Pudgier Nintendo characters better watch out.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35856

The male Wii Fit Trainer will be appearing in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and possibly 3DS.

While the female Wii Fit Trainer has already been confirmed as a playable character, it is not yet known whether the male trainer will be. It is possible he could be a part of a special move, an Assist Trophy, a costume change for the Female Trainer, or even just appear in another aspect of the game.

Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS is scheduled to release in 2014.

TalkBack / The Luigi 2DS Was an Unofficial Fan Mod
« on: October 30, 2013, 07:37:20 AM »

Well, not an official one.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35824

A rumor for a Luigi 2DS we reported on earlier this week has been debunked.

The rumored 2DS in question was actually made by Matthew Wiggins. He made it for his website Rose Colored Gaming, where he customizes and sells modified game systems and accessories, mainly for Nintendo handhelds. The news that it was only a custom came from the YouTube video from Wes De of Second Opinion Games

Assassinate Sonic by any means necessary.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35815

Pirates are abound on the Wii U with the release of Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag. Cover your kid's eyes because these pirates are a bit more violent then the ones found in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. Besides death and mayhem, Sonic's new game is coming out too.

Wii U

Angry Birds Star Wars, October 29 - $49.99

If I know the Nintendo fan community, I know they hate Angry Birds. The irrational fear of the evil poultry comes from the even more irrational fear of Nintendo being doomed because of smartphones. Despite the moaning and groaning, Angry Birds Star Wars is coming to the Wii U this week and it's Wookiee-ing to be a fun game albeit, very expensive.

Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, October 29 - $59.99

Since Ubisoft has delayed Watch Dogs, their biggest game of the year is the new Assassin's Creed title. Following the adventures of Haytham Kenyway's dad, Edward Kenway, you get to sail on the high seas of the Caribbean. Sadly, the Wii U version will not be getting any of the DLC support the other systems are receiving. While I plan on buying the PS4 version, forgive me Reggie but that has more features, this still looks like a lot of fun on the Wii U, and as always Off-TV play is a great.

Monster High: 13 Wishes, October 29 - $39.99

If you love Bratz but wished it was more paranormal, then this is the game you have been waiting for. It's a 3D platformer and it is scary good, see what I did there?  I really can not speak to the quality of the game.

PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures, October 29 - $39.99

The popular Television series based on the timeless video game character has a tie-in game coming out. This 3D platformer features PAC-MAN and all his PAC-MAN-y friends.

Sonic Lost World, October 29 - $49.99

Sonic Lost World is a Wii U/3DS exclusive that has created a great schism among game reviewers. Our own Jared Rosenberg enjoyed the Wii U rendition, I did not feel the same way about the 3DS version.

Wii Fit U Meter, November 1 - $19.99

Wii Fit U is coming to the eShop for free this week, but to own the full version you have to buy the Wii Fit U Meter. A pedometer of sorts, it brings Wii Fit with you everywhere.

Wii

Angry Birds Star Wars, October 29 - $29.99

Same game, different platform, no HD. That is Angry Birds Star Wars on the Wii.

Monster High: 13 Wishes, October 29 - $29.99

A Wii version of the shocking system seller.

3DS

Angry Birds Star Wars, October 29 - $29.99

The 3DS version of Angry Birds Star Wars has 3D, is portable, and is $20 cheaper. This seems like the better buy.

Doodle Jump Adventure, October 29 - $29.99

Another smartphone classic  is releasing on the 3DS this week. Doodle Jump Adventure is all the fun of Doodle Jump, but at a higher price. Why this wasn't just a eShop release? I have no clue.

Monster High: 13 Wishes, October 29 - $29.99

The third version of a ghoul adventure.

PAC-MAN and the Ghostly Adventures, October 29 - $39.99

A PAC-MAN 2D platformer. I wonder if it will be as good as PAC-MAN 2: The New Adventures?

Regular Show: Mordecai & Rigby in 8-Bit Land, October 29 - $29.99

Another Cartoon Network TV show gets a game after last year's Adventure Time game. Like last week with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I really have no clue why this show is popular. Anyways, you can buy the game this week.

