At least they didn't continue the add-words-to-name pattern and name it "New Super Mario Bros. Wii 3DS".

Technically, NSMB Wii was the 2nd game, so this should be called "New Super Mario Bros. 3".

Hopefully the Koopa Kids are back! And since this is taking many cues from Super Mario Bros. 3, I expect to see a level with the Kuribo Shoe...

How old is that quote? Regardless, it's pretty obvious he's not a game designer. "What do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?" What the? Seriously? It's called creativity. It's not about how powerful the hardware is; it's how one uses the hardware to create a compelling experience.

Ken Kutaragi wasn't a game designer either (neither is anyone at Microsoft). Ken Kutaragi created the PlayStation to push video game technology forward, and Sony wanted to get back at Nintendo for cutting them out of the SNES CD deal.

My opinion exactly! Hope it is a homage, maybe even a slight re imagining of SMB3!

That's what NSMB Wii was.

Well, that Nintendo Direct was a huge disappointment. Aside from the first screenshots of NSMB 2, news about the next 3DS update (folders and game patches), and new Pokemon 3DS apps, there wasn't much to get excited about.

I'm more than a little disappointed that Mario will be getting TWO 2D Bros. outings on both consoles this year. Booo.

Disappointed? Why? This isn't the first time this has happened.

Super Mario Bros. 3 & Super Mario Land both came out in 1989.

Super Mario World, Super Mario All-Stars, and Super Mario Land 2 came out 1 year apart. (SMW - 1991, SML2 - 1992, All-Stars - 1993)

TalkBack / Re: Just Dance Wii 2 Heading to Japan in July
« on: April 21, 2012, 12:57:33 AM »
So Ubisoft let Nintendo publish the Just Dance games in Japan? No wonder they've been so slow with localizing the series over there. We've had 5 Just Dance games so far, all on Wii, and Japan is just now getting Just Dance 2?

Needs a level editor or I won't buy it. And for those of you who might disagree with me, consider this: LittleBigPlanet, FarCry 2, and the "Mario vs DK" games all had level editors. There's also Mario Builder for the PC.

Now I can finally get rid of NSMB DS. Hopefully the 3DS version will have a level editor.

Really guys? It's Mario, it will be sold everywhere.

General Chat / Re: I just bought Uncharted 3!

As a huge fan of the Uncharted series, does Uncharted 3 compare nicely with Uncharted 2?

No, it doesn't.  Uncharted 2 is a far better game IMO in just about every way except visuals.

Well I have the Uncharted 3 soundtrack, and it's about on-par with Uncharted 2's music. How is the multiplayer in Uncharted 3? Is it more balanced and varied (more modes, matchmaking, etc.)?

Also, can I add you on PSN? I have Uncharted 2, Soul Calibur 5, GTA 4, Saints Row The Third, Killzone 3 Multiplayer, Marvel vs Capcom 2

I just figured out how a "DS Player" would work! The bottom screen is displayed on the Wii U controller (for touch-enabled games), and the TV would show both screens in one verticle box (similar to how DS games are shown in promo trailers).

Before the 3DS player comes out, I think we are seriously overdue for a DS player.

The 3DS plays all DS games that don't use the GBA slot, so it's safe to assume that a "3DS Player" would also play DS games.

General Chat / Fun with Google Translate!
« on: April 20, 2012, 03:14:54 AM »
Has anyone here used Google Translate? As we all know, it's not entirely accurate, especially when translating Japanese to English.

Here's my idea to make the service more fun.
  • Go to Nintendo's Investor Relations Information site
  • Copy the webpage's URL into Google Translate, and translate it to Japanese
  • Copy the Japanese text into Google Translate, and translate it back to English
  • Scroll to the bottom of the translated text, and click the speaker icon
  • Enjoy!

the same engine that powers a majority of PS3/Xbox 360 games.

Slight exaggeration, but it probably is the most used engine (about 60 retail and XBLA arcade games use it).

You mean 60% right? Because there are a lot more than 60 games that use the Unreal Engine 3.

No there isn't. It's a little higher than 60, but less than 80. That is still quite a large number though, higher than any other engine this gen

I'd love to see your source to back up those numbers.

EDIT: What's with the + / - numbers under my avatar?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U
« on: April 20, 2012, 01:50:33 AM »
One thing with the Wii U is that Nintendo might not make as much money off of their accessories market the way they did with past consoles. Nintendo has done a good job of selling Wiimotes, and its derivatives, and if you look at the fact that the Wii U has the only possibility of using two uMotes then that cuts their sales of controllers down dramtically. However, since the Wii U is essentially a home console version of the 3DS, what if Nintendo came out with a upgraded version of the uMote every few years that had better screen resolution and battery life like the DS handhelds?

First Generation uMote: DS Phat
Second Generation uMote: DS Lite
Third Generation uMote:  DSi

Lastly, Nintendo could still make money from an accessories market, but they would have to create new stuff. For example:

  • Wiimote Plus with built-in rechargable battery and magnometer.
  • Wireless nunchcuk and adapter for Wiimote.
  • A DS and 3DS player for the Wii U.
  • An arcade cabinet similar to the iCade for the uMote.
  • A light gun that uses the uMote.

How in the hell would an arcade cabinet work for a tablet-style controller? And the light gun attachment was shown in the Wii U trailer during E3 2011.

Pandora's Tower will be announced for North America.

Not during the Japanese presentation. Iwata usually announces games specifically for the Japanese market, since the video is produced in Japan, for Japanese gamers.

I don't think tendo means only MM should get to make the Nexus, just wondering why they don't make it too since Google owns them.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: E3 2012 Predictions
« on: April 18, 2012, 09:36:24 PM »
F-Zero, if it happens at all, I'm convinced will be from Monster Games.

Nintendo should just buy out:
  • Monster Games (ExciteTruck/Bots),
  • Next Level Games (Mario Strikers series, Punch Out Wii),
  • Good Feel (Kirby's Epic Yarn, Wario Land Shake it)
  • Grezzo (Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Four Swords DSiWare)
Each of these companies has primarily made games for Nintendo systems, and they've done a damn good job at updating classic Nintendo franchises.
