Just reading about all the narrative threads in this film gets me nauseous. It smells more like Marvel attempting to close up loose ends for the REAL AVENGERS CINEMATIC EVENT STARRING EVERY CHARACTER YOU'VE EVER VAGUELY WONDERED ABOUT in 2019.

But I won't lie, that is one of the best-looking Iron Man suits since the Mark III.

If you didn't see Loving Vincent then I feel bad for you, if the Academy votes for Coco over Loving Vincent then I feel bad for them.

Loving Vincent is one of the best films of the year.

EDIT: CHEESE AND CRACKERS THE ACADEMY IS A GROUP OF UNCULTURED SWINE. Coco was the better-distributed of the films, Loving Vincent is superior in every damn way.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Switch Discussion Thread (Nearing Year 2)
« on: March 03, 2018, 01:17:43 PM »
So, one year in, what are your thoughts on the Nintendo Switch? The past year has been one of the best for my personal tastes in gaming: the most time-consuming and organic Zelda title to date in BotW, a lower skill-ceiling fighter in ARMS, a large balance patch in Splatoon 2, a return to absurd FPS in DooM, one of the best combat systems in a JRPG in Xenoblade 2, and even a shitty Mario game. That's not even accounting for the number of indie titles that have been extremely high quality- Master Blaster Zero, SteamWorld Dig 2, Snipperclips, and even a shitty Sonic game.

While Switch has had (in my opinion) the strongest launch year in Nintendo history, it's future is certainly uncertain, as the focus on build-your-own peripherals, strong emphasis on third party ports rather than new content, and mediocre first party software lineup leave a bit to be desired. While some might argue that the best Wii U titles are great additions to the current library, they're still old news, much like the numerous ports on display from third parties. Likewise, Kirby and Yoshi are hardly standout titles, and with no landmark titles on the horizon (even accounting for a a Smash 4 port, an uncertain Pokemon Switch, and potential Pikmin and *snort* Metroid Prime 4), the Switch's second year seems primed to be something of a lull.

Still, it's hard to argue that, on the whole, the system boasts an already impressive library that easily surpasses the Wii U. If a continued momentum is any hope, however, Nintendo needs to start dropping some more substantial hints at new quality experiences, rather than ports and far-off sequels.

I am shocked as well. I thought X might pull off a narrow victory but to see 2 have such a high percentage is not what I expected out of this poll. 1 made it to the top 4 in the March Madness polls years ago and I thought it would have more support than 2 seems to have. Plus, sales of 2 haven't exactly been astronomical and with it only being out for 3 months, I figured there'd be less people who may have gotten around to playing it yet whereas 1 and X have been out for years. Could people vote multiple times? Maybe the polls were broken. (Or maybe there is a silent majority that really loves 2.)
Better check in with Clex. He’s known for lovingly rigging voting systems in favor of an inferior product.

That the voting for XC and XCX is so close is very telling, however, I’m baffled by XC2’s victory. While I love all three of these games for different reasons, they only barely eek out one another in terms of quality, and each game has a strength. However, based on how I view these games, there’s really a clear winner.

XC has a great aesthetic and tone, and it’s combat is commendable if only for its variety in play styles. It’s world design, music, and story are better than XC2.
XCX has a nuanced story and numerous systems that may overwhelm a player, and it’s combat is a bit more homogenized than the other titles. It’s world design and story are better than XC.
XC2 has a fantastic battle system. And that’s really it. It isn’t superior to the other games in any way other than some minor quality of life changes, which I don’t think is fair to factor into iterative releases.

But I guess there’s no one to really argue this with, the results have spoken and people favor XC2. I just don’t really understand why, but hey, I have very specific tastes.

I realllllly didn't want to like the Switch as much as I currently do.

But Diablo 3? Jeez, go ahead and destroy my free time.

Have you ever been outspoken about something posted on a website but since you're just a forum member people won't take your opinion as seriously as a person who posted something on said website?

...I just have a lot of feelings.

Since getting costumes is probably the only reason I'd pick this game back up again, I guess I should give Balloon World a try.