Sonic Lost World, October 29 - $39.99

I have played this game for a review and it sucks. Read my full thoughts here.

DS

Monster High: 13 Wishes, October 29 - $29.99

The fourth and final version of this spook-tacular game.

Doodle Jump Journey, October 29 - $29.99

Doodle Jump, but on the DS.

TalkBack / Nintendo Land Price Drop Coming November 1
« on: October 23, 2013, 01:58:02 PM »

Admission to the Nintendo dream park just got a little cheaper.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35792

Nintendo Land is receiving a price drop to $29.99, $30 less than its current suggested retail price of $59.99

This price drop takes effect November 1, the same day as the release of the new Wii U Deluxe Set New Super Mario Bros. U bundle, which no longer includes Nintendo Land. The new price is for both retail and digital copies.

One of the launch day games for the Wii U, Nintendo Land is a collection of 12 Nintendo themed games that take advantage of the Wii U GamePad in unique ways, and originally came with the Wii U Deluxe Set..

Nintendo Land gets the boot in favor of a New Super Mario Bros. U bundle.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35790

A new Wii U Deluxe Set bundle packaged with New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U is releasing on November 1.

This bundle, replacing the current Nintendo Land Deluxe Set , includes both Wii U New Super Mario Bros. games on one disc. Like the current Nintendo Land bundle, it will also include the Deluxe Digital Promotion which gives owners a $5 eShop code for every 500 points earned, or $50 spent on the Wii U eShop.

TalkBack / Wii Production Ceased in Japan
« on: October 22, 2013, 05:15:47 PM »

The console that changed the industry has ceased production.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35776

Production of the Wii has ended in Japan according to the official Japanese Nintendo site.

It's been over six years, close to seven, since the Wii was released in Japan and almost a full year since the release of the Wii U, and now production of the Wii has finally stopped. Nintendo's official Japanese website Wii page now says "production ceased."

There is no word yet on when production will end in other regions.

Marvel and DC face off while the Wii U throws a party.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35756

This week is absolutely loaded to the brim with retail game releases. Batman makes his 3DS debut and Wii U gets the ultimate Marvel game. Beyond that we have Deus Ex and a second Just Dance game coming out in October! To celebrate you can even gather up some friends and play Wii Party U!

Wii U

Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, October 22 - $49.99

Originally planned as a Wii U exclusive, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut releases this week. This Wii U version features GamePad integration and, according to our reviewer Curt, it's very good.

Just Dance Kids 2014, October 22 - $29.99

After the excitement that was Just Dance 2014 you would think Ubisoft would wait a little longer to release another game, but in the same month we are getting Just Dance Kids 2014. If you love to dance, you may want to check it out.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, October 22 - $49.99

The big LEGO game of this fall, Marvel Superheroes, just may be the largest LEGO title yet. Over 100 playable characters and an open-world LEGO New York make up a brick-tastic looking game.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge, October 22 - $29.99

Plankton's Robotic Revenge may not seem that interesting to most, but I think this game could be fun considering it has 4 player co-op. Even if it sucks, nothing is better then playing a bad game with friends.

Batman: Arkham Origins, October 25 - $49.99

The other super hero game this week, Arkham Origins, is the third game in the Batman Arkham series. While the Wii U version is $10 less then other consoles, it also lacks online multiplayer, but does include GamePad exclusive features. So this one may take some thought when deciding which console to get it on.

Wii Party U, October 25 - $49.99

Packed with a Wii Remote and GamePad stand, this mini-game collection has over 80 mini-games. There are also some interesting looking GamePad only games. While I may not be a fan of the mini-game collection genre, this should be good.

Wii

Just Dance Kids 2014, October 22 - $29.99

More dancing. We all wanted that right? Right? Anybody?

SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge, October 22 - $29.99

A joke of some sort, I am being forced to write about this SpongeBob game four times.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, October 22 - $29.99

Based on the current Nickelodeon series of the same name, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brings all the action and excitement of what can only be described as genetic mistakes to the Wii.

