Android One the low end pure google version of Android is launching today.

Addressing key barriers—hardware, software and connectivity
There are three big reasons why it’s hard for people in countries such as India, Indonesia or the Philippines to get their hands on a high-quality smartphone. First, is the hardware itself. Even entry-level smartphones still remain out of reach for many (bear in mind that in some of these countries the average monthly income is around $250). Second, many people in these markets do not have access to the latest Android software and popular applications. Finally, even where 3G and 4G networks are available, not enough people have phones that can support data and the plans can be expensive.

Android One aims to help tackle these challenges. By working closely with phone and silicon chip makers to share reference designs and select components, we’re making it easier for our partners to build phones that are not just great to use, but also affordable. They have lots of processing power, so you can get information quickly. They have high-quality front- and rear-facing cameras. And for all those pictures, along with your apps and videos, Android One phones will have expandable storage. We also added features that people in India will find particularly useful, like dual SIM cards, a replaceable battery and built-in FM radio.

Quote
To help ensure a consistent experience, Android One devices will receive the latest versions of Android directly from Google. So you’ll get all the latest features, up-to-date security patches, and peace of mind knowing your stuff is always backed up. It also means Android One devices will be some of the first to be updated to the Android L release later this year. For our hardware partners, they’ll be able to create customized experiences and differentiate their devices without having to change the core software.

In an effort to reduce data costs, if you have an Airtel SIM card, you’ll get these software updates for free for the first six months. As part of this same Airtel offer, you’ll also be able to download up to 200MB per month worth of your favorite apps (that’s about 50 apps overall) from Google Play—all without counting toward your mobile data usage.

Pretty boring year thus far despite saying that about last year as well. Right now maybe Watch_dogs or Azure Striker Gunvolt would be my game of the year.

The official plot details of Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Quote
Marvel Studios presents “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure.
Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” stars Robert Downey Jr., who returns as Iron Man, along with Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. Together with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and with the additional support of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, the team must reassemble to defeat James Spader as Ultron, a terrifying technological villain hell-bent on human extinction. Along the way, they confront two mysterious and powerful newcomers, Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, and Pietro Maximoff, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and meet an old friend in a new form when Paul Bettany becomes Vision.

Sounds like were going to see Ultron start as a project by shield and Pym. Makes all of the stuff going back to the past make more sense, and my guess is that Zola used the Ultron prototype to upload his mind.

Scott Glenn joins Daredevil as Stick, Matt Murdock's Mentor

Quote
Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actor Scott Glenn has joined "Marvel's Daredevil," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.

Best known for his work in blockbuster films such as "The Bourne Ultimatum," "Silence of The Lambs" and "The Hunt For Red October," Scott Glenn will play Stick, the mysterious martial artist and mentor of Matt Murdock (a.k.a. Daredevil).

Scott Glenn joins Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), with Rosario Dawson and Vincent D'Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) in the critically-lauded cast of "Marvel's Daredevil."
"Stick is one of the most important figures in Matt Murdock's life and Scott Glenn embodies all the qualities of someone so integral to this hero's journey," said Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television. "There are few actors who could bring such the authenticity, gravitas and charisma to such a key role in Matt's journey to become the super hero we call Daredevil."

"Marvel's Daredevil" follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

Marvel's first original series on Netflix is Executive Produced by series Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight ("Spartacus," "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer," "Angel") and Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods," "Lost," "Buffy The Vampire Slayer," in addition to writing the first two episodes of "Marvel's Daredevil"), along with Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb ("Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," "Smallville," "Heroes").

Maps will never be as good as Google maps for the simple fact that apple not only came to the party late but isn't as intrusive as Google is with data. Its one of the things that separates the watches for me, Android Wear just makes so much more sense due to the deep Google Now integration.

A few thing's I was surprised about coming out of the event.

-I'm surprised that Beats Music hasn't been pushed more in its marketing or even rebranded.

-Yo Apple **** U2, make Dr.Dre's only job to be finishing and releasing detox.

-I'm surprised the 5c didn't get a upgrade at least taking the 5S inards, touch ID and nfc and putting it in a 5C case.

It seems like most of my apple heavy friends are already prepping to upgrade even if its backorded.

rumor mill time.

The Apple Watch Edition model will cost around $1,200 when it releases.

Apple has a Ultra slim notebook coming in 2015 that will have mutiple color schemes. I wonder if this could mean a actual hardware refresh away from the current look of imacs.

