TalkBack / Readers, Contribute to NWR's Midyear 2016 Hype Meter
« on: June 24, 2016, 11:08:03 AM »

E3 is over so it's time for another Hype Meter!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/42906/readers-contribute-to-nwrs-midyear-2016-hype-meter

Nintendo may have had a light E3 this year but we still learned about some upcoming games. Now that the dust has settled, we here at Nintendo World Report felt that it was a good time to gauge reader interest in all the upcoming titles coming to Nintendo platforms.

For those who are unfamiliar, the NWR Hype Meter is meant to bring back those feelings many of us used to get when looking over Nintendo Power's most wanted games list. Like Nintendo Power, we need your help in figuring out what Nintendo games, and more, are the most wanted. Once the results are in we will post them in a big Feature here on the site.

So what do you need to do? Send us a list of your most wanted Nintendo things. This can include both first and third party games, hardware, Amiibo, etc. The list should be between five and ten titles in length with your most hyped game being ranked one, and the least hyped at ten.

Your submissions can be sent to: hype@nintendoworldreport.com

The last day for submissions will be July 4th, but the sooner you contribute the better. Thanks for helping and we hope to share the results with you in the near future!

TalkBack / New Samus Statue Available for Pre-order
« on: May 10, 2016, 07:23:00 AM »

Inspired by her design in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/42670/new-samus-statue-available-for-pre-order

A new statue based on the Varia Suit Samus model from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is now available for pre-order from First 4 Figures. Two versions of the 1/4 scale statue are being produced.

Both versions are 20 inches tall and have Samus standing on the S logo from the series. The Exclusive version, only available from the First 4 Figures website, has many LEDs built into the figure to give it an authentic from the game look and costs $429.99. The standard version of the statue lacks the LEDs found in the exclusive version and costs $384.99. Both statues will have their edition size determined in two weeks and are scheduled to ship in Q1 2017. Those interested should get their pre-orders in now for low numbers and to guarantee availability.

If you're looking for a discount then you can take advantage of two different coupon codes. The code VARIAEX30 will take $30 off the price of the Exclusive version, and the code VARIAREG20 will knock $20 off the price of the standard statue.

Varia Suit Samus is the second in the Metroid Prime 1/4 scale line and will go nicely with the previously released Light Suit Samus statue. People who have been fans of First 4 Figures for a long time will notice that they released a smaller scale Metroid Prime version of Varia Suit Samus back in 2007.

TalkBack / Link's Gender Doesn't Matter
« on: April 14, 2016, 06:26:58 AM »

I thought about the importance of the Link character and came to some conclusions.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/42541/links-gender-doesnt-matter

By now I'm sure most readers of the site have heard about the latest rumor in regards to the new installment of The Legend of Zelda series coming to Wii U: that players will have the option to choose between a male or female incarnation of Link. If true, this means for the first time in a main installment of the Zelda series that the player will be able to play as a female Link. I've already seen some people complaining about the possibility of Link being female in this game, but does Link's gender really matter?

When we look back at the character of Link we know he was initially designed to be the player's "link" to the magical land of Hyrule. Very little importance has been placed on Link's own character, making him more of a blank slate for players to fill with their own feelings. The proof for this is the fact that players are given the option to name Link whatever they want at the start of every Zelda game.

As a blank slate, Link's own personality and feelings have hardly been explored throughout the series. Sure, we know the hero has a background of being a reborn soul that tries to muster up the courage to do what's best for the people of his land. But aside from that, and some in game facial reactions, we don't know much about Link as a character. We aren't supposed to fit him into a defined box because, deep down, Link is supposed to be part of us.

Unfortunately for many, the "us" Link has represented over the franchise's 30 year history has been a male. With more women playing video games than ever, now is a great time to allow for a choice. In fact, a female version of Link known as Linkle has just been introduced to the Zelda spinoff game, Hyrule Warriors Legends. So this idea isn't that far fetched outside of the rumor.

Does adding the female option for Link hurt the series at all? No. Those that know about the Zelda series are aware that the storyline takes place over hundreds of years and that a new Link is reborn as the hero, though sharing the same soul, across the multiple Zelda stories. So why would having a version of Link born female hurt the Zelda story? The only way I can see it being an issue is if Link's specific gender plays into the plot. If that's important for any reason then the developers could remove gender choice from that particular game.

