Nintendo Gaming / Re: Metroid Prime Trilogy for $85 Question

Those are both very good points.  Perhaps I'll give online a shot.  I think there is a return policy after all.

I'm very interested to see how this goes down...  I'll keep folks posted if I do this.  Anyone else jumping in?

EDIT: Apparently if you use the code GUST15 you can get $15 off the order.

Thanks for the reply and the tip!  Good luck with your decision.  Sorry to hear that the international rates make it tough.  This collection is definitely a gem.

GUST15 is definitely one of the promos I wanted to use.  Thanks for spreading the tip.  I think you can stack with SAVER here in the US, which adds free shipping as well.  That's one of the main reasons I want to try an online order.  I'm just worried it won't be 100% as you are also concerned with.

Probably depends on the GameStop and what they got in. Really, just look at it before you buy. As a rule, I never buy used games unless it has the original cover and manual. You're looking for the steel case so that's pretty difficult to miss.

Thanks!  Good point.  I was hoping to buy online (using some promo codes for $15 off and free shipping  ;) ), but it's probably best to see it to ensure.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime Trilogy for $85 Question
« on: August 18, 2013, 01:48:26 PM »
Hello all,

I have a question about this Metroid Prime Trilogy Gamestop ‘deal’ that’s going on right now.

As many of you are probably aware, Gamestop is selling this most excellent trilogy for $85.  I’m one of the people who snoozed too long and missed out on this when it was new.  :-[

I am interested in this $85 copy, but I want to know if this comes with the steelbook case, art book, manual, etc.  They are pre-owned, but rumor has it that some of the ‘vintage’ games Gamestop is selling are ‘like new.’  This seemed to be the case with many of their Xenoblade copies.  :confused;

Does anyone have experience with this?  Does anyone know if these games are coming complete with all original contents/packaging minus shrink wrap?

Thanks!  :cool;

Great review!  Thanks for shedding some light on this.

It would make no sense at all for this to not be released in the West (after all, how much is there to localize, and isn't this a great cash-in?); however, has this been confirmed for the West yet?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Worth Getting More Nunchucks (Gold even) & 'Motes?
« on: November 26, 2012, 02:12:30 PM »
Thanks for the input!

I did end up ordering one today.  I'm in the same boat you're in, Adrock.  I do like a few things up there, but there's not a lot...  Besides, this one is practical.

That 3DS card case is indeed pretty slick.  I bet they'll bring that one back since it was so popular.  That was my favorite Club Nintendo reward so far.  I hope you get a shot at one soon!

Nintendo Gaming / Worth Getting More Nunchucks (Gold even) & 'Motes?
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:24:45 AM »
Hey guys,

If Nintendo does in fact bring back the Gold Nunchuck reward on Club Nintendo today, I have a dilemma: is it worth it?  For that matter, is it worth getting more Wiimotes and nunchucks at all?  :Q

I have 2 'chucks and 4 'motes (only two with Motion Plus though).  It'd be great to have more for Nintendo Land (for Metroid Blast, of course); although, I do have a friend that can bring some over when we all play.  However, I'm not sure I'm going to always need an excess of Wii Remotes and nunchucks in the years ahead.

900 coins is a high price on Club Nintendo.  It's a very high price, and will eat up more than half of my stash.  :Q   I'm not sure how I feel about doing this if I'm never going to need 3+ nunchucks.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or gone through this dilemma themselves?

BTW and FYI, this offers a great way to get a new Wii Motion Plus Remote for less: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10870696 ... Same dilemma!  :cool;

I just want to say that I really love this thread.

Thanks.
That is all.

Just one spot. It's like the digitizer film isn't quite uniform.

Bummer that you have the issue too.  Sorry to hear.  I was wondering whether this problem was isolated or not.  Thanks for responding though.  I'm glad yours isn't too noticeable!  Happy gaming!

I noticed a slight rainbow effect with the screen off and tilted, but it's not noticeable while the Pad is operating.

Thanks for responding, Aaron.  That's good to know.  Is it the whole screen you see it on, or just part?

