Making an M-rated Fire Emblem game is like trying to make a PG-13 Deadpool.

1277
Digital Foundry deeper dive. More tech analysis.

- Overall theme is that this game is really pushing the Wii U's tech.
- Maybe there's Anti-Aliasing? E3 televisions may have been poorly calibrated.
- Monolith Soft helping with the tech, but pushing farther than what they did on XCX.
- Feeling is it might be pushing as much as it can on Wii U, more tailored with NX.

In the original 2015 E3 trailer the game was expected to get a M rating, FWIW.

Nintendo is actually letting us vote for stages as well.

Totally worth it getting on Club Nintendo a few years back.

General Gaming / Re: Battleborn or Overwatch?

I approve of the mod who made that poll. Or wait, did I do it? Uhhhh

I've had a blast with Overwatch so far. I am terrible at shooters so the fact that I can play support and still feel like an active contributor and someone who can swing the battle one way or another is great. I love defending with Torbjorn's turrets and handing out armor to everyone. I love Lucio because I can heal people while I do my usual spray and pray technique. Or I can just play as Mercy and just be a pure healer. And even if I do go with an offensive character I can pick one with a low difficulty curve and still feel like I'm doing well.

The content amiibo unlock is way less important than the actual figures themselves.

More or less. Most of the space it occupies was previously empty space on the previous Dual Shocks. I only notice it because of the terrible placement of the "options" button. Never really used the track pad thing.

Wait, so the whole thread got nuked form existence?

1286
C'mon, people actually thought there wasn't going to be a gimmick controller...

Podcast Discussion / Re: Special: NWR Book Interview with Max Lake

This was a tough interview to listen to on my part, because I can empathize with a lot of what you feel even if the experiences aren't the same. I'm glad I listened and I'm glad you shared with us Max. Keep fighting the good fight man, we're all trying one day at a time.

Adventures of Pip [Wii U] - Middle-of-the-road platform game has an interesting concept but it's not enough to hold it together. Changing between sprites is fun, but gets tedious fast. The game is relatively short which is a plus. Very few times do levels wear out their welcome and there's enough of a challenge to keep platformer veterans engaged. A few challenges are pretty entertaining. Boss battles are mostly messy slogs where you try and figure out the full pattern before you die and then execute it to perfection on your second/third try. Presentation is very weak, slightly amateurish (seriously, no credits at the end) and lacks polish. If you've played every other platformer on Wii U and this game is on sale, give it a shot. Otherwise, plays the nearly dozen better indie platformers on Wii U first.

Star Fox Guard [Wii U] - This game is better than Star Fox Zero. There, I said it. Yeah it's an eShop game and yes it's very low budget and it shows in the presentation but I felt engaged during the main story missions. The bosses offered a nice twist on the gameplay and even as I was playing solo I felt enough of a challenge going from the GamePad to the TV screen. Finished all the main story missions in under 4 hours so it's perfect for short bursts. Highly recommended.

I bought WWE 2k16 digital from the 2k sale on PS4. Weird because I don't really watch wrestling but still keep up with it via podcasts.

Will Mario Maker reach 1 million before the end of the year? Hmm....

TalkBack / Re: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (ESRB) Review
« on: June 23, 2016, 06:36:13 PM »
I feel like this 8.5 was a vastly inflated(zing!) score due to the total lack of quality ESRB content for Nintendo Wii U. We're being prisoners of the moment and not properly analyzing how this review truly stacks up against the truly great ESRB reviews of years past.

What I'm trying to say is that I think Neal missed a great chance to drop another 7.5 masterpiece on us. Love ya, Neal.

Has anyone tried the DLC maps? I know I want to recruit Anna and I want to try the Radiant Dawn map but is there anything else worth playing?

1293
Yeah, no online for this series is still criminal.

I love Klinsmann but he deserves that drubbing and anything future drubbings if he continues to drag the likes of Beckerman and Wondolowski out for a do-or-die match. It's been 2 years since the World Cup. These guys do not work on the big stage. They don't work on the small stage either. The US has nothing to lose and they decide to come out with the weakest, safest lineup they have.

Digital Foundry analysed the Zelda footage.

- 720p/30fps.
- The game experiences drops, most notably during combat and when spreading fire, but it picks up quickly.
- Impressive visuals for the tech its using. Not really comparable to PS4/XB1 but still performs better than PS360 open-world games.
- Nintendo is known for locking its tech early in development, so who know how much performance will improve.
- Also things could be better for the NX version. -insert RFN NX alarm here-

Mexico still hasn't **** the bed which means they still have a great chance to do so.

This game looks to have a heavy dose of "quirky". Could be fun, but I'll wait until it is at the Nintendo Selects $20 price.

So, you're never going to play it then.

Nindies lineup for the rest of 2016.

Zelda - I think the Sheikah Slate clearly was supposed to represent the GamePad. I don't think it really tells us anything about the NX. But it will be reminder that this was supposed to be a full Wii U 2 screen experience that was unfortunately gimped because to the consoles' failure.

Regarding inventory I think that the days of using the Start button to manage inventory are over. They have to be. We can't go back to that.

Just Dance - I doubt the NX version of Just Dance will use Wiimotes. They'll probably continue to use mobile phone integration.

Also, James Jones is my daddy.
