Remember the Wii Vitality sensor? So does Iwata.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34865

The Wii Vitality sensor was never released because it was "insufficient as a commercial product."

During Nintendo's shareholders meeting, President of Nintendo and CEO of Nintendo of America Satoru Iwata was asked for an update on the Wii Vitality sensor. In his response, Iwata revealed that it would not have been functional for everyone, saying that only 90% of people would have been able to use it after a company-wide test of the product proved to be unsuccessful.

Iwata was sorry for the lack of updates after the product's announcement, citing the lack of updates on the realization of it not coming to the market.

TalkBack / A Link Between Worlds Use of Buttons Over Stylus Explained
« on: July 03, 2013, 07:52:14 PM »

The focus on 3D makes touch controls difficult.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34840

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of multiple Legend of Zelda games, discussed why The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds uses button controls rather than the touch screen.

The reason for the abandonment of touch controls in A Link Between Worlds is because of the implementation of 3D. He put it very succinctly, saying that "it’s hard to play with a stylus when you have 3-D on the top screen," likely referring to the angle at which the 3DS must be held to properly see the 3D effect.

Aonuma says of the two DS Zelda games that he "had to take advantage of the touch screen. And using the stylus created a lot of opportunities for introducing new surprises and a lot of new fun."

Jools says that a physical copy release aimed at collectors is being looked into, and says that "The only way we will be able to make such a thing happen is to turn to kickstarter." He cites a DS Kickstarter, Diamond Trust of London, as an example of how it could work.

It is still not certain whether this will happen, but Jools says he has already contacted Nintendo to learn the details of what a physical release would take.

TalkBack / The 'Not at E3 Bystander' 1st Annual NWR Unofficial Awards
« on: June 19, 2013, 04:43:48 PM »

Zack was not included in the planning for the NWR E3 Awards, so this happened.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/34724

So apparently since I wasn’t at E3 I wasn't allowed to help with the E3 awards. Well I don’t subscribe to that “logic” and decided to make my own. Yep, I gave out these awards in a secret ceremony that happened in my head. Expect to see them listed on the box for said games when released.

Best use of a Kirby: Super Smash Bros.

The new Smash Bros. has Kirby in it. It was the only game at E3 with Kirby in it. Kirby is much better a character than Mega Man; I would actually prefer a Kirby variant character instead of Mega Man.

Worst Use of a Kirby: The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD

There was absolutely no Kirby in this game. Link’s Awakening had Kirby, why can’t this? That’s pretty dumb on Nintendo’s part, and will most likely cost them sales. I mean Besides The King of Red Lions who is Link supposed to talk to when he is out on the ocean? What else can Link do by himself? Please don’t answer that.

Most Disappointing Announcement: Super Smash Bros.

We had known about this for two years, and, come on, Mega Man? Really I want Shulk from Xenoblade Chronicles, or Captain Dante from Steel Diver. What is up with this Mega Man nonsense?

Most Offensive Anti-Nintendo Statement: Aisha Tyler Says Wii U Is an Abandoned Platform

Wii U is an abandoned platform? Then how come games are coming out on it? Sega Saturn is an abandoned platform; they haven’t made a game for it in years!

Best Next Generation System: Ouya

Forget about the PS4, Xbone, and Wii U: Ouya is where it’s at. It has a GBA emulator. Come on Nintendo, why don’t you let us illegally download GBA games for free?  All Nintendo cares about it money, Ouya only cares about innovation. What's more innovative than stealing games?

Most Egregious Use of Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Seriously another Donkey Kong Country game? Sure it will probably be fantastic but that does not make it any less hurtful that Retro Studios is making another one of these instead of a new IP that would play the exact same way but use a new character, maybe one named Bonkey Long.

Best Press Conference: EA

I have to give EA a round of applause for not supporting Nintendo systems. We only buy Nintendo systems for first party games so it does not even make sense to support the system with quality third party titles. Heck, the last time I played a third party game was Phil of the Future on GBA. Come on, no one wants Battlefield 4, it's only looking to be a good military FPS in a sea of awful ones.

