Kirby-Man, Kirby-Man, does whatever a Kirby can!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37273/this-week-in-releases-april-27-2014

This jam-packed week brings superheroes, Mario Golf, and Kirby to Nintendo systems.

Wii U

The Amazing Spider-Man 2- $49.99, April 29

Based loosely (it isn’t just the same story) on the movie of the same name, Spider-Man returns in an all-new web-slinging adventure. Expect an open New York City to explore, like many Spidey games of the past.

3DS

Gardening Mama 2: Forest Friends- $29.99, April 29

Without revealing too many spoilers, Gardening Mama is getting a sequel this week. Players partake in gardening mini-games in order to grow over 50 different kinds of plants. Decorate your garden and spend time with Mama’s friends in multiplayer. Do you have what it takes to garden?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2- $29.99, April 29

This week just keeps on getting more amazing, with Spider-Man having not one but two games. The 3DS version is developed by High Voltage (remember The Conduit games?) and we don’t know much about it besides that there is no free-roaming New York City to explore.

Legends of Oz Dorothy’s Return- $29.99, April 29

If you like mini-games, then here is something special! Based on the upcoming movie of the same name, play as Dorothy and partake in mini-games in four different game modes.

Kirby Triple Deluxe- $34.99, May 2

Kirby finally gets a 3DS game. After years of tension in the Nintendo community, and the uproar of millions over his absence on the system, Nintendo has caved in. Well, all that might just be in my head, but Kirby Triple Deluxe does arrive this week. This time, King Dedede is kidnapped, and there is a Smash Bros.-style fighting mini-game to play! I’m really excited for this one, too bad I spent all my money on my trip to Nintendo of America Headquarters to protest the lack of fair Kirby representation on 3DS.

Mario Golf World Tour - $34.99, May 2

Mario Golf: World Tour is finally here. Apparently it is pretty good too. NWR Site Director reviewed it and liked it a lot After playing Mario Golf on the N64 recently, I hope it really is good, because that game has not aged well at all.

Lots of games to choose from this week, leave a comment, and let us know if you plan on purchasing any of these titles.

Bayonetta 2 hits the Wii U this week. April Fools! Oh wait, it's Easter, oh sorry.

Wii U

You could never conceive what this week's game is!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37162/this-week-in-releases-april-14-2014

This week gives birth to one 3DS game.

3DS

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars- $39.99, April 15

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars is the sequel to the Japanese PSP exclusive, Conception: Ore no Kodomo o Undekure! (Conception: Please Give Birth to my Child). Standing alone with its own story, Conception has players create parties to fight monsters. However, these parties are based on the male protagonist's interactions with the game's females. Yes, you make children so they can fight for you.

Come by next week for more game releases. Also, let's all start a petition to make the third Conception game star Kirby!

TalkBack / Sudden Impact: A Look at a Retro Gaming Store
« on: April 09, 2014, 06:17:35 PM »

With a booth at PAX East, Sudden Impact offers a lot of retro gaming wares.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37121/sudden-impact-a-look-at-a-retro-gaming-store

If you have gone to PAX East previous years, you may be aware of a gaming store in the Greater Boston area know as Sudden Impact. Along with their booth at PAX, Sudden Impact is located in Winthrop Massachusetts. Besides current video games and gaming systems, the store specializes in retro video games.  As a reader of this site, a location such as this may appeal to you, so even if you can’t go there, you can still experience the store vicariously through this feature.

I have visited the store multiple times over the past year to purchase items such as an N64, a GameCube, Pilotwings 64, and Super Mario Sunshine. Their collection of gaming goods goes far deeper though with available games and systems going as far back as the Atari 2600. While most anything can be found online these days, nothing on the Internet provides the same surreal experience as walking into a store in 2014 to see never opened SNES systems, in box, and ready to be played.