I'm not advocating that the old Zelda games get remade to include a female Link option; I think that would be wrong from a historical standpoint. Also because there have been some love interests for the male Link in various Zelda titles. These haven't been fully explored in past games plots, but changing Link's gender in those games could ruin original intent which, again, I'd rather preserve.

One other point I'd like to bring up is that the female version of Link could be implemented in interesting ways. What if the female Link is in fact Linkle and plays much differently than Link while utilizing her crossbows instead of Link's typical sword and shield? Or what if both Link and Linkle coexist in the same game, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, and the player can choose who they want to use at various points? There are multiple possibilities.

Overall, being given the option to choose Link's gender in the game and building the world around either choice is something worth embracing since it could open the Zelda series up to a more diverse group of players who want their "link" to Hyrule to be a character who more closely represents themselves. If you still have a problem with it, suck it up, pick the traditional male version of Link, and enjoy the Zelda franchise as you always have. This way everybody wins.

TalkBack / Zelda: Skyward Sword Diorama Now Available For Pre-order
« on: March 29, 2016, 11:37:36 AM »

First 4 Figures is at it again with another premium Nintendo collectible.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/42398/zelda-skyward-sword-diorama-now-available-for-pre-order

A new diorama based on a memorable battle in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is now available for pre-order from First 4 Figures. The diorama features Link battling Scervo on the edge of the Sandship.

Those who follow Nintendo collectables might recognize the Link and Scervo figures present in this diorama. That's because they've been available at GameStop for several months now. The figures in the diorama are exactly the same and thus made out of PVC instead of the typical polystone from other pieces from First 4 Figures. The new addition to the collection, the Sandship base, is made of polystone.

Because the Link and Scervo figures have been available for months, and at the time of this writing are still available from GameStop online (here and here), two versions of the diorama are being offered.

The first version comes with both the Link and Scervo figures as well as the Sandship base for a price of $349.99 USD. The other version includes only the Sandship base, for those that already purchased the figures, and costs $199.99 USD. The Sandship base measures 20" x 11" x 8" itself, but with both figures on comes to 20" x 11" x 15". The edition size of the base is limited and will be determined in two weeks. Both versions are scheduled to ship during Q3 2016.

The full version can be pre-ordered here, and the base only model can be pre-ordered here.

TalkBack / NWR's Zelda: Twilight Princess Coverage
« on: March 04, 2016, 04:45:33 AM »

We take a look back at our Twilight Princess reviews and RFN's Twilight Princess Retroactive on the title.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/42031/nwrs-zelda-twilight-princess-coverage

This year we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series. In order to celebrate, or perhaps by dumb coincidence, Nintendo is re-releasing The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii U with new HD visuals. That said, NWR was around to cover this title when it was first released 10 years ago.

Since The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD is, largely, the same game as its original versions with a new coat of paint, we figured it would be a good idea to share our old coverage of the title with our readers. So below you will see links to various reviews, and thoughts on Twilight Princess over the years from Nintendo World Report. We hope reaching into our archive gives you a better idea of what to expect with this title if you've never experienced it before, or to help you decide if it's worth picking up and playing through again on Wii U. Enjoy!

Yeah I made a video years ago which you can find on my own YouTube Channel that compares some of the different sticks and points out the problems with various brands I've acquired. They aren't 100% accurate and some aren't even the correct colors.

I also made an instructional video showing people how to lubricate the control stick pieces to make the parts last longer. If you plan to use a N64 stick I highly suggest you do this.

As someone who has deeply studied the problems with Nintendo 64 Control Sticks I have too many concerns about this project that keep me from backing it. I'd really need to see a set of their finished products in hand in order to decide if it's worth it, which is unfortunate. Also if those black gears aren't a part of it then many people will still be out of luck since those wear down on multiple points of contact adding to the problem of the worn down stick and bowl.

We celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise by sharing our fondest memories of the series.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/41951/poke-memories

It's hard to believe that the Pokémon franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It seems like just yesterday that I was battling my way through Pokémon Blue, watching the TV series, and collecting, trading, and playing the Pokémon TCG. Since the launch of the series the Pokémon universe has expanded several times and managed to become a global phenomenon.

In order to celebrate this anniversary we here at Nintendo World Report are sharing our fondest memories of the series. So click through the following pages to see what Pokémon moments really stuck with each of us. Then we encourage our readers to share their memories in the Talkback section below.

