TalkBack / Re: E3 2015: Lessons to Learn from the Competition
« on: June 29, 2015, 12:08:51 PM »
Thanks! I try to be as unbiased and realistic as possible.

Microsoft and Sony had great shows for very similar reasons. Nintendo had a mediocre showing because they were a bit more conservative about what they were showing. Wait, does that make sense? No, it doesn't. As someone who buys the content and not the hype, the only thing I'm disappointed in seeing from Nintendo is that they didn't have more information on Devil's Third, a game that is, and should have been featured at a show that had games releasing in the next nine months. Microsoft didn't show anything that convinces me to buy an xBox One- backwards compatibility is a feature that should be in ALL SYSTEMS AS A STANDARD, even if it hinders future releases. Our consoles don't last forever and that's an important feature. As for Rare games, I certainly don't give a damn. Sony also confirmed that games and concepts for games that were announced years before are still in development, which is... great, I guess? How does that affect my current purchase of a PS4? Not at all.

Nintendo may have shown nothing surprising, but that doesn't mean their content is disappointing. Again, the games they had on display for the media may have been disappointing, but that only means I missed on less not attending E3 this year, and that's a pretty satisfying feeling. We're a nation built on self-entitlement, and so I'm not going to hate on TYP's feelings because he's certainly entitled to want to play games early because he's staff on a Nintendo fansite, but I'm not going to deny my own feelings of entitlement and say that I didn't deserve all those Nindie demos or treehouse coverage. Also, I don't think that Game Freak title is going to be all that impressive, because Game Freak isn't an amazing developer.

Hilariously, very few of Nintendo's "flaws" seemed evident at home. They showed off an impressive amount of games that are going to actually be released this year. Can the other two companies clearly state that?

Nintendo has proven again that the media doesn't need to drive the description and detail of their content. While I'd say Nintendo's digital presentation was weak on the whole they delivered a great deal of content to Wii U owners and gave a great showing to 3DS owners, as well. I'm sure walking through E3 was indeed a bitter experience, but to post online about how Nintendo slighted the media rather than displayed a healthy library is a bit bizarre. But whatever. To those that watched the Treehouse and got over the fact that Star Fox Zero is going to be a steaming pile of ****, E3 was still a pretty enjoyable experience.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: NX and Third Parties
« on: June 29, 2015, 09:14:31 AM »
This is primarily why I believe the NX will be a 2016 reveal, 2017 release. They need to support the latest "Nintendo machine" as much as possible before they ditch it, which would leave the (small) Wii U fanbase bitter and unresponsive towards their next console- that is, if it is a new home console. If it's a handheld, they can be a bit more lenient, even though the New Nintendo 3DS community is hurting for exclusive games, in retrospect.

Super Paper Mario is essentially an action RPG where the characters have set damage output but increasing health.

That's my mindset, essentially. Nintendo struggles with software droughts on their handhelds and their home consoles- it's just an unfortunate truth of splitting resources. Putting them all under the same roof would help with that issue and cause Nintendo to think of less iterative experiences.

That controller is a handheld. It needs a battery of its own. It looks insanely thin.

I'm not talking about a console, here.

2282
Because paper is neat and Mario and Luigi are not.

It does sound pretty hypocritical.

That video is so blatantly fake it's funny.

First of all, the features it showed off are simply not possible. Wii U games on the go? On a console that thin? Not likely. The swivel screen is also not likely either.

This topic existing after one news article about the NX with little-to-no hard facts is also pointless. There's nothing to discuss about the NX.

2284
The problem with that thought process is that Paper Mario games have better gameplay than Mario and Luigi.

2285
I just wanted to say I enjoyed Khush's post and I agree, a Paper Mario game on Wii U would be my most highly desired title on the system.

While I think it's unfortunate that Miyamoto has that much sway over Intelligent Systems and the direction of the Paper Mario series, I think they could have improved on the mechanics of the RPG without altering the format completely. I also think that Miyamoto does not always know what is good for every type of franchise.

Clearly, but Nintendo is publishing this game in Europe. Why there and not here?

Wait, so the rainbow colored circles mean a homosexual relationship results in a child, right? Otherwise, the MC can have a relationship with any member of the same sex?

You know what's awesome? How Devil's Third has been pulled from the eShop's "releasing soon" page in North America. Makes me so happy to know that Nintendo is serious about publishing a game they picked up an has been in development for five years. It's even better to know that they could have made more knowledge available during E3 about it and pushed it from being a niche release like it's going to be in the other two regions it's announced in!

