While many people may regard this as bullshit, I do not consider it a bad idea, because it is (from my p.o.v.) easier to make an appointment for a match if you all live in the same timezone (or close timezones).

Third European date: Berlin, May 28th at the Tempodrom. I'm just saying. It ticks me off though that this is a tuesday, would've gone if it were on the weekend after this date.

Yes, working on an all-new IP really is what Retro should do first and foremost. But really, the next thing they should make is Zelda.

I would also like to see a different team's approach on the Zelda franchise, even better if it were one that has never been working with Nintendo before. Or just let Retro Studios do their thing.

Also, I'd love to see them making a differen combat system. Nothing like what we see in God of War or Darksiders, but at least make combat feel like you need to struggle with the enemies around you instead of just "block and hit".

TalkBack / Re: Wii U European VC: The 50Hz Debacle
« on: January 30, 2013, 12:09:03 PM »
I would just like to restate. This issue is decidedly not understandable. As with the issue of not being able to view mature content or download mature games during certain parts of the day, Nintendo seem to be the only company who keeps falling into these ridiculous problems.
I agree on that in general. However, the issue at hand is also a problem for Sony as they still sell PS1 classics in Europe as the 50Hz version only. Unlike with Nintendo however, we can bypass this simply by creating an US or JP account. (It also grants us access to more games)

[..]Personally, I think it's because Nintendo of Europe are bunch of idiots. [..] They should start acting like it and stop treating people in Europe to inferior services.
This is also a problem that doesn't only lie with Nintendo. We have been **** upon by many gaming companies over the years – mainly Japanese companies which simply fail to bring their games to Europe fast enough (even when the only language the game offers is English) or ignore us completely. Also, it is a problem within Europe. Because there are a lot more countries to take into consideration which are pretty different in respect of laws – one of them being the youth public protection law which directly relates to the boards that rate games (at least here in Germany) – but also in terms of media access (including internet access) and the way people handle money.

This is simply dumb. On the other hand, it is to an extent understandable as many games would have to be re-rated for them to be released which is a pain in the ass because we Europeans have different rating systems for every country.

@FreudianLemur: Well... yes and no. Many European languages are spoken in other parts of the world (I'm looking mainly at Spanish and French) so I doubt it would be that big of a problem – except for cultural differences maybe.

These. I also propagate that parents should not allow their children to own a device with internet access they cannot oversee.

MM is polarizing, you either love it or hate it.
This. I love it btw, it is my favourite Zelda game next to ALttP.

@NinDirect: Well, this show was really something. I think Nintendo's gearing up now that the shadows of Orbis and Durango are creeping up on the horizon. I do hope though that we won't be disappointed concerning the next two Directs about 3rd parties and the 3DS. Any dates on these yet?

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 20: JOURNEY TO JAPAN
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:54:11 AM »
No it doesn't, anime is a specific genre of animation (like JRPGs are just a genre of RPG). Manga is just the Japanese term for comics.
Er... no. "Anime" is short for "animeeshyon" (アニメーション)  which is the Japanese spelling of "animation" and according to online dictionary jisho.org translates to:
Quote
1: animation;
2: animated film; animated cartoon
or in the case of "anime":
Quote
1: animated film; animated cartoon; anime (when referring to Japanese cartoons)
So, just like "manga" it is a general term for anything that we label "animation" or "cartoon" in Japan itself, but becomes a term that specifically refers to the country of origin when being used outside of Japan. Oh, and I found this for the sake of amusement.
and self-deprecation since I use a Japanese honorific in my Twitter handle

Manga is the the term for Japanese comis. Hell, the word "manga" itself refers to comics and cartooning.
As does "anime" for any kind of movie or TV show that is animated.

Ah, weeaboos. The infamous pseudo-japanophiles that give everyone who is even remotely interested in anything Japanese a very bad name. In fact the bad name they give those people is so bad that persons like me or some of my acquaintances that are also interested in manga/anime/video games/japanese music/whatever comes to your mind decided to put our fandom in the closet and only get it out for our own pleasure because we don't want to be grouped with these deluded, hormone-filled lunatics that restrict their view of Japan to anything that comes from pop culture. Also JAPAN IS TEH BEST because it has manga.

@Pixelated Pixies: Punched that in as well. No porn sites for at least ten pages on Google search with SafeSearch deactivated. However, porn sites pop up the instant that you leave out the space between "x" and "videos".

@joshnickerson: Agreed. There's some messed up stuff out there.

I wonder what they typed into Google. I just performed a search on "Pokemon x" and I got zero erotic images (except for an image from an erotic Pokémon Doujinshi... yes, even kids' stuff isn't safe from the wretched hands of these). So I wonder...

They worked on skyward sword and spirit tracks concurrently.  We'll still probably get a 3DS zelda between wind waker and wii U zelda for sure.

I certainly hope so. But if they want to put it out, they should announce it soon. (possibly even before E3)

While I am to a certain extent happy that the WiiU is getting a Zelda this early, I don't quite like the fact that this probably means that we won't get an all-new Zelda game for 3DS that soon. Unless Nintendo outsources the title, of course.

Monolith does Mechas again? Woohoo!

I think this is most likely going to be an SRPG (like Tactics Ogre, Devil Survivor (which is a SMT spin-off) or FF Tactics – or Fire Emblem for that matter). With the typical SMT demon breeding of course.

Haven't played La Mulana or To The Moon, but I want to (if they either get a Mac Version or I get a Windows PC).

Anyway, here's my Top5 Nintendo Console Games List of 2012:

5. Liberation Maiden (3DS eShop)

4. Tales of the Abyss (3DS)

3. The Last Story (Wii)

2. Kid Icarus: Uprising (3DS)

1. Pandora's Tower (Wii)

I agree with Ceric here. I played the game with PS Move for five minutes, then turned back to the Dualshock. It is a terrible input method (except NMH, were it worked better for me than the DS3).

If you like classic, sprited jRPGs, Atelier Iris is a must-play. Unlike other Atelier Games, this focuses more on RPG elements rather than the other installments which are more like alchemy simulations.

The latter doesn't scare you? Then you should probably check out Mana Khemia. I also recommend .hack//G.U., which is a decent ARPG and improved so much over the first four .hack RPGs. (Note that there's three games).

God of War has already been mentioned, but if you own a PS3, cancel that and get the GoW Saga edition for this console instead. It contains all five Playstation GoW games so far and it should come for a decent price.

In terms of jRPG, I'm also surprised no one mentioned Final Fantasy XII. It's a tad bit lacking story-wise, but in terms of RPG elements, it is so much more free and grand than X. (just saw you already played that)
