Man, when was the last time an internally developed Nintendo game scored this low on the site?

Off and on I've been feeling kind of "meh" towards Super Mario 3D World, but then I watch that trailer again and find it so joyful and fun looking.

OK, I actually this looks pretty amazing and fun.  My biggest question, though, is whether Luigi/Peach will be playable in single-player mode.  If this is like NSMB and only Mario is available for single-player...

Remember Reggie's comment last year that Retro was working on something "everyone" wanted them to make?  I...just...gah...are you really that out of touch with the fanbase Reggie?  I think the game will be great, but I mean come on!

What. A. Mess.  Either way, if the demo list doesn't include the new 3D Mario I'm not sure if it's worth me driving an hour.

I know it's more a gaf thing to post weird dreams about E3, but I promise this one isn't freaky.

In a dream I had last night, Reggie was speaking in the Nintendo Direct and he said:  "We have told you that we are going to officially announce the new 3D Mario and Mario Kart games today.  What I can now tell you is that these games are, in fact, one and the same!"

Apparently, subconsciously, I really want a go-kart based 3D platformer?

E3 needs to come now just so my brain can go back to normal... :-\

I'm trying to get the word out that it appears Best Buy has removed a CRAPTON of stores from the E3 demos list.  Unless there's a mistake in the website, Ohio appears to down to ZERO stores, New Jersey and Virginia down to just two, etc. etc.

So if you were planning on going to a store for the event you NEED to re-check the site to make sure your store is still there:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Games-Promotions/Nintendo-Experience/pcmcat303600050002.c?id=pcmcat303600050002

If this is for real, what a gigantic **** up.

EDIT: I just counted and the number has gone down from 89 to 54.  So 35 stores were removed from the list.

So the one at 4 PM sounds like it's just a recap of the Nintendo Direct from the morning?  That doesn't make any sense.  Either way, I'll be plopped in front of my television for all of them!

Ummm...Yoshi comes out next week.

I'm pretty sure each Thursday all games are posted that are coming out between then and the next Thursday.  Since Yoshi is coming out on Wednesday it just barely misses the cut for next week's article.

I've thought long and hard about it, and I think I'm going to skip on New Leaf.  Much like the Harvest Moon series, I think I've passed the time in my life (read: teens) when I had the patience and dedication for open-ended games like that.

If anybody in the DC area is going to the Best Buy in Maryland, I'll be there that Saturday afternoon.

136
I'm a little confused.  Does this mean I can finally play single player with the pro controller?  Or is this update only for players 2-4?  I would love to be able play the whole game with the pro controller by myself.

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 338: Turning Things Around

I feel the need to point out that within one episode the guys proclaim that Nintendo will never release E3 demos to the public AND have their amazing prognostication powers (jokingly) referenced.  This, coupled with the Pandora's Tower AND Earthbound hilarity earlier this year, I've decided that you guys are wizards.  Whenever you make blanket statements about things Nintendo won't do that we wish they would, practically the next day it's announced.

138
I'm particularly interested in trying out Tails Adventure.

139
I also think the 3DS will be fine without a large E3 presence, but I get the feeling that Neal's disappointment probably stems more from the fact that he will be attending E3 and wants to play the 3DS games coming down the pipeline.

140
I hope they announce soon if it's going to stream for the public or not.  It's a time-honored tradition for me to take off work to watch these presentations, through thick and thin, shitty presentations and amazing ones.

I'm really enjoying this game, however, in reference to its slow pace, I was playing it late last night and I totally fell asleep in the middle of solving a puzzle.  I woke up 3 hours later to find Toki lookin' just as perky as ever.

I would have been a little pissed if this news had come out before the game was released but now...well, it seems like no great loss.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Does Pikmin qualify as a strategy game?
« on: March 03, 2013, 02:11:08 PM »
I don't think it's accurate to call Pikmin just a strategy game.  What makes the series so interesting is its amalgamation of several different genres.  There are certainly traditional RTS elements, mainly managing units that have different abilities.  These strategy elements are used in very clever ways for solving environmental puzzles (in this series, even the bosses are often basically puzzles).  So if I had to throw words together to make a subgenre for Pikmin it would puzzler-action-strategy.

It's downloading now (seriously Nintendo, get your act together re: your servers) and I'm so excited!  The original was in my top 5 games for last generation (download or retail!).

I don't get it.  Why can't the feature use the native WiFi of the 3DS?

I'm SUPER THRILLED with the chapter titles I devised.

It's too bad my iPod doesn't scroll chapter titles; I could only ever see the first few words.

I just started Fire Emblem: Awakening and I'm enjoying it a lot!  This is actually my first turn-based strategy game.  I played a lot of RTS's in the late 90s, early 00s (gotta love those live-action cutscenes in Command & Conquer!) but the turn-based subgenre just never seemed like it was for me.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Direct Coming Thursday
« on: February 13, 2013, 09:28:05 AM »
Oh man, I hope it's not a 'Reggie-direct'.  The videos hosted by Reggie are always soooo boring.  Even when the information itself is exciting, they're boring.

How about a video of Iwata just soothing us, promising that everything will be OK, games are coming, just be patient.

After a little research, I've decided my least favorite Q1 is 2000.  As far as I can tell the only game Nintendo published during that period was Ridge Racer 64....so yeah, least favorite.  Now I know that gaming industry was waaaay different back then, but still that's a particularly sorry quarter.
