http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40235/nintendo-announces-e3-plans

Nintendo has revealed their full E3 plans including a return of the Nintendo World Championship after 25 years.

To start things off, Nintendo will continue their tradition of having a Digital Event in order to make their big game announcements. This event will take place on June 16 at 9 a.m. PT.

Nintendo will also be bringing back their Treehouse Live event during the E3 show floor hours. This year, the live stream will have more games and more developer appearances than ever before.

If you want to try out some of the games at E3, don't fret. Nintendo is once again partnering with Best Buy to let fans play Mario Maker during the week at E3. Participating stores will have the game on hand on June 17 between 4-9 p.m., and again on June 20 between Noon and 5 p.m.

The last bit of news is that Nintendo is bringing back their famous Nintendo World Championships tournament during E3. No details have been given, but the event will happen on June 14 and players can try to enter the competition at participating Best Buys on May 30.

TalkBack / Mewtwo Super Smash Bros. Impressions
« on: April 22, 2015, 12:55:00 PM »

Justin lets us know if Mewtwo is worth adding to your Smash Bros. Wii U & 3DS roster.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/40125/mewtwo-super-smash-bros-impressions

It's no secret that Mewtwo is my favorite Pokémon. I was pretty upset when it didn't return as a playable fighter in Brawl and that fact cemented my hatred towards Lucario. Even though Mewtwo wasn’t one of my favorite characters to use in Melee, I still did what I could to champion its return to the Smash Bros. series. I was once again let down when we learned the final Smash Bros. roster on 3DS didn’t include Mewtwo, but then Nintendo shocked us all and revealed that yes, Mewtwo would indeed be striking back as the first ever Smash Bros. DLC character.

I've had a few days now to toy around with Mewtwo in the latest Smash Bros. games. But if you didn't get it for free, is Mewtwo worth buying?

To start things off, Mewtwo is indeed fun to play as. If you have played as Mewtwo in Melee you will immediately be familiar with his moveset as it’s pretty much unchanged. Mewtwo remains floaty and is a decent sized character on screen. It also has solid jumping height too.

Mewtwo has some interesting specials. Its recovery Teleport (Up + B) has solid range and can double as a way to escape some bad situations. Disable (Down + B) will temporally daze nearby opponents facing Mewtwo and has been improved from Melee. However, I still haven't been able to make good use of the move and it feels somewhat risky and gimmicky.

Mewtwo's Confusion attack (Side + B) is a great move that can toss projectiles back at opponents. It can also be used to flip opponents around. This attack has some nice situational properties that could be explored deeper, but may not be as effective in most cases against more skilled opponents.

2.jpg

Mewtwo's final special move (default B), Shadow Ball, is fantastic. When fully charged, it has great damage output and solid knockback. Using it uncharged can be useful too. My biggest complaint with this attack is that opponents who touch Shadow Ball as it charges no longer take damage as they did in Melee. Regardless, if you want to play a good Mewtwo you are going to need to learn to use this attack well.

Mewtwo has some nice tilts, but they could be a bit better. This is a great way to rack up some damage while getting in close. They are also a bit safer than going all in for a Smash. Out of all of them though, down tilt is the best due to its speed and range. Its neutral jab combo is nice too, but if you miss you will be vulnerable.

Mewtwo's good jumping ability gives it some great aerial control, but there are risks (more on that later). Up air is good for juggling. Neutral air seems like an OK way to follow up some attacks with. Forward air has solid power, can be followed up with itself at times, but is hard to consistently hit. Down air is powerful and can Meteor Smash, and back air is a great tool to help push opponents off stage. These later two moves, coupled with Mewtwo's solid jumps and recovery, make it good at ledge guarding. In fact, I think this is one of the areas Mewtwo excels at and those who want to play well with it will have no choice but to take advantage of this at every opportunity, even if it can be a bit risky.

3.jpg

Mewtwo's Smash attacks leave something to be desired, even though they are all decent kill moves. Up Smash is great, but smaller characters seem to frequently avoid it even if done right next to them. Forward Smash is strong, but will leave you open. Down Smash is also powerful, but sadly only does damage directly in front of Mewtwo. I wish this attack did something to sweep around him because Mewtwo doesn't have many reliable options to cover both sides.

