Nintendo didn't forget about Zelda fans that already own a Wii U.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35295

GameStop will be offering a Ganondorf figure with certain physical copies of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.

This figure is going to be bundled in the game's packaging and is likely limited edition. This special bundle does have a premium cost of $54.99, five dollars more than the standard edition.

It is likely, though unconfirmed, that the Ganondorf figure is the same one shown in a European trailer for the bundle in that region. A picture of the European bundle, including their Ganondorf figure, is what is pictured on this page.

The two big year-end first party Wii U titles swap release months and DK has a fantastic price.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35292

Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze have been given North American release dates. Super Mario 3D World will be meowing its way into stores on November 22 for $59.99. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will swing into retailers on December 6 for $49.99.

Interesting to note is that these games have both swapped places in Nintendo's original holiday release lineup. Super Mario 3D World was originally slated for December and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was going to be November's game. Also fascinating is the fact that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is being sold at $10 less than standard Wii U titles.

TalkBack / Zelda: Wind Waker HD-Themed Wii U Hardware Coming Soon
« on: August 23, 2013, 11:43:58 PM »

Zelda fans won't be able to resist this GamePad.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35263

A new Zelda: The Wind Waker HD-themed Wii U will be hitting store shelves soon. This hardware package will include a Wii U GamePad decorated with Zelda-inspired artwork, similar to the Zelda 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Nintendo 3DS.

This information comes from a leaked video from Nintendo, which details The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD’s Hero mode, as well as shows an image of this new piece of hardware.

It’s likely, though unconfirmed, that this hardware is part of the rumored Wind Waker HD Hardware bundle that we reported on earlier this week.

Further details are currently unknown, and the video has since been removed.

Check out some of the Nintendo swag of E3 2013.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35251

For those who don’t know, I’m a pretty big Nintendo Fanboy. I collect just about anything that says Nintendo on it including games, merchandise, memorabilia and more. Here I am again taking over the Mariobilia feature for Andrew.

All the items this week are from Nintendo's booth at E3 earlier this year. Not every item shown here was exclusive to the event, so it wouldn't surprise me if some readers were able to get some of these things elsewhere. Additionally, I wasn't able to get every item handed out by Nintendo at E3, but I do discuss what I, sadly, missed.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 98: Cross-Platform Play
« on: August 16, 2013, 05:50:33 PM »

Listener Mail, Animal Crossing after 100 hours, and an argument for the Vita on this week's show.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/connectivity/35209

Welcome to this special episode of Connectivity. We are proud to announce that, starting this week, we are introducing cross-platform capabilities to our podcasts. What does this mean for you? Read on to learn more!

We open this week's show with Scott, Danny, and Patrick answering some listener mail. The trio discuss the future of Mario RPG's, why Miiverse is relatively troll-free, playing 3DS games on Wii U, and what series needs to take a break for a while. While you enjoy this segment, you'll notice a new feature. Thanks to our new cross-platform infrastructure, you'll find that you can download this podcast to any of your devices. That's right! PC, Mac, iPhone, Android device; feel free to download this episode on virtually anything. Revolutionary!

Next up, Alex and Justin discuss life in Animal Crossing after 100 hours. The duo discuss their immaculate towns, goals in the late-game, and where New Leaf fits amongst the others in the series. Thanks once again to our new cross-platform cloud system, you can also rest easy knowing that you are free to start this segment on one device and finish it on another (some fast forwarding may be required). How convenient!

Closing out the show, Neal, J.P. and Patrick discuss the merits of the Vita and whether or not there is place for it in the homes and backpacks of fervent 3DS owners. The guys go in-depth with the Vita's hardware and software, so if you've been curious about it, this is the segment for you. Unfortunately, we haven't worked out all the kinks with our cross-platform system, so this segment inexplicably might not run on newer devices, despite being available on their progenitors for years. Hey, we aren't perfect here!

Be sure to click here to send us your listener mail. We love hearing from you guys, so keep it coming! 98 episodes in the can, how wild. Wonder what we'll do for 100...

All the items in this week's journal come from the Nintendo World Store in NYC.

I stopped by the Nintendo World Store again recently, so my wallet is much lighter. In any case I was able to stock up on a ton of cool Nintendo shirts, candy, promos, cards, a plush, and more. Nintendo World is a great store, but it's probably for the best that I don't live in New York City. Enjoy!

I happen to enjoy the music in this game. I find that it's extremely easy to space out and enter a trance-like state when playing Cloudberry Kingdom (in a good way). The music complements this very well.

I'd love to teach you about the X Series...well the first three anyway. After X3 is started to get bad. (Also make sure you play X3 on SNES, it's way better than any other version Capcom has shitted out).

I feel like the GamePlay in the classic series is about mastering limited movements and making the right choice within those limits. The X series on the other hand is much faster paced and gives the player a lot more freedom of movement.

The economy is doomed.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34909

An item duplication glitch has been discovered in Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

This glitch requires two players and an Internet connection. The steps are as follows:

(NOTE: Nintendo World Report and/or the author are not responsible for any damage done to your game or save file. Do this at your own risk.)