Sudden Impact opened in 2009, and is named after the Clint Eastwood spaghetti western of the same name. The owner, Dom Cerulli, decided to get into the retro gaming business after 32 years in the auto retail business. After the last 18 years spent as a manager of a large Toyota dealership, he got the idea to open a video game store after walking by an empty storefront while recovering from a back injury which occurred while he was working. It was the perfect time to act on a new venture because he recently lost his job. Dom is no stranger to video games due to his interest in the art in games. He is also an artist and still uses his skills in order to make custom gift cards and store window murals.

Upon opening the store, Dom would receive trash bags of no longer wanted old games and systems. At the time he was selling N64 systems for around $20. Today, items are acquired through many means, be it customers looking to sell or trade, and from other stores including a retro gaming store in Alabama that closed. This store closing, excitingly, enabled Sudden Impact to stock up on copies of Shantae for the Game Boy Color.

Prices range greatly depending on condition and rarity. While everything is guaranteed to play, there are some items that are available new in box that you wouldn’t expect. Specifically a R.O.B. in its original box, never opened. You can even find Virtual Boy systems, boxed Philips CD-i consoles, and Powergloves, which are indeed “so bad.” Other collectibles are also available. I personally love the store’s Kirby and Pikmin merchandise.  Customers can also find items from less expected games, like Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

As previously mentioned, Sudden Impact will be having a booth at PAX East 2014. If you can’t check it out there, you can also check out the website here.

Mario goes golfing and you become an artist in this month's rewards.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37076/super-mario-world-leads-aprils-club-nintendo-games

Four new games are available as rewards on Club Nintendo this month.

The games included are Trajectile, Super Mario World, Art Academy: First Semester, and Mario Golf.

A DSiWare title, Trajectile has you bouncing missiles around to solve puzzles. For 200 coins, you can download it on 3DS eShop.

Super Mario World is a classic platformer. If you have never played it you are simply missing out on an important piece of Nintendo history. Originally launched with the SNES, this game propelled Mario into the 16-bit era in what many consider to be his finest 2D adventure. You can download it for 200 coins exclusively on the Wii U.

Learn to be an artist in Art Academy: First Semester. This DSiWare game teaches you the fundamentals of art. So maybe you won't become a world famous artist, but for only 200 coins, you can improve your skills, only on the 3DS.

Lastly is Mario Golf for the N64. Downloadable on the Wii Shop Channel on the Wii and Wii Mode on the Wii U. For 250 coins, you can join up with Mario and friends in his first 3D golf outing.

Get 'em while they're hot! These games will only be available until May 11.

The 3DS bring us a magical Disney world that doesn't encourage you to buy figures.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/37069/this-week-in-releases-april-6-2014

Another LEGO game this week, LEGO The Hobbit. Of course, just to make things better for Wii U owners, it doesn’t come out on that system for another two weeks. Yay third party support!

3DS

LEGO The Hobbit- $29.99, April 8

Another week, another LEGO game. This time we enter the world of The Hobbit, based on the trilogy of movies that are based on one book. How did they manage to make it into three movies? I have no idea. Anyway, in order to play co-operatively both players need the game. No download play on this one. You could also wait for the Wii U version to come out, but for some reason it was delayed until the 22.

Disney Magical World- $29.99, April 11

Have you ever wanted to live in a Disney world that didn’t require spending life savings just to make your kids happy, only for them to be spoiled brats when you get there. To make things worse, your plane has a layover but you miss getting on the other flight because you are stuffing your face with soft pretzels and Cinnabon and...oh god, why is life so harsh? Damn it Mickey! Oh well, you can play this game and avoid all that in this Animal Crossing style game.

As always, come by next week for more releases, unless of course there aren’t any.

TalkBack / GameSpy Ending Game Hosting Services at the End of May
« on: April 05, 2014, 02:46:36 AM »

This is why Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online features are ending.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37060/gamespy-ending-game-hosting-services-at-the-end-of-may

GameSpy is ceasing hosting of online games on May 31.

GameSpy, owned by Glu Mobile, was the basis for Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection services and their closure gives a reason as to why online play for games on Wii and Nintendo DS are ending. This not only affects Nintendo games but also many other games on different systems which used GameSpy for their servers. According to the GameSpy website, it will be up to the publishers to decide if and how online services will continue.