And Xenoblade 2 has the worst...

Get your asses onto your poor unused 3DSs and get the demo. It’s great and should really telegraph the difference in pacing, structure, and complexities of the game in comparison with The Legend of Legacy. While the former is great, this game looks and feels like a marked step up from its predecessor, and it’s just a demo so far.

Man, do I got some OPINIONS about this.

But I’ll stop myself from saying anything too negative, only I can’t help but ask- who is this guide for? I’m assuming people who have reached Mor Ardain or Tantal will likely understand the mechanics of this game and/or have found better grinding spots.

You are asking someone who just wrote an absurd amount of text on all three games about his preference.

In spite of the numerous strengths of each Xeno title, the clear choice here is Xenoblade X. While the original is a classic and we wouldn’t have the series without it, the sheer ambition and successful execution of numerous concepts present in X is incredible, and it’s much more substantial layers of depth give it an edge over its bookends.

Check out my in-depth reviews ofbeach game on the forums, by the by!

We’re not getting a new Smash Bros.

If we do, I will punish myself by not buying it. Happy?

Yeah, NEW Smash games usually get the insane hype train- if a new game were to be announced AND released this year, if would give almost no time for that hype train to get moving.

Adrock hits it on the head. The Smash 4 tournament scene has just lost one of its major players in ZeRo and the meta is very Bayonetta-heavy as of right now. The best thing they could do to cause a resurgence in the game’s popularity and viewership is add Ice Climbers, Wolf, etc to offer more matchups for Bayonetta to deal with- and likely give her a few nerfs to encourage more matchup diversity.

Not saying I think Bayonetta is broken, but her playstyle is vastly different from any other character and that is causing a lot of toxicity in the community as of late.

However, hoping for new fighters, especially from the Western/indie scene, is pretty fruitless.

It's the sixth Smash Bros. game, certainly. But if it's based on the same systems as Smash 4, then it will be a new version of Smash 4.

Brawl and Smash 4 are not the same game. Melee and Brawl are not the same game. They have the same characters but there are a number of key differences that set them apart. Smash 4 3DS and Smash 4 Wii U are as similar as you can possibly get in regards to replicating the same fighting mechanics on two different systems.

Smash 4 3DS is the Street Fighter IV 3DS edition of Smash 4.

I'm not trying to be contrarian, or anything. Yes, Smash 4 3DS has Smash Run and Street Smash, and Smash 4 Wii U has the Hand Challenges and whatever that stupid board game mode was, but they're just additions atop a base game. It's like saying Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for Wii U is a completely different game from any other version because it has Tekkenball.

This is Smash 5.

Smash 4 3DS and Smash 4 Wii U were essentially the same game. This one is likely going to be the same case, so really we should just call it Smash 4 Switch.

So, I took a break from the dismal angst of War the Horseman and dove into Dandara.

It's good. It's most certainly not a Metroidvania, as it shepherds players onto the critical path far too often. But it does so many really great things with the limitations of its design that it's impossible not to feel satisfied upon completing it. Well, unless you use the last sub-weapon unlock to completely cheese the final boss.

Yeah, that's a bit of a downer. So are one-hit kill moves in a game that's about methodical and deliberate movement, but what are ya gonna do. There's enough going on in this quirky title that distinguishes it from its contemporaries, but it's worth a look for its fascinating Afro-Brazilian aesthetics and inspirations. While a number of games that attempt to communicate the culture and/or heritage of a certain region (Never Alone, Year Walk) are usually a bit of a letdown in terms of actual gameplay, what exists here is pretty great, and the story is never particularly overbearing. Oh, and I may or may not have written an article about the figurative economics present in the game. Shameless plug.

Now I gotta play some other garbage to write about.

I think there is a hint of a theme going on with each chapter so far.

Chapter 1: Europe
Chapter 2: Japan
Chapter 3: Australia
There's a lot that I could say about this, but if you have inexperience with the series, it's best if I didn't.

That's how all DQ games are, though. A bunch of isolated vignettes strung together with some vague, overarching narrative.
