Hey NWR Community,

We all lost a good one.  My very dear friend was the greatest Zelda fan I knew.  He passed away far too young recently, but he left us with this amazing video (see link above).  He made this years ago.  It means more to me now than ever before.

I thought many here would enjoy this creative and inspiring video of a game we all cherish.

Cheers,

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Galaxy Has Pokemon Ancestors?
« on: November 14, 2013, 09:11:04 AM »
Guys,

Perhaps I'm crazy.  I need help evaluating something...

Lately, I've been playing some Pokemon X.  I recently encountered Dedeene.  It's a very cool, Pokemon.  However, something about its call has been bugging me ever since I ran across it.  It's a sound that I know I've heard before.  In fact, it's one I've heard a lot of.  I tried Googling it, but I found nothing at all.

Well, last night, it finally hit me.  I had heard this sound many times before when hungry Lumas squeaked at me in this same(?) way begging me for star bits.  Do you agree?

Dedeene call: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jRXeA-R-pQ&feature=youtu.be&t=10s
Just watch that for a second.  On the 3DS on the right, a Dedeene appears with it's call at the 10s mark (linked).

Luma call: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1nqCssIxZk&feature=youtu.be&t=16s
Just watch that for a a bit too.  At the 16s mark (linked), you'll hear the Luma's call.

Hmmmm...

Agreement on this?  I'm just glad I finally know what the sound reminded me of.  At the very least, I hope this helps others...  :cool;

Nintendo Gaming / Dream Team or Bowser's Inside Story
« on: September 03, 2013, 12:53:09 PM »

EDIT: TLDR: If I can only play one Mario & Luigi RPG adventure game, which one should it be?  ...Dream Team or Bowser's Inside Story or something else?

Hey NWR Community,

First of all, I have a Nintendo Gaming Confession (forgive the overused meme nature of this phrase)...  Despite being passionate about Nintendo, having loved Super Mario RPG as a kid, and having thoroughly enjoyed some Paper Mario titles, I have never played a handheld 'Mario & Luigi' RPG adventure title.  :-[

This is not due to a lack of interest but is instead a product of the decreasingly available but increasingly precious time I have for gaming.

However, at some point soon, I intend to get into the series.  Dream Team seemed like a great time to jump in.  It looked great and I truly truly love 3DS.  However, I have a close friend who has continually raved about the quality of Bowser's Inside Story.  Recently, I also heard Neal Ronaghan's thoughts on this very subject on Connectivity.  After hearing his thoughts on this and considering my friends love of Bowser's Inside Story, I'm now I'm wondering if I should actually go back and play Bowser's Inside Story instead of jumping in at Dream Team.  :confused;

Any thoughts?  What's the right game for me to jump in with?  It's important to note that with the few hours I have, I will realistically only get to play one of them (at least for a while).

Thanks!  ;D

Cheers,

Nintendo Gaming / The 2DS Effect on Game Design (?)
« on: August 29, 2013, 08:50:21 AM »
Hey all,

I'm curious to hear the communities reaction to a thought I had...

We all know that the best way to get game developers to leverage creative hardware innovations in a fundamental and creative way is to make sure everyone who plays the game has the required hardware.

I loved the GBA-GCN connectivity (I am a massive Four Swords Adventures fan who was lucky enough to have 3 friends to play with at the time), but almost no one used it in game design (at least in a necessary, integral way).  :(  Why?  Because if you made it integral/fundamental/required, you limited your market right off the bat to those who had the setup.

This is why I understand the requirement to have Kinect with Xbox One.  They're taking one out of Nintendo's book (see the Wii, the Wii U, etc.).

So here's my question and concern...  Will no one ever use 3D effects as an integral part of game design now that the 2DS exists?  :confused;

I'm not sure many games have truly leveraged it in super fundamental ways yet (am I missing anything?).  Perhaps this problem already existed since little kids aren't supposed to use 3D.  But I still wonder...

I thought Super Mario 3D Land was cleverly designed with 3D.  It wasn't required, but it certainly helped and provided a test-bed from some very interesting platforming ideas.  I actually find myself missing the 3D effect when I play other 3D Mario games now...  I loved seeing where I'd land, I loved hidden nooks, I loved 'in-and-out-of-the-screen' platforming, etc.  While it wasn't integral to the point of being required, it did make me wonder whether there were some great ideas to come.  Are those dead?  Maybe they were never coming...