3DS

Hometown Story, October 22 - $39.99

Hometown story places you in a small town where you must run your grandmother's shop. If that doesn't sound exciting, I really don't know what is.

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril, October 22 - $39.99

The handheld version of LEGO Marvel Super Heroes has the subtitle Universe in Peril. Beyond that we don't actually known a lot about this version. I wouldn't expect an open-world New York City though.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge, October 22 - $29.99

SpongeBob is also making an appearance on the 3DS this week in the same game as on other platforms.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, October 22 - $29.99

You know I don't understand the appeal of the Ninja Turtles. I neither grew up with them or care to learn more about them, but despite that, the 3DS gets another licensed game and I have to tell you about it.

Batman Arkham Origins: Blackgate, October 25, $39.99

The Batman Arkham series comes to the 3DS in Blackgate. Exclusive to handheld systems, Batman goes to Blackgate prison in an action packed side-scrolling Metroidvaina style adventure.

DS

LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril, October 22, $29.99

The DS is getting some LEGO super hero action in what can only be assumed to be a downgraded version of the 3DS entry.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton's Robotic Revenge, October 22 - $24.99

SpongeBob's final game this week. Yes, this game is coming out on every current Nintendo platform.

Anything look good this week? Be sure to come by next week for more game releases.

TalkBack / Sonic Lost World Review
« on: October 18, 2013, 07:42:01 PM »

No amount of "meh-edgehog" puns can save Sonic from mediocrity.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/review/35748

Being the biggest, and one of the only, Nintendo third party exclusives of this fall, Sonic Lost World gave many a gamer high expectations that it would deliver a fun, unique platforming experience to the Nintendo 3DS. Sadly, Lost World faces many problems that hinder it from being that game or even just a fun game at all.

Sonic Lost World is mainly made up of three different kinds of zones. 3D zones, 2.5D zones and Boss zones. Peppered between them are highly compressed cutscenes that look like they came off of a Game Boy Advance Video cartridge. Each kind of zone offers different gameplay experiences, and all of them have their fair share of issues.

In 3D zones, Sonic traverses game environments using old and new abilities. While all these zones are set in 3D environments, some are much more linear than others. Levels like Zone One of Windy Hill have you traveling in almost only one direction: forward. Thankfully there are multiple paths to complete these kinds of zones, but they still feel too simple. Other 3D zones are exploration-oriented, but are filled with large amounts of repetition. Players are tasked with defeating a set amount of enemies or pushing large apples, snowballs, other objects many times over. This creates a sense of sameness that. at times, made the game rather monotonous.

The ways in which you move in the game were the most entertaining part. With parkour, a new addition to the series, Sonic can run and jump off of walls. This new gameplay element comes into play when finding alternate level paths.

The 2.5D zones were the most entertaining, but also the most frustrating.  These side scrolling levels do a good job of creating a sense of speed, however, platforming can be finicky; bouncing on clouds is an absolute nightmare. Sonic’s movements feel stiff in the air, despite your best efforts with the Circle Pad or D-pad. This combined with a lack of knowing where to go made falling to your death a constant battle.

Boss battles in Sonic Lost World feel like a joke. They are incredibly simple and feel forced into the game, for no other reason besides finding a way to use the “Deadly Six” outside of cutscenes. After finding the simple solution to each boss, you simply performed it a few times, and then the battle would be over.

With the help of Tails, items such as RC vehicles can be crafted and used for a limited amount of time in most areas using elements earned at the end of each zone. You can also earn them by paying with Play Coins.  Color Powers have returned as well, and they are the only way to complete many zones. Color Powers come in the form of Wisps. Each Wisp gives Sonic a special ability, such as becoming an iron ball that can roll over enemies and temporary walls using the Grey Wisp.

Outside of the main game, there are a fair amount of other activities to partake in. Online multiplayer is present, which allows you to race and battle other players. Unfortunately online play was unavailable to us at the time of writing. There is also a Time Attack mode that challenges gamers to complete zones using only one life as fast as possible.  There are also motion controlled special stages which are the only way to find the seven Chaos Emeralds, but they are broken and hard to play due to controls that are uncomfortable and a requirement that you move in 360 degrees.