Nintendo games affected will all be ending their services on May 20, a little more than a week before the GameSpy shutdown.

TalkBack / Renegade Kid Starts Cult County Kickstarter
« on: April 03, 2014, 09:09:00 PM »

Originally revealed as a 3DS eShop game, the game has taken on a new form.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/37050/renegade-kid-starts-cult-county-kickstarter

Cult County is now on Kickstarter, with a funding goal of $580,000. The game will be developed by Renegade Kid, the team behind the Dementium DS games and recent eShop title Mutant Mudds.

Cult County is a first person episodic survival horror game. Taking inspiration from both Telltale's The Walking Dead and classic survival horror titles like Silent Hill, Cult County is a narrative driven game. The story centers around Gelvin  Mellick. While trying to find his sister to tell her of their mother's ilness, he arrives in a small town in west Texas during a sizable dust storm, and his encounters clue him in on the cult that has moved in known as the "Dust Devils."

Originally announced for the 3DS a year ago, Cult County will now be developed for the Wii U and other platforms.  Like other Kickstarters, supporters will earn different rewards if the fund goal is made, for example, a $15 pledge grants five episodes of the game upon their release. You can contribute to the Kickstarter here.

TalkBack / LEGO The Hobbit Preview
« on: March 28, 2014, 06:57:23 PM »

The journey was unexpected, this game wasn’t.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/preview/36984/lego-the-hobbit-preview

Following the success of many LEGO games, including LEGO The Lord of the Rings, comes LEGO The Hobbit. The game tells the story of the first two Hobbit movies, An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug, which are both based on the J.R.R. Tolkien book The Hobbit. LEGO The Hobbit allows players to take a journey through Tolkien’s fantasy world, albeit a slightly more blocky version of it.

34.png

Many staples of the LEGO video game franchise still exist within The Hobbit. Numerous collectibles and characters to play as are definitely expected in this “unexpected journey,” however there are some new features to freshen up the formula. Many of the playable characters this time around are the various dwarves who join the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, in his quest to retrieve a special treasure protected by the dragon Smaug. Along with the dwarves comes a new element of gameplay, that allows players to team up with the dwarves in combo moves. This “buddy up” system lets you to control multiple dwarves in tandem for unique attacks. These are especially handy, and necessary, for boss fights. Those who have played The LEGO Movie: The Video Game, will recognize the building sequences from that game incorporated into The Hobbit. Players are tasked with completing builds by picking the correct pieces, similar to how one builds a LEGO set in real life. These events allow you to collect large amounts of studs, which can then be used to buy more unlockables.

Fans of previous LEGO titles, going all the way back to the original LEGO Star Wars, will be happy to know this, like almost every other console LEGO game, features local co-op play. That means you never have to journey alone while exploring the world of Middle Earth. If you haven’t played a LEGO game recently, you may not be aware that they now feature voice-acting. No longer are the mini-figure characters bound to yelps and groans, instead they have fully-voiced dialog. This, coupled with many locations from the movies, should make for an immersive version of the story of The Hobbit, filled to the brim with typical LEGO humor.

LEGO The Hobbit arrives on April 8 in the US and 11 in Europe. It will be available on both the Wii U and 3DS, although the 3DS version will most likely differ significantly from the home console version, like past LEGO handheld games.

After a long absence, This Week in Releases is back! Every week I’ll tell you what games are coming out in the snarkiest manner possible. This time around, Activision brings titles to both Nintendo’s current systems.

WiiU

Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts - $29.99, March 25

The Cabela games have been getting new entries since the days of the GameCube. This time around, you get to go hunting with multiple hunting icons (apparently there are famous hunters) in the most realistic Cabela hunting experience to date.

3DS

Cut the Rope: Triple Treat- $29.99, March 25

Seriously, Cut the Rope is now getting a cartridge release for $30. I don’t know how this happened, but it is probably your kid’s fault. Seriously, kids these days, back in my day I played Mario. Now today all they play is uh…. Oh wait. Anyway, you cut ropes to feed candy to a monster in a collection of three games, Cut the Rope, Cut the Rope: Experiments, and Cut the Rope: Time Travel.