So we should be getting the Nexus Line refresh alongside Android L either next month or in November. The list is looking like.

A refreshed Nexus 5
A refreshed Nexus 7
A Nexus 9 replacing the 10

I wonder if were going to see a Nexus Watch to go along With Android Wear 2.0.

Also i'm wondering if by next year are we going to see Android Wear expand from being a notification platform and become more inline with the apple watch getting NFC for payments and more complex apps.

There's going to be a Daredevil Panel next month at New York Comic Con.

Set and filmed in New York City, it is only fitting that "Marvel's Daredevil," which debuts exclusively on Netflix in 2015, be unveiled at NYCC. Jeph Loeb, Marvel's Head of Television, will lead a panel at NYCC on Saturday, October 11 with "Marvel's Daredevil" showrunner Steve S. DeKnight and the series' star-studded cast, including Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock / Daredevil). This will be the first time "Marvel's Daredevil" cast will be assembled publicly to answer your burning questions about the series!

Expect to see the offical Daredevil Logo, the suit, and maybe a small teaser with the footage that's been shot.

Here's a interview with Jeph Loeb about the Marvel TV unit jumping from Netflix, to ABC, than to the Disney XD cartoons.

http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=55495

Mostly fluff but he gives an intresting parallel to where Director Coulson stands now having to rebuild Shield back to what Peggy was going through when shield was first founded.

Daredevil showrunner also had an interview where he talked about the overall tone.

Quote
"With this version of Daredevil," he explains, "we wanted it to be grounded, gritty, as realistic as we could portray. That naturally fits in with the Daredevil character. Matt Murdock, on a regular basis, would get the **** beat out of him. That's one thing that makes him a great character. He's not super strong. He's not invulnerable. In every aspect, he's a man that's just pushed himself to the limits, he just has senses that are better than a normal humans. He is human. The other thing that really drew me to this character is that he's one of the most morally grey of the heroes... He's a lawyer by day, and he's taken this oath. But every night he breaks that oath, and goes out and does very violent things."

Stuff like this has me a bit wary they may be going to much down the Frank Miller path. I mean other than that conflict of interest I wouldn't call Matt morally grey at all.

I was expecting a low end version of the smartwatch to be pretty much the ipod nano with the band, but apple doesn't seem interested in the lower market tier.

Pebble and any other new comers to the market is pretty much fucked. If your an apple user your obviously going to go toward the Apple Watch, and if your deep in the Google eco-system like me, than its time to grab an Android Wear device.  Really Pebble needs to start working their support for Windows phone and Blackberry.

I have to say I really like the design of the new iphone's and hoping that this may be the year we get a newly designed Mac line. The more rounded edges go much better with the ios 8 UX, and this was evident by the 5c last year.

Nice write up by ars comparing Android Wear to the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch is a mini smartphone while Android Wear is a notification platform. But man those Watch UI looks really bad at times, and it depend on what task both watches are doin about the functionality.\

Yep. When I first played the Beta it seemed to me that there wasn't alot of people out in the world when i'm doing mission or Patroling and chalked it up to probably not as many Xbox One players as PS4 users. But playing the full game it seems to be a design decision as I was paroling on the cosmodrome and there were only a few other players around me, but once an Event started we got a big influx of players running around.

It seems that alot of the decisions they made are very MMOish like the multiple currencies but the game is seemingly hurt by the fact that their isn't multiple hub area's like the tower (though i'm expecting each planet to get one as the updates go on).

I've been enjoying the Crucible but none of the levels seem memorable.

probably won't hurt the movie since DC will most likely put in an edict that if the Movieverse team is the Justice League, than our TV guys will be the Justice Society.

I'm a level 10 warlock and i'm halfway through the moon portion.

I find it a bit funny that Bungie left microsoft since they were a Halo only studio, only to commit themselves to Destiny for ten years.

So far i'm loving the game but find myself disapointed that Bungie didn't decide to just make the game a full MMO. Playing my first even with more than the alloted three players has been the best experience so far.

Even if i am one of the people who doesn't "get" Minecraft, i think people here are shortchanging it.

Even at my workplace i see people playing it on their lunchbreaks. Minecraft is probably #1 game with kids, by very, very, very far. They even play it in schools as a form of educational activity.