Mewtwo has some good throws, but his grab range feels weak. I often find myself missing grabs, but maybe practice will help. Its down throw is good and gives the player the option to attempt a follow up attack. Forward throw doesn’t have much knock back, but does shoot out a bunch of orbs for a follow up attack. These orbs could be used better if playing against more than one person. Back throw is strong and can sometimes be used to kill, but it’s really a great way to get people off the stage so you can try to follow up with a good ledge guard. Finally, Mewtwo’s up throw is something you should only use when your opponent is within kill percent as it’s one of his more reliable ways to get a KO.

Those of you who play with items will be happy to hear that Mewtwo has a great Final Smash. He transforms into Mega Mewtwo Y and performs, what I’m guessing is, his Psystrike attack. It’s a great animation with strong KO potential.

The biggest problem I have with Mewtwo is its weight. Even though his Pokédex entry says he weighs 279 lbs, he is the second lightest character in the current Smash Bros. roster. Only Jigglypuff weighs less than Mewtwo in Smash. This weight problem, mixed with his decent size, makes juggling risky. I've died many times at around 70 or 80 percent. If anything is going to hold this Pokémon back from top level Smash play, it's going to be his weight before anything else.

4.jpg

One final let down with Mewtwo is that it is the only character without any custom moves. While I haven't dabbled with this feature much, it is upsetting that a major new addition to these Smash games were ignored for the latest character. I haven't heard any official comments on the matter, but I really hope they get added at a later date.

So is Mewtwo worth adding to your Smash Bros. roster? If you can't get enough Smash Bros., I can't think of a reason not to pick it up. If you have guests frequently come over to play you'd just be a jerk to pass up on this first expansion (in some ways) to the base game. Even though he may be a bit flawed, the Pokémon semi-villain is still unique and enjoyable to play as.

The only people I'd tell to pass up on this DLC are those who don't play much Smash, or those who don't care about the character and don't have many people over to play. For everyone else, just buy it. If not for you, then for your guests who will start playing and endlessly ask you, "where's Mewtwo?"

For those who don’t know, I’m a pretty big Nintendo fanboy. I collect just about anything that says Nintendo on it including games, merchandise, memorabilia, and more. Here I am again taking over the Mariobilia feature for Andrew.

Jakks Pacific isn't holding back with their World of Nintendo line. I've previously shown off some of the figures in this series, but now the next wave is slowly making its way to stores. There is something for everyone here with figures and toys from Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. Enjoy!

TalkBack / My Joyless Amiibo Journey
« on: April 03, 2015, 10:56:00 AM »

Our very own King Nintendo Fanboy details his personal Amiibo journey and how Nintendo is doing nothing to make it better.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/editorial/40021/my-joyless-amiibo-journey

If you don’t know me, let me just say I’ve been a super, insane Nintendo fan for nearly my entire life. I became hooked when I played a Nintendo Entertainment System, and was immediately enamored by a life full of Nintendo games, toys, and media. Over the years, it has been a strong constant in my life and I’ve come to learn much about the company and its creations. Ultimately, my passion for the company is what led me to write for Nintendo World Report.

Throughout my life I’ve also been collecting Nintendo games, toys, merchandise, and more. As I’m sure some readers know, I collect just about anything Nintendo related that I can reasonably get my hands on. I’m not a rich guy, but I do make sacrifices in order to help my collection grow.

That leads me to one of Nintendo’s recent initiatives we all know as Amiibo. It is part game, part toy, and something a collector like me just has to have. They look cool, are fun to show off, and they even have practical uses in several Nintendo titles. I mean, in order to experience everything many Nintendo games have to offer, you need Amiibo.

3.jpg

So what’s the problem there? The Amiibo buying experience has been hell. Getting the first wave of Smash Bros. Amiibo was no problem for me, but I know the scarcity of some of the figures was, and still is, pretty bad. I understand that Nintendo makes less of characters that aren’t as popular, but there still weren’t enough. If you wanted Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, or Marth and you didn’t get them right away, you’re pretty much out of luck until Nintendo maybe possibly reprints the figures. Keep in mind, we’ve been promised a Marth reprint for three months.

