What makes a game AAA. Thought it had to due with how much marketing and budget was behind it?

Of not that than Nuts and Bolts or Viva Pinata 2.

So as we all know last week Onlive fired all its employees died, and then restructured with a new back about to rehire as many people as it can looks like this mistake will end up being a gain for Microsoft.

 http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-holding-hiring-mixer-for-former-onlive-employees

Quote
Now it looks like at least some of the laid off OnLive employees could find themselves working for a new boss: Microsoft. The company has set up an web page that specifically invites "individuals and teams affected by the OnLive transition" to a hiring mixer on Monday at Microsoft's offices in Mountain View, California. The location is near OnLive's own headquarters in Palo Alto.

Microsoft says in its invite that it is hiring in both Mountain View and its main headquarters in Redmond, Washington. The invite doesn't say anything specifically about Microsoft developing its own cloud-based streaming game service, saying only that it has "big projects in the pipeline for the rest of 2012 and beyond."

Microsoft at one point considered OnLive to be a threat to its Xbox division, according to recently leaked two year old internal documents, and apparently considered acquiring it. It now looks like Microsoft is more interested in the people behind OnLive rather than the company itself.

People were expecting Microsoft to buy onlive after the Sony/gaikai deal. But why buy the studio when you can just grab the talent and intergrate them into putting M$ exisiting cloud stuff towards gaming.

Well banjo wouldn't need it in the first place. Sony seems to push out rachent and clank games on a regular basis.

Like I said rare is working on two games for next gen and those are the ones we know of. Wouldn't be a strech to bring back banjo as microsoft is aiming for the family.

2207
Does it matter if the games are first party though. As a gamer unless your a uber fanboy it shouldn't. Because in most cases the pub is still paying for the game and most likely keeps the IP. Alotof goodnintendo games have been done by third parties and my favorite sony franchise Rachnet and Clank is done by a studio that sony does not own.

And microsoft bought rare to make money. Kinect sports would make more money than killer insticnt because of the market its aimed at as well as the fighter market is over stuffed.

The good news is that Rare has been working on next gen for two years now. Kinect sports 2 was done by a smaller team with help from Bigpark who did most of the work and dlc. the collection also seems tobe done by a small team. That coupled with the job postings of rare working on three next gen games and have been hiring people as of late from the sonic all stars racing team and some other notable people.

What makes fable heroes non hardcore.

Exclusive content is exclusive content. Microsoft does fund most of those games though.

Id consider most of sonys psn content a boon and its not done internally either.

Still find it ironic that people are calling games shovelware just because of the platform on a nintendo website.

Also another surface ad has surfaced.

Out of all those games, the only ones that appeals to the traditional Xbox audience are Forza and Halo 4. Way to s.h.i.t all over your fanbase Microsoft.

Oh the irony. Nintendo is going after the "core" gamers with the Wii U, while Microsoft has turned a complete 180* and shifted focus towards casual games. Sony has a good balance between the two.

Because Wii Fit U and Sing are so very hardcore.

Microsoft has been keeping the core contained with xbla this year man.

A far more intresting use of. The technology than what the wiimote was doing. The fable game is a core game I guess.  Also just because a game isn't targeting us doesn't means automaticlly bullshit.

Also looks like Microsoft has started its advertising campagin for the surface tablets in williamsburg

Also microsoft is launching an election hub 360 app next week. Its going to allow people to follow the election as well as hopefully livestream the debates.

Eh kind of sad but nintendo power failed to stay relevant by having a digital presences in magazine or website form. Videogames especially have this problem if you aren't a feature heavy publication like edge or game informer.

personally all the magazines I read are digital even the ones that would benefit more from print like GQ or details.  Only get two magazines in print still and would grab the odd np issue when it had a cool cover story.

Would have been cool if nintendo would have took over the magazine and had made it similar to the touchpad pivot magazine.

Would it be appropriate to discuss the demise of Nintendo Power in this thread? Its not a company per se, but it is sorta part of the industry.

I guess but there's already a thread and a dev being shut down is more topical. That and all of the NP people are just being transferred.

So Sony shut down its Liverpool studio the one behind wipeout today. A few of the guys are confriming on twitter.

And a few weeks back there were alot or layoffs at Microsoft's new Vancouver studio. The guys who were working in the free to play and kinect section of the studio were let go so the studio could focus on the new hatdcore IP it had been working on. Didn't help that MS Vancouver is right next to MS Bigpark which works on casuel/kinect games and Microsoft recently opened up MS London just for free to play games.

Eh onlive still wouldn't get it any mainstream attention as sony and microsoft have their own cloud solutions and nintendo isn't intrested.

This was before the surface was announced. And a lot. Of oems are working on windows 8 tablets. Some like hp and thoshiba are making intel based windows 8 tablet and laptops.

And in addtion to intel tablets there are a few oems working on arm tablets as well.

 http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2012/08/13/collaborating-to-deliver-windows-rt-pcs.aspx

The only oems who have been complaining have been acer. All the other oems have pretty much said bring and we will do better.

Yeah sprint is the third biggest carrier now due to stupid purchases as well. I. Between the Evo and htc one series there was a lull where hitch was releasing a whole lot of nothing that lost them a lot of consumer confidence. That and they haven't been able to make a good tablet. Both of their android tabs failed and its rumpred they were banned from working on windows tablets.

Sucks as I love my G2.

I wouldn't call them stupid purchases. Buying them made sense ara time where tootle was pushing its own ecosystem hard and seriously pushing the nexus device. They wanted something to make them different.

And while bad purchases didn't help it also is a by product of its hard to sell a phone in the current market if your not Apple or Sanding. Or have a major partnership with a carrier like verisimilitude and Motorola or att/tmobilr like nokia.

Must sick less than two years ago they were on top of the world with phones like the evo and G2. But theyvdid what sanding is doing now and flooding the market with a to. Of waly phones alongside your big boys.

To be fair the DS didn't start selling like crazy until the lite model. It was pretty obvious seeing as the OG DS had pretty slow sales.

And its more than ios being the flavor of the month. For better or worse ios is dictating the future of computing.

Why should investors stay quiet about legitimate concerns.

Seeing as how the trdtional handheld market has shrunk everywhere but Japan as a shareholder I would be wondering how Nintendo would react to the growing mobile phone/tablet sector. I mean the other two seem to have solutions on how to tackle this growing trend.

Anywho I'm hoping the Wii U browser has good html5 support since it wont have flash.

http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/20/3254779/htc-loss-onlive-investment

HTC lost $40 million from their investment in onlive. They've been having tons of bad luck lately.

2223
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thunderbolt_(interface)

Apple doesn't own the tech. They just helped in development and marketing of it. Its no different that. Intel teaming with Microsoft to make Ultrabooks.

2224
What's Thunderbolt? Is it anything like that failed Firewire tech from the early 2000's?

 http://www.apple.com/thunderbolt/

And firewaire wasn't a failure. There is a big difference in being a consumer standard than being a industry standard. Firewire was widely used in the photography/film industries and is just now being slowly phased out.

2225
Because the Wii U isn't a computer, and no one will give a **** about thunderbolt and USB 3.0.

Seeing as by nextyear most hdds/SSds are going to be usb3 only itwould make sense to use that format.
