Ah, see... Camera AI is another story. Yes, there is little camera AI. I guess I just prefer direct control, especially in exploitable environments, which the galaxy games do terribly. I see my appreciation of the camera and its functions no differently than how some people play through flawed character action games and convince themselves the poor design choices are worth appreciation.

You use the term "atrocious" quite freely. What exactly is so bad about it? It has centering, focus, and free handling modes.

Galaxy's camera has far worse flaws, in my opinion.

Because the level design is markedly non-three-dimensional in Galaxy, in that it's perspectives are focused on showing you only what you need to see rather than letting you see what you want to see. In playing Super Mario 3D land, I noted how obvious the hidden stars are, or how simplistic the paths to obtaining them can be. Because you become so accustomed to not-seeing what you want in those titles, it's now obvious where things are hidden. This has an adverse effect in Sunshine, where secrets are hidden in much more obscure places because it's so easy to spot things with your camera.

There's a definite trade off in specific titles, but Sunshine's movement and caned a systems are far nore impressive than subsequent titles in the series.

Super Mario Sunshine:

Holy god, how the hell is this camera this bad? After playing about 80 stars into Mario 64 upon its Virtual Console release earlier in the year, I can decidedly say this game's camera is considerably worse. I just can't get past it, even with the fudge of the hover nozzle the platforming here is quite a bit less precise than something like Galaxy. I'm not sure I can make myself go on with this.
The camera is sensitive enough that you can wipe it to get a better angle during fast-paced platforming. A rookie mistake most people make with the camera in Sunshine is keeping it insanely zoomed out when it excels in the mid range. There's a certain rhythm to Sunshine, especially when using the hover nozzle, that allows for multiple camera readjustments. If positioning the camera isn't important to you in 3D platformers, then I can't really say much more to convince you of its merit.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist
Woof. I've played Splinter Cell briefly with a friend, doin local co-op, but he more or less guided me though the level and I did as I was told. With the recent Ubisoft sale I decided to give this series a proper go. The game seems to delight in throwing the player into crappy circumstances with under leveled abilities and taunting them with objectives they could in no way complete with a particular play style (ghost, panther, and assault). That being said, when the game does give you time to plan out approaches and hide yourself and your gadgets properly, it's extremely rewarding and satisfying. I was a bit embarassed playing co-op online however, as I was unfamiliar with the map and died many times in different ways. In any case, the missions have been mostly fun so far but I'm going to grind some money so that I'm better prepared for what is to come.

Maybe technically low in quality.

Itagaki remarked that those who aren't able to enjoy the game just suck at it.

Honestly, I respect Valhalla much more for seeing the product through to the end rather that having Itagaki drag himself to Kickstarter like a few other developers have done, with drastically varying degrees of success. Sure, it might not be the best game, but at least they didn't ask me for my money to make a mediocre title.

There is so much wrong with both the premise & execution of this topic's original rant that I just have to move on or I'd be at this all night picking it apart. "The Only Winning Move is Not to Play" and all that. Suffice it to say that blanket statements are fun, but it's nice to have specifics and, perhaps, examples to back up inane ranting.  As it is, this is just a circle jerk.
My my, it seems like something struck a nerve. Seeing a lot of yourself in that initial rant, my dear Broody?

In all seriousness, though, I think there's enough toxicity in a number of different, vocal parts of the gaming community that it's hard to focus a single rant on just one. There's an entitled, uneducated bunch who expect the latest hardware and software to dazzle them at every turn. There's an overly sensitive and defensive portion who believe that artistic and social representation in games needs to be the direction that the medium must progress, there's an overly nostalgic portion who sticks too closely to their beloved franchises and developers despite staff being shifted and switched out with the inevitable flow of time, and many other subgroups that I don't care to mention. There is one bottom line, though, and that is, gamers feel that their time is precious and are offended at the idea that a bad game that is long could take up so much of their time, which is usually why critique is so harsh. Look at most of us here, we're all outspoken on certain titles, developers, etc that don't cater to us or appreciate us in the way we feel should be NECESSARY, but then again, there's tons of low-budget, independent, and/or bizarre films out there that we choose not to indulge in because we feel it isn't made for us. Some people need to simply grow up and understand that works for a number of mediums, not just your favorite pasttime.

I think the bosses are easily the worst part of Hyrule Warriors, they take FOREVER to kill and usually involve just holding the block button until they show their weak points, then rinse and repeat 4 times over. The rest of the game though is great.
And here I am, blowing through an Agnorok and two Manhandlas every six minutes.

Why do you count Splatfest games?

I think the servers focusing only on people from a specific region makes connection issues easier. I had three uneven matches, myself.

