General Chat / Re: Um, Apple thread
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:51:56 AM »
Have the next few days to myself with no work or school like all my friends. So i'm cleaning up my house and watching tech stuff as background noise.

I went to try the new itunes today and I was impressed at how streamlined everything was and how pretty stuff is.

As someone who's deep in Google's OS one of the biggest complaints I can level toward the comapny and Gplay right now.

-No Podcast solution. On Android the closest thing is pocketcasts. I want a program that syncs everything between my phone, tablet, and PC.

-Magazine support but no Newstand support. Not that big of a deal for me where are the newspapers. (Its being worked on but for whatever reason its been delayed)

-Google is all about online web apps with offline modes. For somethings like books and Google Drive it makes sense. But no way to pin music to chrome OS or my PC sucks badly. The addition of Packaged apps means they're learning but only one of google's main apps is a packaged one.

Downloading the WWDC 2013 stuff for a quick watch while I sweep and mop.

As long as there's some form of connectivity nintendo references for the win! back to my primary phone then this may be interesting.

Well that is what a smartwatch is in a nutshell. It connects to your phone and aggregates all pertinent information and feeds it too you through the display.

Depending on how each company plans to do it you may not even have to connect the watch to your phone through bluetooth or wifi direct. I'm guessing you could get more expensive models with 3G/4G a la the more  expensive kindle models. Using icloud and Google Drive (what is google's cloud service called?).

In reality this is just another way for the big two to grab more ecosystem lock down.

The Moto X looks pretty awesome. The only feature that I want from it right now is the always on and listening for Google Now. Google Now is a nifty feature but without that background listening its usefulness takes a major hit.

Should be getting a replacement Nexus 4 in the next two weeks.  Than in september will be grabbing the 32GB nexus 7 refresh.

That and PS4 will probably be my only tech expenditures for the rest of the year. Will get a Chromebook late next year for a laptop replacement.

I'd say don't get a pebble and wait till Apple and Google show their smart watches. Its pretty likely that Pebble is dead product walking and its viability in both ecosystems will be killed by iwatch and nexus watch.

Well the first year of Wii U isn't through until novemmber. But looking back so far a few simple suggestons woud have put the Wii U in a more favorable light.

-Clearer and more focused Marketing and messaging,
-A better launch line up. Pikmin 3 and Wii Fit U
-Getting third party support through moneyhats. Rayman and Ghost recon online should be out and exclusive.
-Having their first party and exclusive games have actual online multiplayer.

Looking toward the future we need.

-Multiplayer enabled first party games (its sad that Mario Kart will be the first proper online game on the system from nintendo_
-A bigger focus on digital content. Pokemon Rumble U is a good starting point but they need to go hard like they did with the 3DS eshop.
-Better marketing starting this fall.
-A price cut and new bundles.

The episode  title sounds like an 80s sitcom.

Waiting for Google's to come out. I just want a watch that has the feature and minimalist design of a fitbit.

Get a lumia 1020.

Yeah going to go with the Paperwhite.

oh so sexy.

1239
stop catering too only the child demographic which I think would be hard to do. Nintendo has had at least three times two make games that appeals its aging fanbase but hasn't.

1240
Yo I'm betting Ghost Recon Online makes it too the Xbox One/PS4 before it does Wii U.

I know Nintendo doesn;t like tp play the game but I wpuld have moneyhatted Ubisoft to make sure ZombiU, Ghost Recon Online, and Rayman Origins were released and exclusives.

Nope.

On that note I broke my nexus 4 last week and trying to scrounge up $150 to replace it as my mom says I have to pay for it my self. (Makes sense).

Also should I get a Kindle Paperwhite or a new Nexus 7?

Get a Kindle Fire HD or a Nook HD. The Nook is extremely cheap now, and it has Google Play.

I have a weird fetish for stock. Plus I use most of google's services like their book store etc.

New online Playstore looks awesome.

Remember that this is a European survey.  Handhelds are typically more popular with Japanese developers, who would not have been part of the survey.  Quick, name as many good non-Japanese games for a Nintendo handheld that you can.  I don't know if I could even think of five.  Nintendo handhelds seem to do fine with predominantly Japanese third party support so the 3DS will be fine.

The Wii U is the typical disinterest that I expect.

Mutant Mudds
Mighty Switch Force
Luigi's Mansion 2
Grand Theft Auto China Town Wars

er.......my head hurts.

