odified: I'm still unsure if I should buy the device myself. It sounds like a nice idea and everything, but if the uptake is too bad it won't get many games.
Also, I think Iwata meant 90% won't think it's a good idea upon hearing the announcement (which he was pretty right about), no that only 10% will enjoy the device hen it's out.

BTW, the abbreviation PS2 is overused. There's PS/2 RAM, a PS/2 port and a PS2 computer.

Perhaps that meant Japan AND PAL?
I bet K7 sells better in the west than in Japan, the style doesn't look like something that might sell in Japan.

Doesn't fit into my buying schedule. There are too many games released in the same period I need to play.

Comparing the DS to the VB is pointless. What do those two have in common? Hell, even the screens work fundamentally different (the VB uses some weird mirror setup, the DS has plain, old TFTs). The main flaws with the VB aren't present in the DS.
They are calling the DS a hird pillar because the GBA isn't that old. It's old enough to lose against the PSP in technical comparison (not battery life, though) but still too new to replace it already. The DS will be capable of competing with the PSP, but I doubt it will see a successor. They said the DS is a taste of what's to come in the N5, the N5 and next GB will probably replace the DS.

Silks: If that no-money/already have GBASP was true the PSP wouldn't sell, either. However, we don't know how the PSP will sell, so...

Two screens don't make the device worse, it has as much processing power as the GP32 plus the GBA. That's some nice power. If you don't like the two screen concept you will probably find more than enough games that use them as one screen.

I'm still saying it was more or less announced just to counter the PSP, while it was announced as a third pillar to avoid shortcycling and looking too much like late Sega.

I don't consider the behaviour of investors interesting or logical. They run away at the slightest sign of trouble, they'll probably call a doctor when driving over a bump in the road. Investors fleeing or coming means zero for me, the Wall Street should be outlawed for all I care.

Is the Yen really that strong? Considering the Euro-US Dollar exchange rates, I'd say the dollar is just very weak.

What I said about VFQ holds true here as well: As long as they don't cripple the GC version's graphics in favour of the PS2 I don't care.
It would be REALLY funny if they announced it for PS2 to spark interest and pull support in the last minute. That'd get PS2 owners REALLY angry.

Searanox: Except for RE4 none of the 5 make sense in marketing. They are low-cost games that aren't even expected to sell well (evident by the size of VJ's initial shipment). Mikami probably just wanted to have some fun, try out ideas, etc. It's more a testing of waters than anything else.

The GBA has a huge amount of units sold already, even if the DS came out there'd be enough users to sell games to. I mean, there are still games being made for the PS1 and Dreamcast! I bet the DS will be backwards compatible as well, giving no reason to abandon the GBA market. More likely the GBA will continue as usual while the DS doesn't sell as good.

The PSP might have some problems. With that price I cannot see any "cool kids" (and by that I mean basically any organic waste up to the age of 25) pick it up, they don't have that much money to spare, they need to buy new clothes and lots of cigarettes. They can afford mobiles because of the contracts that make them as cheap as one cent, but the PSP cannot have those.

m_c: EA has its own devs AND assimilates other companies. There's no Westwood, Maxis, etc, it's all just "EA Games". Also, they have EA Sports, of course (I'm not sure whether those were unified as well).

They should make a new FF (or better yet, something completely different) so they aren't tied to old material or storylines requiring too many impossible (i.e. prerendered) scenes.

You could only play opensource games on the GC since you cannot recompile the binaries for, say, UT or Halo. Both are x86 games, the latter even Windows-only (WineX could overcome that restriction, though). The GC is based on PPC architecture, x86 binaries (and probably normal PPC binaries as well) won't run on it.

Nintendo is known for innovation, not better technology or anything. They need to stay a step ahead of its competition in the creative area or they'll lose their appeal.