The overall presentation of Sonic Lost World is fair at best. While colorful, nothing in this game looks particularly interesting. There was prominent ghosting when the 3D was turned on, which made the game too confusing to play. The is a highlight as the soundtrack features catchy, but not annoying, tunes.

Sonic Lost World is filled with many missteps that make it disappointing.  Instead of being a good Sonic game, it is just a below average 3D platformer. Despite his speed, the blue blur could not keep up with anyone’s expectations of the game, nor be entertaining in his own right.

The 3DS remains number one.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35745

Since the price drop of the Wii U, sales have gone up over 200 percent in the United States.

Reporting 15 days of sales data, the price drop of the Wii U Deluxe Set from $349.99 to $299.99 has improved sales of the Wii U signifigantly, over 200 percent. Nintendo also credits the sales increase to The Legend of Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle.

Sales of the 3DS have stayed strong with it remaining the number one selling system in the US for the fifth month in a row.

TalkBack / Sonic and the Story of a Franchise Reborn
« on: October 16, 2013, 12:20:03 PM »

Many successes within recent years have put Sonic back on the gaming radar.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/35713

Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most influential video game characters of all time, making him an obviously important part of the gaming industry. Back in the days when Sega was making consoles, Sonic could be found everywhere, cereal boxes and McDonalds Happy Meal toys included. Times have changed, however, and so has Sonic. When Sega discontinued the Dreamcast in 2001, less than two years after launching in North America, Sega became a third party game publisher and Sonic no longer had one specific console to call home.

Since Sega left the hardware business, Sonic has managed to survive on other systems, including Nintendo’s handhelds and consoles along with competing systems and mobile devices. In many cases, it has been a bumpy ride, but Sonic has managed to collect his rings after a stumble and move on to bigger and better titles.

Many gamers who feel Sonic has “lost his way” point to Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 as the first “next generation” Sonic game, this is considered to be the low point in the Sonic franchise. Despite mediocre to awful reviews, it sold relatively well worldwide, but the bad taste it left in many people’s mouths has hurt the perception of the franchise since.

As time went on, so many Sonic games were released with poor reviews that Sega started taking action by delisting Sonic titles with “average” scores on Metacritic in 2010. By taking these poorly received titles off shelves, they hoped to “increase the value of the brand.” Though speed may be the focus of Sonic games, quality over quantity has proved time and time again to be the real key to a thriving series. With that in mind, the Sonic franchise has experienced a rebirth within only the past few years.

In the last three to five years, Sonic has seen a big turnaround. Much of the series’ success lies in less conventional titles. A series exclusive to Nintendo platforms, the spin-off sports game Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games was a substantial success, with the two sequels that followed also selling well. They may have not been popular among game reviewers, and it did help that the name Mario was in the title, but either way, it put Sonic in a game that appealed to the Wii masses. 2010’s Sonic Colors on the DS and Wii was an example of the long-needed critical shot in the arm the franchise needed.

Other spin-off titles have also reviewed well, like Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed have performed well and reviewed admirably. Other examples of series successes within recent years have been found on smartphones and tablets. Since mobile gaming exploded, with the likes of Angry Birds and Cut the Rope ruling, Sonic has made a name for himself with re-releases of classic Sonic games like Sonic CD.

While Sonic might not be found as abundantly as he was in the 90's, taking a look around, it seems that Sonic still has life in him yet. Go into any Toys R’ Us and you will see Sonic plush toys abound. Turn on the TV in the morning and you may just find Sonic X repeats running. Visit a local comic book store, and you’ll find Sonic the Hedgehog comic books, including a recent crossover with Mega Man. Even the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has had a balloon of modern Sonic since 2011.

For one day a year, Americans gather around their dining room tables to give thanks to Sonic.

Sonic’s place in the fast moving game industry used to be trying to catch up with his rivals, releasing game after game in order to maintain a wavering franchise. There has been a major turnaround in Sonic within the past three to five years, and this looks to be continuing with Sonic Lost World, a game exclusive to 3DS and Wii U.