New Microsoft, Sony Consoles Receive Lukewarm Reception

Compared to mobile and PC, next-generation consoles don't figure nearly as highly into European developers' plans. 13% of survey respondents were working on PlayStation 4 games, compared to 9% working on Xbox One games and 5% on Wii U games; meanwhile, 23% of respondents were planning on working on a PS4 game next, compared to 14% for Xbox One and 7% for Wii U. (Survey results closed before Microsoft announced its DRM policy change.)

PlayStation Vita Slowly Gaining Momentum Among European Developers

Sony's PlayStation Vita is actually gaining ground among European developers; only 2% recently released a game for the Vita, but 6% are currently working on a Vita title and 9% anticipate releasing an upcoming Vita game. By comparison, only 1.5% of European developers recently released a 3DS game, 1.5% are currently working on one, and 2% anticipate releasing a 3DS game next.

So despite giving Unity for free and having self publishing interest in the WIi U was lower than the Xbox One's while the DRM was still in place. It says alot about developers (This survey is for AAA and indie devs to be clear). I'm guessing developers are looking at the Wii U's sales and the fact that Nintendo not only has a bad precpetion for their online system but doesn't do as much as Microsoft and Sony at promoting their online offerings.

The 3DS is the oddest one as its a successful platform so to speak. Despite that the only real indie support it has gotten has been from the usual suspects of teams who develop for near exclusively for Nintendo Platforms.(I'd agure that those developers would probably make more money going multiplatform as well) I mostly blame for Nintendo for not developing the WIi U and 3DS closely together and the 3DS eshop being a much bigger pain than the Wii U's.

So despite making a pretty heavy indie push with its current systems it looks like Nintendo's plans are falling on deaf ears.

So what can nintendo due to try and fix it. I'd say actually advertise the eshop and its content like Microsoft and Sony does. The way Nintendo tends to handle sales are that great either.

1244
You know the thing is.  Nintendo does make good hardware...and except for the Wii, which Nintendo probably felt it waa taking too much of a gamble on, in the first place had fairly good hardware.

And people mention the Gamecube.  If Nintendo's Wii U gets Gamecube level support with Gamecube quality 1st and 2nd party games, then I will be happy with the system and have no problems.  The Gamecube was a great product and had some great games to play.

However, I don't see Gamecube support coming yet.  I see this years Christmas for the Wii U and I am thinking how can 3rd parties still not support the system.  It has users.  It has more users than the PS4 and Xbox One.  It will likely continue to gain and continue to have more users for the next year.  After that, Nintendo will probably fall behind.

To be completely honest I think by this time next year the Wii U will be the worse selling of three next gen consoles and maybe selling worse than the Vita.

The problem is despite having actual units sold we have no real indication that software support is backing up the number of consoles sold.

Alot of those core launch day gamers who buys nearly everything in the launch window decided to skip the Wii U but wll be their at launch. You also have the fact that Sony decided to prepare for the next generation and actually have proper support for downloadable software unlike nintendo. The Console Makersand third parties are betting that due to steam/XBLA/PSN alot of those guys who are buying day one will be digital sales.

Plus Wii U has no killer app on the horizon.

The Hammer would still Lift irrc since Thor is still technically holding it.

Jon Stewart has a completely different style than Hal Jordan, he deserves unique moves and attacks.

Yep his special could be blowing up Mogo.

I'd much rather see NOA get a new president (despite it not mattering) and see Miyamoto take step back from being so involved.

Nintendo just needs someone with a clear thought on the Philosophy of the Wii U and execute it as well as the company can, since right now they seem to be all over the place.

Nintendo touts a strong online system but has no games that directly take advantage of online multiplayer and won't until next year. Nintendo touts miiverse as being a way to communicate with friends but most games lack leaderboards.

Glacius gameplay from the developer.

http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/58t96w/killer-instinct-exclusive-glacius-walkthrough

Game seems to blowing up on Vine and Youtube. Not only does this game get alot of attention for being the first next gen fighter but it seems to be getting alot of love for being good. This is going to be the next big fighting game and a boon for Microsoft bringing back older rare properties.

If the Xbox One wasn't $100 more this would be one of the reasons t get it at launch (ignoring it has a better launch line up than the PS4.)

Plus I need this

Makes me think that that sony mascot fighter should have been held back to be a PS4 alunch title. Would have had more time to fix the UI elements and get rid of those third party twats.