Best Virtual Console Game: All of Them

The upcoming Virtual Console games are so virtual, they don't even exist. That is how virtual they are, virtually non-existent.

Worst System: 3DS

Where does Nintendo get off releasing exciting new games on their system? How come we can't get shoddy ports of existing games, like the PS Vita does? Shame on Nintendo; once again there are still no half-hearted  ports of existing titles on 3DS.

All-Around E3 Winner: Sony

Apparently someone always wins E3, even though it is not a contest, and this year it was Sony. They won't be blocking used games in anyway, and will be offering great first party content along with second screen games. What other home console out there is doing that? I can't think of any.

Any awards I forgot to give? Don’t be a stranger, leave a comment.

TalkBack / Nintendo's Free-to-Play Game Is Steel Diver
« on: June 18, 2013, 05:32:42 PM »

Nintendo enters the free-to-play market with Steel Diver.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34709

Nintendo's first free-to-play game is going to be Steel Diver.

First talked about during Nintendo's E3 Analyst Briefing, Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario and Steel Diver, revealed to IGN that Nintendo's first venture into the realm of free-to-play gaming would be Steel Diver. Not a direct port, this Steel Diver game will feature a new four player battle mode, and in his words, "It’s going to be very fun."

It is not yet known how Nintendo will profit from the game, whether it be micro-transactions, or membership, but the game will eventually be released in a packaged form, though no system has been announced. Even though no release date was given, Miyamoto says, "It's something that we're hoping to be able to show relatively soon."

Is the Wii U a next generation platform? Reggie Fils-Aime says it is.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34647

Reggie Fils-Aime, Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America, talked to CNNMoney about the Wii U as a next-gen platform saying “Nintendo is next generation, Wii U is next generation.”

Since the launch of the Wii U there has been some debate over whether or not it should be considered "next gen"; Reggie disagrees because of the innovation he believes the GamePad is bringing to the marketplace. When it comes to low hardware sales he says that there is “one truism about this business, software sells hardware,” and he believes the many popular franchises being brought to the Wii U will make for a strong holiday season.

Reggie also expressed interest in having N64 games to come to the Wii U virtual console.

TalkBack / StreetPass Relay Stations Detailed
« on: June 13, 2013, 01:19:29 PM »

McDonalds can now be called "StreetPass Clown Establishment."

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34632

3DS Wifi Access points located around North America and Europe will soon be used as relay stations for StreetPass.

Announced during Nintendo's E3 Analyst Briefing, an update for the 3DS is coming that will bring new a framework to the system. The framework will enable StreetPasses by passing Wi-Fi access points connected to a special 3DS server. These stations will be found in places like Starbucks and McDonalds, totaling 28,000 in North America and 24,000 in Europe.

It will work by giving users passing by with their 3DS systems in sleepmode StreetPass data from people who had already passed the Wi-Fi access point previously, data which was saved to the aforementioned 3DS server. The update to the 3DS enabling this feature will be coming by this fall.

It may look like a Super Mario Galaxy Game, but it plays like a Sonic game.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34617

An interview with Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka, revealed many details on the development and components of the  upcoming Blue Blur game.

Development of Sonic Lost World started before the team knew about the Wii U. They decided to make it a Nintendo exclusive because of how a second screen "gave us extra options and advantages". He also stated it would be an exclusive because "Wii U is where fans of action platform games are going to."

When it comes to actual gameplay, Sonic Lost World plays like a Sonic game according to Iizuka, though he understands how people draw similarities to Super Mario Galaxy because they both have "geometries with their own gravity." Wii U Pro Controller Support was also revealed to only be possible when used by a second player in multiplayer.

Sonic Lost World releases on October 13 on Wii U and 3DS.

Not really a hole in one.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34606

Mario Golf: World Tour has been delayed until 2014.

The delay was revealed in a chart during Nintendo's E3 Analyst Briefing. The game was originally scheduled for this year but has been pushed back for unspecified reasons.

In the same briefing, it was noted that internal development teams have reached the point where first party titles can be released "without too many intervals." As such, Nintendo expects to release many 3DS titles in 2014, including many unannounced projects along with known 3DS titles like Mario Golf: World Tour.