Smash Bros. wave two didn’t have a solid release date, so every store was getting them at different times. This caused a lot of confusion and panic amongst the Amiibo collecting community. On top of that Best Buy, my store of choice, wouldn’t give me Amiibo I had pre-ordered that had come in without me making long calls to corporate on multiple occasions. It literally made no sense and Best Buy was screwing up royally with their internal communication in regards to Amiibo.

Wave three wasn’t too much of a problem, except for the store exclusives. Really, why would Nintendo decide to let some stores sell figures exclusively when they can’t even meet the demand with their awful supply? So not only are many Amiibo hard to get, you have to get them at one store and who knows what their rules will be? I got lucky with Shulk and Meta Knight, but Lucario and Roaslina are another story.

Toys”R”Us canceled my Lucario and never offered me another one after the fact like they did with many of their customers. It sucked, but I managed to order one from the Toys”R”Us eBay account soon after. Tell me, why does Toys”R”Us have an eBay account to begin with, and why they would cancel website orders and sell them on eBay instead? I still got one fortunately, but none of this makes sense.

5.jpg

Rosalina was a battle. I heard pre-orders only went up at Target around 4 a.m. one morning and quickly sold out. Nice going, Target. This left me with no choice but to camp out for one the morning she released.

I got to the Target about an hour and half early and was fourth in line. We all waited and the line grew. Target opened and the line went in an orderly fashion to the back of the store where the electronics section is. Or so I thought.

You see, two young people who showed up five minutes before opening broke the line and dashed the long way across the store and managed to scoop up the only four Rosalina Amiibo the entire store got. Everyone was yelling, people said I deserved one, and Target didn’t care. The manager claimed there was no official line and that these rotten people could take what they had in hand. Great call there, guys.

I was lucky though because I feared this type of garbage would happen at Target and my mother agreed to go to a different Target for me. She had similar trouble. She was one of the first people on line before the store opened, but a bunch of young people dashed past her. As she made her way to electronics she used her wise elder powers to tell off the young whippersnappers and claim she is getting one because she was there before almost all of them. The few people ahead of her backed her up and she was able to secure a Rosalina for me. Thank you, Mom! No thanks, Target.

The Mario series Amiibo seemed to turn things around a bit. I didn’t have much trouble at all obtaining the entire set. I thought Nintendo had learned from their mistakes. Then they had to release Gold Mario. I got lucky and was able to pre-order this WalMart exclusive online, but they only lasted about 30 minutes. If you missed out, I’m sure you had to go through some less-than-enjoyable in-store experience to get one. It sucks.

4.jpg

And now the fourth wave of Super Smash Bros. Amiibo is upon us and things seem worse than ever before. Just yesterday, I was able to pre-order all of the non-exclusive Amiibo from Best Buy before they sold out in about 15 minutes. Then I rushed over to my local GameStop an hour early in order to attempt to pre-order the exclusive Ness figure.

GameStop said they would be taking web-in-store orders at 3 p.m. that day, and Ness would be put on the standard web later. I’ve seen how poorly GameStop’s web-in-store ordering system works under heavy use. What I mean is, it doesn’t work. I was first in line and as soon as Ness went up, the battle across the country began. The servers were jammed and it took the employee over an hour to get my order processed. That’s insane. There were reports of people waiting more than two hours to get a pre-order in.

There are fingers to point everywhere in this situation. First, Nintendo for still not having enough supply to meet demand. Nintendo again for still agreeing to do store exclusives and making it harder for people to get a hold of specific characters. And finally, GameStop for making the decision to make the product a web-in-store exclusive, which basically guarantees that their weak servers will crash as thousands around the country try to place orders all at the same time.

Oh, and remember how I said GameStop was planning to sell their exclusive Ness Amiibo, along with the rest of wave four, on their website later? Well sorry, they sold out completely with web-in-store, so if you didn’t go and wait hours you probably didn’t get a Ness. Have fun importing from Japan, I suppose.

6.jpg

I was lucky enough place an order for a full set of Splatoon Amiibo at GameStop during that long wait too. Which is nice, but there is still another Smash Bros. wave four exclusive that I have to get. Yes, Greninja is being sold exclusively at Toys”R”Us.