Mine has three large spots that are visible with and without tilting it and with the GamePad on and off.  In some lighting, it's less noticeable, but everyone I've shown it to so far has agreed it catches your eye.  :Q

I lucked out though!  Best Buy really came through an hour ago with an awesome solution for me that will let me use this console and this GamePad for now and, then, when they get a new one, swap out just the GamePad.  This allows me to keep all my downloads/saves/data/NintendoNetworkID/etc. by keeping the same console, while getting a good GamePad when they get more consoles in stock.  I'm really thankful to them, and Best Buy just earned my gaming business in the future!  ;D

Did anyone else get a GamePad with a damaged screen?  Mine has three very large and permanent rainbow marks that look like a screen does when you press your thumb into an LCD.  Does anyone else have this (either extreme or slight)?

I'm trying to decide what to do because Nintendo said they can't cover 'damage' under the 90 day warranty of the GamePad even if it arrived that way.  However, they said they'd make an exception in my case since I called so quickly and set up a repair (not a replacement or advanced replacement, though).  Best Buy agrees this sucks and is willing to replace the whole console, but they have no idea when more will come back in stock.

Anyone else?

Thanks!

I would love a new blast corps game, but could they get rid of the dump truck? Worst....vehicle....in the game.......or at least rework it handle better for smashing things.  Could never get the last gold medal I needed to explore........well I won't spoil that surprise for those who don't know about it. :D

LOL!  Excellent memories of frustration...  ;D

Nintendo Gaming / Fantastic Zelda Tribute - Just Sharing

Hey NWR Community,

A while back a fantastic tribute to The Legend of Zelda hit YouTube.  I know, I know... add it to a saturated list, right?

Anyway, I was reminded of it recently and rewatched.  It's fantastic, and I wanted to share:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngGcpKOi44k

I can't believe it has under 1500 views.

TalkBack / Re: The Great Pre-Wii U Backlog Saga
« on: July 19, 2012, 12:31:04 PM »
My backlog stresses me out.  :-[   I'm not even kidding.  If I were to count the actual number of games in it, it would only make me even sadder and more stressed...

However, knowing I'm not alone in this is comforting.  Also, humor is great medicine for my plight.  Thanks for the post!  :cool;

Then again... When I see titles listed by others that I didn't play or buy, I can't help but find myself saying, "gee, I really should have played that too!"  This is why I have an Excel sheet that is becoming a backlog to my backlog.  Perhaps, I shouldn't read all of the posts here after all...

FIN!

I have a conclusion, and will provide it for the benefit of any others going through anything like this...

My 3DS has returned from Nintendo HQ.  Here's what they did this time:

- They replaced the touch screen (brand new screen) to fix the scratches added from repair at the East Syracuse, NY repair center.

- They replaced the top screen cover again (perhaps it got damaged again during this repair).

- They replaced part of the housing to fix screen wobble.

The result:

I have a little screen wobble.  It's nowhere near as bad as after I got it back from the first repair, but it isn't as perfect as it once was (I suppose I was just lucky before).

Both screens are completely scratch free.

The bumpers on the top screen have been raised by 0.2mm (perhaps enough to prevent future scratching).

Best of all: my data is ALL 100% INTACT!  The unit remained the same, so no data was lost.  ;D

Best of luck to any others out there who deal with this.

TLDR: 3DS is in good shape after repair at Nintendo HQ.  I'd advise anyone getting repairs done to request they be done at HQ.  I did not have a good experience with the licensed repair center in NY.  Also, Nintendo Customer Service is absolutely incredible!  :cool;

Thanks to all who commented!

Maybe there's room for an "Excite ___" version of Blast Corps... "Excite Demolition!" or something...

I like you're thinking.  The next Operation Rainfall?   :P: :

42
Well, there's a kind of sort of not-really related clone called demolition inc. for pc.  It's not really a clone but the basic idea is just to blow **** up in clever ways, which I'd love to see a game of right now.  Just a game with a collection of levels that introduce different mechanics for blowing things up.  It'd be pretty fun, especially as a mobile game where you'd pick it up for short play sessions, blow up a couple cities or one city a couple different ways, I think it would work well.

Yep.  Demolition Inc.  Cool stuff.  And check out the other one from my other post called DETOUR (http://store.steampowered.com/app/92100/)

43
Rare technically published the Banjo games themselves. Nintendo just marketed it for them. Nintendo did actually publish Blast Corps. though.