Just a thought...  Anyone else?

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid Prime Trilogy for $85 Question
« on: August 18, 2013, 01:48:26 PM »
Hello all,

I have a question about this Metroid Prime Trilogy Gamestop ‘deal’ that’s going on right now.

As many of you are probably aware, Gamestop is selling this most excellent trilogy for $85.  I’m one of the people who snoozed too long and missed out on this when it was new.  :-[

I am interested in this $85 copy, but I want to know if this comes with the steelbook case, art book, manual, etc.  They are pre-owned, but rumor has it that some of the ‘vintage’ games Gamestop is selling are ‘like new.’  This seemed to be the case with many of their Xenoblade copies.  :confused;

Does anyone have experience with this?  Does anyone know if these games are coming complete with all original contents/packaging minus shrink wrap?

Thanks!  :cool;

Nintendo Gaming / Worth Getting More Nunchucks (Gold even) & 'Motes?
« on: November 26, 2012, 11:24:45 AM »
Hey guys,

If Nintendo does in fact bring back the Gold Nunchuck reward on Club Nintendo today, I have a dilemma: is it worth it?  For that matter, is it worth getting more Wiimotes and nunchucks at all?  :Q

I have 2 'chucks and 4 'motes (only two with Motion Plus though).  It'd be great to have more for Nintendo Land (for Metroid Blast, of course); although, I do have a friend that can bring some over when we all play.  However, I'm not sure I'm going to always need an excess of Wii Remotes and nunchucks in the years ahead.

900 coins is a high price on Club Nintendo.  It's a very high price, and will eat up more than half of my stash.  :Q   I'm not sure how I feel about doing this if I'm never going to need 3+ nunchucks.

Anyone have any thoughts on this or gone through this dilemma themselves?

BTW and FYI, this offers a great way to get a new Wii Motion Plus Remote for less: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10870696 ... Same dilemma!  :cool;

Nintendo Gaming / Fantastic Zelda Tribute - Just Sharing
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:31:08 PM »
Hey NWR Community,

A while back a fantastic tribute to The Legend of Zelda hit YouTube.  I know, I know... add it to a saturated list, right?

Anyway, I was reminded of it recently and rewatched.  It's fantastic, and I wanted to share:

I can't believe it has under 1500 views.

Nintendo Gaming / Blast Corps 3DS - A Day Dreaming Post - Seconded?
« on: July 10, 2012, 11:25:01 AM »
While sitting at work, I had a day dream about Blast Corps for 3DS (remake or follow-up ... it doesn't really matter, does it?).  :cool;

This game is so well-suited for the 3D effect, and I would give so much (particularly $39.99) to play this game concept again.  Street Passing high scores, etc. would be another delight.   ;D

I know the rights probably belong to Rare ( :'( ), but I can't help but dream.

Does anyone second this wish of mine?

Your fellow day-dreamer,

Nintendo Gaming / 3DS XL Mobility Question
« on: June 22, 2012, 03:43:05 PM »
Hey everyone,

From the FAQ that NWR posted, the 3DS XL will be around 1.5X the volume of the 3DS.  That's a decent increase, but the L x W x D dimensions don't actually seem awful.  However, these dimensions might be just at the point of making a portable system not so portable.  3DS portability is critical for me ... partly because I'm addicted to Street Passing, and partly because I do like to game on the go (lots of work travel, etc.).

Are there any DSi XL owners out there that can comment on this?

Also, can any DSi XL owners comment on the resolution situation (is it noticeable to have a larger screen with the same resolution ... in a bad way)?

Thanks, all!

Hey gang,

I have a concern that I'm wondering if any fellow Nintendo fans and NWR readers can speak to.

The top screen of my 3DS is scratched by the bottom screen (I know from the good 'ol Internet that I am not alone in this). I just talked to Nintendo and they said they'll repair it under warranty. Great news.  However, I have a concern...

I know they will transfer data if they need to, but I'm concerned about my Street Pass data. I am not just concerned about my Find Mii progress and my puzzle pieces (although these are important to me since I have completed just about everything), but I am concerned about my plaza population

I have Street Passed with A LOT of people from a lot of locations. I got a ton at PAX East, and many more elsewhere. My question is: will I still have all these people in my plaza after repair even if they have to transfer my data to a new 3DS?  Has anyone had experience with this?

Thanks!