I made the biggest mistake an Amiibo collector can do though. I foolishly decided to go to sleep at 1 a.m. last night. So you know what happened? Toys”R”Us put Greninja and the rest of the wave up at 3 a.m. A great time for everyone to order this exclusive product. Sure, the will be taking in store pre-orders later this month, but am I supposed to take a vacation day at work to get one? Come on.

I got lucky with the Target exclusive Jigglypuff though. I got out of the shower and just decided to check in the rare event that it went up. Guess what: it did, and I sat at my computer wrapped in a towel rushing for my credit card in order to get my order in. Jigglypuff was gone in about 10 minutes, but I got lucky again.

Amiibo are supposed to be cool toys for Nintendo fans collect. These toys are then supposed to do fun things in Nintendo games as a bonus. However, the entire Amiibo buying experience has been beyond stressful, annoying, complicated, and completely devoid of any fun. Having a full set of Amiibo is like earning medals in some stupid war. If you see that a person has a rare Amiibo, you can probably bet they went through some hell to get it, or spent far too much money on it. Either way, it’s a bad experience.

What baffles me the most is that this bad experience is, ultimately, being created by Nintendo themselves by not manufacturing enough Amiibo, or making them even harder to obtain by allowing several to become store exclusives. For a company that wants to completely control the user experience in their games to ensure the consumer is having fun, they have completely dropped the ball with their Amiibo.

7.jpg

My battles haven’t been fun, even if I got what I wanted in the end. The thing is, when you expect a new Amiibo to go up for pre-order, panic will set in. You need to be ready at a moment’s notice to drop everything and do what it takes to secure your order. This leads to me trying to create a network of friends to text/call when something becomes available, and question whether or not I should sleep since a new figure could go up at any time. This is ultimately unhealthy and gives me less time to enjoy playing my Nintendo games. If I’m playing a game, I could miss a figure because I’m not refreshing websites.

Nintendo has always been about making things fun. I want to tell you that the quest to obtain Amiibo currently is anything but fun. If the company can’t make enough of a figure to meet demand, please just wait. I’d even pay more money per Amiibo if this hell went away. Heck, why not take pre-orders months in advance so you know exactly how many to produce? Announce a cut off date or something.

I’m not the only one who is pissed off at the handing of the situation. Something needs to be done to make the experience better in the end. I don’t really care what the solution is as long as it works. Please, I want Amiibo, but I can’t take this frustration much longer. Have mercy, I beg of you Nintendo. Do something to make this fun.

We take a look at 13 worthy contenders.

It’s been known for a while now that Mewtwo will be coming to the latest Smash Bros. games as DLC. But does the DLC really have to stop there? I don’t think so.

Adding Smash Bros. characters to the roster not only pleases fans, but allows Nintendo to earn more money off an already shipped product. On top of that, Nintendo could also use new characters as a way to promote upcoming games. It just seems like a no-brainer.

So continue through the next few pages to see my list of the top 13 characters I’d like to see added to the current Super Smash Bros. roster.

Have a pick of your own you’d like to see? Let me hear about it in the comments section below!

TalkBack / Where to Place Netflix’s Zelda Series on the Timeline
« on: February 11, 2015, 06:07:13 AM »

We examine the best places a live-action Zelda series could go on the timeline.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/39613/where-to-place-netflixs-zelda-series-on-the-timeline

A few days ago we learned that Netflix is in talks with Nintendo to develop a live-action series based on The Legend of Zelda. While the series could just ignore the current Zelda timeline and do its own thing, it’s also possible that the story told in the series will be officially connected to the games. If it is connected to the timeline, the series could be used to fill in some gaps that we currently don’t know too much about in the Zelda universe.

I’ve spent some time thinking about it and have come up with several places that a live-action Zelda series could be placed nicely on a timeline.

1.jpg

1.   Before Skyward Sword

A lot of crazy stuff happened before the events of Skyward Sword. There was a huge war with the Demon King Demise for the Triforce. This ended with the goddess Hylia eventually sending some humans up into the sky on a patch of land known as Skyloft for safety and the remaining races on the ground weakly sealing Demise.

Detailed accounts of the events taking place during this war are still unknown. Skyward Sword showed us that during this era there was even a race of super advanced robots before the war. Additionally, a non-canonical comic in the back of Hyrule Historia also tells a tale of the events that happened during this era.