My issue with Minecraft as a property to acquire is that it has no future as an exploitable IP. You can't do a Minecraft 2 and capture the same audience, let alone expand it. It's a game fueled by the imagination and creativity of the player, not a narrative; goal; or visual aesthetic. It's not the type of game to allow a sequel. Unlike something like Angry Birds, which is a concept that could be spun out in different directions, what really do you do to expand Minecraft beyond allowing larger worlds?  I suppose if Minecraft could best be compared to LEGOs, you could sell other world tilesets, but that's kind of the extent.  I just don't see how you recoup $2 billion on that IP, let alone make a profit.

I work at a big box retailer and minecraft merchandise sells gangbusters.
But $2 Billion dollars worth of Gangbusters?

Probably not, but once again 2 billion isn't much for a comapny with 90 billion stored off shore to escape taxes.

Microsoft seems to have a love of investing huge amounts of money into dead companies and IPs (see also: Rare & the Gears of War franchise). Considering Microsoft outright refuses to invest money into developing their own studios, and instead just throws money at their problems, I'm quite content to see them become even more irrelevant by throwing even more money at a franchise doomed to die without its creator (Notch has been rumored as saying he's leaving the studio if Microsoft purchases them).

One of these days, Microsoft, you'll actually learn how to be a competent 1st party developer. Or you'll be forced to sell off the Xbox division. Whichever comes first.

What makes Rare a dead company and Gears of War a dead IP.

Anyway your wrong on both counts, first off my friend as for new studios

Team Dakota- founded in 2012
Kids and life style entertainment - founded in 2012
Soho productions- founded in 2010
Black Tusk Studios- founded 2012
Lift London - founded last year
(Fun)ction studios - founded this year
Sota Studios- founded this year
LXP Studios - founded this year
Platform next- founded this year
Np studios- founded this year

Twisted Pixel acquired in 2011
Press Play was acquired in 2012
Gears of War was acquired earlier this year, it made sense for both parties, the IP is still popular and has life in it, but Epic has gotten out of traditional game development.

Microsoft announced a mulit year partnership with undead labs over the state of decay IP which microsoft owns. The first one was the fastest selling xbox live arcade game of all time and was pretty rad.

If Microsoft wouldn't have stepped in to fund Titanfall EA was going to cancel the game since the project had went over bugdet according to the post mortem EA and Gametrailers did.

Microsoft was also ready to fund Ryse 2 after being happy with the sales of the first but neogations shut down when Crytek despite being on its deathbed didn't want to give up the IP in exchange for a way to pay its employees.

On may 31st Microsoft aquired the Rise of IP.

First party games on the xbox one that are new or revived IP
Killer Instinct
Zoo Tycoon
Project Spark
Sunset Overdrive
Phantom Dust
Quantum Break
Scalebound
Screamride
Crimson Dragon
Lococycle
Powerstar Gold
Xbox Fitness
D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die
Ori and the Blind Forest

But yes no investments at all. Minecraft is a big get becuase no matter what a potential Minecraft 2 would sale gangbusters and probably put the xbox one into second place in console sales. Not only that but the licensing and merchandising revenue are unparalleled as well as getting the IP rights to interesting looks games like scrolls and cobalt.

Remember microsoft has over 90 billion in untaxed money sitting off shores that can be spent, and buying Mojang as cynical as it is gives them another off shore company to fill with cash.

who's the tall black guy in the back on the stairs?

edit: You can't be a regular on 2 shows? or they just don't want to give him full regular pay when he's moonlighting?

I think the filming of the two conflict with shooting.

The guy on the stairs next to Blood is Alphonso Mack Mackenzie a charcater from the comics who will be a Mechanic and probably the first recruit of the coulson era of shield.

Yeah season 2 of shield has slowly crept up to my most anticipated show this season.

here's the first group photo of season 2.

For those wording why Triplett isn't a series regular its because he's a regular on the being Mary Jane show.

RIP Ipod Classic.

So I just finished watching the keynote and Man the tone couldn't figure out if wanted to be Williamsburg hipster or more mainstream pop culture anymore. The Apple Watch section was very classic apple in the way it was revealed and marketed, but the NFC Ad and the bit with bono was microsoft tier level bad.

Have to say i'm surprised there  isn't a very low end model to pair with the 5c taking ques from the old ipod nano.

But its funny that this is nothing but Android Wear for the apple eco-system and much better hardware. It seems to be doing the same thing but Apple Watch has a extra step of interactivity and complexity like a standalone device, yet it needs to be slaved to a Iphone like Android Wear is too Android.

I think the Asus Zenwatch looks good.