Wow.  I did not actually realize that.  That's good information to know.

Actually, put it like that, why hasn't there been a Blast Corps. clone PERIOD? Some smaller independent third-party really should grab those game mechanics and build a title around it, they'd already have a built-in audience from all us Nintendo die-hards who got it on the N64.

That's a really great point.  I don't know why.  In fact, I looked into that a bit wondering if there were some games that slipped through the cracks.

Indeed, there's nothing quite like Blast Corps.  However, I did dig up these:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/92100/

and this:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/98600/

Neither of those are quite like Blast Corps, but given the current conversation and my recent day-dream, I am actually intrigued.

No straight-up clones that I can find though.

Something tells me it might be a weird Nintendo and Rare both own the rights sorta thing...or it is just Nintendo's and they don't want to do another one.

That very well could be the case.

However, given that Nintendo didn't jointly hold Banjo Kazooie rights (sadness, BTW), the more I think about this, the more I worry Rare has it all.

The idea can't be all that unique though.  Leveraging the basic concepts and renaming it can't step on too many toes...

If Nintendo does own the rights, they really should farm out the project to one of those external third-parties they like to work with so much.

Agreed!  It'd be excellent, and there are lots of worthy developers that could pull it off.  Also, thanks for seconding the opinion that 3D effects would be perfect for this, Kairon!  Good stuff...

Ah well.  It's fun to wish...

edit: It doesn't look that big in this article: http://www.p-nintendo.com/articles/reportages/exclu-pn-a-teste-la-3ds-xl-232121

You're right.  It really doesn't look terrible.  Definitely bigger though.  My speculation goes back and forth.  Here's another interesting link: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/07/3ds_xl_comparison_gallery

Sometimes it looks huge to me.  Other times, it doesn't look so bad.  That's part of the reason I was interested in how DSi XL owners feel about it.  This is going to come down to feeling it for me.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!  Like many of you, I'm just going to have to see how this thing feels when I get my hands on it somewhere!

About the image quality on those large screens, take heart:
http://kotaku.com/5921563/first-3ds-xl-hands+on-previews-report-improved-3d-clear-graphics

You can visit the link, but the article title sounds promising :)

It does look nice.  I really does...

I would like it for Wii U.

Especially with the awesome idea of flicking out the Gamepad to do the dump truck slide.

Agreed!  Good thinking.  :D

But, man, do I ever wish I could carry around a true 3D version of this game in my pocket...  :-\

Nintendo Gaming / Blast Corps 3DS - A Day Dreaming Post - Seconded?
« on: July 10, 2012, 11:25:01 AM »
While sitting at work, I had a day dream about Blast Corps for 3DS (remake or follow-up ... it doesn't really matter, does it?).  :cool;

This game is so well-suited for the 3D effect, and I would give so much (particularly $39.99) to play this game concept again.  Street Passing high scores, etc. would be another delight.   ;D

I know the rights probably belong to Rare ( :'( ), but I can't help but dream.

Does anyone second this wish of mine?

Your fellow day-dreamer,
EJtheK

I got my 3DS back yesterday and everything was saved. All that's new is a Street Pass from Mississippi.

Great news!  I'm glad it worked out.  :D

My 3DS is on it's way back to me from Nintendo HQ.  They told me they kept the same unit but replaced the housing, the screen cover, and the touch screen.  I'll post the conclusion to my saga here for the benefit of any future NWR readers that encounter anything like this.  Here's to hoping the data is intact...

Thanks again for all the responses!

Nintendo Gaming / 3DS XL Mobility Question
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:43:05 PM »
Hey everyone,

From the FAQ that NWR posted, the 3DS XL will be around 1.5X the volume of the 3DS.  That's a decent increase, but the L x W x D dimensions don't actually seem awful.  However, these dimensions might be just at the point of making a portable system not so portable.  3DS portability is critical for me ... partly because I'm addicted to Street Passing, and partly because I do like to game on the go (lots of work travel, etc.).

Are there any DSi XL owners out there that can comment on this?

Also, can any DSi XL owners comment on the resolution situation (is it noticeable to have a larger screen with the same resolution ... in a bad way)?

Thanks, all!