There is clearly a demand for more information on the events that occurred before Skyward Sword. If Netflix were to tie their series in here it could also be used to give Demise a deeper character than we briefly saw in his only game appearance.

3.jpg

2.   The Hero of Men

Before Minish Cap there was a tale told about The Hero of Men. No game has taken place to describe the events that took place during this era, so it’s another great place for a live-action Zelda series.

The tale of The Hero of Men is pretty straightforward. The kingdom of Hyrule was taken over by evil dark beings. The Picori then came from the sky and delivered a sword and a golden light to The Hero of Men. This hero then drove out the darkness and, apparently, sealed it with the Picori’s sword in a chest.

4.jpg

3.   Before The Wind Waker

After the events of Ocarina of Time, on the Adult Era timeline, Ganondorf somehow escaped his seal in the Scared Realm and began to pursue world domination once again. These events could be greatly expanded upon to tell a great tale.

The only downside is that there would be no happy ending in this series. As anyone who has played 10 minutes of The Wind Waker knows, King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, desperate for a solution to save his kingdom from Ganondrof, entrusted his kingdom to the gods. This ended with the gods flooding Hyrule in an attempt to stop the evil Gerudo prince.

4.   Before The Original Zelda

There was a lot going on politically before the first Legend of Zelda title. The king of Hyrule was worried about the power of the Triforce being abused, so he hid the Triforce of Courage. This same king passed the Triforce of Wisdom down to his daughter, foregoing giving it to his son who he didn’t trust.

The young prince was promoted to king upon his father’s death, but was mad that he didn’t obtain the Triforce. A powerful wizard advised the new king to seriously question his sister, Zelda, about what was going on. Zelda refused to tell the king or the wizard where the Triforce was, so the wizard eventually cast a spell on Zelda that would cause her to sleep forever.

The king immediately regretted this and placed Zelda in an alter (which you may remember from The Adventure of Link). After all of this, Hyrule then went into a steep decline.

I’ve always wondered why the land of Hyrule looked so bleak in the first two Zelda games. A more detailed account of the events that took place during this era could be an exciting way to delve deeper into this tragic back-story that also somehow relates to the unknown resurrection of Ganon.

5.   After The Adventure of Link

After the events of the second Zelda title, two Princess Zelda’s co-existed at the same time. The younger one was rescued by Link in the first game; the second is the older formerly sleeping Zelda who Link later saved. What occurred after these events is completely unknown.

Was Ganon once again resurrected? Did Link and the two princesses rebuild Hyrule and both fight for his heart? Maybe we need a Netflix series to fill us in.

So there are my top picks for where Netflix’s The Legend of Zelda series could take place on the timeline. Is there a back-story or different era you would like to see explored in this show? Tell us about it in the comments section below!

TalkBack / Rumor: Mario Amiibo Variants in Production
« on: February 04, 2015, 08:36:33 AM »

Is this the start of something new for Amiibo?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rumor/39574/rumor-mario-amiibo-variants-in-production

Gold and Silver variants of the Mario Amiibo, from the Super Mario line of figures, have supposedly been spotted on Nintendo’s CPSIA Certificates of Compliance website.

This portion of Nintendo’s site is set up to show that each of their toy products comply with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). The pages for the Gold and Silver Mario variants have apparently been taken down since they were first spotted.

There has currently been no official announcement about these two Amiibo from Nintendo. Stay tuned.

Just to clarify things, we did not include Virtual Console titles on this list. While the Wii Download games on Wii U are technically not called Virtual Console, they are in a sense. It's for that reason they did not make the list.

As far as release dates go, they are only shown on this Feature if the exact month of the release is known (at a minimum). Anything else I felt had a higher chance of slipping out of its "Release Window" so it doesn't have a release date listed.

Please Understand!

Why are your news stories so short?  I know you can only report on info you have, but man, there is no substance to any of these articles.

This is a massive 10 page Feature. The first page is a short intro created to describe the Feature in its entirety before going more in depth. Please use the table of contents on the right hand side of the page to navigate the different pages and to see the real meat of this particular article.

I hope that helps. :)