  1. Have the first player open up their town to friends over the Internet. This player will be known as the host.
  2. The second player, the visitor, should grab the item(s) they wish to duplicate and then travel to the host town.
  3. Once the visitor arrives in the host town, they should drop all the items they wish to duplicate on the ground.
  4. The host then needs to press start and select End The Multiplayer Session.
  5. Once the session is ending, the visitor needs to physically flick the switch on their 3DS's Wi-Fi to off at the right time when their game is saving. (Note: The host doesn't disconnect their Wi-Fi.)

The timing in which the visitor needs to disconnect in step five supposedly varies depending on latency from, according to people I've talked to. I've had the most success switching it off as the save wheel is about at its first half rotation on the visitors 3DS. Others have told me they have had the best results at one full rotation.

Here are some tips in case you are having trouble:

  • If the visitor disconnects their Wi-Fi too early both the host and visitor will get a Resetti error message.

  • If the visitor disconnects too late only the visitor will have the Resetti error message. Once the game restarts itself the item will no longer be in the visitors pocket but it will still be on the ground in the host town.

  • If done correctly only the visitor will have the Resetti error. Upon recovering from this error the visitor will find they are back in their town with all the items they left with, basically reverting the to their previous save. The host, having saved his game properly, will have the item(s) the visitor dropped still sitting in their town.

TalkBack / Nintendo World Report's Classic Mega Man 10K
« on: July 26, 2013, 11:58:02 AM »

Our NY/NJ crew is getting together on July 27 to live stream some Mega Man games.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/34879

With the 3DS being a haven for Mega Man's NES years, a lot of the Nintendo World Report staff has been reliving our childhoods (or trying to see what everyone else's childhoods were like). So, it seemed like a fun idea to get together, play some Mega Man games, and share it with the Internet. On Saturday July 27, we will be getting together to play a variety of Mega Man games and some other mildly relevant games. And since it's not really a marathon (we'll only play, at most, 4 Mega Man games), we decided to call it a 10K.

Who?: Neal Ronaghan (Director), Justin Berube (Staff Writer), Jared Rosenberg (Video Producer), Josh Max (Staff Writer), Alex and Tony Wanschura (Contributors), and Joe Patnick (Former NWR Programmer; Neal's housemate)

What?: We are playing Mega Man games, mostly from his NES days. We'll also dabble into some weird competitions of Mega Man Soccer, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and F-Zero X (or GX)

When?: Saturday July 27 beginning at 2 p.m. ET and running until around 8 p.m. ET. See below for the full schedule.

Where?: Check the embedded video below when the day comes, or check us out on Twitch.

If everything is nice, we'll take call-ins over Skype. We will update with more details if we do this.

Schedule (Times Are Estimates, As Game Time May Vary)

  • 2 p.m. ET - Opening and Playing Mega Man 2
  • 3:30 p.m. ET - F-Zero Tourney to determine whether we play Mega Man 3, 4, 5, or 6 next.
  • 4 p.m. ET - Begin Game #2
  • 5:30 p.m. ET - Play a short Mega Man Soccer tourney (because why the hell not?)
  • 6:30 p.m. ET - Super Smash Bros. Melee multiplayer tournament to determine whether we play Mega Man X, 9, 10, or the second place finisher from the earlier F-Zero tourney.
  • 7 p.m. ET - Begin Game #3

Star Fox 64 folders, Pit and Dark Pit figures, Pokémon goods and more can be seen this week.

This week's journal once again contains some random Pokémon merchandise. Seriously, it's so easy to find cheap Pokémon stuff, and there is a lot of it. Some of the coolest items shown in this week's video are Star Fox 64 folders which I obtained from a friend who had them in storage. The highlight this week is, without a doubt, the Pit and Dark Pit Figma figures which I imported from Japan. Enjoy!

Update: Nintendo reverses its position and Smash Bros. will still be streamed.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34872

Update (7/9 8:34 P.M. PDT): Nintendo has officially reversed its position on the preventing the stream of Super Smash Bros., as reported by a notice on SRK:

"I’ve just receive[d] word from Nintendo that the Evo Smash Bros. Melee stream will be allowed to proceed. We will be restoring the original stream and tournament schedules. Obviously this is a huge reli[ef] for all of us here and we’re thrilled that the world will get to see the best Smash players fight it out this weekend. Thanks to everyone online who supported both Evo and Smash."

The original article is below:

Nintendo of America has informed Evo that they do not have permission to stream their upcoming Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament over the Internet.

As a result Evo has changed their live streaming schedule to include different, non-Nintendo, titles.

Evo is a major annual gaming tournament that holds contests in a variety of popular fighting games. Initially Super Smash Bros. Melee wasn’t going to be part of Evo 2013, however Evo held an online vote to help determine what the final game in their 2013 tournament series would be.

Those participating were able to cast their vote by donating money to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, of which Melee won with a total of $94,683. The total amount donated for all games in the voting was $225,744.

I'd love to see these in a photo format.  I just don't have the attention span to watch a full video...