TalkBack / This Week in Releases: October 13, 2013
« on: October 13, 2013, 08:37:23 PM »

Unlike Skylanders, you can't swap out this week's releases.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35697

What do you get when you cross video game sequels based on a reality show and Activion's cash cow? You get This Week in Releases! Skylanders is the big one this week, and of course it is on multiple platforms, each sold separately.

Wii U

Skylanders: Swap Force Starter Pack - $74.99, October 13

When I think of huge gaming franchises the first thing that comes to mind is Activison. Not only do they own Call of Duty, but they are also responsible for Skylanders. This year's installment requires a new portal of power which allows you to swap pieces of Skylanders out to make new character combinations. I would be interested in this game if it featured characters I know and love, maybe Disney characters. Sadly nothing like that exists.

Wipeout Create & Crash - $39.99, October 15

If you know me you know I'm a huge fan of the TV series Wipeout with its uh.. wipes and outs. Okay, so I don't watch this show, but if you like competing in physical competitions without moving a muscle then you just might love this Wii U release.

Wii

Skylanders: Swap Force Starter Pack - $74.99, October 13

The Wii is not being left out this week. You can also play Skylanders on the old box o'fun. Just like other Wii multiplatform games, it will be less sharp looking, and obviously does not use a GamePad.

Wipeout Create & Crash, October 15

All the fun of Wipeout, all the power of the Wii, all the excitement of a guy writing about it. Not much else to say that has not already been said.

3DS

Skylanders: Swap Force Starter Pack - $74.99, October 13

If you haven't had your fill of Skylanders, you can also play Swapforce on the go. The 3DS entry has 3D, unless you play it on the 2DS.

Wipeout Create & Crash, October 15

Wipeout on the 3DS is upon us. Hide your children because you can not escape this game.

TalkBack / Kirby Is Coming and You Better Be Ready
« on: October 12, 2013, 01:43:19 PM »

Kirby 3DS hype and Wii U dreams collide in one super cute blog.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blog/35689

Nintendo has taken their dear old time bringing Kirby to the 3DS. Seeing as how the little pink fellow had four outings on the DS, it’s hard to believe it took so long for Nintendo to bring the franchise onto their current handheld. Well the wait will soon be over, and I’m excited. Before I start making preparations to pitch a tent for the midnight release, I’ll give you insight on why this is particularly awesome.

Believe it or not, the new Kirby 3DS game is really something to get excited about. Think about it, after The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds what else do we have releasing on the 3DS? More Mario? Considering we have already gotten 14 (by my count) other Mario titles within the past year, I think we can all agree, it’s Kirby’s time to shine.

While visually it looks a lot like Return to Dreamland, the teaser trailer showed off some interesting additions to the series. Similar to Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Mutant Mudds, jumping between layers is a new game mechanic that will hopefully optimize the title’s 3D effect. If the two Kirby StreetPass puzzles are any indication, Kirby rendered in stereoscopic 3D will look quite lovely. The trailer also shows off Kirby being squished against the screen which was both humorous and sad for me to watch.

To be honest, Kirby on the 3DS is only whetting my appetite. The first questions I will ask after getting the new 3DS Kirby game is when does the next one come out, and will it be on the Wii U? While it may seem rather corny to get excited about HD, considering competitors have had it since the last generation of consoles, Kirby’s art style looks to lend well to a high-resolution screen. Colors will pop and Kirby will shine. Seeing him rendered in the Smash Bros. trailer was riveting, but it can only get better from there.

If a new Kirby title on the Wii U is coming, then I have a couple of predictions:

A Full-Fledged 3D Platformer - Since ye olden days of the N64, I have wondered why Kirby has yet to receive a 3D platformer.  At one point Return to Dreamland was being made as one, but sadly that didn't happen. No time is better then the present to make a 3D Kirby platformer.

Kirby Air Ride 2 - Plain and simple, a sequel to the GameCube’s only Kirby game. Recently Nintendo found much success with a sequel to another GameCube Classic with Luigi’s Mansion 2, so why stop there? With online multiplayer and HD visuals Nintendo could have a surprise hit with this one.