TalkBack / Star Fox Arwing Statues Now Available for Pre-order
« on: February 16, 2016, 05:58:49 AM »

Time to do a barrel roll because First4Figures has launched their Star Fox line.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/41940/star-fox-arwing-statues-now-available-for-pre-order

A new limited edition Star Fox Arwing statue is now available for pre-order from First4Figures. The Arwing is modeled off the version seen in Star Fox 64 and comes in two different versions.

The first version is the Exclusive variant that can only be obtained from the manufacturer's website. What makes this one special is that the Arwing's engine has a purple LED that can be turned on giving it that extra wow factor. The exclusive variant is being sold for $299.99. Those looking for a slight discount can enter the coupon code "ARWINGEX20" for $20.00 off this version.

The other version is the Standard edition. This is the same as the Exclusive version except it does not include the light up engine. This variant goes for $279.99.

On their stand both versions are 12" inches tall by 12" deep by 18" wide, making it a decently sized piece. These are the first in the Star Fox line from First4Figures so low edition numbers will be handed out on a first come first served basis. Additionally, the edition size of both versions has yet to be determined, but when the initial pre-orders close in two weeks a final number will be decided. So Star Fox fans better hurry if they want to guarantee themselves one of these collectibles.

TalkBack / Nintendo Badge Arcade (3DS) Review
« on: December 28, 2015, 03:39:40 AM »

If you have a gambling problem, you should probably stay away from this game.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/41697/nintendo-badge-arcade-3ds-review

Over the course of the year I saw many people I know with imported 3DS units talk about Collectable Badge Center, the Japanese version of Nintendo Badge Arcade. Then late one night, to my surprise, the "free" title was released here in North America. I immediately dove in.

Upon booting up the title, users are brought in to the seedy underworld that is the Nintendo Badge Arcade. It is here where one of Nintendo's cute but dastardly sales rabbits show up, a dead giveaway to Nintendo fans that this guy is out to take your real world money. Like a drug dealer, the rabbit will introduce players to the game and offer up a few free sample plays.

Basically, Nintendo Badge Arcade lets players try to win Nintendo themed badges from a plethora of different crane machines that rotate out every few days. I've seen three different styles of "claws" and countless different badge sets that come from various Nintendo franchises. These badges can then be used to decorate a user's 3DS Home Menu screen or placed on folders. Some badges can even work in place of the traditional system application icons. In this sense, Nintendo Badge Arcade blurs the line between game and application.

After a player’s initial free plays are up, they will learn that it's possible to earn more plays by succeeding at a practice crane machine that can be used once daily. Players can earn a free play by collecting 10 practice badges, or by earning a random bonus for obtaining these badges. I've found that I usually will earn one free play a day, but I have been lucky and earned up to five at once. There have also been times I've earned none.

If you don't earn any from practice, that's OK. Sometimes, during special promotions, the rabbit will offer players one free play. If you still haven't had your fix, the sales rabbit will then let you know you can purchase more plays. The going rate is five plays, or grabs, for US$1.00.

When you look at what's going on in Nintendo Badge Arcade, you will see how it's going all out to use psychological warfare on your mind. The rabbit tries to suck you in daily with frequent free plays. These plays make the harder, and usually more popular badges easier to obtain. However, in order to get them the player will need to start spending money otherwise the machine will reset the next day.

This whole system continues to build on itself. Since the machines are swapped out frequently, you may see that one that you like only has two days left, or worse, is on its final day. There is no promise these will ever return. Additionally, Nintendo Badge Arcade let's players view dioramas of each badge set they've completed, and what percentage of each series of badges they have collected. Also, a statue levels up based off of how many badges have been collected.

The problem with all of this is that the game really tries to scare you into spending more money to earn these badges. It wouldn't be so bad, but the going rate of five tries for $1.00 is incredibly steep. For the price of a few plays you could just buy a Virtual Console title instead. Every now and then players who do spend money can earn exclusive 3DS themes, but the sad part is that these themes don't have music like the premium ones that can be purchased directly from the 3DS Theme Shop.

One other problem I have with all of these badges and themes is that we have no idea if all of these earned goods will be useful in the future. Nintendo hasn't been clear if these items will somehow transfer to the next Nintendo platform, adding to the question, are these goods are even worth it?

