I remember how a computer with a CD drive was something special. And how colour printers were not in every household. It's not that we're old, the world just changes at an amazing speed...

From this week:

Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time (PSP)
Lumines: Electronic Symphony (Vita)
Anarchy Reigns (PS3)
3D Dot Game Heroes (PS3)

His logic makes sense. Still, there is a better Zelda game out there and it's called Pandora's Tower.

They completely changed up the combat system, where it's much more strategic now since you have to aim at the right area's of enemies now in order to defeat them and the enemies will block and change the area's you have to hit them at.  Even using the shield was changed up were you have to block at the exact moment an enemy attacks to block or deflect, or else your shield will get damaged and eventually break, leaving you defenseless.  Unlike previous 3D Zelda's where players can just block forever until they get the moment to stab.
"Much more strategic"? I cannot disagree more. Sure, they changed the input mechanics, but the result of this process was rather combat becoming more like a reaction-based puzzle instead of the "realistic" combat they intended to make. At least this was the feeling I got from Skyward Sword and I'm hoping for a more dynamic combat experience with future titles.

I wouldn't call it "radical", but it could definitely use some tweaks to make the series ready for the 21st century. The (somewhat ominous) "Zelda formula" can still be kept intact, but there were no major additions to it ever since it made the jump to 3D. Make a more interesting plot – if you want, yes, you can include a love interest for Link (though I deem it somewhat unnecessary) – that caters to both a mature and a young audience. Start using voiced characters, at least in the cutscenes. And most importantly: Look at "the big picture" – don't glue stuff together hastily, instead Nintendo should be more careful of creating a well-rounded experience where things don't give off a vibe of being put into the game for the sake of being needed – don't focus on "gimmicks".

My solution to the problem: Let Yoshiaki Koizumi take the stand. That guy wrote the sidequest scenarios for Majora's Mask, the plot for Link's Awakening and was responsible for Ocarina of Time not becoming a First-Person-AA. Also, he wrote a certain scene for Mario Galaxy.

Surprised to see Journey getting so many awards.  It's great but I've played demos that lasted longer.  1.5 hours makes an extremely short game.
That doesn't make it unworthy of being a "best game" candidate. Frankly, most of the games I consider to be top-notch these days are fairly short, with a few exceptions maybe. The main problem I have with long games is that they're "just long", nothing more – it seems to me that the creators are trying to put in content that doesn't quite work just to drag the game on.

2$/2€ is a nice price. Although I would've paid more for it, I want these devs to get more money for themselves.

The best gifts are the ones you just don't expect...

When I was... 12, I guess (must've been 1999), I wanted The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask really bad. My parents wouldn't let me buy though. When I unwrapped my presents that christmas, I found the game – but as it required an Expansion Pak, I was immediately dissatisfied. I was telling my parents I needed this "thingie" (my parents are part of a generation that hasn't been in touch with technology much and they don't quite my fascination with video games), but they told me to "just go on". To my surprise, another present contained Donkey Kong 64 – which came with the Expansion Pak.  ;D

And based on your initial description I thought of something along the lines of advertisement.

I was genuinely surprised to hear that Japan is similar to Germany in the desire to hold on to cash.

Why do I get a Namco X Capcom vibe from that game? Bought.  8)

Hmm. I might just import this b/c it can play imports natively. And unless they completely change the power supply unit, I can still use the one that came with my old Wii.

Well, they really should give a better name to their next console. Or just number it like Sony does.

Also, you may want to get started on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask pretty soon, as it's a long game, and we're planning to do the live RetroActive around January.

I'm looking forward to that. It gives me a good reason not to play Okami HD over Christmas.

Sorry to be so dim, but what damaged did your dad do to your Gameboy? I've been studying the photo and I can;t make it out.

Look at the first picture. See the white spots on the upper side of the screen? That's the result from the glue.

Yeah, most of the definite must-buys for the PS3 are from Sony themselves. The rest... well, it depends on your tastes.

Recently bought my first PS3 games: Ico/SoC HD collection, GoW Collection, and Journey. Haven't had time to play them though. :(

Good choices, if I may say so.

All that's left is the software. And that's a different kettle of fish entirely.

Being a Korean company, I think Samsung may be able to pull some developers in the boat and gain some ground in their home country, seeing that consoles are usually quite expensive there. But I doubt they'll ever make it in the international market.

The first RPG from the Mario universe I've ever played was Paper Mario 2: The 1000-Year Door which I liked a lot but never got around to play it all the way through. Meaning I didn't do the optional hard area and level up all my characters to the maximum, but I beat the final boss.

After that came obviously Mario & Luigi, but I didn't finish that at all, since I failed a lot during the final battles and found it too tiresome to go back and grind. I touched Partners in Time, but I stopped after a few hours and never played Bowser's Inside Story.

Obviously, I never played Super Mario RPG for the SNES and unfortunately, I am yet to play Paper Mario since I wasn't allowed to buy it back when it came out.
