haha, yea, I remember looking into that game many, many moons ago and feeling it looked very underwhelming.  was there even a "main campaign" to play through? like, with a plot and events? did the protagonists even have names/faces?

Names yes but you never saw their faces. They did talk though and it wasn't the typical broey stuff. Hell, one of the samey-looking soldiers is female.

General Gaming / Hammerfight: Anger in a flying coffee grinder
« on: February 01, 2011, 10:34:19 AM »
Hammerfight is a game where you control a flying coffee grinder with a giant hammer attached and smack other flying things into bits.

It looks all nice and friendly and then it hits you in the face with a point blank siege bomb. Then you crawl away and play a few rounds of hammerball only to find the ball replaced with a giant electrocuting murder machine. Of course by then you're used to that stuff because you fought the first boss at night with an escort mission going on.
There's a branching storyline and plenty of modes, just make sure to set the mouse DPI to about half what it suggests. It's totally worth the money.

I have to say that I don't see how Bit Trip Runner is even in the running for best downloadable game, that game just wasn't fun.

Onslaught (WiiWare) has online coop but good luck finding a match for that nowadays.

Well, it's not stationary so it should be the Playmobile :P

For me the two things the PSP2 has to prove itself on are price and game library. Well, especially the game library. The PSP had a weak one, that was its downfall. Sony has to prove that their system will deliver more games than the 3DS.

The "PS3 Games on the Go" stuff intrigues me.  My thought is that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot stopping Activision from taking, say, Modern Warfare 3 and making a PS3 build of it, and then taking the same code and putting it on NGP.

Didn't they promise that for the PSP as well?

"Doshin no Kirby" (Kirby's Adventure)

Hoshi no Kirby (Kirby of the Star), Doshin was the giant in that Gamecube game.

There's a budget line called The Pyramid here but it only includes third party titles.

I, of course, highly disagree with Matt's evaluation of SMK vs. MK64.  The control and gameplay is much more solid in SMK, but we've been over this in other threads.

In 3D games I assume that the camera is pointing forward, when it lags behind the car during turns that means I oversteer because I can't tell when the car is aligned with where I want to go.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Wii Sales Thread

Well if Nintendo was in a situation where they were selling hardware and no software was moving (granted that this is only 1 week and only the Top 20), and a major security hole was just punched through their system to allow easy use of FREE/illegal alternatives in place of Retail/legal avenues, then the Wii2 would have happened yesterday.

I checked yesterday, the 3DS wasn't out.

I have zero faith in Nintendo when it comes to not making us do stupid **** with a portable game system. It's the reason I stopped playing Spirit Tracks, stupid blowing item.

If the margins aren't high enough he might not even lose out by not selling the thing.

I wonder if they actually translated Ghost Trick for Europe, Ace Attorney Investigations didn't get translated so my mother, who I usually hand my adventure games down to, couldn't play it at all.

If Mass Effect has such a great story it sure doesn't try grabbing you with it. I got ME2 during the crazy Steam sale but haven't played more than a few hours of it and don't really see more than a generic fight-the-aliens thing so far.

1265
If they want me to be one of those 900k buyers they need to prove that their system does more than just display old games in 3D.

They also announced Deca Sports Extreme. I wonder how long it'll take them to realize Deca Sports is a waste of money.

Link's Awakening is a large game, it's a lengthy adventure and very pretty by gameboy standards. I can see charging less for something simple like Pac-Man but LA is equivalent to the SNES.

Apple benefits from the pricing on the App Store because they aren't trying to make games there themselves, they just take a chunk of what everybody else earns. The pricing there was a race to the bottom, now it has reached the bottom and the only way people can charge more than a dollar for their game is by going freemium. The pricing expectations on the app store are completely shot and I think the only real beneficiary is Apple who can sell the hardware by advertising tons of games and then makes a chunk off every app sale. A dollar per sale can pay for a minigame but making the kind of large game that's expected on consoles and handheld gaming systems isn't viable with that return. They don't make it up in volume either, on the App Store it's big news when a 1$ app sells 3 million copies. Nintendo can sell ten times that at thirty times the price with their big hitters, that's 300 times the revenue!

better be $2-$3 a piece at most.

Honestly LA is worth 5$ easily.

So that looks like a 200 Euro purchase price. There's always around 17% VAT, depending on the country so the break-even point would be 234€, ignoring othercosts for the retailer. So yes, 250€ (340 USD) final price seems to be right on the money. Leave it to NoE to set the wholesale price higher than the retail price in the US. I bet that's why they region locked it, retailers could import it at retail price from the US and still get it cheaper!

They should have thought about that before violating the capitalization rules of their language.