Nintendo Badge Arcade is the type of software I'd expect to be released a few years ago for free. It just seems like the perfect additional application that could make use of 3DS Play Coins instead of real world money. The badges themselves don't really serve much of a purpose. How many people truly want to decorate their 3DS home menu screen? The best use I've found is to place Game Boy system badges, or a Famicom badge, on folders where I keep games for those respective platforms.

The major redeeming quality of Nintendo Badge Arcade is the writing. Some days the rabbit will have new things to say that are surprisingly witty. Nintendo proves to be extremely aware in what the rabbit says, often times referencing things from pop culture, the company's history, and often will promote upcoming Nintendo games, events, and promotions in funny ways. It's enough to make players want to check in each day to see what is said, but that starts the cycle of wanting to earn those rare badges all over again by maybe spending money.

I'd be lying if I said Nintendo Badge Arcade wasn't addictive; it was clearly designed that way. That said, this is the most disgustingly blatant, money grabbing game Nintendo has ever released. I really don't want to see more pieces of software like this from the company. Deep down, it just seems completely evil in the way it tires to mess with your psyche in order to get players to hand over cash for basically nothing.

TalkBack / Readers, Contribute to the NWR Hype Meter 2016 Preview
« on: December 09, 2015, 03:00:31 AM »

The Hype Meter is back and needs your help.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/41619/readers-contribute-to-the-nwr-hype-meter-2016-preview

A few months ago we asked our readers to help contribute to a new type of feature. The response was fantastic, and we are once again asking for your contribution.

For those who may have missed it the first time, the feature is called the the NWR Hype Meter. It's meant to bring back those feelings many of us used to get when looking over Nintendo Power's most wanted games list. Like Nintendo Power, we need your help in figuring out what Nintendo games and more are the most wanted. This edition of the Hype Meter will also help serve as a preview for what's to come in 2016.

The last day for submissions will be Dec. 25, but the sooner you contribute the better. Thanks for helping and we hope to share the results with you in the near future!

TalkBack / Nintendo Direct Predictions for Nov. 12, 2015
« on: November 11, 2015, 03:20:55 AM »

The King Nintendo Fanboy shares his predictions for one of the most wanted Nintendo Directs.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/41460/nintendo-direct-predictions-for-nov-12-2015

We haven’t really heard much from Nintendo outside of press releases since the company’s Digital Event back at E3 last June. In the time that has passed, we’ve seen the loss of a great leader from within Nintendo, and have had some bad news regarding delays. Sure, there have been some fantastic games released, but the Nintendo Direct format has been in a major drought.

Fans have been clamoring for a new Nintendo Direct for months, and it’s finally happening on Thursday. So today I’m going to share my predictions of what we can expect.

The Nintendo Direct format was the brainchild of Satoru Iwata, and now that he is no longer with us, everyone is wondering how the format will change. Nintendo’s new President, Tatsumi Kimishima, has always come off as a more private and less social person than Iwata. I say this from the perspective of both the man keeping very quiet while he was the President of Nintendo of America, and from my personal observations while seeing Kimishima at several E3 events. With that said, I highly doubt he will make any appearance during the presentation.

So what’s going to happen? I think each region will have their own host for the Direct. We now know that Japan’s Direct will be hosted by Mr. Morimoto, North America’s will likely be hosted by Reggie Fils-Aime, and Europe’s will probably be run by Satoru Shibata. While these hosts may transition to different parts of the Direct, it wouldn’t surprise me if Nintendo let the people behind the development of each title mentioned do most of the talking. So expect regional dates and information to be discussed by the host, with deeper game details and information to be talked about by game developers.

I think the Direct will take some time to discuss some of the games Nintendo views as a big part of their Holiday lineup that have already been released. I’m talking about  brief mentions of Super Mario Maker, Yo-Kai Watch, Yoshi’s Woolly World (in North America), and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer. Then I suspect we will be treated to a more in depth explanation of the remaining Holiday titles coming from Nintendo. Titles like Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, and maybe Devil’s Third. I don’t expect many, if any, surprise announcements coming from these titles except maybe being told about some new Super Mario Maker Event stages.

So what are the big guns we could hear about? First, lets start with the DLC. It’s been a long time since we’ve had Super Smash Bros. DLC, so I think it’s a no brainier that we will hear about up to three new characters coming to Smash Bros. the day of the Direct. What characters? My guess is Wolf, an Inkling, and hopefully for my sake, the Ice Climbers! OK fine, maybe the Ice Climbers are just something I refuse to let go of, but I can’t give up on my previous Smash Bros. mains making a comeback. I expect some new stages and Mii costumes as well.

