I was going to have to think about this until seeing that Harvest Moon 64 did indeed come out in 1999.  Best game in the series, was such a blast to play, best characters in any Harvest Moon game I've played, it expanded on what made the original great and added so much more, it's a shame that was left off the main tournament, though it probably wouldn't have made it far against more popular games.

On a side note, Natsume needs to announce a Harvest Moon game for Wii U...

Agree on Fifa, it uses the GamePad well.  And it's dirt cheap on Amazon and there's the demo to test out the game.  I'm not a soccer fan but it is fun.

It doesn't do anything revolutionary or anything but Wii Fit U does use the GamePad well for the handful of activities that use it.

Nintendo eShop cards are 20% through the end of the day tomorrow at Best Buy (and bestbuy.com).  I picked up a $50 card for $30 after using a $10 reward certificate that I needed to use anyway.

Can you find anyone that played Xenoblade (at least 15 hours worth not someone that didn’t give it a real shot) that isn’t really looking forward to X?
To be fair, I think that could be said about the sequel of virtually every game I've put more than 15 hours into.  If I put that many hours into a game, there's a really good chance I liked it enough that I'd want to play a sequel or I would have stopped playing well before sinking that much time into it.

I don't have a 3DS so I guess the Nintendo Video Service didn't apply to me, but my first thought when I saw the title of this article was: "that still exists?  I had no idea..."

Nintendo Gaming / Re: What will this year be the year of for Nintendo?

It's a little strange that the year of Luigi is ending, then a month later they're release NES Remix 2, which features the backwards version of SMB with Luigi as the main character...maybe they really do want a second year of Luigi.

I agree with it being Yoshi, everyone loves Yoshi and there's already a couple games being worked on with Yoshi as the star.  And I'd be all for a New Yoshi Bros Wii U DLC, even though I haven't gotten to play the Luigi one yet.

And everything else Origins came out on of course.

I think I will buy it used, because WB screwed us on the AO DLC. Also, I never had a real bug issues with Arkham Origins but a lot of people did and they stopped patching the game.
I think it's funny how people taking it so personally that they made a business decision and didn't release something that wasn't going to make them any money.  Let's be honest here, Wii U owners should be happy with any major 3rd party publisher still making games for the system.  Because most have moved on and are probably never coming back, so I don't see how "screwing" the few publishers who release anything on the system is a good thing.  That's just helping achieve the possibility of zero games from third party publishers in 2015...

I have no interest in Batman but it's great for people who do.

It amazes me how well the Assassin's Creed titles sell when the prices drop so quickly...AC4 has only been out for 3 months and within the last week or so it was on sale for $30 on all of the consoles and appears to be destined to hit $20 before the snow melts here (which, to be fair, may be June at this pace).  Just seems to me to be like flushing money down the toilet to buy a game like that at full price near launch...

I just don't get this.  They would sell a ton more GBA games if they were putting them on the 3DS, I just don't see this as a big selling point for Wii U, and they've done so little with the Wii U VC as it is to this point, how about they just get all of the NES, SNES, and N64 games out?  Then from there, how about the Gamecube?  Or since they seem to have such a strong partnership with Sega, the Dreamcast?  I don't have a 3DS so it being on Wii U instead of 3DS does no harm to me, but I'm not excited by it either, maybe I'll get a game or two at some point but it seems like there's more interesting things they could do with the Wii U VC if that's what they want to focus on.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Are indie games the "New" 3rd party?
« on: February 11, 2014, 11:20:53 PM »
There are several interesting looking games on that list.  It seems like almost none of them have release dates, though.  Is that just that indie games are usually that way since they're digital releases, or a sign that a fair amount may never see the light of day?

This isn't really a deal since it's been around this price for a while but Fifa 13 for Wii U is only $11.99 on Amazon.  I tried out the demo and it seems like one of the few games to actually use the Gamepad well so far so I decided to pick it up.