I used to do a photo blog when I wrote for RipTen. The problem was that it took even more time than doing videos since I collected so much stuff. I really had to shift it to a video format in the interest of time.

For those who don’t know, I’m a pretty big Nintendo Fanboy. I collect just about anything that says Nintendo on it including games, merchandise, memorabilia and more. Here I am again taking over the Mariobilia feature for Andrew.

This week's journal has a mix of items. Some old Nintendo Player's Guides, a Mario T-shirt, newly released Mario figures, and some Japanese Pokémon books. The Japanese Pokémon books were given to me by a friend who I assumed got them in Japan. I can't read Japanese but they appear to be promoting different Pokémon movies. Lots of Pokémon items this week including the Pikachu 3DS XL.

For those who don’t know, I’m a pretty big Nintendo Fanboy. I collect just about anything that says Nintendo on it including games, merchandise, memorabilia and more. Here I am again taking over the Mariobilia feature for Andrew.

This week, due to popular request, I take a look at some of the games I've recently acquired. Don't worry though, there is still new merchandise to be seen as well. Pokémon fans will enjoy seeing the new books, cards, mugs, and other various items based on the franchise. There is also something for Mario fans this week since I snagged a Mario pillow from Sears. The gem in this video happens to be a Limited Edition Pikachu 3DS XL system which has already become a collectors item.

Nintendo is giving fans a bigger reason to go digital with New Super Luigi U.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34720

Club Nintendo is celebrating the launch of New Super Luigi U with two promotions. First, Club Nintendo will give members double the coins for taking the New Super Luigi U registration survey, after they purchase the game, earning 40 coins instead of 20. Second, every Club Nintendo member that downloads New Super Luigi U will be entered in a random drawing to win one of 980 Luigi pins.

The “Year of Luigi Pin”, as Nintendo is calling it, may not be as rare an item as the contest makes it out to be. It appears identical to a pin that has been sold at the Nintendo World Store for years now. However, we will only know for sure if someone is able to compare the two after winning.

This promotion will run until August 1st, so those holding out for a physical copy of New Super Luigi U are out of luck.

TalkBack / Sakurai Considering Mewtwo for Next Smash Bros. Games
« on: June 18, 2013, 07:13:00 PM »

Mewtwo may return in Smash Bros., possibly with his new X and Y form.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34700

Masahiro Sakurai is considering having Mewtwo return in the next Smash Bros. games.

During last week’s Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Developer Roundtable at E3 there was a Q & A session with Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of the Pokémon Company, and Junichi Masuda, Director at Game Freak. I was fortunate enough to ask the men the following question:

“Can you go into more detail on how Mewtwo changes forms, and would you like this new form to appear in the new Smash Bros.?”

Upon asking this question the audience burst into laughter. Both Tsunekazu Ishihara and Junichi Masuda also had a surprised look on their face and appeared to not know how to safely answer the question. Sakurai was also in the audience and looked as if he were thinking, “Oh man, not this again!” after the question was asked.

After a brief moment of silence, Ishihara and Masuda answered by saying they don’t have anything to announce about the new Pokémon (Mewtwo’s new form) today, and that they can’t speak on its appearance in other games. Sakurai then shouted out, from the audience, “We are thinking about it.”

TalkBack / Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut Impressions
« on: June 13, 2013, 02:43:07 PM »

This demo needed some cybernetic implants of its own to help new players.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/impressions/34635

I decided to play Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut due to a strong recommendation from a friend. I didn't know much going into the experience other than it’s a first person shooter with RPG elements and that different abilities are gained through cybernetic attachments given to the game’s main character.

The demo opened up with the main character starting in a back alley of some sort of warehouse. I was able to meet up with some gangsters that offered to sell more ammo, guns, and other various upgrades. From this point I immediately had a hard time figuring out where to go. It’s only after messing around a bit that it becomes apparent the game gives you an arrow, with the approximate distance, to help the player figure out where to travel.

My difficulty playing the game continued from here since this demo offered no tutorials and nearly every button on the GamePad was required to do something important.

After making my way through a warehouse I came to a loading dock full of enemies. At first I attempted to shoot them all, but this led to a quick death. It was at this point I realized that this was a stealth portion of the game, however I had no way of figure out how to be stealthy enough to succeed. Instead I just ran as quickly as I could to the next checkpoint. Surprisingly this worked.

This ended up being the theme of my time with the demo. I did eventually figure out I could, for a limited time, get the main character to turn invisible. I wish I had known this earlier as it would have helped.

At the end of the demo there was a boss fight, but he proceeded to destroy me even after multiple attempts.

One other concern I had with this game was the aiming didn’t seem smooth enough for a shooter. I had a hard time positioning the aiming reticule exactly where I wanted it. When titling the stick in any direction it seemed to always miss. It felt a bit slow as well.

It’s really hard to judge Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director’s Cut based on the demo. I’ve heard many people say good things about this game, however the demo provided absolutely no tutorial to assist new players which made it extremely difficult. It’s a game I’d be willing to give another chance, but the demo clearly didn’t do it justice.