The next major DLC I think we will hear about is for Splatoon. I’m not just talking about a few new weapons here, I mean some real DLC. Maybe a new online mode or two and the ability to play as Octolings. Additionally, we could walk away with a new short Octoling campaign. Can you think of a better way to breathe more life into Nintendo’s newest smash hit IP? I can’t.

We also have to hear something about Star Fox Zero. It may not be released until next year, but Nintendo owes their fans a greater explanation as to why. What’s being added or worked on now? My guess is some sort of online mode and Amiibo support. That’s right, I wouldn’t be surprised if Star Fox Zero released with a full range of Star Fox character and vehicle Amiibo. We may not learn what their functionality will be, something needs to be saved for an early 2016 Direct, but we will see them in all their glory.

Speaking of Amiibo, we will likely learn about the western release dates for the rest of the Amiibo in the Animal Crossing figure line, and maybe when we can expect to see the second series of Amiibo cards make their way outside of Japan. Nintendo may even go as far as to tell us when the next set of Smash Bros. Amiibo including Lucas, Roy, and Ryu will hit store shelves. Oh yeah, and that 8-Bit Modern Mario will also be sold exclusively at Walmart stores before the end of the year in the United States.

Miyamoto’s Project Guard will likely be discussed in detail during the Direct. Nintendo recently listed this title for a 2015 release, and I think it will be up on the eShop following the Direct. Yeah, it’s probably taking the NES Remix route.

At the end of the presentation we will probably be told to look forward to Zelda Wii U in 2016. No trailers or screens at all. However, they have done something to help Zelda fans deal with the wait. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will be available to download on Wii U that day with a physical release coming in early 2016.

So there you have it, my Nintendo Direct predictions. Am I insane, or on the money? Let me know and share your own Nintendo Direct predictions in the Talkback thread below.

TalkBack / Can Nintendo Save Their Holiday Lineup?

With Star Fox Zero delayed, can Nintendo do anything to save their holiday lineup?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/41380/can-nintendo-save-their-holiday-lineup

Last month Nintendo revealed that their big gun this holiday, Star Fox Zero, has been delayed into 2016. That really left the company with a gaping hole in their November home console lineup, which is when they usually release their biggest game of the year. Now taking up that big holiday spot is a new version of Mario Tennis which, from early reports, sounds like a letdown. Even with these setbacks, is it possible for Nintendo to save their holiday lineup?

I think the answer is both yes and no. From one perspective, Nintendo isn’t going to be saving their current hardware lines by releasing a game that instantly changes the current sales trends of the Wii U and 3DS. From this point of view, I don’t think Star Fox Zero would have done much for the Wii U sales this holiday season. At this point in time those with Nintendo’s home console are likely already big Nintendo fans and Star Fox Zero, a lesser known franchise, would be unlikely to sell more hardware to those who don’t already own a Wii U.

The fixable problem Nintendo faces this holiday season is making sure their fans, the people who have already invested in a Wii U and 3DS, have enjoyable software to play. On this front I do think, even with the absence of Star Fox Zero, Nintendo can save the holiday for their fans. However, a few things need to happen.

First, let’s talk about Zelda. Earlier this year the latest entry in the Legend of Zelda series, which was scheduled to appear on Wii U this holiday season, was also delayed into 2016. This meant that Zelda fans were left with no new title to play on Nintendo’s home console in 2015. That being said, rumors have been going around about an HD re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Wii U. While we haven’t officially heard anything about the game, this could be a great surprise release for the platform later this year.

The next piece of the puzzle that may allow Nintendo to help save the holiday for their fans is a piece of software we haven’t heard anything about since E3 2014. That’s right, I’m talking about Project Guard, one of Miyamoto’s upcoming titles that is meant to bring more relevance to the Wii U GamePad. Project Guard is very mysterious at this point, but Nintendo’s latest release lineup, published yesterday as part of their Supplementary Information about their Earning Release, states that this game is still due out in 2015. This might be nothing but an oversight, but a cool Miyamoto inspired eShop title could end up being a fun late year surprise for Nintendo fans.

Moving on to what I consider the most important thing that Nintendo needs to focus on in order to make their fans happy this holiday season is all about treating their biggest games as services with great updates. Nintendo has talked about doing this before, and the company could really make a splash if several of their already released Wii U titles get great updates. Super Mario Maker already has additional content releasing next week, but maybe even more could be added by the end of the year. A friends list in that game would be nice, but there are other games that need great content updates as well.