Natsume needs to release a new Harvest Moon game for Wii U.  I still need to play more of Animal Parade for Wii but it'd be nice to get a  new one, and I think it's a game that could use the Gamepad fairly well.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

Kinda surprised Sega hasn't tried this already.  Their racing games have been generally well received and must be selling fairly well, I'd imagine that a Sega made Smash Bros type game would have sold well, especially if it had been released before the next Smash Bros is released.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Do you regret buying a Wii U?
« on: January 30, 2014, 11:46:12 PM »
Definitely not.  I got mine at Target when they had the 20% off coupon right after Black Friday which made it enough of a deal for me.  I've only really played New Super Mario Wii U and Ducktales Remastered so far but I've had a blast with both.  Mario started out a little slow but after the first few levels the game really picked up and the challenges and boost mode add a lot to the game.  I was disappointed by the first New Super Mario Bros game, the Wii version was better but still not great, but this feels like a Mario game should in my opinion.  Ducktales is a blast even though I'm not very good at it, I've had to replay the levels an insane amount of times but it's fun to play, the cutscenes are funny (at least the first couple times), and the random sayings every time Scrooge finds a jewel are entertaining.  Beyond that, my wife is really liking Wii Fit U, I've got Mass Effect 3 and Scribblenauts waiting to be opened, tried the demo of Trine 2 and liked it enough to download, and there's a good list of games out now that I want to buy (Mario 3D World, Pikmin, AC4, Nintendoland, NES Remix, Castlestorm) plus what's coming out from Nintendo this year.  I don't have as much time for gaming as I used to so I don't need a ton of games, I hope the system gets support for several years to come but honestly by the end of 2014 there will be enough out to last me a long time.

Monster Hunter for the Wii U (and I believe the 3DS?) is on sale for $19.99 until 2/3.  If you bought eShop cards from Best Buy when they were 20% off and figure in the digital deluxe promotion, it works out to being around $14, not bad...

I thought the cutscenes in Subspace Emmisary were pretty entertaining.  I never finished the entire thing but I got most of the way through and found it very enjoyable.

It's just that someone has to pay for it and no one really wants to.
I think that consumers have shown that they're willing to pay for a more powerful product.  Look at how many PS4s have sold already, and to a slightly lesser extent the X-Box One.  Outside of games, look at how insanely successful the iPad, iPhone, Galaxy phones, etc. all are.  The problem with the Wii U wasn't that the price was so expensive, it was that it was so expensive for what it was.

I like the Gamepad and think it's a great idea but the quality is just not that good in my opinion.  For navigating menus and the eShop and all of that, it works wonderful but it's hard to look at the screen and want to play a game on it when it looks so blurry in comparison to what the game looks like on my 1080p TV.

I wonder how many Wii Us would need to sell to bring back EA.  It's a shame they didn't release a Tiger Woods game for the Wii U, the Tiger Woods series was possibly the best use if the Wiimote on the Wii.

Speaking of Nintendo... I'm finally going to get a Wii U! I'll trade in my PS3 + games + controllers and use my Best Buy gift card to buy the Mario bundle. What other games would you guys recommend?
I've only had mine since Christmas and have only played a few games so far, but Duck Tales Remastered is as much fun as I've had with a video game in at least a couple years.

I've never really had a problem with staff.  I've heard them saying some strange things to other customers who didn't know much about video games but never had any issues myself.  But I don't even know the last time I bought anything at Gamestop, the only time I've walked in there in the past couple years is while walking around the mall to browse for 5 minutes and realize that most of their games are overpriced.  Almost every game I've bought over the past 5 or so years has been online, so I just haven't dealt with employees in the electronics/gaming department of any store really.

Why has Nintendo not made a regular Pokemon game for any of their home consoles?  It seems like it'd be insanely popular and sell tons of copies and help sell consoles.  I'm not a fan of the series but it just seems like it would make so much sense.

Newegg has Wind Waker HD on sale for $45.99 and Best Buy has Assassin's Creed 4 as their deal of the day today for $29.99.

I know it wouldn't magically save the Wii U or anything, but an Eternal Darkness sequel would certainly seem like a great fit for the system since 3rd party games seem to be drying up very quickly and Eternal Darkness would help fill that void well.

I don't understand their pricing structure for this game.  Are they just trying to price gouge people who don't know better?  There isn't anything in the physical game that's different from the demo that you can keep forever by registering the Fit Meter, right?  Seems like a steep price to pay $30 more just to have a disc, especially when this is the type of game that is perfect for downloading since it's something you (at least in theory) should play most days.

Some of the price cuts are through next week, some of them ended on Thursday, including Duck Tales.  I bought the game a couple weeks ago right after it went on sale.  Even at full price I think it's well worth it, the game is a blast (don't think I ever played the original back in the day), the graphics look nice, and they really did a nice job of making it feel like you're in an episode of the show.