Wow what an exciting week for this feature to return. Just remember, Smash Bros. is still coming, so don’t jump off the Wii U ship just yet.

TalkBack / Nintendo's Value Improves Upon Opening of Chinese Market
« on: January 11, 2014, 02:44:26 AM »

Nintendo is valued higher than Sony

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36329

Nintendo's market value has risen to surpass Sony with the opening of the Chinese market, following China's decision to lift the ban on consoles earlier this week.

Upon the suspension of the Chinese console ban, Nintendo's stock prices went up by 11 percent, and Nintendo is now valued at $18.4 billion. One of it's main competitors, Sony Corporation, (the parent company of Sony Computer Entertainment) has dropped behind, coming in at just $17.7 billion. This figure is based on all aspects of Sony Corporation, such as music and motion pictures, and not just the PlayStation brand.

There is speculation that 3DS sales and rumors of an upcoming change in Nintendo's business model have also contributed to the rise in stock. However, if poor Wii U performance continues, it is predicted that these numbers could take a hit at Nintendo's next earning's report.

An exercise game gets a physical release.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/36316

The new year is always an exciting time for people who hold a fascination with numbers. Those people get to tell you all fun facts about what 2014 really means while you ponder your existence. Also new games.

Wii U

Wii Fit U (With Fit Meter) - $49.99, January 10

Wii Fit U (With Fit Meter & Balance Board) - $89.99, January 10

The first big Nintendo release of 2014 is a game that has actually already been out for a few months. Wii Fit U is the newest title in the exercise gaming craze and, from all accounts, is the best. Our own Scott Thompson gave it a 9 and probably had some good reasons for the high score. I wouldn't know since I don't like games that judge me.

Wow, with Wii Fit U out what else could Nintendo have to amaze us with? The start of 2014 means the start of a whole another year of some good, and plenty of bad games.

94

This is just like one of my Japanese animes!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36307

Bandai Channel is offering anime streaming to Japanese Wii U consoles.

The service gives users free, unlimited streaming of first episodes from hundreds of shows. Those who want to see more than just one episode of a series can subscribe by buying a Bandai Namco ID, which costs 1,050 yen a month.

Bandai Channel offers up around ten thousand episodes from many different shows, including ones like the Gundam series and Sgt. Frog, and it is only available in Japan.

95

Now can we please get some N64 games on the Wii U Virtual Console?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36225

TurboGrafx-16 (known as PC Engine in Japan) and MSX games are getting Virtual Console releases in Japan.

The Wii U will be receiving Bonk's Adventure (TurboGrafx-16),for 600 yen and Parodius (MSX) for 800 yen. The Nintendo 3DS is set to get China Warrior and Gradius (both TurboGrafx-16 titles) for 600 yen. All of these games are being released on December 25.

There is no information available on if and when these games will come to other territories.

TalkBack / New Details Emerge for Kirby Triple Deluxe
« on: December 12, 2013, 05:17:58 PM »

One thing is for certain, this game is going to suck!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/36183

New details have been revealed about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS title, Kirby Triple Deluxe.

The official website for the upcoming game has showed off many new gameplay and story details. When King Dedede, Kirby's reccurring foe, is kidnapped by Daranza, the game's villain, Kirby goes on an adventure to save him. In order to do this, Kirby must climb a beanstalk like plant, called the World Tree, to go to the Kingdom of Floarald, while collecting sun stones to take on bosses.

There looks to be about 20 possible abilities for Kirby to attain including a new bell ability, which uses sound to attack, and a horned beetle ability, where Kirby spikes enemies with his horn. Different videos on the official Triple Deluxe website, showed multiple uses of the 3DS's motion controls, tilting to move kirby in a glass bowl of water is just one example. StreetPass is used in the game to trade key chains, each key chain has an image from Kirby's history, there are over 250 to collect.

Kirby Triple Deluxe releases in Japan on January 11, no release date has been announced for North America or Europe.