Seriously, what the hell, NOA? Are you worried your release schedule for 2015 is too stacked or something? Because I can tell you that statement is FACTUALLY INCORRECT.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Splatoon!! WELCOME - TO DYE!

Interesting about Kraken Knockback. I thought the move was a one-hit kill so Knockback wouldn't really matter.

Glad to hear the Ink Resistence buff though. As for the game itself, I find it's something I play for hours, though I guess that's not technically true since I've been getting an ungodly amount of disconnects lately, which is starting to become frustrating. While grinding gear (which is very often) I have a go-to set for spreading ink and gettin points that's usually what I use for Splat Fests, though it's less functional on certain maps so I do find myself switching between gear and weapons. Custom Blaster, N-Zap, and the Gal are my most frequently used, and I'm certain I will use Luna when I he the chance to buy it. I am not a fan of the other weapon types- I see their tactical use but I hate their lack of mobility. That being said, I have used the Inkbrush a lot and it's the only roller I feel proficient with, though it's close- range game is awful. I prefer weapons with precise, powerful range but I refuse to deal with charger times. Also, point sensors are a waste of a secondary.

That's all I got for now.

I guess my club still has only one member.

Speaking of under-appreciated franchises, how about Chibi Robo? F-Zero? Custom Robo?

I don't feel the need to talk to people in Splatoon, Smash Bros, and I probably will play Zelda with my friends close by.

So, I guess I don't care.

Eh, whatever. I found the structure of this game a bit hard to to follow, anyway.

This is the exact mindset I have issue with.

All about that Drunk Mario.

Also, I thought the Eggman topic was where the game was continuing, so my bad.

2296
Something I've found is that if you play the second first, you enjoy it more than the original. It maybe goes the opposite way.

I will stand by the things I have said for a longtime about Sticker Star- it is a decent adventure game, where you're solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles with a battle here or there, more like Zelda II in its structure. But it's not an RPG, and Intelligent Systems flat-out stated that in the Iwata Asks for the game. They called it a "Sticker Battle Adventure" which is exactly how I'd put it. In terms of presentation and music, it's worth a (heavily discounted) look, but the battle mechanics are disappointing (though not without depth) and the puzzles are infuriating at times.

2297
Yes, that's the one.

2298
I believe you can accumulate money from certain probes on the frontier net, as well.

2299
Oh, hey. You may remember this topic being about how I hate that Paper Mario has no personality anymore. But now that there's a new game being announced, maybe Intelligent Systems can figure their **** out and make a proper successor to The Thousand Year Door! You can discuss that here, or read up on the original discussion:

With the recent news of Paper Mario being a guest character in the latest AlphaDream title, I'm just about fed up with how Nintendo has been treating this franchise. I guess I'm in the minority of people who think that, when this series actually WAS an RPG, it was superior to the Mario and Luigi series in just about every way. Overworld traversal is easier and not convoluted, the battle mechanics were more streamlined and engaging, and the dialogue was more charming and not deliberately trying to make you laugh. It was just funny.

What's worse, though, is that from what is being featured in Paper Jam and as evidenced by Super Paper Mario and Sticker Star, it's clear Nintendo doesn't know what to do with the character anymore. His gimmick is obviously being made of paper, but each title since The Thousand Year Door has focused less on the simple mechanics of a decent RPG and more on paper shenanigans. While I would say that Sticker Star's aesthetics were by far one of its best qualities, the over-reliance on Stickers was not a good turn for the series. Paper Jam is supposed to incorporate elements "from the Paper Mario series", but let's be honest- Paper Mario never had ridiculous paper mechs and few of his special moves had to do with what was shown off in the demo. Nintendo seems to think that Mario and Luigi makes Paper Mario defunct as an RPG series when a fan of that series couldn't disagree more.

Some might argue- "hey, at least they're still MAKING Paper Mario games." But I think a franchise that has continued iterations that suck or miss the point of the original are still being neglected. Why stop at Paper Mario? I'm sure people have a list of franchises they would like to list grievances about! Sometimes, it's better to just let it all out. I could say a whole bunch of stuff abou Intelligent Systems and AlphaDream, but what are some of your thoughts on franchises?

I found money aggravating to find in Xenoblade Chronicles. So many quests had items that maneuvering my inventory to figure out what I could and could not sell was always a hassle.