Crazy Weird Game Utilizing the GamePad, Wii Remotes, and Balance Board- Nintendo is good at doing new things, and they like doing weird things like making you stand up or move, or show any sign of being alive while playing. Maybe we could get that Kirby Disco Skiing game we all want, right?

Whatever Nintendo decides Kirby will do for his next starring role, if they can offer a chance to use new ideas like they have before, Wii U is the platform to do it on. For now though, Kirby’s 3DS escapade is gearing up to be my most anticipated title next year.

You come seeking DLC and salty ol' pirates eh?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35672

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag on the Wii U will not be getting DLC support.

In the announcement for the Assassin's Creed IV Season Pass, the Wii U was not mentioned. After contacting PR representatives, Gamereactor Germany confirmed its absence.

The Season Pass includes an additional three hours of gameplay in a new single player story, along with multiplayer characters and the "Kracken Ship Pack." The Wii U version of Black Flag releases on November 22 in Europe and November 29 in North America.

TalkBack / The Legend Begins in this October's Club Nintendo Rewards
« on: October 07, 2013, 10:58:28 PM »

Link goes on his first journey, and Mario joyrides in this month's rewards.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35660

Club Nintendo offers up Touch Solitaire, The Legend of Zelda, ThruSpace and Super Mario Kart this month.

Touch Solitaire is the game of solitaire, but played using a touch screen. This DSiWare game can be redeemed on the 3DS for 100 coins.

The Legend of Zelda on the NES was the first Zelda game ever made, and is quite well regarded for its influence on gaming as a whole. Playing as the intrepid Link you must recover the eight pieces of the Triforce and save princess Zelda. Check it out on the 3DS for 150 coins.

The WiiWare game ThruSpace is a puzzle game that has you fitting puzzle pieces through walls. The hard part comes when you zoom towards these walls down small tunnels at high speeds. This one is playable on the Wii and Wii Mode on the Wii U for 150 coins.

Super Mario Kart is where the beloved kart racing franchise began. Race with Mario and friends through multiple tracks. Originally released on the SNES, you can play this on the Wii or Wii Mode on the Wii U for 150 coins.

If any of these interest you be quick, they are going to be replaced with four different games on November 3.

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues. Also some niche 3DS game and a new handheld.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35651

If the high of last week's Wind Waker HD release got you all worked up, you may want to sit down. You sitting? Now stand up again because it is time to dance! Exited yet? Plus, the little handheld that could gets a funny looking brother and a new game to go along with it.

Wii U

Just Dance 2014 - $49.99, October 8

Just Dance 2014 is set to offer its signature waggle gameplay. Featuring tracks from many of today's popular "artists", you can dance until you sit down and just move your arms to play the game. Besides dancing for fun, you can also dance to exercise in Sweat Mode, or dance with other people online, a first for the franchise. Exclusive to the Wii U is Party Master Mode, where one player controls the game with the GamePad while everyone else in the room follows whatever changes are made. If you are living alone in a small apartment, this is the game to get!

Wii

Just Dance 2014 - $39.99, October 8

Just like the Wii U, the Wii is also receiving this year's rendition of Just Dance. Expect it to be the same except for a lack of HD, a cheaper price, and no Party Master Mode.

3DS

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y - $39.99, October 12

The elephant in the room, or Phanpy, is the pro animal abuse RPG Pokémon. There has been plenty of coverage everywhere and there will only be more. Find a rock and hide under it, unless you like having fun. This entry has 3D environments and stereoscopic 3D battles. Get it while its hot!

Nintendo 2DS - $129.99, October 12

Nintendo's (former) main selling point for the system has been taken away, along with the clamshell design, and now we have the 2DS. It displays all 3DS games in 2D, it has the same battery as the original 3DS, but will probably sell a heck of a lot more units this year then the 3DS did in 2011. It is less expensive, and the games are still great. If you have yet to buy into Nintendo's current handheld, now is the time.

Anything sound interesting too you? Be sure to come back next week.