I was pretty sure I could get some decent wins if my team followed me and pushed hard enough. I had a handful of absolutely ruthless wins where I darted into enemy territory and did a solid Inkstrike that held the other team at bay while mine caught up and filled in the blanks. But I found a lot of level 15-under players weren't used to such aggressive play and hung back too much.

You can't play Splatfest like normal turf wars.

I played with some pretty damn incompetent Water Slide teams, which was frustrating, especially after going hard and winning a number of games.

The results don't surprise me.

I seriously hope you're joking.

What Nintendo recommends and what works are two completely separate beasts. The majority of what they reset might work with its own power source, but that's not the most cost-effective solution by far. I'm using a 320GB add Frove from around 2010 and I've not had any issues.

It says something about Wii U that even the die-hard Nintendo fans are port-begging for handheld versions of games. It's even worse than the people begging for Bayonetta 2 to be multi-platform.

It's nothing against the Wii U - It's simply my playstyle.  I spend more time playing my 3DS than my Wii U, just because my Wii U isn't as portable.  My power adapter in my car only has two outlets, which plugs in my Wii U and a small TV, with no room for the hard drive...
I think the real lesson to learn here is that UncleBob is too tech illiterate to purchase a Y-Cable that allows a normal hard rice to function on a Wii U. They go for about 8 bucks on Amazon.

You're welcome.

Two of the many PS classics I've played have had heavy stuttering in some shape or form, though Vagrant Story has had far less than Symphony of the Night. However, a PS1 classic like SotN should NOT have stutters. I'll continue playing to let you I so my thoughts.

Of course, sometimes it just means the fanbase is loud enough to express their opinions about it and make it seem like it is a largely enjoyed game. Which, it might be. I'm not saying it isn't.

Dragon Warrior Monsters 2:
There's actually two different versions of this game, mimicking Pokemon's formula with a few more notable changes, but like I said with Digimon- if you like monster collecting but are looking for something a bit more traditional, this game has got you. Featuring a lovely GBC soundtrack from the games composer of the franchise as well as an interesting story that far exceeds the original DWM in many aspects, the game just feels good and is quite substantial. You might need a guide if you're looking to make a specific monster with the breeding system (fairly complex for a GBC RPG), but otherwise, it's a relaxing and cute installment that we will never see the remake of because modern Square Enix hates the west.

Shin Megami Tensei IV:
As someone who has recently become quite enamored with Atlus (having played very few of their pre-PS2 titles), I've missed out on some of their series, but I decided to jump right into SMTIV and see what all the fuss was about. To say the game is hard is overselling it a bit- the game just features several difficulty spikes in which the player must experiment upon new demons and catalogue their strengths and weaknesses. The first six hours are truly a test of dedication, but once the game opens up a bit and gives you freedom to complete challenges and explore, SMTIV becomes a surprisingly lengthy and continuously rewarding experience. There's a few technical and mechanics aspects that seem questionable, but overall it looks, feels, and definitely sounds like a full-fledged console RPG on a handheld, rather thanone designed for the limitations of the 3DS. The story isn't that great, but it is wacky... And edgy.

Crystal Warriors:
You thought I'd talk about a strategy series like Fire a emblem first, didn't you? WRONG. Crystal Warriors is an SRPG released for the Sega Game Gear, so it's not exactly a well-known title. While it features pretty standard affinity system (water, fire, earth, wind, light, shadow), it's highly portable nature, especially on 3DS, allows the player to not worry too much about their choices. Another feature unique to the game is it's summon system, where there are roaming, unaffiliated mobs that the player can engage and, once defeated, become a summon for the character that slew them. It allows a little bit more of a EXP grind for under-leveled characters, and the summon can also be used to tank hits from enemies. As well as having their own elemental affinity, summons are a key element in strategy and character building that offer a great deal of replayability. It's not a mind-blowing SRPG, but it is surprisingly well-constructed and fun for a cheap timesink.

I bought this piece of **** back when Amazon had a lightning deal for it a few months ago, and I essentially use it for filling out my PS Classics and to pick up the random titles that pop up on flash sales, etc. A lot of the classics have pretty glaring frame rate issues and can be aggravating to play, and I've yet to pick up an actual Vita game for the system because the compatibility list is so spotty and most of the best games are not actually playable on it. Still, it was 45 bucks, and I got to experience the wonder of dealing with PSN's awful fund-adding system, so I'm no entirely disappointed in it. I'll probably feel much more positive when I start playing through Vagrant Story.

I can't imagine Miyamoto's decisions making all that much of a difference this late into the development of the NX, then again, he did push for super stable 3D but that was necessary.
