due to its lackluster drive. If the DC had a DVD player built in, Sega XboX 360 might have come out 8 years ago and Shenmue 5 could be the 2015's big Holiday title.

Neither Dreamcast or Wii U had the opportunity to reach its full potential...opportunity is the wrong word. Wii U had years to shine and Nintendo mismanaged almost every aspect except it's  game library. I guess some light burn out faster than others. If Xenoblade Chronicles X is the last big Wii U release (quite possible) than its ironic. That was the game that people thought would "save the Wii U so long ago (Nintendo Direct  Jan 2013)

Dark. Very dark, but that is what Kilgrave deserves. Its funny how they show so much of her story in the trailer although if you don't know her character it kinda doesn't matter.  She'a a C/B tier superhero and they've made her very very interesting.

General Tarkin said something to the effects of the last remnants of the old republic have been swept away and Vader that was all that was left. Add 40 years and the fact that Palpatine intended to rule forever and yeah

History became legend, legend became myth and somethings that should not be forgotten were lost.

You know what really doesn't sit right with me? The new trailers, the factions, the designs. It's all just more of the same. All you need to make a good Star Wars trailer is a guy with a black mask and a red lightsaber, stormtroopers, tie fighters, x wings, and the Falcon. The Resistance and the First Order? The fact that NO ONE remembers what Jedi and Sith are? What is this, the galaxy where word of mouth circulates slower than Hyperspeed?

It's all the same notes as the older movies in an attempt to introduce a new audience. The problem is, EVERYONE HAS SEEN STAR WARS.

Maybe Kylo Ren and Rey are the new twins?

My prediction and (probably) possible spoiler - Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter, and Luke will die in the movie.

Not really a spoiler but to make make extra sure not to be a jerk about it.
Mark Hamil is already filming scenes for Episode 8 in Ireland. And rumor has it, so is Hayden Christensen.

Maybe Kylo is Han and Leia's son. And Han's reserved nature is based on him trying to save his son from the dark side. "Kylo Ren Solo, Grandson of Darth Vader"

I'm not a huge fan of Abrams either, but when you get handed a project like this, much like the Avengers, you have to put your heart and soul into making it a lovable movie. Abrams at least seems to understand the necessity of practical effects, even though the latest trailer implies anything but that. Seriously, we don't need to see what a Hyperspace Jump looks like in process. That cheapens the magic.

In any case, I'm tentatively interested.

We saw that in RotJ, it's not new.

That trailer was the best trailer I have ever seen that didn't also give away the entire movie. I hope there are no more trailers till after the movie comes out.       Fantastic!

Looks like somebody who grew up loving Star Wars made this film!!

Also, while Luke is not Kylo Ren, he may indeed be a bad guy of some sort, maybe a fallen Jedi.

Most definitely not a JJ fan. Man is a Hack Fraud.

I know his directing can be "fruity" (hard to explain what I mean but it makes sense in my head) but Mission Impossible 3 and Star Trek (2009) are the best in their respective franchises so I can't call him a "hack" per se.

Wish they used "EPISODE VII" and "THE FORCE AWAKENS" logo is still plain and awkwardly placed but tis still a good poster if not a little busy. Is that another Death Star? Maybe the rebels built one this time to keep the peace?

Well..

Speculation: Maybe the NX is an Oculus rift type device. People have been speculating and rumoring all Nintendo consoles to be Virtual reality headsets. Now is actually the time where it would be most likely. Having seen Star Wars Battlefront and Silent Hills the possibility of actual really awesome console virtual reality is possible.

An Oculus rift costs $350. A Wii U controller strapped to your face costs $90. Maybe Nintendo is one of the few companies able to get the price down.

Also note, Nintendo has been experimenting with the Wii U remote in this regard. The 3d videos, Nintendo land in some ways. The wii U already has all the tech to be a VR headset. It just isn't uncomfortably tethered to your face.

Nintendo as been anti-VR and pro-AR in the recent years. They tend to feel that AR is more socially and family friendly, while VR promotes isolation. As a father of 5, as shudder at the thought of how expensive that could be.

4 years ago all I wanted was a Nintendo Console powerful as a PS3 with a Wii Motion plus. I got that in Wii U. But Evan_B  is absolutely right, it never reached its full potential and its a shame it didn't.  Wii U could be in my top 5 consoles all time IF Zelda U and Star Fox actually come out and are solid releases, although I don't expect both games to show up. IF NX is at least as powerful as a PS4 ( and by next year how could it not be?) with a Netflix style game streaming service and the Trojan Horse of the untapped hybrid console market, I'll be cool.

194
OK. The reason I ask is that I assume you are more than disappointed with the Wii U (forgive me if I'm mistaken). I've never seen someone who owns a Wii U be very dissatisfied with their purchase. I like it more than most but I take issue with the idea that the system is a failure, but thats an issue for another thread.

BOT:

Nintendo Magic allows them to get "an hour out of 15 minutes" graphically (Mario Kart 8, Kirby Rainbow Curse ) I am excited to see what they can do with top notch (relatively) hardware.

195
Evan, do you have a Wii U?

196
NX rumors thread!

197
Oh sure, the only comment anyone cares about in my post is how the Wii U is a complete failure- which it is. The "Games of the Year" on other consoles are in genres that the Wii U simply doesn't have. I'd be interested to hear what games you DO think are GOTY quality from the Wii U's lifespan, too- what did Wii U have in 2013? Pikmin 3? The Wonderful 101? 2014, maybe I can give you, with Bayonetta 2.

You're right about 2013 (although 3DWorld is solid and Lego City and Wonderful 101 is outstanding). The first year of a console is never the best year. PS4 is just starting to catch Wii U in terms of software and has yet to leave it in the dust .

Star Fox Zero, Zelda U and possibly Retro's game are all Hybrid NX/U games.

198
I don't get the disbelief at this news. Is it the Nintendo using latest chipset or is it the hybrid console / Handheld  concept? Although not graphics wise but Nintendo has always been at the forefront of game technology.

I wanted a 2 hour animated Hyrule Historia to be included, this was very random.

If Dev kits are going out today(or close to today) to people, can that really mean the console is launching in 2016? Can you make a game for the NX in a year?

I would think that you could if you moved development from Wii U to NX. Don't know why but I don't think Nintendo is moving to X86 chipset and this still a IBM chip. In that, context you could launch in 2016 summer with a decent lineup, no one expects a summer launch but in 2016 you can launch electronics basically at anytime.