TalkBack / Nintendo Showing Off Oodles of Indie Games at IndieCade
« on: October 05, 2013, 07:44:49 PM »

So who said the Wii U doesn't have any games?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35637

IndieCade is seeing a large Nintendo presence with numerous games being shown on the 3DS and Wii U.

Located in Los Angeles, IndieCade is the International Festival of Independent Games, and as such, features many indie games and their developers. Nintendo's booth is showing off a sizable number of Wii U games:

  • 1,001 Spikes

TalkBack / Shadow of the Eternals Has Been Placed 'On Hold'
« on: September 30, 2013, 06:59:31 PM »

It's not dead, it's just taking a nap.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35569

Shadow of the Eternals is being put on an indefinite hold according to Denis Dyack, Chief Creative Officer of developer Precursor Games.

The game was in development for the Wii U, among other systems, but has faced many problems on its journey. The first Kickstarter for the game was canceled shortly after being announced, and the second Kickstarter failed to reach its funding goal.

Shadows of the Eternals was planned to be the spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness.

We have seen Link on boats, trains, and birds. Now all we need is to see him in outer space!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35547

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is the main attraction of this week's releases. Join Link on the Great Sea where there are no government rules and you can party like it's 2003. What an exciting week to be a GameCube, um... I mean Wii U owner.

Wii U

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD - $49.99, October 4

In order to stay relevant and to sell systems, Nintendo is releasing a new HD remake of The Wind Waker. Wind Waker HD was declared the best Zelda game by the staff here at this fine website, and our own Site Director gave the new HD version a 10. If you have never played this game, like me, you should probably pick it up.

3DS

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl - $39.99, October 1

This remake of the original Etrian Odyssey is optimized for the 3DS with 3D graphics and new music. Resident Texan and NWR editor Justin Baker reviewed the game, so for his sake, read it.

Rune Factory 4 - $39.99, October 1

This sequel to the Harvest Moon spin-off series finds stuff happening to things. Honestly, I have no clue what goes on in these games and if I didn't write for this site I wouldn't look it up. However, according to the Internets it involves amnesia, monsters, and relationships. Sound interesting?

That is it for this week. Looks like I'm done with this one. Be sure to stick around for more fun with all your video game pals!

TalkBack / Mighty No. 9 3DS Stretch Goal Added
« on: September 29, 2013, 02:11:38 PM »

The new game from Keiji Inafune could be coming to the 3DS eShop.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/35548

Mighty No. 9 may come to the 3DS if a new Kickstarter stretch goal for the game is met.

If funding reaches $3,500,000, the game will be ported to the 3DS, along with the PS Vita, most likely by Abstraction Games, the team behind the Vita port of Hotline Miami. As of this news story, funding has reached $2,889,027 with a little more than two days to go.

Mighty No. 9 is already set to be coming to the Wii U along with other systems. Before the 3DS stretch goal, the game will have to pass two others, including one to bring the game to the PS4 and Xbox One.

I'm Batman.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/35493

This week may not be packed in releases, but it does bring three new titles to enjoy on the 3DS and Wii U. Though two of the games are a part of the Scribblenauts series, I'll still try not to make this too wordy.

Wii U:

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure - $59.99, September 24

If you are a fan of the DC universe, and have an extensive knowledge of its inhabitants, then I have a game for you. With upwards of 2000 characters, Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure is the latest game in the Scribblenauts series. Besides a large amount of DC Comics characters, it features classic locations and the ability to change in game items and characters with adjectives.

3DS:

Hakuoki: Memories of the Shinsengumi- $29.99, September 24

Feel like romancing men in 3D with a Samuari twist? You are in luck because bachelor, excuse me, game #2 features all of this and more. A visual novel you get to play as Chizuru Yukimura through multiple stories while enjoying new 3DS features including a photo booth.

Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure- $39.99, September 24

If you are interested in the 3DS version of this game read the Wii U description. I'm not going to write a new witty description for what is just a less expensive version of the Wii U title. I'm also not going to tell you it features the same gameplay.

Check back in next week for some more rip-roaring Nintendo fun.