The biggest game, which has been getting several paid DLC updates throughout the year, is Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS. New playable characters haven’t been added to the game since June, so it’s very likely that we will see something before the end of 2015. I think a nice Smash Bros. update released in November could cause a big splash amongst Nintendo’s biggest fans. Imagine three to five new characters, several stages, and more. Although rabid Smash Bros. fans may never be fully satisfied, the general fanbase would be thrilled and Nintendo could easily profit off this update as well.

Then there is Nintendo’s newest IP, Splatoon. A November update could add playable Octolings, new weapons, modes, and maybe another short campaign that allows players to experience the Octoling side of the story. Nintendo has been treating Splatoon as an ongoing service from the start and updates like the ones I mentioned here would go a long way in helping the title to stay fresh.

In conclusion, Nintendo probably wasn’t going to save the holidays for their existing pieces of hardware in a traditional sense even with Star Fox Zero. However, Nintendo could wind up pleasing their fans despite the major delays by releasing a few surprising pieces of software and by adding additional content to their existing games that will increase the longevity and playability of several of their most popular titles. Now the real question now is, will Nintendo do it? I hope so, but the ball is in their court.

TalkBack / A Good Case of the Plague
« on: October 27, 2015, 05:29:52 AM »

The King Nintendo Fanboy shares his thoughts on the Shovel Knight expansion.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/41368/a-good-case-of-the-plague

Shovel Knight was one of the games I was looking forward to most last year. As far as I'm concerned, the title delivered and it even made my list of top games for 2014. With that said, I still didn't seem to worship the game as much as my fellow staffers here on Nintendo World Report.

I was excited about the recently added campaign known as Plague of Shadows that added the additional playable character Plague Knight. At first I found Plague Knight a little unwieldy, but after a short while I learned that this character is amazing. In all honestly, playing as Plague Knight has made the Shovel Knight experience even better.

After you master Plague Knight’s abilities you will learn how to abuse the movement and jumping system in exciting ways. As players make their way through the adventure even more movement options become available.

Additionally, Plague Knight generally relies on projectiles to attack. More projectiles also become available for the character as the game progresses and these differences can even be combined in many ways on the fly. This gives Plague of Shadows more of a Mega Man feel, and it's awesome. There is almost always a great weapon combination for each situation.

Not only is playing as Plague Knight more fun, but the character is better than Shovel Knight too. He has way more personality and his quest, which compliments the story seen in Shovel Knight's adventure, is much more interesting.

I know there are a lot of rumors going around about Shovel Knight being added to the Super Smash Bros. roster. I personally don't think a third party character this fresh deserves to be in Nintendo's all-star mascot fighter. However, if Shovel Knight does make it in I'll be even more upset because Plague Knight deserves the honor even more than that shovel-wielding freak!

Overall, Plague of Shadows is worth checking out and it too could change how you feel about the Shovel Knight gaming experience as a whole. Honestly, I enjoyed it so much that I don't know if I'll ever want to play through the adventure as Shovel Knight again. I can't wait to see what other playable characters Yacht Club games adds to the experience. Until then, long live Plague Knight!

TalkBack / Designing a Metroid Game Within Super Mario Maker
« on: September 29, 2015, 01:23:03 PM »

The King Nintendo Fanboy decided that it wasn't enough to make a simple stage.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/41232/designing-a-metroid-game-within-super-mario-maker

It's no secret that Super Mario Maker is the game I've been waiting all year for. I love Mario and I've always wanted to try making levels in a game. So after doing one simple stage, I decided to do something more complex for my second. I attempted to recreate the original Metroid within Super Mario Maker to the best of my ability. I call the end result Metroid: Negative Mission.

This Feature is broken up into several parts. At first I describe the stage structure to hopefully give you a better idea as to what my design process was like. Then I discuss the lessons that I learned while designing this micro adventure. After that I describe the satisfaction that can come from making a good stage. For Metroid fans, I also point out some of the many hidden references in this stage. Finally, I have a little guide that tells players about all the secrets that can be found within the stage.

I highly recommend playing the stage before continuing, but if you can't here is a video of someone playing though it for context.

Metroid Negative Mission (3.0)

Level Code: DD27-0000-0072-EBA3

(I also came up with this instruction manual for the adventure too.)
